amanda krenz is live with the latest.. as we continue our countdown to coverage. amanda: march first is deadline for iowa's medicaid program to change over to private managed care companies. that's eight days from now. the centers for medicare and medicaid services has to approve of this big change before the state can move forward on march one. i reached out to cms today to see if they were about to give their approval, here's the response i got. plain and simple: "nothing to report right now." one of cms's main concerns with the change and why they didn't approve the move on january first was because not enough health care providers in the state had signed a contract with the managed care companies, they said the provider network was too thin. here's a look at those numbers that i got today from d-h-s. more than 90 percent have signed with at least one mco. more than 70 percent with two mcos. more than 60 percent with all three mcos.
6:01 pm
same numbers they've been reporting since february 10th - saying many providers are waiting for federal approval before they'll sign a contract with the mco's. live in the studio - amanda krenz, local five news, we are iowa. jack: she was killed in the bathtub, and four years later we're just getting to jury selection. jack: . attorneys say nearly 100 potential jurors have been called in winneshiek county. alexander fazzino is charged with his wife's 2012 death in boone. prosecutors say he hit and killed emily fazzino in the family's bath tub. the trial was delayed five times since then. local 5 will bethere later this week to cover the trial. we'll bring you updates as the trial moves forward. jack: a newton man will be going to prison before he even faces attempted murder chages. john britton took a plea deal for two of the he faced county. he'll go to trial

police say intentionally hit a man with his car, then repeatedly hit a car carrying a 5- month old child and a 50- year old woman. britton told officers that his intention was to kill all three victims. britton made the some lesser his remaining attempted murder charges, will go to pre trial next month. stephanie: police inching body cameras. the des moines been talking about purchasing body cameras for more than a year. now the chief says they're taking an aggressive approach to have them as soon as this summer. local 5's claire powell has more. claire: body cameras are a hot topic that police know will soon become a necessity. des moines police have been working on purchasing body cameras and developing a policy since mid- last year. they're currently accepting bids from multiple camera companies- trying to choose which to buy. they've already purchased a server to hold the footage and have also developed a lengthy policy with rules and
6:03 pm
that policy has gone through multiple revisions and committees. and now the department has set a goal date of this june to have the cameras in place. "right now evaluating the cameras how they work with our exsisting camera system, durability and history on how they perform and what the actual video looks like coming out of those " sgt. paul parizek- dmpd claire: they're calling that date "aggressive" because it's only a few months away and the equipment will cost more than 1 million dollars. some of that will come from public and private donations- like the 125 thousand dollar donation from rod french last summer. the legislative body camera bill requiring officers to wear them did not make it through legislation this year- but chief wingert says its only a matter of time. reporting live calire powell local 5 news we are iowa jack: a strange twist in events surrounding the city's first homicide of the year. des moines police say d-n-a

old norma jean mcneeley points to this man -- ali yahia. but yahia is already dead. he was shot and killed by urbandale police just last weekend during a confrontation at a holiday inn hotel. police say it took a couple of weeks to match yahia's blood at the scene of the crime. they say he stabbed norma jean mcneeley several times before he was caught leaving on security video. " "think about the reason we get into the business, this is what we're atlking about. no empathy for anyone else, no concious, his actions clearly demonstrate he was very violent " " jack: police say they strongly believe yahia is the only possible suspect. their not sure why he killed mc-neely, but say it may have been a robbery. stephanie: but, one of the main components that helped d-c-i and des monies police identify yahia as the suspect in this case was bloodwork and

jack: we're not out of south carolina and nevada yet in the race to the white house. jack: : both states remain the focus of presidential candidates as nevada republicans caucus tomorrow and south carolina democrats vote saturday in their state's primary. down south, the contest between bernie sanders and hillary clinton continues to heat up, though sanders predicts he'll pull out a win this weekend. " south carolina has the opportunity to make american history and i hope you will! (white flash) this campaign has taken on the economic establishment, all the big money interests. and let me tell you, wall st is getting nervous. let me also tell you that they should be getting nervous. we have taken on the political establishment. we are

establishment and we are gaining momentum everyday" stephanie: over in nevada, republican contenders are hitting back at each other on the campaign trail today. senator ted cruz, who remains behind donald trump in the latest state polls, is now going after his fellow senate colleague marco rubio. cruz and rubio have been vying for second place in several states, including nevada. " and he was asked, what state did you win? you weren't able to win in iowa, you weren't able to win in new hampshire or south carolina. when can you win a state? and the answer he gave is he said well i think we could win florida on march 15th. that's a fairly amazing admission that they don't believe they're going to win in nevada. apparently they don't believe they are gonna win any states on
6:13 pm
cruz lost to rubio in south carolina over the weekend. rubio was endorsed just days before the contest by the state's governor nikki healy, in what some are saying was a key pick-up to his campaign. and another new development on cruz's campaign - he fired his national spokesperson, rick tyler, after tyler circulated a video that falsley depicts rubio dismissing the bible. jack: okay, how about a caucus in a casino? that's just one of the differences between iowa and how they do it in nevada. just like iowa, nevadans will meet at designated precincts across the state tomorrow. but unlike the iowa caucuses, republicans can start their voting anytime between 5 and 7 pm. six of those precincts are even held in casinos! that's so housekeepers, black jack dealers, and others can be a part of it. also, nevada caucuses must be finished by 9 pm, while here in iowa, there's no time limit to vote.

"they're gonna be ready to go, obviously they had a tough loss with oklahoma. it's a big road game for us and the biggest thing i wanna see what we take into that game is, we've had 4 really tough road losses in conference play. 3 overtimes, one where we had a shot to beat oklahoma in regulation and we didn't finish. and we just want to put ourselves into position to finish. and i'm looking

sellout, great atmosphere for our guys. and we played well against them here, we got off to a great start. the thing we didn't do, is we didn't finish. we went down the stretch, i thought shot selection, transition d and obviously the glass hurt us and that's what we've gotta be locked in on." cyclones in morgantown tonight for big monday as they face the 14th ranked mountaineers. game is set for 8 pm on espn. jordan meanwhile the iowa hawkeyes are also looking to finish strong. after their loss to penn state, which may have taken the hawks out of the running for a #1 seed. the team held a players-only meeting on saturday led by its seniors. no specifics were given, but the hawkeyes say the meeting, coupled with the time off has them ready for the final four games of the season... "ya i think these last couple of practices have been doing a really nice job for us and just getting back to the basics of what was successful for us earlier in the season and earlier in the big ten season and just kind of getting back to what was successful
