(toss t0 jack) jack/2bam: i'm here with sports director jon schaeffer, and jon iowa state has had no problem scoring this season-- but are still struggling to this season-- but are still struggling to get the wins. jon/2bam: yeah jack-- and in large part because they're giving up too many points. coming up on local 5 sports we'll hear from

are iowa sports" jon: welcome back-- the iowa state cyclones-- gave up 80 plus points for the fourth time in their last five games last night against west virginia.. i-s-u has no problem scoring--they're 13th in the country in points per game-- but they're 276th in the country in points allowed-- giving up nearly 76 points per game. that's where the problem lies-- and it's pretty apparent-- the question is can it be fixed? "we just gotta stay with it because, if you've seen our team at its best defensively, we can fly around and guard. but we gotta rebound, you gotta finish plays and that's the biggest thing." "i think we are a good defensive team. at times we have a few lapses out there, but i mean we've been working all year on that end of the floor and we just gotta enjoy the process. i
6:22 pm
always tough, like i said, this team we've been through so much this year and like coach said, nobody's going to really remember the regular season, you're just going to remember your last game in the tournament. so right now we're just playing for seeding and just trying to stay positive." "we do a lot of good things for a lot of minutes, we just haven't done it for long enough stretches. and the guys have handled everything this year, especially in that locker room right there, they've handled everything the right way. and so that's why we've just got to stay positive, go home and take care of buisness and get ready for the postseason as we near these last two weeks." the cyclones are back home saturday against kansas state at 5pm from hilton. if you can't get up to ames, you can catch the action on espn 2 jon: as for the iowa hawkeyes--

to make some corrections of their own after a rough week last week. alex giaimo has more from iowa city. "(alex giaimo) the hawkeyes will take the court tomorrow night for the first time since their upset loss to penn state. it will be a full week in between games for iowa. they'll take on a red hot wisconsin team that has revived itself and is playing for their ncaa tournament lives. (giaimo) wisconsin has had iowa's number recently winning 5 consecutive games over them including a series sweep last season. (fran mccaffery) they are still doing kind of what they've always done and it's a winning formula. (nicholas baer) you know they are going to play hard, they are going to play physical, and they've got some great bigs that can stretch you. (jarrod uthoff) i think it's a different team without frank, treyvon, those guys i think it's a different team but we'll look at them today and try to get a better feeling for them. (giaimo) that team started off big ten play one and four but now the surging badgers have won 8 of their last 9 games. (fran maccaffery) you know they got some young guys yea. i think it's to be expected you know guys who haven't played as much you know what you're going to get out of koening and hayes
6:24 pm
and the more they've been in situations where they've had to take big shots they've done that. (giaimo) as far as the hawks go they're regrouping and trying to get back to the championship level they played at earlier this season (nicholas baer) these last couple of practices have been doing a really nice job for us just getting back to the basics of what we were doing earlier in the season and big ten season. (alex giaimo) the hawkeye seniors led a player's only team meeting on saturday, another attempt to right the ship. they'll get their chance to rebound tomorrow night right here at carver hawkeye arena. tipoff will be at 8:06pm. in iowa city, with your hawkeye headquarters report, alex giaimo, local 5 sports, we are iowa.
