our best looking day will be saturday with sunshine and milder sw winds helping to push us up into the 50s in central iowa with some areas reaching 60! our relatively warm weather will hold into early sunday, but then a cold front will bring colder air in sunday afternoon and evening with a chance for some light rain changing to a light wintry mix by monday morning. next week could be more active too with larger storm system possibly taking shape for us by tuesday or wednesday that could bring us more rain/snow. " local 5 news at 10 in hd starts now. we are iowa" stephanie/2bam good evening. i'm stephanie angleson. jack/2bam and i'm jack miller. tonight, iowa finally has federal approval to go forward with the governor's plan to privatize medicaid. but the switch over date is being delayed. jack: it's the update everyone was waiting for, as we continue local 5's countdown to coverage. jack: this afternoon, the federal centers for medicare and medicaid gave its approval for the change. medicaid coverage in iowa will now switch hands from a state-run program to three private managed care companies. but the federal agency bumped back the start date from march 1st to april 1st. stephanie:
10:03 pm
the plan moves forward and those who use medicaid need to choose a provider. stephanie/bam: this change affects every one and five iowans--that's more than half a million people who rely on medicaid care, right now. the deadline for them to sign up for a plan was last wednesday, but it's not just iowans who have to sign up with the managed care companies. jack: the hospitals and doctors who provide the care have to sign contracts with these managed care companies, or mco's. the latest numbers show only 60 percent of providers have signed up with all three mco's. 70 percent have signed with two mco's. 90 percent have signed with just one of the mco's. unless those numbers improve, many iowans could find their medical choices more limited than now. stephanie: meanwhile, medicaid is still a statehouse matter for senate democrats. stephanie: while the bill that would have repealed the governor's plan has lost traction in the republican controlled house...there is a bill in the senate the calls for more oversight for the new medicaid system.
10:04 pm
bill calls for oversight and accountability of the new system. it may never make it to the floor for debate because of power struggle. jack: a statement from governor branstad shows he still stands by his plan. it says "iowa is ready for a new system that provides access through more doctors and will create a more sustainable medicaid program for taxpayers." jack: stay with local 5 for the latest on this hot topic. stephanie: you can find all of our medicaid coverage on our website that's we are iowa dot com. jack: it's day one of the long awaited fazzino trail. jack: alexander fazzino is charged with his wife's death in boone back in 2012. he's accused of drowning emily fazzino in the family's bath tub while their children were home. the trial has been delayed five times since then. local 5's claire powell is in decorah with a wrap-up of today's events. " the first day of the alexander fazzino trial here in winneshiek county was an emotional one. with jury selection

witnesses to take the stand and started off the day with a chilling 911 call" "please help oh god, shes dead. shes dead. shes purple? ok" after brief opening statements by prosecution and defense, the first witness was called - the 911 dispatcher. "oh god shes dead, do you want to try cpr yes!" bringing emily fazzino's family, alexander fazzinos family... and even alex fazzino himself to tears. evidence continued- showing paramedics arriving- body cameras rolling on a frantic fazzino. fazzino suggests she was trying to get clean from addiction " how long shes been in here? i dont know she was taking a bath" "made some comment, emily has potentially abused prescription drugs why i went into the bathroom to look for pills" the next two witnesses, boone polic officers-- who noted to prosecutors the dead end search for more of emilys pills and fazzino's calm then frantic changing behavior "she couldve taken anythign in here!" they told attorneys when they asked about the bruising on emilys body...fazzino said he wasnt sure.

"students rights to free speech are protected by the first ammendment and the first ammendment protects students rights to say and do certain things. it also protects their right to not be forced to say and do certain things. " stephanie: we want to know your thoughts -- should saying the pledge of allegiance be part of every student's day in waukee? how
