gloves at last night's debate taking jabs at the republican ont-runner but trump seemingly fazed. >> you're a lot of fun up here tonight, i have to tell you. in the meantime, hillary clinton hoping to pull in some votes by getting her groove on. we're live in washington. and how about getting our surf on. fearless wave riders hanging ten on some massive waves. the rare competition that so many have been waiting for. and we say good morning on this friday morning. we're going to start with the breaking details about the rampage in kansas. by one count, e nation's 33rd mass shooting so far this year. >> heavily armed officers with guns drawn flooded the area around a lawn mower plant. one of the workers had already killed killed three and wounded

>> the frightening incident playing out in the small town, hesston, kansas. abc's clayton sandell is there. >> reporter: police say 38-year-old cedric ford started his rampagehooting at random drivers wounding two before heading to excel industries in hesston, kansas, where he worked. >> to have something like this is tragic. >> reporter: fords heads inside armed with a rifle and handgun and opens fire on his co-workers. >> and then i seen a mob of people just start running out saying, run, run, and pop, pop, pop, pop, pop is all i heard and then everybody started scattering out of the building, and i didn't realize what had happened until we got outside and i started seeing wounded people coming out. >> reporter: police and witnesses say he kept shooting until a single officer, the first to arrive, fires back. >> there was a particular law enforcement here in hesston that responded right away, and even though he took fire, he went inside of that place and saved multiple, multiple lives. a hero as far as i'm concerned. >> reporter: in the end four employees including the shooter would not survive.

>> inside the building he shot a total of 15 people. >> reporter: around 150 employees were inside at the time. worried friends and family waited outside for news. >> i just can't believe that the guy that shot people up lived right across the street fr us. >> reporter: not much is known yet ababout the ctims who have not been identified. ford has an extensive criminal record in florida. police aren't saying why they believe he opened fire, but they've ruled out terrorism. excel is a family owned company that makes lawn mowing equipment since 1960. clayton sandell, abcews, wichita, kansas. >> and this morning police are saying something triggered ford's rampage, but they haven't revealed a specific motive yet. >> and you saw a woman in clayton's story talking to a reporter after the rampage. her husband had been right next to a co-worker who was shot then the reporter pointed out her husband, an emotional but, unfortunately, all too familiar scene playing out live on tv.

debate ahead. houston fire crews have capped aeaking gas line that sparked a damaging two-alarm fire in an upscale neighborhood. city workers were repairing a broken water main when their backhoe hit the gas line and they ignited it. flames engulfed the roof of a nearby home but they were put out quickly. this note from overseas where today will be a crucial day ahead in syria. cease-fire in the long civil war is set to begin within hours. it'll be a chance for much needed humanitarian aid to reach remote areas. fighting is likely to continue, however, as isis and other terror g groups opate in that country. president obama says the coming weeks are critical to syria's future, but he's adamant that the cease-fire not impact the u.s. efforts to destroy isis there. and breaking overnight, a powerful message to north korea.
