emotional as emily fazzinos sister, cousin and brother in law detailed the night of emilys death. today emilys father submitted his written testimony to prosecution. hes not able to be on stand or inside the courtroom because of recent health issues. but that didnt stop him from giving the courtroom an inside look at a side of emily- only he and his wife ever knew. " " this mornings testimony began with richard beckwith- emilys father. his statement with prosecution read by a county official due to beckwiths doctors advising against giving his testimony in person. beckwith told attorneys they loved alex like a son and knew alex had concerns with emilys use of prescription medications. "i think alex cared about her and that she was taking too much. i think he genuienly cared" beckwith stated he became aware of emily's abuse of prescription anxiety drugs in 2011 after seeing her under the influence with slurred speech. "emily was noticiably effected. i dotn know if i knew what she was affected by, trouble with speaking.

autopsy on emilys body. we'll have more details from that coming up at 6. reporting live claire powell local 5 news we are iowa jack: new tonight at five. jack/1shot: layoffs of about 100 employees announced at john deere in eastern iowa. the layoffs will affect about 80 employees from the davenport john deere while the other 20 are at the dubuque facility. the layoffs start april first. deere says this reflects the company's ongoing efforts to balance its workforce. this past september the plants in davenport in east moline laid due demand. there are now cases of the zika virus in iowa. all three are women who are not pregnant. they all traveled to zika-affected countries. recommended that women who are pregnant consider postponing travel to places where zika virus transmission is active. stephanie/wxhang: and brad. some nice, spring weather today,

" investigators are getting closer today to understanding what led to the terrifying shooting rampage in a small kansas community. (sot) "the gun was strapped on and he was ready to go." the gunman... now identified as 38-year- old cedric larry ford. just before 5 p.m. thursday, officials say he first opened fire from his car on other

two in separate locations. then, he drove to his workplace. (sot sheriff today) pointing at the map toward number three. saying something short like "it was a six mile drive." ford arrives at excel industries in hesston-- armed with an assault rifle and handgun. investigators say he shot one person in the parking lot of the industrial plant... before going inside. (sot jared trujilo) he was just unloading on everybody. and i told the girls that were working on my line, let's go. let's run. everybody started fleeing. three people killed-- and 14 others injured... before a deputy took ford down. (sot sheriff) "the only reason he stopped shooting is because that officer stopped the shooting." nearly 150 employees escaped the building... surrounded by ambulances and swat teams. their family and friends anxiously waiting outside. (sot reunion) oh my god. oh my god. hug. (sot wife) when i finally got to see him.. i didn't want to let him go. now safely reunited with his wife, jared trujillo says ford was a hard guy to get to know.
