emily fazzino's father. explaining his knowledge of emilys pain medication addiction. up next for the state, the medical examiner who performed the initial autopsy on emily in 2012. she described emily's multiple injuries and how she doesn't believe one fall into a bathtub is the only thing that happened that night. following the last beckwith family member to take the stand- prosecution called on dr. michelle catellier- iowa's associate medical examiner. dr. catellier - who performed the initial autopsy on emily in 2012- originally identified emily's death as "undetermined." but prosecution pressed her about emilys extensive injuries- from four different places... and cause all of those "its hard for me to can fall and have injury on both sides of the head, back and top with that description" hours, prosecution questioned emily's injuries. "i considered it couldve happened during cpr from a mask, but i dont usually see that. i worry that more likely her nostrils were

and finally, the hemorraging and bruised lines on emilys neck. dr cavalier told the jury, its not consistent with a fall, but usually something more severe.. "on the right theres hemmorage in that area vocal we dont see that hemorrage very often, most worrysomely associated with strangulation type injury" dr. catellier and another forensic pathologists said initial autopsy showed no overdosed drugs in emilys system at the time "every indication she was eared of opiate withdrawls before she died" and when prosecution asked dr. catellier to define "undetermined cause of death" she ruled out natural causes... and then made her opinion clear to the jury. "dont see any reason she would die from accidental toxic or injuries that would explain accidental death- would that favor homicide- i think that..i would lean towards that yes" the trial will continue on monday at 9:30 in winneshiek county. prosecution will bring two more

stand before handing it over to the defense. we'll continue our coverage of the fazzino trial as it gets underway next week. reporting live claire powell are iowa details tonight in the double homicide case mother and daughter dead. barney fraaken is charged with killing his wife, amy, and daughter, amber, last november in des moines. today, new court documents show fraaken admitting to shooting amy, amber, and then himself. fraaken had been in the hospital since the shooting last november, for self- inflicted injuries, but was released and arrested wednesday night. he faces two counts of murder and is being held in the polk county jail on a two million dollar bond. stephanie/1shot: a frustrating result for a former d-c-i agent today... the iowa supreme court dismissed part of his wrongful termination lawsuit against the state. on july 16, 2015 larry hedlund was fired, just days after making some complaints to his

had to do with a state trooper who was caught speeding while driving governor branstad, but not ticketed. the incident was caught on dash camera. hedlund emailed his bosses saying he didn't think anybody should be above the law, he was later put on leave and then let go. the issue before the supreme court was whether hedlund can sue for wrongful discharge in violation of public policy. jack: we have an update on the i- 235 speed enforcement watches done this week. jack/fullscreen: you might have seen on wednesday there were 10 officers stationed along i-235 from 10 - 2, watching for speeders. 92 vehicles were stopped during that four hour period, with 76 citations and 39 warnings issued. the highest speed was 91 miles per hour in a 60 zone. no arrests were made. stephanie/2shot: a lot of people are going to be out and about this weekend with such nice weather. jack/2shot: let's check in now with chief

jon: welcome back-- the iowa state mens basketball team is hitting the final stretch before tournament season gets underway. ask them and they'll say they're focused on the next game-- but they are also ready to get into tournament mode for march-- and these last three games can help set the tempo for what's to come in just a couple of weeks.
