you are backstage now inside the dolby theater and that's where abc's jason nathanson has been hanging out and jason, what's your big take away from this year? >> reporter: the one thing that i thinkverybody focused on here backstage and during the show and i think a lot of people in the audience, as well are talking about chris rock and they'r'realking about diversity and talking about how well he did. he threaded that needle to talk about these really kind of intense subjects. one of his first jok abo how people didn't protest the lack of oscar diversity in the '60s because they were busy dealing with real things like lynchings. that was a hard hard-core joke. got a lot of jokes but also very serious. he set the tone from the begin. that's what everybody is going to be talking about tomorrow. >> you cover the indust. do you think that the academy will eventually become more diverse in the near future? >> that's a great question because it's so hard. there's so much work to do in changing, moving this big ship
