and a rally at the state house. that rally is set to start at 10:15. if you're looking to attend today's event... honoring martin luther king... the city's parking garages will be open to the public for free. those garages are the lady street, washington street, sumter street, taylor street, and cannon street garages. lincoln garage, park street garage and arsenal hill garage... will also be open for no charge for the event. in addition, street meters will not be enforced today.33 new this morning... the richland county sheriff's department is investigating an armed robbery. it happened at the video express... located at the 27-hundred block of two notch road. investigators say the suspect entered the store and presented a handgun and demanded money. the suspect shot the victim in the lower body. he suffered non-life threatening injuries. officials say the victim was

fire at the suspect... possibly striking him... before fleeing the scene. the sheriff department says a man did show up at the hospital with a gunshot wound... but no other details are available at this time. the south carolina law enforcement division is investigating its first officer-involved shooting of the year. a sled spokesperson says it happened early saturday morning in santee. orangeburg county sheriff's deputies responded to an incident at a nightclub, and someone shot at a deputy. the deputy, who was not hurt, returned fire. berry says it's not known if the deputy hit anyone, because the car the person was in, drove away. he says there is no dash-cam video of the incident. sled took over the investigation, per o-c-s-d's request. last year, there were 48 officer involved shootings here in south carolina. and we now know the name of the man killed friday night, when he was hit by two cars on garners ferry

"ride along two" has knocked "star wars" from its top weekend box office spot. the comedy with ice cube and kevin hart is expected to make more than 34-million dollars in its opening weekend. leonardo dicaprio's thriller "the revenant" remained in second place, raking in more than 29-million. but the force is still strong... "star wars" rounding out the top three at the box office... and bringing in an estimated 25- million dollars. and we're wishing a happy belated birthday to betty white. the actress turned 94 over the weekend. white has worked in showbiz since the 1940s.... but is probably best known for her role as sweet and clueless rose on "the golden girls." white was recognized in the

most everybody. a couple spots falling below that as we speak. winds right now won't help us out too much, wind out of the west at around 5 to 10 miles a hour in some spots but when it's this cold it's going to add a little extra wind chill factor, feels like 29 downtown, 24 newberry, 24 saluda. even those areas not our coldest spots are seeing stronger winds so it actually feels colder than some of the other areas where it's colder on the thermometer. the wind chill making it colder and we will see that through the day. i think the wind will shift out of the northwest as high pressure builds in from the west and northwest and that will impart that northerly flow and shift the wind, that will pull much colder air into the southeast and especially into the carolinas. this front moves off the coast, that doesn't bother us, there's

we're seeing a few snow showers toward the ozarks, memphis seeing snow. closer to home across the smoky mountains as you get towards on the western side of ashville and east side of knoxville, the mountains seeing a few snow showers, extreme highest elevations this morning but for us in the midlands nothing to worry about at all. clear skies, smooth sailing, lots of sunshine but not a lot of warmth to go with it. highs only in the mid to upper 40s by this afternoon and we will stick with the cool conditions through the next couple days. even the warmest time of the day it will be chilly. 20 for the low tonight. we will see several spots in the teens. everybody will see wind chill in the teens and high of 42 with a low around 20 tonight. cold start to the week, rain coming but it will be warmer when the moisture comes through so we tonight have to worry about any -- we don't have to worry about any frozen

below freezing downtown, we're just at 31, we're likely to be much, much colder before we head into tonight. before tomorrow we have to get through today, high of 48. that's the warmest time. a lot of events going on for martin luther king, we'll be in the 30s for much of the hours, eventually climb into the mid to upper 40s. we will see a lot of sunshine that will bring sensible warmth for us, it will be coal. we lose the warmth, at least most of it. lows tonight under clear and cold conditions. rochelle: here's a quick look at stories that are making headlines across the country. the u.s. embassy says it's working in full cooperation with iraqi authorities to find several americans who have gone missing in iraq. local media reports three americans were kidnapped by militias in baghdad while on their way to the airport. the missing americans haven't been identified. three americans released by iran

germany where they're being medically evaluated. another detainee has chosen to remain in iran and a fifth has already arrived home in massachusetts. two of the free detainees are jason rezaian and fromer u.s. marine amir hekmati. in exchange of the americans' freedom, the u.s. pardoned or dropped charges against seven iranians serving time for or accused of sanction violations in the u.s. rochelle: and the search for 12 missing marines from downed helicopters continues this morning. the marines were aboard two transport helicopters that crashed in hawaii last week. searchers have spotted debris, but so far, no signs of the two aircrafts' crew. the coast guard says it doesn't intend to call off or suspend the search. rochelle: shifting gears to sports, the carolina panthers just keep pounding. crysty, what can you tell us about the weekend playoff victory? >> crysty: plenty of weekend drama on the football field for the carolina panthers and on the basketball court for the

below freezing for most locations around town. right at freezing in newberry at 32. 28 in camden, that's our coldest spot as of right now. we'll warm up throughout the day but as i mention it will be a slow, gradual warm up. temperatures well below normal throughout the day. we are starting out pretty seasonable for january standards, below normal by this afternoon by 10 degrees. wind out of the west and southwest, 5 to 10 miles at the moment and that will allow us to see even cooler air, it will feel colder for much of the area as we move throughout the morning. wind chills in the low to mid-teens, a very chilly start regardless where you are starting out. we will see a lot of sunshine, high pressure to our west and northwest. that will bring northerly winds and that is bringing more of the lake effect snow for much of the great lakes.

voter support. it was just over a week ago clinton received the endorsement of the chairman of the congressional black caucus and is beating sanders more than two to one among minority voters. but sanders isn't concerned, saying his congressional record and stance on criminal justice will put him on the path to victory. >> sanders: as secretary clinton well knows, when this campaign began, she was 50 points ahead of me. we were all of 3 percentage points. guess what? in iowa, new hampshire, the race is very, very close. >> crysty: and while sanders hinted at an upset in iowa and new hampshire, a new poll shows nationally, hillary clinton still holds a crushing lead over her competition. >> rochelle: clinton has a 59% support from democratic primary voters nationwide. the nbc-wall street journal poll finds that's compared to 34% for sanders. but sanders would do better than

match-up against donald trump. based on a separate poll by the same organizations, sanders would beat trump by 15 points, compared to clinton's 10 point advantage. and on this martin luther king day, the democratic presidential hopefuls are heading here to columbia next. hillary clinton, bernie sanders, and martin o'malley will all participate in king day at the dome. the event includes a march along washington street and a rally at the state house all in honor of martin luther king. that rally is set to start at 10:15. >> crysty: and if you're looking to attend today's event honoring martin luther king, the city's parking garages will be open to the public for free. those garages are the lady street, washington street, sumter street, taylor street, and cannon street garages. lincoln garage, park street garage and arsenal hill garage will also be open for no charge for the event. in addition, street meters will not be enforced today. but pay close attention to those

meters down town that say no parking. crysty: and while the democratic hopefuls make their way to the capital city, some republican presidential candidates are also taking time to reach out to voters in south carolina. >> rochelle: donald trump and senator ted cruz were in myrtle beach the this weekend attending the south carolina tea party coalition convention. ben carson, mike huckabee, carly fiorina and rick santorum also took part in the event. the convention puts the candidates face to face with conservative grassroots leaders and voters. presidential candidate mike huckabee left the campaign trail yesterday, instead taking up post behind the pulpit at trinity baptist church in cayce. >> rochelle: you heard it right there. the republican is a former southern baptist pastor. he's also an accomplished bass player. huckabee played with the tbc cayce choir and praise band. the former governor of arkansas

thanks for waking up with us on this monday morning, your time 6:49. those of you on a health kick for your new year's resolutions have something to look forward to. chick-fil-a is officially releasing their "superfood" menu item today for something tasty and healthy. it's a new salad with the combination of kale, and broccolini all tossed in a maple vinaigrette with dried cherries and an assortment of nuts sprinkled on top. sound delicious. this is replacing their coleslaw side item. rochelle: and another popular fast food chain is adding a food item to the menu that looks "finger-lickin' good." kfc is whipping up some chicken with a little more kick. it's "nashville hot chicken" and this item also comes out today. it pays homage to a popular local specialty in nashville. kfc will offer the spicy chicken at all of its more than 4,000 u.s. stores. rochelle: now let's turn things over to crysty for a check of what's making things hot in hollywood.
