supports a debt free college plan.... while senator bernie sanders promotes a tuition-free plan for public colleges and universities. hillary clinton also took time to address education... and its ties to a day dedicated to doctor king's legacy. it's a 33 message echoed by civil rights leaders present at yesterday's event. activists say they have shifted their sights on education inequity here in south carolina. n-double-a-c-p members say a minimally adequate education system is not enough... and that every student deserves the same high level instruction and learning environment. a goal that , activists say, isn't possible,

participation. 33 just last week governor nikki haley rolled out a new initiative for education reform, but it'll be legislators who have the final say on what's passed into law. lawmakers we've spoken with expect education to be a top priority during this legislative session. new this morning... officals with the columbia fire department are investigating the cause behind an early morning house fire. it happened in the one-hundred block of olde springs road. this is a developing story... but we'll be sure to bring you more details as they become available. and after days of searching... four life rafts believed to be aboard two military helicopters that collided off hawaii have been retrieved. according to the u-s coast guard... some of the rafts were inflated... but it's not clear how that happened. rescuers have expanded their search for 12 marines... including 22-year old sergeant jeffrey sempler of woodruff, south carolina... missing since their two

teen numbers, you get the quarterback numbers on the temperature gauge it will be very warm on the thermometer this morning. wind are light but we are still seeing a wind chill with wind around 3 to 5 miles a hour, that does make a difference when it's that cold. that will make for a very cold start for a lot of locations this morning. 16 in camden, 18 columbia. 14 in newberry. 17 in st. matthews. the thermometer is below freezing. once it gets below freezing it doesn't matter at that point. we see implications with any water, it will be frozen. we are seeing a dry set up, a few icy puddles but the roadways look dry because we haven't seen rain in the last couple days. good news there. we don't have to worry about widespread ice. it will be very cold when you head out. looking for clear skies, no cloud cover to speak of in the

carolina or georgia. we're looking on the other side of the mountains for cloud cover, that will be the case today but also the next couple days. expecting lots of sunshine for us but it will be very cold. even with the sun this morning into this afternoon we will only warm up to 40. it will be a very chilly forecast. notice the cooler air toward nashville, we have a substantial snow system that will come and bring decent snow fall. this won't bring snow for us, if we see any implications from that system, that system will modulate and eventually bring us rain chances later in the week. no rain chances today, it will be cold, sunny, we will see lots of blue skies, highs in the upper 30s for areas in the north, 40s for us at home. a much, much colder day today even than what we saw yesterday or have seen in the previous couple weeks. it's been a while since we've seen temperatures this cold in the morning and also that cold in the afternoon as well.

headlines across the country. the abduction of three americans in baghdad is raising security fears. iraqi security forces have been searching the baghdad neighborhood where three americans were reportedly kidnapped over the weekend. troops closed streets and conducted house-to-house searches. investigators say three men were kidnapped from an apartment known to be a brothel and are working to determine whether they were lured there. rochelle: the mayor of flint, michigan, says she's heading to washington to discuss her city's water crisis. mayor karen weaver says she hopes to secure a disaster declaration because flint's water supply was contaminated with lead when the water supply was switched from the detroit system to the flint river in 2014. tests later showed elevated blood lead levels in children. residents are using bottled water. rochelle: and texas authorities are expected to hold a hearing today requesting to transfer "affluena teen" ethan couch's court proceedings from

light wind and that is making it feel much colder than what that thermometer is reading. we are seeing temperatures in the mid to upper teens. wind light and variable out of the west and northwest and that will be the case today. the wind chill downtown, the air temperature is 20 but feels like 12, the light wind around 5 miles a hour. newberry feels like 14. camden is 16 on the thermometer, they are seeing calm wind as well. satellite nice and quiet in the carolinas. we have clouds on the other side of the mountntns and we are looking at a sunny set up. a lot of dry air which is why we are cooling off, that dry air cools off much easier than warmer and moist air. we are looking for a chilly superintendent. nothing to worry about in the way of rain fall or any frozen precipitation but we are watching and tracking the system out of the central plains as it
