won't be bearing the brunt of the storm. but as jonathan said, we'll be seeing rain here in the capital city, possibly even some snow by the weekend. yeah, we're talking about the "s" word. our jennifer ready is in winnsboro in fairfield county where they're expecting some freezing rain and has an update on the conditions there. >> good morning, eric and rochelle. we are continuing to see the rain in fairfield county. it cues seem to be picking up and we are seeing the wind continue to get stronger as the timings on. again, we are expected to get the freezing rain here in fairfield county later this afternoon or early as this morning according to meteorologist jonathan kennedy. sc-d.o.t. officials have been out here working on 12-hour shift. they will continue to do so until tomorrow afternoon. officials are urging you if you

in the next 24 hours, don't. be mindful of the road conditions, if you see a wet spot, it might not just be a puddle of water, it could be black ice. monitor your speed, watch out for any slippery spots, don't brake suddenly if you don't have to and don't follow a car too closely. we will continue to keep you updated on the conditions in fairfield in the next half hour. jennifer ready, back to you guys. >> rochelle: thanks, jennifer. get back here safely. you can see the trucks working behind her, she will be out there this morning and giving us updates as the show continues and as you head out for what is sure to be a messy day. rochelle: also out of fairfield county, all schools and officers in the fairfield county school district are closed due to the potential of freezing rain. and out of kershaw county there will be a two hour delay for north central area schools today. that includes baron debalk,

elementary and north central middle and high school. all other kershaw county schools and offices will be open on a normal schedule. eric: here in the midlands so far it's still business asusual. officials with the south carolina highway patrol are warning residents to avoid any unnecessary travel. but should you have to hit those road ways the south carolina department of transportation is working to make sure you stay safe. crews have already pretreated many roads across the state with salt and calcium chloride to prevent and melt ice. the d.o.t. says they've been preparing for winter weather conditions for months. >> pay attention to the updates, if there are any safety precautions, please heed those warnings, take action when we ask you to do so. >> eric: they also suggest you are prepared with a winter weather kit.
