area.... has a long road to recovery. the public 33 is encouraged to reach out to their county council members with questions and concerns they have on the project. the gills creek isn't the only area still recovering following octor's historic flooding. the city of columbia continues to get its parks back in working order.

the day. those areas in the low 30s, they saw the clear slot of air and that allowed them to cool down where we stayed in more cloud cover, we were able to hold onto more warmth, saw highs climb into low 50s, i don't think we saw it make it into the 50s, cool air from the north, it looks like a cool set up for your friday but dry one which is good news compared to what other people will be seeing later on today. wind out of the north 5 to 10 miles a hour, that is having some affect, bishopville gusting up to 10 miles a hour. 26 in newberry and saluda. 23 camden. it's cold for a lot of locations and the wind will make it feel colder. 31 wind chill compared to 17 a few days ago is an improvement. cloudy across the state of north carolina, notice the snow along the mountains in north carolina.

friday crysty: good morning, columbia. thank you so much for waking u with us on this friday morning. i'm crysty vaughn. rochelle: and i'm rochelle dean. we're live from main and gervais. your time is 6:32. >> crysty: if you are getting the kids out the door, we want to know how the weather is shaping up and you have to bundle up. >> rochelle: we sound like a broken record all week saying make sure you are bundled up. more of what you can expect as you head out, let's turn things over to meteorologist jonathan kennedy. >> jonathan: yes, and by this week's standards it will be warmer but you still might want to bundle up, wind chills in the 20s and 30s. let's look across the street on our roof cam, looking at the state house, 37, cloudy conditions, wind out of the

we are not looking at any fog, just cloudy conditions, not much to worry about as you hit the roadways, no moisture in the last couple days, should be nice and dry and that will continue today. a couple spots at or below freezing mainly to our north, bishopville, saluda all at 32. 37 downtown and still at 40 in orangeburg, nice little warm air there, but that's largely due in part to the cloud cover we were seeing and now everybody is seeing cloud cover so i don't expect areas to cool down more than where they are. wind out of the north from 5 to 10 miles a hour. notice the wind direction, north and northeast, that will keep us cloudy. we will get the wedge conditions that will keep us cloudy and cool this afternoon. it won't be the sun iest day this week by any means. wind chills in the low to mid-20s. at or below freezing for the wind chill here.

out this morning. not as cold as compared to what we saw earlier in the week but still have a jacket and bundle up. satellite and radar. satellite working for us, we have cloud cover across the state of south carolina. radar not as much, we are seeing snow on the other side of the mountains. i haven't seen it make its way across the mountains. moaking mountains towards knoxville -- smoky mountains towards knoxville seeing the snow. the sand hills of north carolina carolina, dill on, marlbury counties, you have to get up towards fayetteville. for us we will be watching from the south and watching from a safe distance because it will be cloudy for us but no rain or wintry mix is expected for us locally. just cloudy and cool conditions for us this afternoon.

hopefuls will be discussing faith right here in south carolina. the conservative leadership projects says former florida governor jeb bush, dr. ben carson, senator ted cruz and senator marco rubio will be in greenville today for the "faith and family forum." the event runs from noon until 5:30 at the founders memorial amphitorum. the forum comes a day before all the gop presidential hopefuls take the stage in greenville for a debate. that debate will take place at the peace center at 8:00 tomorrow night. crysty: on the other side of the political spectrum, democratic presidential candidates hillary clinton and bernie sanders are coming off their final debate before the first in the south primary right here in south carolina february 27th. >> rochelle: the debate took place at the university of wisconsin-milwaukee. during the debate, things got heated when clinton accused sanders of diminishing president barack obama's record. it's a move sanders calls a low blow. sanders debate strategy also

implying clinton's super pac does not allow her to remain independent from corporations who donate large sums of money to her campaign. >> rochelle: on the heels of last night's debate, clinton is heading right here to south carolina. she'll be in denmark this afternoon for a "corrider of opportunity town hall." and tomorrow former president bill clinton will be campaigning for his wife in florence. rochelle: with the race heating up here in the palmetto state, it's important to remember that every vote matters. >> crysty: the republican presidential primary is set for next saturday, february 20th. it coming up quickly. the democratic presidential primary is the following saturday, february 27th. if you can't make it out to the polls those days, don't worry. the richland county voter registration and elections office will be open tomorrow from 9:00 in the morning until noon for absentee voting. crysty: shifting gears this morning, the richland penny program is looking to spruce up the gills creek area. the program held a public

greenway planned for that area. >> rochelle: that's right, some exciting news coming out of here. homeowners who live along gills creek listened to leaders from richland county and the gills creek watershed association explain details like the cost, where the money is coming from, and how it would impact their property lines. the greenway would start where kilbourne road intersects with shady lane and follow gills creek south to bluff road. while some say the community would benefit from the trails and picnic areas, others are hesitant to get onboard considering the flood-damaged area has a long road to recovery. >> after the october flood, i think people should have a different perspective on what mother nature can do and this natural wetland should probably be left alone.

harmony and peace that we have in these neighborhoods. >> a lot of the other cities such as greenville and charlotte have a lot of greenways and have been successful and helped improve property values in the area and drawn in folks from other communities. >> rochelle: the public is encouraged to reach out to their county council members with questions and concerns they have on the project. the gills creek isn't the only area still recovering following october's historic flooding. the city of columbia continues to get its parks back in working order. >> crysty: 11 of the city parks sustained severe damage during october's rainfall. and while the city has made headway on park recovery officials are asking the public to remain patient as they continue to make repairs. >> i know that the city is working diligently to ensure that things are up and running as quickly as possible. >> crysty: officials say they are about 40% of the way through the repairs at this point.

streets in scranton. crews were able to get the water turned off but not before everything was covered in ice. more than two dozen people had to leave their homes after water backed up into several basements possibly damaging their heating systems. officials think a faulty valve might be to blame for the break. >> crysty: looks like the folks from "frozen" paid a visit to that house. >> jonathan: goodness, i don't want any part of that. >> crysty: pretty sight to see but what a disaster. >> jonathan: right. crysty: we're now going to turn our attention to your health. >> jonathan: rochelle dean has a look at what is making headlines in the medical community. good morning, rochelle. >> rochelle: good morning, jonathan. good morning, crysty. students at the university of texas are working to fight the zika virus. the students started a project they say could track zika. it's a "do-it-yourself kit" that will potentially diagnose the different viruses carried by a mosquito. the current prototype is a 3d-printed box that uses heat

it tests the mosquito's dna once it is inside the box. the students want to write a smartphone app that would then interpret the results of the test. that information would then be sent to agencies monitoring infectious diseases. rochelle: and it's more donations for flint, michigan. residents affected by the city's toxic water crisis are receiving donations from a college in mississippi. they donated 60,000 bottles of water. students there collected donations from all across the state's capital. the water is scheduled to arrive in flint by today. rochelle: still to come, we have a recall to pass along with you this morning. and it concerns the safety of your little ones. that story is coming up next.
