33 here's a quick look at stories that are making headlines across the midlands. richland county deputies say when no one came to pick a six-year- old up from school... what they discovered at the child's home... was far worse. a school resource officer went to that child's home on amsterdam drive... to conduct a welfare check.... and found the child's parents dead. richland county coroner gary watts says stephanie wallace died from a gunshot wound to the head. her estranged husband.. keith wallace... died from a self- inflicted gunshot wound. columbia police are trying to keep a case from going cold. it's been five months since charles kusko was found shot inside his home on budon court. the department's lead investigator says there are multiple factors at play...

all for a good cause. adways... beginning tonight... the columbia police department is having a public safety checkpoint in north columbia. the area was selected based on traffic violations... including, d-ui- and speeding incidents. this is an effort to reduce traffic collisions. any vehicle that is stopped will be checked for a valid driver's licence... poissible impairment... seatbelt use... and other safety regulations. and speaking of public safety... the lexington public safety department and the lexington county sheriffs department are battling it out on the basketball court tonight... and it's all for a good cause. proceeds from the game are supporting the make a wish foundation and a local women and children's shelter. it all starts at seven tonight at gilbert high school. tickets are seven-dollars in

a wall to stem illegal border crossings. during last night's town hall right here in columbia... trump said the pontiff's comments were "probably a little nicer" than first reported. despite this, trump is not backing down on his view on immigration reform. during last night's town hall... trump said... the pope doesn't see the, "strain" illegal immigration and "drugs pouring across the border"... causes. it's something trump is looking to change as a part of his immigration reform plan. trump immigration plan would involve building a wall across the southern border... one trump insists mexico would pay for trump said if elected president.. he also plans to deport all eleven million undocumented immigrants within 18 months to two years. ted cruz also says he will increase deportation... in addition to stopping sanctuary policies. cruz says he also plans to suspend and audit h-one-b

33 33 mcdonald's is testing out their own version of southern cooking... they're creating a twist to the classic, chicken and waffles. they call it... and walmart workers are getting a pay raise... the company says it will boost it's minimum wage to ten dollar an hour from nine- dollars.... tomorrow. the change applies to virtually all of walmart's hourly workers... including some supervisors. this change does not come cheap though. the pay raises will cost the company an additional one-point-five billion dollars this year. ford motor company is promoting their pot-hole protection technology on the "20-17 fusion v-six sport sedan." the company says the shock absorber system automatically stiffens when sensors detect a pothole. this allows the system to keep the wheel elevated instead of dropping into the hole. ford says the fusion is the first mid-sized car in its price range that is offering the feature. looks like someone'e'riding in style this morning... crysty what can you tell us? one 33 lucky person is a step closer

good morning columbia, thanks for waking up with us. your time is 6:12. here's a quick look at stories that are making headlines across the midlands. a richland county man is suing to block the resettlement of refugees in n uth carolina. the lawsuit was brought by walter brian bilbro who warns resettling refugees brings the potential for terrorism or violent crime. the suit names governor nikki haley, the department of social services and two non-profits that help resettle refugees. rochelle: and as many as three dozen members of congress will be here in the palmetto state next month. lawmakers plan to explore the role the state has played in the fight for civil rights and to worship at the charleston church where nine black parishioners were killed back in june. the faith and politics institute announced the three-day pilgrimage to south carolina will start march 18th. rochelle: shifting gears to sports, it's something we're starting to expect from the lady gamecocks. crysty has more on a big win.

temperatures around freezing for most of us. we're at the magic number of 32 downtown, several spots around 30, it's below freezing, but actually we're seeing our warmest spot at 30%, colder spots. right around 37, still a cold start for them, not close to that freezing number. freezing won't be a big issue, won't see any moisture at all, don't have to worry about any icing, it will be coal, 30 degrees, cold either way as you are heading out the door. clear skies, lots of sunshine coming our way and wind very calm at the moment. this is something we haven't seen of late, we have seen consistent breezy conditions, several weather patterns, it's been windy for us, whether in the morning or afternoon. starting out with a quiet start, we will see more of the same this afternoon. we have a high pressure system

for it later on. rochelle: a los angeles hospital is paying thousands of dollars to hackers to get its computer systems back up and running. hollywood presbyterian medical center handed over about $17,000 worth of bit-coins, a form of internet currency. staff started noticing a problem with the system almost two weeks ago. malware had locked access to certain systems and was preventing electronic communications. administrators decided the quickest way to get it back up and running was to pay the ransom. the fbi is investigating. rochelle: toyota is recalling nearly 3 million suv's worldwide. in a news release the company says a flaw could cause some rear seat belts to fail. the affected vehicles e the toyota rav-4, toyota rav-4 ev, and toyota vanguard. most were built between 2005 and 2014. toyota dealers are fixing the problem at no cost to the
