there are plenty of delegates up for grabs... in the 13 contests taking place today. for the republicans 595-delegates.... out of the one thousand-two hundred-37 needed to clinch the nomination. while democratic presidential hopefuls bernie sanders and hillary clinton are left vying for 865 of the two-thousand- three-hundred-83 delegated needed to win the democratic race. the stakes are high going into today's vote. but a new c- n-n/o-r-c poll shows republican presidential hopeful donald trump and democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton are on the verge of winning their party's nominations. trump takes nearly half of the support among republican voters... with 49-percent. his closest competition... marco rubio at a distant... 16-percent.... and ted cruz with 15-percent. on the democratic side... clinton leads sanders 55-to-38 percent.. still...there's plenty of unrest going into today's vote.

donald trump rally... a photographer says a secret serve agent choked him and slammed him to the ground. time magazine photographer chris morris says he stepped just 18-inches outside the media pen when then agent put his hands around his neck. a representative from trump's campaign says they are aware of the incident, but do not have all of the details. the drama continues to mount around the billionaire businessman. the backlash continues after trump failed multiple times to denounce the endorsement from former ku klux klan leader david duke.... during an interview with c-n-n. governor nikki haley hit the campaign trail with marco rubio... hoping to help her presidential pick... halt the g-o-p front-runner's

vote. 33 trump has since said he disavowed duke over the weekend on facebook and twitter. even after the endorsement... several high- profile south carolina supporters say they still stand behind trump... including lieutenant governor henry mcmaster... former south carolina ports authority chairman bill stern... and former lieutenant governor andre bauer. it's a call to step away from the richland county council. richland county councilman... kelvin washington is facing d-u-i charges after state troopers say he was involved in a crash that inured two men. the south carolina highway patrol says washington was driving saturday night through hopkins.... when he hit the back of another car that had slowed down. a witness... and family member to the victims in that crash says... the 22-year old driver remains in the hospital this morning... in critical condition. this is washington's second run- in with the law this year... leading his fellow councilman to say... it's time for him to

council. we reached 33 out to all members of the richland county council and no other member wanted to comment at this time. the district 10 councilman was arrested last month for not paying his taxes, for which he was sentenced to probation and fined. the spartanburg county coroner has released toxicology test results that show the driver in a crash that killed four u-s-c upstate students last fall... was legally drunk. the results show two of the three passengers in the car also had blood alcohol levels above the point-oh-eight percent legal limit to drive in south carolina. the coroner delayed releasing the results until he got an opinion from the state attorney general's office about a 20-14 state

main and gervais. 33 here's a quick look at stories that are making headlines across the country. the investigation continues this morning after an officer- involved shooting in raleigh, north carolina... leaves a man wanted on felony drug charges... dead. raleigh police say 29-year-old senior officer d-c twiddy has

duty... as they investigate the incident. officials say officer twiddy was pursing the suspect on foot when he shot and killed the suspect. there have been chants on "no justice... no peace" in north carolina's capital city.... following that shooting. police have yet to release the name of the suspect... but the supect's mother was on the scene and says it was her son, 24-year-old akiel denkins, who was shot in the back. she says her son wasn't armed, but police have said a gun was found somewhere near the body. a community is coming together... after a shooting at an ohio high school. crowds gathered outside of the madison high school last night. and this morning... investigators are working to figured out what motivated a 14-year-old boy to open fire on his classmates. four students were injured in that shooting. james hancock is charged with attempted murder, assault, inducing panic and making terroristic threats. police say he

madison junior-senior high school and started shooting. two teens were hit by bullets but are not seriously injured. two other students were injured by flying shrapnel. apple now has a win and a loss in its legal battle against government efforts to break into locked i-phones. a federal judge in new york has ruled that the justice department cannot use a 227-year old law to force the high-tech firm to provide the f-b-i with access to i-phone data in a routine drug case. the ruling gives support to apple's position in its fight against a a california judge's orders to create specialized software to help the f-b-i hack into the phone of one of the san bernardino attackers. the decision comes ahead of today's congressional testimony by apple and the f-b-i to the house judiciary committee over encryption and privacy. top u-s defense officials are providing new details about how the pentagon is using its new aggressive cyber campaign

operations against the islamic state in syria and iraq. defense secretary ash carter says u-s cyberattackers used to disrupt the groups' communications and overload its networks... could force the militants to use older technologies... which are easier for the u-s to intercept. it's only a matter of time before the gamecocks hit the gridiron again. but their rivals are already getting a head start. eric, what can you tell us? two weeks from today will muschamp will get his first complete look at carolina football when the gamecocks kick off practice. less than two months after finishing number two in the country...clemson gets back to work. tim hill has more in

identifying the places where you can cut back... and making sure there's enough left over to stash in an emergency fund. and "america saves" adds you shouldn't forget to make room for longer term financial goals like retirement or college funds. a u-s bank is now being questioned in the fifa corruption scandal. fifa is the international governing body of soccer. citigroup bank says in a recent securities filing it's been slapped with a subpoena from u-s officials investigating "bribery, corruption and money laundering." anti-money laundering laws require banks to alert authorities about shady transactions like the ones at the heart of the fifa scandal. authorities are now questioning whether citi turned a blind eye to suspicious transactions. citigroup says it's cooperating with looks like a tweet is sparking some controversy... eric what can you tell us? it's an embarrassing mix-up on the oscars red carpet... the website "total beauty"

and actress whoopi goldberg. the caption reads... "we had no idea oprah was tatted... and we love it." as you can see... the l-a based company confused whoopi with oprah winfrey. reaction was swift before the tweet was actually deleted. "total beauty" later tweeted an apology to oprah and whoopi... as well as everyone they might have offended. they're now donating 10-thousand dollars to a charity of goldberg and winfrey's choice. still no ruling on the defamation case against comedian bill cosby. former supermodel janice dickinson brought forth the case... accusing cosby of sexual assualt. the statute of limitations for the criminal case has passed.... but now the former model is trying to take cosby to court on defamation charges. she says cosby's former lawyer... martin singer... released statements accusing her of making up the assault. the cosby team argues those statements were made in protected documents. a new hearing date is set for march 29th. and sad news this morning. previous oscar-winning character... actor george kennedy has died.

up a long the south carolina border, along the savannah river heading our way later. we'll see the high clouds, mid-clouds and low level clouds once the front moves through. temperatures anywhere from 41 up to 50 in wind borrow, 45 in lexington at the airport, a mixed bag here and there, but everybody is still above average, march 1st. we had leap day yesterday so we have to adjust our things a little bit, but we will be looking at the normals for this time of year are still in the normal 60s, even though it's not february, we will expect warmer air as march comes forth and so does spring, it felt like spring the last couple days, we did that the wind out of the southwest. winds 10 to 15 for a predominant day today, just a little cloud cover along the north carolina mountains, other than that is down in georgia, for us in south carolina dry and clear, we are seeing a few clouds in the low country but i think a lot of it

we are watching the cold front, the main weather maker, it will be controlled by the wind out of the southwest. they will be combatting this system moving in from the north and west. we have a battle between this high and cold front. this will eventually win out and push it off the coast and bring in cold air, notice the snow, it won't be in the mid-70s for the rest of the week but i think we are for your day today, should be a nice forecast. 73 to 76 depending where you are, partly cloudy, southwest wind 10 to 15, enjoy it, because as the rain moves in it will bring a little cooler air tomorrow, thursday and friday. >> eric: i think rain is good sleeping weather. >> rochelle: it relaxes you.

rochelle: welcome back to good morning, columbia. thanks for waking up with us, your time is 6:18. >> jonathan: let's take a bite out of your morning menu, sponsored by bojangles'. the community continues to work to recover following october's historic flooding. and now the state's two counties hardest hit by flooding will share nearly $160 million from the federal government. richland and lexington counties as well as the city of columbia will split nearly $60 million. the awards mean south carolina will receive most of the $300 million congress set aside in the federal budget as aid for 2015 flooding disasters. >> rochelle: and a lot of disasters there were. and the recovery efforts don't end there. united way of the midlands is investing $300,000 in rebuilding and repairing homes impacted by the floods. funds will be distributed to non-profit organizations and volunteer organizations active in disasters with focused plans on rebuilding the midlands using the request for proposal grants. grants will be awarded starting

closest competitors just as the race expands to a naonal stage. >> rochelle: that's right, a dozen states are holding their nominating contests for super tuesday today. so why does it matter so much? cnn's jonathan mann explains. >> reporter: "super tuesday" is a chance for candidates to get a very large number of delegates to the democratic and republican nominating conventions. 12 states will either vote or caucus. about half of them are in the south, which is why you'll also hear this called the "sec primary" taking that name from the southeast conference, an association of southern universities that may be best known for its football rivalries. no football tie-in there but the u.s. territory of american samoa will also hold its caucus on super tuesday. there are more delegates up for grabs on "super tuesday" than any other day of the calendar. that one day offers nearly half, fully 48% of what's needed to

hillary clinton are left vying for 865 of the 2,383 delegates needed to win the democratic race. the stakes are high going into today's vote. but a new cnn/orc poll shows republican presidential hopeful donald trump and democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton on the verge of winnin their parties' nominations. trump takes nearly half of the support among republican voters with 49%. his closest competition marco rubio at a distant 16% and ted cruz with 15%. on the democratic side clinton leads sanders 55% to 38%. still there's plenty of unrest going into today's vote. protestors kept ted cruz from getting a homecoming. >> rochelle: a similar case in

arrests in connection with a string of vehicle thefts. >> eric: don'chez rice and caleb webster are charged with auto breaking. webster is also charged with possession of marijuana. in a separate investigation chasity henry is charged with grand larceny of a motor vehicle. william taylor, jr., also faces grand larceny of a motor vehicle in addition to third degree property crimes charges. multiple cars have been stolen across the capital city after residents say they have left their engine running and car unlocked. police remind you while it can be tempting to leave the car running to heat up in the cold winter months, do not leave your car unattended. anyone with information about these car thefts are asked to call crime stoppers. that number 1-888-crime-sc. eric: the orangeburg county sheriff's office is search for a teen wanted on multiple charges including second-degree burglary. officials say 18-year-old tyrone fleming broke into a beason road resident. fleming is also wanted on multiple outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court for additional charges that date back to september of last year.

>> jonathan: rochelle dean has a look at what is making headlines in the medical community. good morning, rochelle. rochelle: good morning, jonathan. good morning, eric. the spring-like weather is coming with a buzzing and itchy reminder. mosquito season is about to explode and this time around it comes with even greater health concerns due to the zika virus. experts say the best way to battle the bugs is to get rid of standing water on your property like flower pots. and for more mosquito prevention tips, crews are even taking to the streets of mount pleasant for the next two weeks to answer any questions that citizens may have and to spray the area. rochelle: a judge is putting a hold on a new york city health plan. the city plans to start fining large chain restaurants that don't post salt warnings on certain menu items. but a judge in manhattan granted a temporary hold on this yesterday. new york was supposed to start enforcing salt-labeling rules today. the national restaurant association asked for the order last week and says it's pleased with the injunction and is looking forward to making its

there are always oscar snubs and surprises. but some were puzzled -- not over who won an award but who was left off a list. the "in memoriam" tribute was missing an actor who played a big role in an iconic, oscar-winning movie. >> tom, can you get me off the hook? >> reporter: abe vigoda, who died in january, played tessio in "the godfather." his family was upset that the academy paid tribute to alex rocco, who played moe greene in "the godfather," but not vigoda. vigoda was also a big tv star, well known for his role as sgt. fish on "barney miller." and one more oscar note until next year. sam smith won a statue but called his performance on the show the worst of his life. the british singer told the bbc that when he sang "writing on the wall" from the james bond film "spectre" at the dolby theater sunday night, he hated every minute of it. he said his singing was terrible. lady gaga received a standing ovation for her oscar performance for her nominated song, but smith got the award in one of the night's biggest upsets. and that's what's happening in hollywood.
