the charlie charlie hebdo office after a cover featured the prophet mohammed. all three gunmen were killed in a standoff. former new m mico governor is seeking the party' nomination. johnson says the biggest problem facing the problems right now, heavy debt and large government. and on the republican side candidate donald trump continues to push the ted cruz citizenship issue. trump says cruz needs to go before a judge to determine if he's a natural born citizen of the ited states. >> there's this doubt, people have doubt. again, this was not my suggestion. i didn't bring this up.

two volcanos spewing ash and steam in mexico. all of this releasing yesterday. the volcano in t t central part of the country exploded at least six times. people there were warned of ash falling but no one there is being evacuated. storms flooding highways and streets making conditions dangerous for those commuters. the concern has shifted to mudslides as families prepare for more rain.

some even had to be rescued from their cars. even a police car pushing a vehicle there. storms so powerful water broke right through the walls of an l.a. restaurant. >> hate to see them dealing with that. julie, when will things clear up for them? >> they have at least two more days of this. my family and friends there with scared especially because a lot of them do live along the coast. not only are they dealing with the flooding concerns but rough surf. that's a major mess up and down the west coa of california. the bad thing is is it's coming all at one time. the good thing is they really do need it. they can't understand it now because it's causing problems but they do need it. it's comfortable out there and not wet. that is a land breeze

provide for the possibility of patchy fog developing over inland parts of broward and mudslide. otherwise enjoy this morning. it's comfortable. 62 in pembroke pines as well as kendall and homestead. 65 down by the keys. with the winds moving in from the northwest, they are not nearly as strong and the wind speeds will start to calm down by the afternoon but that wind direction is going to keep u really dry and comfortable but warm us up. currently you can see the showers moving offshore. basically made a very gloomy day. it's right here and it's focusing all of its energy right now off of the southeast coast of the united states. the good news is that will continue to push away and we are expecting dry conditions today and into tomorrow. before that we will see mostly clear skies throughout the morning. that's why we're going to see that possibility ofome patchy fog. showers and storms starting to develop over

during one of the many fronts that have moves into california. this will be our next front as it moves in from the weekend. there is still plenty of areas dealing with winter-like temperatures. 20s and 30s in the nation's midsection up and down the east coast as well. highs will actually reach the upper 70s. we'll see the 80s tomorrow and increasing that chance of storms due to our next front coming into the weekend. low 60s by early next week. >> but the big question, when can we wear our boots again? >> early next week. >> i'm going to step out of the way. this is the macarthur causeway, this is what you're going to see. this is ongoing instruction going on likely for the last two or three weeks. two lanes of traffic blocked here but hopefully that will be clearing up soon. west-bound lanes here, ongoing construction.

affecting our travel speeds. folks traveling at posted speeds, 24 miles per hour, no major issues there. if they are still out there for the next 30 minutes or so, that could pose a problem. speaking of construction, we still have construction crews on the palmetto expressway this time effecting our southbound lanes in the approach to 10rd street but it's still really early at 5:16 in the morning. broward county we're accident-free. certainly don't have to have kids to watch this and have your blood boil. a nine-year-old boy here being hit and dragged, all being done allegedly by a teacher's aide. this video is graphic. it's from california. after seeing it this boy's grandmother says she's going to send the boy to a different school. the altercation escalated quickly. >> you pulled her hair and she --

neck and then she island me. >> the boy's grandmother says the boy has had a few issues at that school before but is a special needs child who does require special attention. that aide is in police custody. a father is outraged after his young daughter was patted down going through tsa security. the tsa patted down a ten-year-old for ten minutes. it lefthe girl feeling very uncomfortable and the girl enraged. >> i felt it was inappropriate, very invasive and it rilated my daughter. >> screening procedures allow for the pat down of a child. they say the patdown followed all ofheir tsa procedures but the father says he plans on filing a complaint with his congressman. dozens of

speeds. if you're starting at pines heading to the same location, about seven minutes total drive time. >> somebody got shot in the head. >> the call for help as a woman makes that call, a murder-suicide is unfolding inside a boston market restaurant. the shooting happened on new year's day and we're told a former employee was looking for revenge. local 10 news reporter erica rakow is live at the boston market in tamarac where it all happened. those calls, we have to say, they are prerey chilling to hear. >> they are, jacey. this boston market is where everyone involved in this situation is where they first met and one them would die. one of those calls came from inside this restaurant. >> 911. what is your emergency?

head. >>reporter: the calls for help from someone inanic inside this restaurant in tamarac. the man who used to work here sought event on new year's day. jason claire lay shot inside the restaurant where months earlier deputies say 57-year-old clyde muir had been fired from. muir unleashed his fury. moments later he broke into a home and shot her dead. the 21-year-old was an assistant manager at the same restaurant and the two had been in some sort of relationshi >> there's one body in here. >> do me a favor, is it a male or a female? >> is it a male or or female? >> a lady. >> is this female breathing? >> is the female breathing? and let me snow where she was shot.

pleading not guilty to a charge of manslaughter. he is accused killing 33-year-old jermaine mcbean back in july of 2013. mcbean was walking home with an unloaded air rifle he purchased the very same day. he ignored orders to drop the weapon the deputy was defending himself. nothing more, nothing less. >> a witness claims mcbean never took the gun off his shoulder and said he could not hear commands because he was wearing headphones in a picture that was recently released. a man accused of beating his mother's boyfriend to death will stay behind bars. edward cadet is accused of murdering her. they fan walking but it quickly escalated to violence.

his mother had just been shocked by who he believed did it. an altercation happened and the result is what happened here. >> cadet was denied bond yesterday. police are searching for three thieves they say broke into a home in miami-dade. they used tools to pry that door open. police say the crooks grabbed items inside and took off in a gold dodge caravan. if you recognize those guys, please give police a call. another pair of crooks caught on camera targeting a wellington restaurant and they look like a couple of rookies. two masked thieves smashed their way into the store and tried to pull out and uproot an atm. one of the thieves takes his mask off and you can see he's clearly caught on camera.

guys, give police a call. the mother of a jacksonville toddler missing for nearly six months has pleaded guilty to several charges. lana barton pleaded guilty. barton may be required to testify against her boyfriend who is also facing charges in the barton. dash cam video has been released in the death cam video of barbara dawson. dawson died at a florida hospital after trying to get readmitted and then had a confrontation with a police officer. >> please, please, i can't breathe, i can't breathe. >> saying there she can't breathe. attorneys releasing dash cam video of the woman. she was treated in the path ham. back on december 21st. she was discharged. she asked to be readmitted. that's when police were called.

hose was up plugged and she walked out in handcuffs. she collapsed and after walking on the pavement for 15 minutes, she was readmitted and died. community members in burns, oregon getting together with the sheriff. the sheriff says since the armed men have arrived there has been some trouble and now the community is worried and wants them out of there. the refuge has been occupied since saturday. a man is under arrest after another man is stabbed. the victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. that building was put on lockdown while police searched for the attacker. he was later arrested and taken into custody. ordering judges to stop granting same-sex marriage licenses to couples. the act is still in fect. this happening despite a u.s. supreme court decision in june that legalized same-sex marriage across the country.

venezuela. the new oppition congress swore in three barred lawmakers on wednesday. those lawmakers have been barred by the supreme court from taking their seats until officials could investigate. the opposition took control for the first time in 17 years. and the tnsport of nearly 8,000 cuban migrants living in limbo in crest is set to begin next week. the first 180 migrants will be bused to mexico with the hopes of crossing into the u.s. at a cost of $570 per person. somehow the cub migrants have to come up with the money on their own. >> the new eleion date january 24th. the presidential runoff has been postponed since last month over allegations of voting fraud in the first two rounds of that election. governor rick scott said016 will be a republican year.

while in south florida yesterday speaking to broward business leaders. governor scott mostly talked about job growth in florida since the recession. the unemployment rate has gone from 11% to 5% state-wide and also tax revenues are up. >> this session my two big priorities is a billion dollar reduction in taxes to get more jobs, help our small businesses and second we've got to invest more money in enterprise florida $250 million. >> scott says he won't publicly endorse any candidate but he had good things to say about donald trump saying a good businessman can make a good elected official. i know this this morning that you did not win the power ball. no one did. the numbers won't be in your tablght right now. nobody bought a winning ticket to last night's half a billion dollar drawing. the new drawing happened

zoo miami mourning the loss of a young giraffe after' really freak accidents. the nine month old giraffe named wes low had to be euthanized after injury to his spinal cord. wesley was curious and followed. >> wesley came around the side of the exhibit and was able to lift his head over an area where the two fence posts and slipped his neck down and when he lifted it back he wasn't able to lift his head through and panicked. >> the staff dislodged him from the fence but wesley's injuries were too severe to his leg and spinal cord. hours were spent trying to save him but he had to be put down. dozens of skiers trapped on a broken gondola. rescuers strapped some

there were about 75 people trapped on that gondola. the good news is everyone was taken down to safety. hey there, south florida. boy, it's so nice out there. it's dry. we've got clear skies. great way to start a thursday morning and end the workweek. what a week of weather we've had for the 2013 first fl week. we had some very cool conditions where we're talking 50s at one point and temperatures have rebounded to the 50s for overnight lows. highs have struggled to get into the mid 70s. today will he -- we will be living up to the sunshine state mime. 67 degrees right now for you in key west with that north west wind anywhere between five and seven miles per hour. it's comfortable for you in pembroke pines at 62. we have 62 in kendall as well and pompano beach and with the winds moving in from the northwest that land breeze has helped steer

developing on the radar and satellite away from us here in south florida from broward and miami-dade down to the keys. with that said we could see the possibility of patchy fog developing just around sunrise. i want to show you what's going on with that area of low pressure. it's well over the western atlantic and it's going to push away but there are some showers and storms just hugging the southeast coast. all of that will continue to push away as well. our next concern will be this front moving into portions of tennessee, in towards louisiana and mississippi today because that will start to increase our rain chances for the weekend. unfortunately, it's nothing but rain for our friends up and down the west coast. flooding concerns for them as well as mudslides. very dangerous condndions. you can see snow falling in towards the four corners. check out these temperatures. much of the nation seeing winter-like temperatures except for

we have the 50s and for us here in south florida the low 60s. high pressure is going to build from the north. we'll see a lot more sunshine today. temperatures warming up to the upper 70s. we'll continue to warm up going into friday and then here comes that front going into saturday and sunday. we'll increase the rain chances as highs will still stay in the 80s. have a great day. >> all right. construction crews still out here on the macarthur causeway. they were supposed to be out of here 15 minutes ago. at this point not affecting our commute for our west-bound drivers. those folkseaving the beach are maybe heading into miami this morning. ququkly checking our drive times here. i don't think it's going to be affecting you at all at this point. i see a lot of green on the map. no major issues. again, they should be clearing this location very soon. we have a new crash reported off of i-95 northbound just north of the exit to hollywood boulevard. those speeds at 66 miles
