and right now we're tracking a low pressure system that's gaining attention close to numerous bermuda. >> laurie: let's check in with ours chief certified meteorologist betts. >> betty: watching this low, the national hurricane center spotlight can as it chunks the southeast atlantic coast of the u.s. journeying toward the east-northeast and producing strong winds with winds some 60 to 65 miles an hour at least at the maximum point. it's considered an extra tropical low and will probably make a pass near bermuda pit of dives back down toward the east-southeast, and by thehe middle of next week it may take on some tropical characteristics but the bottom line on this one is it's not something we havee to worry about but certainly interesting as it spins out over the atlantic. i'll be back here in a few minutes to talk me about the day we're seeing. so beautiful across south florida. laurie. >> laurie: and this new video of a crash and smash. this surveillance video showing a car slamming into a building. and this scene all happening in

list the manatees here, and this is the initial process, so there's still a ways to go but wildlife experts hope that they would be down listed by the end of the this year if all goes well, but you've got to keep in mind that manatees have been on this endangered list since 1947, so experts tell me the change of classification does not change any ofthe regulations designed to protect our manatees, but the proposal instead would take them off the list. they say this is all good news because the species is progressing at a positive rate and right now are no longer in danger of becoming extinct. >> now we have more than 6,000 manatees in the state of florida, and that's a big improvement from 20 years ago when we had about 1500. so the population has recovered a lot over the past two decades, and because of that recovery, we think that it would be appropriate to classify the

in the other car would lose their lives. they were identified as four people family members coming home from miami international airport. >> calvin: and we have breaking news now. stocks are down once again today as concerns grow about china's economy which dropping oil prices. our victor oquendo is in our newsroom with a look at the closing numbers today. >> victor: we'll get to those closing numbers in just a second but it has been an incredibly shaky start to 2016 on wall street and we're seeing more falling stock today. once again, the experts say that china's struggling economy is to blame here. their main stock index crashed again thursday, prompting the second emergency stock in trading just this week. that's causing a domino effect as oil prices are sinking to 12-year low due to concerns about that slump in china which is the world's second largest economy, and that's causing global market to fall as well. so back here in the u.s., the dow jones initially fell more than 300 points in the opening minutes of trading this morning, and by the end of the day it only got worse. let's take a look now at these

north-northwest wind, and we're getting that wind direction as was in our weather plan wants this area of low pressure extra tropical in nature continues to churn off the southeast coast, generally moving toward the east-northeast, and at this point it's about 400 on or so miles west-southwest bermuda. you can see a canopy of clouds spreading over toward bermuda, by the way, and this may journey close to bermuda, producing some strong winds. maximum winds so far some 60 to 65 miles an hour. the national hurricane center paying attention to this faber as it continues to -- this feature as it continues to move out over the atlantic waters. by the nidal of next week we could find it somewhere in the eastern atlantic and it has a 30% chance of some development, some sub tropical characteristics may not be out of the questn. it's nothing we have to worry about but it is interesting to see that in the month of january. as far as what we're looking at, southerly air flow for tomorrow.

we'll have more on this story at 6:00. for now we're in the newsroom. michael putney, local10 news. >> victor: thank you. police are searching for thieves accused of breaking into several carsrsn lauderdale by the sea. surveillance video showsws man in a hooded sweatshirt and pants approaching a car parked in a driveway. the man checks to see if the car unlocked, walks away amendment handed. the video also shows a second man walking by that same home. if you have any information, call police. >> janine: a police involved car crash on i-95 this morning were a deputy was one off the road by another car. that crash happened in the southbound lanes sheridan street. the deputy had minor injuries. no other details were immediately released. and a police pursuit in boynton beach endied with the car flipping upside down and four people are now in custody. the driver lost control, that car flipped crashing into a tree during the pursuit. moments before the crash, police say one of the people inside threw had a shotgun out of car. there were two men, two women inside that car. one woman is facing a charge of
