today after hollywood police learned about this weapon. authorities say the student in question showed the gun to another student and then hid it underneath a portable on campus. security found out about that,les called police, and police came out and retrieved the weapon. from the ground we see that students were released from the lockdown. the lockdown lifted at 4:00 p.m. many parents, students, they were worried about all of this. >> my kid's in there. he's safe. that's all'm working about. >> have you been automobile to see him yet? >> no, not yet. >> i was scared. >> why? >> because i didn't know what was happening. >> obviously this is something that we're very concerned about, we take very seriously. our protocols are what they are. we immediately placed the school on lockdown as soon as we heard the report of a possible firearm on campus, and that's done for the safety of the students and the faculty. >> andrew: right now like i said two students are still being yesterday. poce say they're trying to figure out where this weapon came from to begin with. live tonight in hollywood, i'm andrew perez.

news. this time from the persian gulf where the u.s. navy has lost contact with two vessels. janine is right in the newsroom story. lemrned. the pentagon says that two small u.s. navy craft traveling between kuwait and bahrain some how entered iranian territorial waters. officials aren't going to say if this was intentional or not but at some point the u.s. navy lost contact with those ships and the ten sailors onboard. a spokesperson for the pentagon says that they have been in contact with iran. they have received assurances that the crew and the vessels will be returned promptly. no word on when this might happen, however. no doubt there have been tensions in this region. it was just a few days ago, in fact, that the u.s. navy says that the iranian -- the iranian revolutionary guard fired rocket close to an aircraft carrier on december 26th. no doubt tensions in this region. a scary situation.

small navy -- ten soldiers and two small navy vessels are in iranian waters. no word on when they will be returned but the pent goal says they will be. >> laurie: and right back here at home we are working this break can scece. a race to get the names under control at this house fire in plantation. you're looking at 5201 southwest 5th street. it's south of broward boulevard just west of the turnpike. and this is a picture taken by plantation fire right theren the ground. firefighters first making entry. you can see all that smoke shooting from the roof. the home was occupied but we're told everyone got out safely. and here's a live look again from sky 10 above that home where you, you can see firefighters have gotten this under control. they're working right now on any last hot spots. as we learn any more about this scene we'll get it right to you. >> calvin: to pembroke pines a lot of police activity in this neighborhood after officers chased down a couple of burglary suspects who ended up crashing their vehicle. local10's carlos suarez is live

carlos. >> carlos: these two men were wanted for trying to break into two homes, one in cooper city and the other in pembroke pines. it's here where neighbors spotted one of the men trying to get into a home that had hurricane impact windows. the other man managed to get away but not before he took out part of a fence and then ended up getting into another car crash. cuffed and in custody, a 17-year-old was hauled off to jail after police say the teen and another man ted to break into a home tuesday afternoon. neighbors who spotted the pair held them off until help arrived. >> they ran across my yard, this yard and this yard and pretty much the neighbors confronted them, gave them enough time for the cops to corner one of them. >> andrew: the scene unfolding on along the northwest sign of north of pines boulevard and palm avenue. >> i only heard my husband scream to someone, and that's when i came from my room to see who he was screaming at, and that's when i see the two guys. i seen one guy first, and my husband told me lock mickey in

he chased them through the back and the front of the house as well. he caught that first guy. >> reporter: the sheriff's office eventually caught up with the second man who was in a stolen car out of the city of hohoywood. >> the guy same zooming in a million miles an hour with the cop behind him. my friend was trying to back out and he literally went right by him. hes hit mailboxes and things. >> reporter: the man identified as 23-year-old bryan lynn don. along the 2800 block of 28th street in west park. >> he decided to run away from his car after the accident. wh he was running he realized he left incriminating evidence in the car, at least his interpretation of it. he decided to go back to the ca to get that evidence and minutes later he was in custody. >> reporter: and we're told that piece of evidence was a can of iced tea family the sheriff's office is looking into whether the men are behind other robberies across the country.

so 50s department in a lot o areas but there could be inland towns that drop off into the 40s, maybe coral springs hits 49 by tomorrow morning while pembroke pines lands around 42u.52. 50 for kendall. 47 for landed. 55 for miami. around 60 in marathon. and 62 for the keys. either way you slice it, chilly for us. calvin. >> calvin: today we have dramatic video of robbers attacking a man at a north miami wireless sorey. the video shows a man roaming the cb wireless store along 119th street and then moments lauter another man enters the store and pulls a gun on the owner behind the counter. the owner gives cash but when the gunman drops some of it, the owner lunges at him, and that's when they began a struggle and the owner was repeatedly hit over the head with a gun. he was taken to the hospital for treatment, and local10's michael seiden will have a lot more on this story coming up for auto 6:00. >> laurie: president obama lives his final state of the union address tonight sparks you might imagine he plans to touch on

>> calvin: and chief among them is his campaign to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mental pimp our senior political reporter michael putney is in our newsroom with more. >> micha: we can expect the president to talk tonight about keeping guns out of the wrong hands, and he will probably talk as well about the new u.s. relationship with cuba. overall, the president will accentuate the positive. the president won't give congress the usual to-do list tonight mainly because mr. obama no longer has the political clout to force congress to act. so instead he'll be uplifting, positive. >> i want us to be able to maybe walk out there door to say we couldn't think of anything else that we didn't try to do. >> michael: the president is expected to say the country is in much better shape than the gop presidential candidates would have us believe. >> a lot of what we can do is to change the political environment, change people's attitudes.

take it on president's speech at 11:00. >> calvin: four teenagers accused of gang raping an 18-year-old girl in a park in new york have been charged a adults and police are searching forte fifth suspect. the teenagers were caught on surveillance camera at a nearby convenience store before the alleged assault. the victim was walking with her father when police say one of the suspects pointed a gun at the father and forced him to leave. he went and found a police officer but by the time they got back, the victim had been raped by all five teenagers. two of the suspects are 15 years old. the other two are 14 and 17. >> laurie: we're now getting a look inside the hideout where the world's most wanted drug lord was captured p this is if house where mexican king ping joaquin "el chapo" guzman was recaptured. six of guzman's hchmen died in that violent raid. mexican agent in and him in his state home of sin lowa. is the u.s. has begun extradition proceedings against him, and guzman's lawyers have

toy in miami. fort lauderdale 67. key west 69. so temperatures running almost 10 degrees below average this afternoon depending on where you were. winds are from the north. they're light at 6 miles an hour but it's that north wind that is still allowing for some of that cooler air toome in, and by 9:00 tonight cool still as we'll be around 60 degrees in miami. doppler radar not terribly active at this point. maybe a few owners of drizzle. otherwise the showers, the balance of that out over the atlantic and that cruise can away from us with the latest disturbance that brought our rains earlier. soe look for yet another batch of cold air that's simy moving across. that cold front is going to rotate allowing for more cold air to spill on over toward the mid-atlantic and the east, and the fringes of some of that cold oozing dow over south florida as we head horde tomorrow morning on that north wind.so that means we're going to start in the 50s again, and

a few degrees shaved off that, and there could be some inland areas in the 40s. so plan accordingly depending on what you have to do tomorrow, probably standing at the bus stop with the kids just before 7:00. going to be a little chill in the air. so we'll say 55 to start the day in miami tomorrow, 52 in hialeah, kendall at 50 and marathon 60. maybe some filtered sunshine was we're starting the day and that will help temperatures to warm, so we're going to go with a forecast high around 72 degrees with the rain chance low. some clouds around, though, as that southwesterly flow will still anybody play as we're moving through the middle of the week and rounding out the week, and in fact between thursday and friday we see our rain chances going up. so keep the umbrellas handy as well. temperatures will be climbing , though. by saturday we could see a high around 81, this as our next cold front approaches, and then behind that front more cool air moving in. by next monday morning

now just over a month after is crime took place, investigators have put a name to this face. >> levon hall. >> liane: 34-year-old levon hall was arrested monday on on a warqant. he appeared in broward county bond corte in morning, and you won't believe who turned him in. >> his mother identified him. >> liane: his own mother saw this surveillance video on the news and called bso. the warrant says she told deputies she recognized the gloves he was wearing, sha that she had washed them just the day before. she knew without eye doubt that the remorse of the robber on video was none other than her own son. >> alleged will you identified by his mother with 100% certainty that he was the one on the vee committing the armed robbery at little caesars. stow defendant will be held without bond. >> liane: hall's mother also confirmed to investigators that he does indeed have two children and has had problems with clugs like flakka in the

drugs like lauk flakka. hall is being held without bond. we are live in fort lauderdale, liane morejon, local10 news. >> janine: there's some police activity in north miami. traffic reporter jenise fernandez is here with the developing details. >> jenise: check this out. we've got an accident. this is biscayne boulevard and the northwest 151st street. now, there's a lot of policic activity going on around here, and as we zoom on out you can see the backup is also causing. we did see police, they handcuffed someone, taken into custody. we also saw blown-out tires as well, so a lot going on here. again this is biscayne boulevard and northwest 151st street. but what does that mean for your commute? as zoom on in to our maps because wear seeing is on the delays. biscayne boulevard northbound and southbound there's a left lane blocked in southbound lanes with speeds at 19 miles per hour and there's also a lane blocked in the northbound lanes as well with those speeds also clocking in at around 15 miles per hour. gots some other accidents to talk about. this crash has cleared up on

accusing him of son conspiring, coming up with this plan to steal the union's money. >> $15,653. >> terrell: big money billed on invoice after invoice for repair work that in some cases was never done, and one man signed off on it all. >> whose initials? >> pat. >> terrell: pat sant ram oh the longtime president of the broward teachers union is accused of conspiring with david esposito a construction company owner and friend to perform various renovation jobs at the teacher headquarters. >> was there a discussion about inflating invoices? >> yes, there was. >> terrell: y spot who was given immunity hit the witness stand to is a santeramo orchestrated the scheme of overbilling the union coffers so the two could pocket thousands in cash each time. >> i would cho him what my costs -- show him what my costs

>> janine: the search for a suspect end with a man in handcuffs after police say he was responsible for an armed carjacng. officers say he stole a car from a woman at gunpoint in northwest miami-dade. after driving four miles he crashed that car in a street sign it northwest tenth avenue and 121st street. a witness who didn't want his face revealed said he then saw that man running. >> he was just jumping gate after gate after gate after gate, falling,um jing gate after gate. just kept jumping. he locked at me. i didn't know what he was-run for and i closed the door. it's good they got him off the street because he could hurt somebody. >> janine: police say they found that suspect san antonio in an abandoned house with a gun inside. >> victor: local10 consumer investigator christina vazquez uncovering a new medicare scam making the rounds right here inn south florida. >> janine: she is live in the newsroom with information you need to know. >> christina: this one involves medicare imposters. issuing a an alert just a short time ago. scammers will call you pretending to be from medicare and ask for your bank account information.

yuck. just drop it right in the front. he's lucky it wasn't feeding day. feeding days are on mondays and they're very hungry. >> victor: yikes. the manager says she's seen this thief in her shop before but this t te he was with a woman who had blue hair who seemed to be in on that theft. also caught on camera, a fender-bender flub. two brorhers were fighting in michigan when their car hits a police cruiser. it happened north of detroit. police say that they were responding to a domestic violence calling when that crash happened. you can see one man on the hood as they crash right into the police cruiser. those two, they were arrested, one charged with reckless driving, the other with domestic violence. >> a tragic story from ohio where four people died in an explosion in a fire inside of their home. firefighters stay a couple and their two children were kilild in that blast. we're hearing from witnesses on who said they tried to go nide inside the home and help but they just couldn't.
