look at that cold air. we have a freeze watch and warning in effect for parts of the panhandle as they are waking up to the 30s. that cool air definitely settlingnto south florida. cool with some sunshine in place. unlike yesterday how it was really overcast. unfortunately, those clouds will return by the afternoon. so we'll see some filtered sunshine but highs today will barely reach the lower 70s because of that blanket of cloud cover. we're waking up rain-free compared to yesterday's wet start. i'll have the details coming up. a developing story, iran capturing ten u.s. sailors in the persian gulf after two vessels entered iranian waters. those sailors are expected to be released new time now. >> but there are still many questions surrounding the entire incident. jajane stanwood has more. >>reporter: two small navy boats like these with ten sailors aboard are week held by iran. the ships were traveling

the navy scopes. >> we received assurances from the iranians that our sailors are safe. >>reporter: the white house insisting the nine men and one woman is safe. john kerry making the case it was a issue. this is the latest incident with iran that's ramped up tensions in the persian gulf. last month the iranian navy launched rockets, live fire, exercises just 1500 yards from an aircraft carrier. in 2007 the iranians held british sailors for 13 days despite early claims they would be released right away. we'reold the sailors will be released in the morning t this time has come and gone in iran so we will stay tuned. janine stanwood, local 10 news.

and terrorism#has grown unchecked according to him. now some oth memorable moments from the president's speech incling its call for civic engagement and the american people to fix the nation's politics, not necessarily congress itself. students are facing charges after a gun scare forced lunes of their school. andrew perez explains exactly what happened. >>reporter: hollywood police move in on a middle school getting reports of a weapon campus. some parents start to panic. >> my kid's in there. is he safe? that's all i'm worrying about. reporter: the students told to stay in their classrooms. >> i was scared. >> why? >> because i wasn't told what was happening. >>reporter: the weapon found under apollo middle school. police 15 a student brought the handgun, showed it to another student and then tried

>> discovered a weapon campus. it was discovered to be a real weapon and two students were questioned for their possible involvement with their weapon campus. late in the night we saw peopleeaving the school covering their faces. hollywood detectives remained on the scene well after that. police would soon charge two students at the middle school with possession of a firearm and we've learned that gun was stolen. authorities investigating where this gun came fro authorities say at some point during the day they believe both students were handling the weapon on school ground. that's why both students are charged with possession of a firearm on school property. for now reporting in hollywood, i'm andrew perez, local 10 news. there's been another break-in at a davie smoke shop. and the owner thinks it would be an encore performance by the same thief. orangevictor oquendo has the story.

believe, 5:20 a.m. monday, the thief scopes out the business, uses something to shatter the glass doo and then charges through head first and heads to the back of the shop. >> so he's hopping over. he pulls out a cardboard box that has nothing in it. >>reporter: he heads to the counter, grabs the cash box and heads out knocking the computer over in the process. >> literally, boom, like a ram. >>reporter: about an hour before bake queen was hit, the same thing happened at nearby holy smokes near pines boulevard in pembroke pines. >> this all just comes charging down. >>reporter: in both cases the thief only took the cash box, no electronics. no products were stolen. >> it looked like a knife. and i'm being told that it happens a lot in town, at least in the last couple of months. >>reporter: a lot of damage for

>> it really breaks my heart. i work really hard in this store. i work really hard and put my heart and soul into it. when people do things like this, it's not even the money or the objects. it sounds cliche but you feel violated. >>reporter: deborah doesn't think the thief is a customer or he would have known where the cash box was to begin with. in davie victor oquendo, local 10 news. caught on camera this morning thieves releasing video of a store owner beaten and robbed by two armed men. we brought you this story monday. a north miami business owner left bloodied and bruised in the attack. here's surveillance video of the men beating and pistol whipping the store owner. those men escaped with cash. they are still on the run this mning. detectives do believe the pair may be responsible for other robberies in the area. if you have any information on who these

two in cooper city are facing charges. it happened in the area of 98th terrace and fourth street yesterday. we're told neighbors spotted the two and were able to hold the teens until deputies arrived. deputies say one broke free and took off in a stolen car. deputies chased him down where he eventually crashed the car. >> he hit mailboxes and things. he was crazy. >>reporter: this is video being brought into the jail in ft. lauderdale. he and the teen were caught with burglary and theft. firefighters battle flames that tore t tough a home. this is south of broward boulevard just west of the turnpike. investigator still trying to determine what caused this fire but

you can see smoke shooting from the roof. we're told everyone did get out safely. items literally flying off the shelves at a party city in boca raton after the store shelves collapsed like dominos. seven shelves collapsed on to each other leaving people in and around the store shocked. >> just boom, boom, boom, boom. >> i saw one woman standing there very shocken up. all the shelves were down to starting from the wall all the way down to about the middle of the store. >> three people treated for minor injuries. it's still unclear what caused those shelves to collapse. this morning we now know the identity of the driver killed in a fiery crash in brickle. she hit the median causing a tire to blow out. her car hit a wall causing the vehicle to explode. four other cars also caught fire but no one

the robber did get away with some cash. a remorseful robber being turned in by his own mother. he was arrested monday after deputies say he robbed a pizza shop in deerfield beach. hall was apologetic while demanding that cash that he needed the money for chrisas for his kids. she called broward sheriff's office because she recognized in this video the gloves that that man was wearing. now to tonya couch, the mother of the so-called affluenza teen. her bond was reduced from $1 million all the way down to 75,000. she's charged with helping her son escape to mexico after a possible parole violation. a deadly earthquake in haiti. that earthquake centered 15 miles southwest of the capital of port-au-prince. more than 250,000 people died in that earthquake. 300,000 were injured.

people were left homeless. six people are recovering from injuries after bad weather caused a 40 car pileup. that's right, i said 40 cars. this happened near the ohio, indiana border. many tractor trailers involved in that wreck. the accident forced authorities to completely shut down the highway. fortunately none of the injuries are actually life-threatening. >> that'ss incredible. that's good news. wow, what a scene. >> horrible conditions for them due to lake-effect snow. we are dealing with cooler weather, that's right. the chill has stayed in the air at least for another day. temperatures barely warmed up to the 60s today. greeting you in miami, ft. lauderdale. 67 degrees in key west. it's all thanks to that north northwest wind anywhere between nine, eight and even 13 miles an hour. pembroke pines waking up to the upper 50s as well as pompano beach,

waking up to 59 as well. surface winds out of the north and that's what's been able to spill all of the cooler air down here to south florida. temperatures below average for this time of year. we have a whole another pattern going on. our wind flow is in from the southwest. that's why we have the blanket of cloud cover in place. crystal clear skies and their temperatures have tumbled to the 30s. freeze watches and warnings across the panhandle. so this morning we are waking up to some stubborn clouds but we will see peaks of sunshine unlike yesterday. we will be rain-free throughout the afternoon. rain will return to our forecast though by tomorrow. here's the setup as we widen the view. high pressure building from the north providing for has going to be a beautiful day for us. another system moving in to the pacific northwest bringing them more rain, something that they are going to have to deal with again is mudslides.
