we're just hours away from tonight's powerball drawing and the frenzy is in full force. the news at 4:00 starts right now. off the top. at 4:00 we begin with that breaking news out of miami beach. at reports of suspicious packages. >> let's gooo victor who has been following this for us. what do you have. >> there i ia lot of manpower investigating these two suspicious packages on miam beach. let's go above to sky 10. 1300 washington avenue, so 13th and washington avenue on the beach. that manpower that i mentioned, you've got city of miami rescue. they have a haz-mat there team. miami beach, they have a haz-mat team. the fbi is also investigating and we're told that the lead investigators on this will be postal inspectors, but they're on their way down from miramar. so what we can confirm right now from miami beach pd. they tell us that two packages were left behind at the post office there on 13th and washington. they were deemed suspicious and now they are investigating. our own andrew measures just arrived on the scene.

>> victor like you said we pulled up here a couple minutes ago and there are haz-mat crews accident they are getting ready find these fire trucks.like you are saying, we know that two suspicious packages were left behind this post office early this morning. they were deemed suspicis and then the fbi, miami beach police, they all came out here to investigate. like you were saying, again, the postal inspectors, they are in charge of this investigation. they're on their way down right now we understand from miramar. i want you to take a look at this busy scene from sky 10onitoring this situation overhead. miami beach is maintaining a perimeter around this area. haz-mat is still on scene. they're getting other crews ready to go in, to move in. it's unclear if they're going to have to detonate this device. we're waiting. more information from police. i see that the fire, public information officer just pulled up. as soon as we get anything new we'll be right back here on local10 news. we're live on miami beach.

>> a shooting in miami gardens. >> loc10 news shyann malone. she's live at the scene with details so far. >> actually we switched over to miamiardens, pd where i just talked to a spokesperson who told me that the person was shot in the leg. that person is expected to be okay, but the shooter is still on the run. >> sky 10 fing high above the scene. it appears the shooting happened in the 3,000 block of northwest 194th terrace in miami gardens. you can still see several evidence markers marking the ground as officers work the scene trying to figure out what happened outside this home. i am told one person was shot and taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. >> again, police are still looking for a shooter in this incident. they believe he or she may have jumped into a getaway car, but we're still working on those details. as soon as we get more information we'll get them to you. reporting live in miami gardens,

they think they're going to win it again. i was at the keller williams real estate office in plantation. laurie and her crew won $1 million back in 2013. they invested $2,100 in this billion dollar powerball and they say it is exciting, it is fun, and they feel they have a chance to win it again. they have advice for anyone else who is in an office pool. >> if we're lucky enough and we win that billion dollars, i will personally still work. love what i do. my advice is that if you're going to win a l/ttery pool, have one person in charge. make sure that you copy all of the tickets and distribute them to everyone who is in theool. have them sign something saying that they agree whatever your rules are. >> and i tell you, it is lot tow fever, powerball fever all over south florida. everyone buying tickets hoping to get a chance. it's a one in 292 million chance, but you have to play to have a

and the s&p 500, down at 1890 closing out today. >> caught on camera a pair of robberies teatening to set employees on fire with gas bombs if cash wasn't given to them. on sunday this man and woman walked into a denny's restaurant and demanded cash from the register. that same day the couple did the very same thing at a denny's laurie and calvin west hal land dale. if you think you know who this couple is, please call police. a man took off from pembroke pines police earlier causing a big search. sky 10 was over the scene as police set up a perimeter just before 4:00 this morning. the man was found a few hours later. the man's name is billy hawkaday. his step-father told us he violated probation due to a gun violation. >> 10 american sailors are now safe after leaving iranian custody, but there are so many questions about

the sailors who were detained by the iranian navy were finally freed. we have the developing details on that. calvin and laurie, this is adding fresh criticism to the iranian nuclear deal that will go into force in just a few days. the 10 american sailors who were detained by the iranian national guard on tuesday were handed over to the american naval fleet early this morning. secretary of state john kerry said the sailors were well taken care of. and thanked the iranian authorities for their quick response. >> this kind of issue was able to be peacefully resolved and officially resolved. and that is a testament to the critical role that diplomacy plays. >> just days before the nucle deal with iran is set to go into force. in exchange them freezing their nuclear program, economic sanctions

april and will expand its existing international digital services in the u.s. >> turning to vote picture, a new war of words between the two republican candidates, ted cruz and donald trump. new polls show the gap between trump and cruz narrowing. cruz accuses trump of being a typical new yorker with types to the democratic party. he fired back saying he can't run for president because he was born in canada. cruz's mother was morning in canad so he is a american citizen. some say it's not exactly clear he meets the requirement to be president. >> on the democratic side, a new iowa poll it, shows how the two top contenders are doing against each other. this poll released just yesterday, hillary clinton is in the lead with 48% over bernie sanders 41%. the iowa caucus keep in mind about two and a half weeks away. >> texas rangers chasing down a big rigger.

up o right now on local10 news at 4:30 we continue following breakin news out of miami beach. causing some concern. >> andrew perez is live at the scene. he has the breaking details. andrew. >> i can tell you this much. the bomb squad jus pulled up within the last couple of seconds. police out here working this scene. we've learned a whole lot more information in the last half hour about what's been going on. i want to send you to our ground video while i get you caught up. fighting irish officials tell me that an unknown man walked into the post office at 13th and washington with two envelopes. those envelopes were addressed to the fbi.

to mail those large envelopes out. the guy becomes irate, causes a little bit of a scene inside the post office and then he storms out, leaving those packages behind. obviously that was suspicious enough to trigger all of this action. take a look at this scene. sky 10 flying overhead, haz-mat crews, bomb squad all come out here to investigate. they say that suspect is still out there. police are actively looking for him. as a matter of fact, within the next couple of minutes, authorities tell us they will be releasing a image of that suspect. they need your help to find him. as soon as we get that image we will turn it right back around here on local10 news. that's the latest in miami beach, i'm andrew perez, back to you. >> andre thank you. >> also on local10 news at 4:30. two students in trouble after a gun was found at a middle school in hollywood promptly lock downs on tuesday. police say that a student took the gun to school and showed it off to another student. >> lal10 news reporter terrell forney with the charges the students are facing. terrell.

on the middle school campus was loaded. the student accused of bringing that weapon to that middle school campus, well, he is on the honor roll, he getsss a's and b's who showed up to court with plenty of questions. the 14-year-old middle school student who local10 is not identifying because of his age sat quietly in court as a judge hashed out the serious charges against him. >> the public safety concern of having a firearm in a school is to me at least to aggravate two points. >> it was tuesday during class at apollo middle school in hollywood when students saw two boys handling a gun. those witnesses reported the incident to security but the boys involved apparently got scared and tried to hide the loaded pistol under a classroom portable. it dent work. police found the weapon and placed the campus onockdown and eventually arrested the 13-year-old and another male classmate. both boys were present in court and

by their parents. the teen accused of bringing the gun to school told police he stole it from his father, but in front of the judge that dad disputed his son's story. >> i searched the house last night, searched his room and everything. i'll cooperate fully. he made up a story. >> so both of those boys are charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds, but that hearing wrapped up today without any action taken that's because prosecutors need another day to get their hands on a more detailed probable cause affidavit, so for night now those two boys remain locked up in a secure juvenile detention facility. we are live in fort lauderdale this afternoon. news. >> right now the srch continues for the thieves who left a store owner bloody and beaten in north another crime. local10 news reporter michael miami. >> well, new information this

th pair of robbers who stormed into this store pistol whipping the owner is now responsible for a carjackings happening just a couple blocks from here. >> today north miami police believe this violent pair of robbers who went on the attack pistol whipping the owner of this cellphone store are also responsible for an armed carjackings near northwest 116th terrace just a couple of blocks from where ronnie gomez was left bloodied and beaten. northwest seventh street avenue, surveillance cameras inside the business captured the chaos late monday morning. take a look. this man posing as a customer enters the store and strikes up a conversation with ronnie. minutes later the robber's partner in crime shows up, the gunpointing at the owner demanding cellphone and cash.

fight, he repeatedly pistol whips him blow after blow. he hears the commotion, he screams for help, he returns over to see what's going on and the robbers take off, fleeing with money. >> because we work every day, every single day. >> you're shaken by this. >> yeah. it's like he doesn't deserve it. he works so hard. >> and i've been texting back and forth all day with ronnie gomez. he told me he doesn't want to go on camera.he's doing much better. obviously he was pleading from his head and face, but he says he wants to move forward with his life. seiden, local10 news. >> only on local10 news, the search for burglars targeting smoke shops. look at the surveillance outside bake queen. the crook smashed the glass door, then bursts through head first and takes off with the cash drawer. just an hour before that one, an almost identical crime took place nearby in pembroke pines. >> it looks like ann identical crime, and i'm being told that it

the last couple of american red cross. >> and both burglaries the crook only got away with the cash box, no electronics or merchandise from the store was missing. the guy is still on the loose. >> two people, including a teenager are in custody and facing some serious charges after a chase ended in a crash in pembroke pines. they're accused of trying to break into a cooper city home moments before. local10 news reporter sanely tsarnaev >> apparently this isn't his first run in with the law, and in juvenile court today, the judge giving him a very stern warning. >> a teenager appearing before a juvenile court judge wednesday morning facing some serious charges. >> you're not to have any contact with any of the alleged victims in the case. >> he is accused of trying to bteak into a cooper city home and then leading police on a chase in pembroke pines tuesday.

better off spending the next three weeks at a juvenile detention center and based on his prior history the judge agreed. >> you're 17, almost 18. you understand they can waive you todult court. >> 23-year-old brian behind linder following the burglary and chase. he allegedly took offer and led police on another one. >> the guy came zooming here a million miles an hour. my friend was trying to back out and he went right back him. heit mailboxes and things like crazy. >> he eventually caught up to him after he crashed the stolen car into a truck. >> he decided to run away from his car after the accident. when he was running he realized he had left some incriminating evidence in the car, at least his interpretation of it. he decided to go back to the car and get that evidence and minutes

>> linder al facing a slew of charges, everything from burglary, grand theft to wreckless driving. reporting in fort lauderdale, local10 news. >> three men are facing charges after a car burglary in southwest miami-dade. after leading police on a brief chase. they targeted a car parked at a home parked near dadeland mall. they'reacing charges including burglary and brand theft. >> a cash into a public county school bus. you can see the hood stuck under the back end of that bus. it all happened laurie and calvin northeast ninth avenue and 13th street. it's unclear whether any students were on board the bus at the time of the crash or if anybody was injured. >> and there was a pile up on i-95, sky 10 above the scene this morning there as well. that's where several cars just lined up on the side of the road after a crash. it happened in the southbound lanes between pembroke road.

a man was rescued from a sewer after he was trapped there for me than 13 hours. it all happened in oakland, california, and this is video from when he was still stuck. officials say a trench collapsed on worker as he was trying to attach a sewer line from the home to the main line. he was taken to the hospital to be checked out and he's expected to be okay. >> a fire rerescue caught on camera in boston. a man risking his life to save people inside a burning apartment building. he said he was driving by the house with a friend on tuesday when he spotted those flames. he said he did not hesitate to stop

getting a goo night's sleep could affect more than h alert you are during the day. kristi krueger gets to the heart of the matter in today's health cast. >> well, that is exactly the focus of a brand new study that looks at people who suffer from sleep apnea are more prone to develop heart problems down the line. researchers looked at two different types of sleep apnea. one is called obstructive and the other is known as central. >> interestingly found that not so much disruptive sleep apnea, but a different time of sleep apnea called central sleep apnea was associated with developing of de novo ate trail fibrillation. here's the deal, the study followed a group of elderly men for six and a half years and found that most of the men who had sleep apnea later did develop heart a arrhythmia. it's called in the brain and fails to signal the muscles to breathe. it is, of course, a little less common than obstructive sleep
