students handled the weapon on school grounds at a powell middle school in hollywood. >> the firearm ielf was actually stolen. >> the stolen weapon was allegedly brought too school tuesday by this 13-year-old boy now under arrest after he showed it off to a classmate. witnesses saw the teen and another male student handling the weapon before reporting the incident to serity. both boys apparently got scared and tried to hide the gun underneath the school portable. apollo middle school was placed on lockdown and cops eventually founded loaded gun and arrested the last two boys seen with it. >> the public safety concern of having a firearm in a middle school to me is enough to aggravate at least two points to go forward. >> both kids sat guy the as the judge hashed out their futures. the father a the teen accused of bringing the gun disputes his story

assistance, the first group of cuban migrants stuck in legal limbo in costa rica. they are now in mexico as part of a pilot program to help them make their way north to the u.s. hatzel vela first reported on their situation in costa rica and he is joining us live where he is waiting for thememn laredo, texas. hatzel? >> and laurie, the reason we're in laredo, texas, that's because this is one of the more popular entry points for thousands of cubans there have been using the southern border to get to america. let me go ahead and show you something here. this is the bridge they call bridge one which is over the rio grande also called the laredo international bridge. this is the bridge that cubans cross which is on the mexican side to laredo, texas here. they simply walk across it, they tell immigration officials that they're do you know, that they're seekly political asylum. they get process and had eventually they're free.

this is the mexican border town, a populala entry point for cuban migrants. 180 of them on their way right now seen her leaving costa rica. hours later landing in el salvador but said to be on their way to mexico. the price tag $570 and they still have to come up with money to cross all the way through mexico and into the u.s. we found relatives already waiting. >> he drove 24 hourso get here. he's been here on the american side waitininthree days. he's waiting on six migrants, three of them are his cousins from his hometown. the others are just friends he plans to drive all of them back to miami. >> he says they're desperate and anxious to get here and cross the

>> 25 cents gets you out of mexico, then they walk over this pedestrian bridge. it is here at the laredo international bridge where cubans realize this is the end of their journey from here on out we're on american soil. unlike other migrants, when they get to the security point, cubans simply state they're seeking political asylum. >> he points to where they get processed and says sometimes it can take hours, a whole day before they're finally released. >> and, again, we're talking about 180 cuban migrants now said to be in mexico. again this is only 180 out of 7800 who are still in costa rica. we're getting word from the coast rican government that starting next week they're going to do two flights a day so they can speed up the coast. reporting live on the u.s. mexican rder, hatzel vela, local10 news. >> thanks, and as those migrants make their way to the u.s., local leaders are now trying to prepare

now the govererent wants to take a closer look at where that money is actually coming from. local10 reporter liane live, liane. the treasury department says this is all a move to catch corrupt criminals who are trying to lander money and big luxury purchases of upwards of a million dollars in cash. >> the federal agencies want to know the individuals behind the purchase of high end real estate in the united states. >> in a first of its kind program, the treasury department announced a trial run of sorts targeting cash buyers of luxury property in both miami-dade county and ritzy manhattan. fiu profess examiner real estate director william harden says the reasoning is simple. we know we have a lot of foreign buyers. >> starting march 1st, financial crimes enforcement network will

to identify the people behind cash only deals of over a million dollars. they say they're targeting shady buyers who hide behind shell companies or llcs so conceal their identities. >> it makes it difficult for someone to easily track that owner. >> buying property through an llc is a common legitimate practice but can also be used to launder money. >> the global elite want to own a place in miami, so is it the global elite that have legitimate sources of revenue and income buying these properties or something a little bit different from that, in this case they highlight money laundering. >> he says it's likely that the title companies will feel the burden of these requirements since it's their job to report it to the federal government. this is expected to start in march anrun six months through august. depending on the results of this, these requirements could go nationwide. local10 news.

boy, it is kind of cool out there tonight. the current temperature at 64 degrees and our high today was 68s we're looking out through the lens of our mallory square camera, i did some checking and we actually hit that 68 degrees around 9:30 this morning, key west so with our current being 64 that means our temperatures have been dropping off through the day. so there's definitely a chill in the air and you could say the same for a lot of other areas including marathon where it's 64, kendall, 66, fort lauderdale and pembroke pines sitting at 69 degrees tonight, but miami still hanging on to 71. the forecast for the evening will keep us a bit on the cool side. miami by about 10:00 tonight, 65 degrees a possibility for you and there may be a shower trying to cruise in somewhere around south miami-dade county. we're watching the doppler radar pretty carefully. already earlier we had a little bit of rainfall, light rain reported around key west but it now looks as though the balance of that is sort of offshore on the atlantic side

out over the gulf of mexico waters, but we do have that south westerly flow continuing and some tell tale signs that we're going to push that next batch of showers in our vicinity. so we are still expecting some wet weather as we get into a northeasterly flow to east flow as we move through thursday. so dreary a a rainy weather is in the forecast. we're not doing away with the clouds. it is just going to continue, so even when it seems as though we have this drier air working i at the surface, we're going to have a great sun filled day, not happening because of a southwesterly flow a lot and then by friday we'll be tracking a weather system moving across the gulf coast front extending from that. this could push a line of blustery showers across our region friday afternoon around 1:00. we'll be watching that pretty carefully, once that passes we'll start it dry out friday night and we'll step into our saturday on a pretty decent note before we change thinin up again sunday morning.

we're looking out over the atlantic basin and on this january day we're actually tracking a sub tropical storm. is not alex not a threat for the u.s. way out over the atlantic in the eastern atlantic several hundred miles southwest moving towards the northeast. basically going to stay out over the waters generally pulling up ways the north. south head thed -- headed in our direction, but the last time we had a tropical storm in january was 1978, so you do see that every january day. tomorrow we're expecting to see some rain in the area. we'll start the day around 60. plenty of clouds around. keep your rain gear handy. temperatures marching up towards the 70s. some blustery showers passing through too. temperatures getting milder as our next frontpprorohes. sunday that one moves through and behind it, mlk day looks as though it's going to be mainly dry and
