especially between the two top republicans. >> a brutal bout and the five other candidates getting in their shots as well aiming at president barack obama as well as hillary clinton. analysis in a moment but begin with abc's stephanie ramos who is live for us in washington. stephanie, good morning. >> good morning to you and reena, good morning to you, as well. this was one of the most feistiest, most of the squabbles taking place between donald trump and ted cruz. seven president candidates and no lack of attacks. first up, president obama, fresh off tuesday's state of the union address. >> president obama didn't sello much as mention the ten sailors captured by iran. >> i watched story time with barack obama. >> reporter: it had the fewest number of candidates on the main stage, the high-profile prest to persuade voters before the

gloves coming off between donald trump and ted cruz, this bromance apparently over. a testy exchange about accusations cruz might not be able to legally serve as president. >> you have great constitutional rights that say you can't run. >> i'm not going to be taking legal advice from donald trump. >> you don't have to. >> reporter: cruz also forced to defend a new report that says he didn't tell the federal election commission about a million dollar loan from wall street banks for his senate campaign. >> i made a paperwork error disclosing it on one piece instead of the other. he >> reporter: he attacked his credentials by saying he represents new york values. >> not a lot of conservatives come out of manhattan. >> reporter: trump called the jab insulting and praised new york's response to 9/11. >> when the world trade center came down, i saw something that no place on earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than new york.

their next debate set for sunday, also in south carolina, kendis and reena back to you. >> speaking of south carolina, of course, we know the governor there, nikki haley has been in a bit of a back and forth between the candidates. was she there in the room last night? >> reporter: she was definitely there, kendis. she has had a couple of back and forths. more recently with donald trump. trump has come out swinging against haley especially after she gave the gop response after the state of the union address earlier in the week. trump saying that haley actually paid him a compliment earlier in the week during her response. haley said the party must not, quote, follow the siren call of the angriest voices referring to donald trump and his remarks. now, trump said last night that he is angry because the country is being run horribly. so a lot of back and forth and trump definitely not holding back even on her home turf. >> yeah, absolutely. and she showed up, as well. stephanie ramos live in washington for us this morning, thank you.

appear to be the main combatants on stage. >> analysts say it was indicative of a republican primary fast approaching. there's just 17 days until the iowa caucuses but the big question, did the debate move the needle for any of the candidates? >> donald trump is very happy with his performance tonight, ted cruz may have some questions and looking forward to new hampshire, i think christie and rubio are happy with their performances tonight. >> overnight "the washington post" asked voters online who won the debate? donald trump, winning overwhelmingly with 8 %. and voters also taking to social media during the debate. the #gopdebate was popular, top trending topic on twitter all night long. >> here are the top talked about issue, iran, immigration and isis during the debate. also on facebook, donald trump topping the list of most ted cruz and marco rubio. and stay with abc news for the latest on the debate.

"good morning america." so, apparently getting the democratic presidential nomination no longer a cakewalk for hillary clinton. the former secretary of state has lost the huge lead in the national polls and right now trails bernie sanders in new hampshire. on "the tonight show with jimmy fallon" she agreed it's a tight race between them but denied she was ever really that far ahead. >> that's really artificial. all of those early soundings and polls. once you get into it, this is a democratic election for our nominee and it gets really depends. >> clinton adds the nomination isn't a job that's given away. she also says that donald trump is a lot more obsessed with her then she is with him. but she admits clinton/trump matchup would, quoting here, would be quite the showdown. so is today the day when we learn who the three winning powerball jackpot tickets, those winners are? what we do know about the winning tickets is where they

more wet weather is on tap for the west coast stretching from the san francisco bay area north to washington state. that means soaking rain and coastal areas and several inches of snow in the sierra, the cascades and rockies and just in time for the weekend, the other side of the country is bracing for a nor'easter carrying heavy wind, rain and snow from florida to maine and also this about a hurricane in january? abc's rob marciano explains. >> this system, this nor'easter starts in the gulf of mexico. we time it out here and stop the clock midafternrnn across the carolinas, heavier rain developing here. a fast-moving system. the good news by the time saturday rolls around it's off the coast of cape cod, the playoff game in foxborough should be okay. alex, a january storm 300 miles south of the azores. will still be a hurricane when it crosses it.

two days in jail after she was crowned. keffeler is also involved in another police investigation into the stabbing of a soccer star. a light rail driver in houston is going to have to do some explaining when he gets to work. he was caught on cera seemingly asleep at the controls of his train for at least ten minutes. that is until seone knocked on his window. the train was stopped at a station so passengers weren't in danger. his bosses say they're investigating the incident. the spurs consider last night's big win, one of the biggest for the season. >> for jimmy butler it was the bibiest night of his career. details from our friends at he pen. good morning, it's "sportscenter" in los angeles. kenny mayne along with stan verrett. a couple of great nba games. >> it's a good league. basketball right at you. cavs and kawhi leonard against the spurs in san anton.
