you'll want to taket very slow. again, starting to see, luckily we're starting to see some of the that blue sky on the on the horizon. live in miami beach, derek shore, local10 news. >> meterologist: the skies are clearing. let's take to you a developing story out of high plea. a woman found dead in her home, and police now have someone in custody who they say tried to purn burn the evidence. our reporter amy viteri is live in high let's latest. >> amy: laurie, this is an incredibly gruesome and sad rry stowre. hialeah police arrested that man for illegallist killing his own mother inside their apartment, stabbing her and burning her. he said an imagery dern this all of this. i want to show you his mugshot. police police tell us this is 36-year-old william garcia. investigators charged himith killing his 58y-year-old mother lourdes garcia in the apartment

and 22nd court. according to police a family member found lourdes with burn marks on her body and flood blood you footprints in the bedroom. investigator say they found him in the bedroom and he said an imaginary person stabbed they several times, tried to rehe have have move her eyes and set her on fire. he said he tried to put out the flames. the footprints on his shoes matched those in the bedroom. also told police lourdes -- he called her by her name -- telling them she was not his mother because he said she was evil. andy several neighbors tolds they heard loud noises that night. >> my mom, she heard some noise like they were having an participating besides that, nothing else. >> amy: we learned garcia had been arrested several times before. he had been declared incompetent and he had letters been previously order today stay away from his mother. he's now charged with arson, causing bodily harm, swelling being charged with second degree

we're live at the hialeah department police department, amy viteri. >> victor: we've breaking news from wall street where it's been another miserable day of deep market drops. investors are worried. let's get to chael putney. lease in the newsroom to explain. >> michael: what's going on is a lack of investor confidence confidence in the u.s. economy, weak retail sales in december and the lowest dip yet in the price of oil. it all adds up to the worst start of a new year for the stock market ever. the closing bell sounded just a minute ago on wall street. traders were glad to see this dained. let's take a look at where the market wound. here are the closing numbers. the dow jones industrial average was 390 points, about 2.5%. the dow down more than 500 points at one point. the nasdaq closed down 126 points. that's about 2.7%. the s&p 500 index closed as the 1876, down 44 points.

weeks of trading in history. one part of the problem today was walmart. the retail giant, it announced it will close 269 stores in the u.s., and a few authori in brazil. walmart got pounded during the holiday selling season by amazon and by brick andortar competitors. experts say the biggest factor in today's big market losses was the price of oil that fell below $30 a barrel. that is the lowest it has been since 2003. those low oil prices, they're good for you when you fill up at theas pump. they are disastrous for the oil industry and for wall street. we are in the newsroom, laurie, back to you. >> laurie: the investigation into a hit-and-run crash on miami beach, it is really heating up. the family of the victims have flown into town. there's now surveillance video of the crash, and local10 news has learned that the victims were federal agents.our on andrew perez is live on miami beach now with the latest. andrew.

this was really a huge rain event around miami. record rain for this day, almost squeeze can out an inch and a half. psyc the numbers, 1.48 official today in miami, 1.66 in kendall. fort lauderdale, rain measurable alal over the place. even in marathon 1.5 inches where earlier there was reports of a tornado although that was not confirmed. this is where the rain is showing itself now. outside of broward, miami-dade county and now the keys. this is pushing off to the east, so the weather is on the mend. key west starting to dry out even though we see a few showers down near the straits. looking a lot better around marathon. most of the right now east side of the peninsula, and that's generally where this is going to stay as it's tending to move off toward the east.key largo, you are one of those last spots to finally get out of avy stuff and we are noting some improvements for the upper keys indeed. but still a few moderate heavy shower left just north of the upper keys.

the threat for severe weather, that's over. anywhere where you're seseng rain, that's all it's going to be, just a little bit of rainfall, and we'll soon get out of it as the system has tended to move toward the east about 35 miles an hour. this is the view around miami-dade county. earlier we were just covered, not so much at this point, nuisance rainfall in any one spot, downtown miami plud kanye you as well. then broward county a few patches of rain here and there but nothing terribly heavy. so we're good to go if we are planning to go out tonight and we are hoping not to get anymore heavy rainfall. it's not in the forecast for the rest of tonight. so we're done with it. but we will hang onto the clouds. temperatures generally hoverin in the upper 60s. frontal system on the move, and this front is going to cross south florida tonight. behind it we will catch some air that will be drier. morning clouds to start, and then more sun during the afternoon. and notice this forecast model. saturday 10:00 p.m. it is showing some rain down

children hit by a car while they were walking down a street in sunrise in 2014. now finally almost two years later a suspect is facing charges in the crash that killed a four-year-old boy. our own todd tongen is live in fort lauderdale with the latest. todd. >> todd: laurie, as you mentioned, this accident happening nearly two years ago. in fact, that woman and her surviving son are out of the hospital and recovered from their injuries. meanwhile, the driver that's accused of being behind the wheel in that fatal wreck, andrew perez, has gotten into another accident since and been cited. his license has also been suspended. this morning he turned himself in to police. >> good morning, mr. perez. you have the right to remain silent. >> todd: andrewy perez faced a judge facing a v vicular homicide charge and two counts of reckless driving with injuries. it all stem cells from an accident back in sunrise in march of 2014. sunrise police say perez was

in a black bmw student 4200 block of pine island road north of oakland park boulevard. >> 80 to 83 miles an hour. >> todd: police say he lost control of the car, jumped the curb and hit a mother and her two children finally a cement sign. in the 911 transcripts, a caller can be heard saying "there's people hit, people with a stroller. there's a baby on the ground, and the mother on the ground." four-year-old abdallah staih was killed. seven-year-old ahmad staih was injured, and their mother 37-year-old natt al was critical injured after the -- natt -- >> the mother has a fractured skull, arm, neck where she was hospitalized fire lengthy period of time and a seven-month-old ep baby hospitalized as well. >> todd: perez did stay on the scene and told police another car cut him off. police say he was doing over 80 in a 40-mile-per-hour zone.

we have an accident on i-95 northbound. that accident is right at northwest 103rd street. taking a look here, we are seeing some delays as well, speeds at 21 miles per hour. and another accident on the airport expressway. this is asou're heading west approaching us-27. looks like traffic is moving, though, at 41 miles per hour. but you are going to run into some delays as you're approaching with speeds also at 10 miles per hour. victor, laurie. >> victor: thank you. we have breaking news right now you about that hit-and-run on miami beach this morning. we're told from miami beach police that they have found the car that they were looking for and they have also made an arrest. this put two people in the hospital. >> laurie: just about half an hour ago our own andrew preves reported the steam this investigation has had because this hitnd-run happened early this morning around hispaniola and collins avenue, and when miami-dade police are out, miami beach police be, rather,igured out these were federal agents to deal with homeland security, thth really put t pressure on, surveillance video was found of this crash, this
