to have stopped at this gas station right now. many of these fireworks admitting to us they are adrenalin junkies doing it for the excitement of it. local10 news reporter andrew perez is trying to keep up with this group and he's joining us from the road with what he has witnessed. >> andrew: let me tell you, guys, it has been very difficult to keep you. 've just stopped at this gas station. they stopped at a bp gas station and shell. 441 near 595. this is about the third stop that we have seen. again they've got to keep gassing up. it seems they start making plans after a while.the one thing i have learned driving around trying to follow this is that this event is just very unorganized. there are several groups that have gone to different parts of south florida, smaller groups. this seems to be one of the larger groups out here. they keep changing direction. on top o that, on top of just riding recklessly remember running lights through neighborhoods, speeding, they're also stopping to take pictures
6:01 pm
selfies, taking photos of us as well. you can see out here it looks like they're trying to coordinate at this point. they've stopped again, this is their third gas station. if first one was in hollywood. now, this one 441 near 595. they usually only stay here for about ten minutes before they organize, pick up and move on. different police accesses have been telling us that they're not trying to make the problem worse unless they absolutely to have by trying to chase some of these bikers down. they said that would make things worse. it's only if they commit a felony or if they stop, which again these guys are barely stopping. look, they're already starting to move out of gas station. this is the second year that we have seen this rally. it's called wheels up, guns down. it's in part a ride in honor of dr. martin luther king but it's also in part a ride to promote more safety for bikers on the road, to talk about people who have died as a result of an accident on the road involving bikes.
6:02 pm
however, it appears police agencies are even saying that don't seem to realize their message is kind of get overshadowed by all the chaos. we have seen some bikers out here, and they could be lone rangers, we have seen some of them out here going along for the ride. they're king cars, riding on the wrong side of the road. it's very frustrating. last year we saw a few fender-benders involving cars and bikes because of this rally, if you will. this year we know of at least one serious injury at this point that we're still working on getting more information. we're out here. it seems these guys are about to get going. we're going to track them every step of the way to keep you and your family safe here on local news. i'll send it had back to you guys. >> calvin: is possible that you can grab this gentleman right here and ask them what they're doing and why they're doing it? >> andrew: give me one second because it's been a little bit all over the place, so i need to try to get around this crowd here.
6:03 pm
you as they are stopped right there. >> andrew: sir, really quick. why are you guys doing this? >> why? >> why? >> because because we like. >> it that's what i was talking about right there. let me find somebody else just to be a little fair here. excuse me. why is it that you guys are doing this ride? >> it's the fashion. everybody gets together for different things. >> andrew: guys wine going to send it back to you. it's getting really loud out here. >> laurie: impossible to even hear,-them saying they're doing this as an mlk rideout, other doing it for the excitement. >> calvin: for the fun and thrill of it. while the majority of the ride has been in broward but we saw them also start in miami-dade. >> laurie: and that is where we find local10 news reporter michael seiden live. michael. >> michael: good evening. we in the last 20 minutes of moved over here just off i-95 on northwest 62nd, and moments ago behind us we saw a number of
6:04 pm
trucks. i don't know if thieve that video in yet. but what we saw were about a dozen bikes that were on the walk of these tow trucks. they were being impounded by miami police, and what after officer told me was that bikes either did not have a tag or they may have been stolen. so again, a dozen of those bikes that have been used in this peaceful protest impounded by the city of miami. i don't know if those pictures are in yet but we're going to get those to everybody. we'll also have them on lamont.com but we have spent most of the afternoon here in miami-dade, particularly in the liberty city neighborhood, and what we saw there was dozens of those bikers flying by, weaving in and out of traffic, making illegal. turns, and i spent some time with miami police, and what was so interesting is a lot of them had those body cams on, and they told me point-blank even though they didn't stop some of these guys, they on could turn that footage over to the state attorneys office and
6:05 pm
could face charges. this is a dangerous situation as this was happening in rush hour, a know a lot of people observing the mlk, jr. holiday but we saw traffic and you can see these bikers@s weaving in and out, some on atvs, others on motorcycles, but so far we have not steen any injuries. that is the very latest in miami. i'm michael seiden, local10 news. laurie: this rideout going into this third hour now as was ewet dark we want throat you know that these riders still in that area of state road 7. we will continue to follow these images and bring you any more updates, especially the one biker seriously injured. let's hope no motorists have been injured tonight. we're going tow check back on other news because deputies are taking a closer lock at surveillance video of a shootout in a convenience store. an armed robber pulling out a gun and then two other clerks firing back. local10 news reporter gins gins spoke with those two clerks -- jenise fernandez spoke with those two clerks. >> pick up the gun. i shoot.
6:06 pm
i shoot and shoot past right here. >> jenise: he she says acted on pure instinct. the 24-year-old is still shaken up as he shares with us what happened friday night that forced him to shoo shoot and kill ain' would roche. >> ihoot him first. my life. >> jenise: friy night he and two other store clerks were helping a customer a snappy's convenience store in deerfield beach which suddenly a man police surfed as raymond prescott entered the store pointing a gun and demanding money. alphala said prescott fired had i had gun, that shot narrowly missing him and instead hit the window behind the counter. alphal flahzedeh shot prescott. he said she didn't know how many shots were fired. >> i pick up the gun. i shoot up and down, shoot, shoot. >> and he said, xerxes, get down,y i got down on the ground and ethics thing i know they're firing back and forth. >> and he came from behind that window.
6:07 pm
behind the counter. after throwing himself on the ground he, too, grabbed one of the guns and started shooting. >> the only thing i could think of was myon. everything happened so fast and -- but it was so long, it just -- it was real scary. >> jenise: snappy's is a store you may not want to mess with. same lar story happened in 2010. a robber walked in pointing a begun at at a store clerk who grabbed his begun. alfallahzedeh is hoping he never has to do this again but said wheaton hess fate at a time if his life is inanger. >> i will do it every day, every time. >> jenise: jenise fernandez, local10 news. >> laurie: jenise, thank you. >> calvin: and right now we are looking at what we believe is in the area of state road 7 just south of riverland road where you can see these bikers have made a pit stop at is on gas
6:08 pm
up on top of his dirt bike as he's telling them probably to begin hitting the road there. their gas tanks not very big so they're stopping at these gas stations to refill and hit the dangerous situations are for drivers out there but also for themselves. police are sitting back and waiting for something to happen or for at least if there is some report o a felon who is involved in this fight bike ride in some sort of way, they are not going do get as they say, unless there is some forcible act of of a felony. so far that has not as happened. you are just seeing these bikers and atv riders disobey traffic laws from south florida to miami, fort lauderdale, pompano beach, you name it. you can see our photograpr jason is just trying to get an idea of where they're going to go next. we tried talking with them but at a beers their main purpose in being out there, some say
6:09 pm
dr. king's legacy while others say they're doing it for the thrill of it all. >> laurie: and that thrill can turn dangerous one atv accident already with one person was airlifted, and there is a possible investigation and closures going on. that told to us by the florida department of transportation and fort lauderdale police tweeting out that serious injury. thankfully we have not heard of any injurie to pedestrians or vehicle drivers at this point, but certainly data still coming in because these riders have broken off into several groups. they are primarily in broward county right now but cerinly they have been in several different groups throughout the evening. >> calvin:nd there are reports of at least 150 of these riders out on the streets, and last year there were as many as 500. you can see they're trying to taunt our cameras. but last year there were only three arrests. this year we have not heard of any arrests so far but just simply warnings being given out for not wearing goggles as a result of being on an atv.
6:10 pm
actually be on an atv on a city street but that doesn't appear to be breaking any laws. but these guys are doing some very dangerous stunts, as you can see there, popping a wheelie and on the atv this person nearly hurting himself on that bicycle. but you can see they are really putting themselves in some dangous situations but also putting drivers in dangerous situations. we were told by florida highway patrol that if you encounter these bikers, simply stop, do not try to get in their way, and in some cases one biker we showed you at the top of this, one biker got upet and kicked one of the cars as a result of a biker being stopped by one of the cars. >> laurie: look at all those frustrated drivers, everyone just lined trying to stay out of the waive these bikers and atv riders. it is a live developing scene. we've been on it all throughout the afternoon and evening for you. it's only going to get more dangerous as it gets dark. we're going to take a quick break and be back with more of

south florida, the mlk ride out they call it or or the bikes up, guns down. buyers and atv riders taking over the streets of south florida. this is a story we've beenfollowing since 2:30 this afternoon, and it has not stopped. ndreds of bikers taking over the streets, ignoring traffic laws, and creating some very dangerous situations for driversout there. >> laurie: we've seen it start in the northern part of miami-dade county, go up along i-95 into parts of fort lauderdale pompano beach, tamarack, and now situated mostly in the fort lauderdale area. this latescent a state road 7 just south of rivland road. this group has just been staying right in this area right near this gas station, taunting drivers, popping their wheelies, at times going to wrong direction. this type of reckless driving that we've seen throughout the last few hours. we do have a team of reporters out there to cover the latest, including a serious injury of one of the atv riders who has been trabs ported to a trauma center.

>> will: hi. throw ab extra log on the fire tonight. well, that maybe a bit an exaggeration but it's definitely chilly out. the last a chilly start to the day. 56 is where we started in miami. the high only climbed to 66 degrees. so winter, it is definitely here. lots of low 60s at this hour. fort lauderdale at 62. pembroke pines already at1. and kendall 58 degrees and the numbers are going to continue to fall off for the rest of the evening evening into the overnight. 10:00 tonight certainly going to be cool. if you happen to have plans to be out late, by that hour miami will likely be around 57 degrees, still with a few clouds filling the skies as well. those clouds continue to floin courtesy of that southwesterly flow aft, but even as he have we have those clouds and winds from the northwest have been pretty persistent and that is still allowingg the cooler air to move on in.
6:20 pm
about 10 miles an hour from fll into homestead, and there's marathon with a due north wind being clockedt this hour. lots of cold air in play from the midwest into the eastern seaboard where new york city is currently 23. if you are visiting from new york and hoping for 80-degree weather, not happening here over the next two, three days. this is definitely the chill that we're going to be feeling as we are heading in the overnight and stepping through the middle part of the week, even. so the bottom lighten forecast tomorrow, we keep a north breeze going. so we will continue to tap the cooler air to the north, and that's going to help send our temperature in miami down to 53 by tomorrow morning, and kendall, you may land at 50. there may be some isolated spots inland that drop off into the per 40s. so tonight could be the coldest we've seen so far this season. highs tomorrow in the upper 60s. check the extended forecast. more 50s to start wednesday morning. then the afternoon temperatures rebounding into the lower 70s.
6:21 pm
friday, and we cool down for the weekend. guys. >> calvin: betty, thanks. >> laurie: hopefully the dropping temperatures will drop this group in number because a lot of these bikers, hundreds of these bikers and atv riders still out there on the streets f souththlorida. mostly in broward county right now. at last chchk they from the area of hard rock on 441 in hollywood. >> calvin: the traffic infractions have included everything from weaving in and out of track of to makingg u-turns in the middle of intersections to travelingnorthbound in southbound lanes. they say they are doing this in honor of dr. martin luther king, the high of and segly of dr. martin luther king, jr., the federal holiday is today, but you can certainly make the argument this is not how many would envision that you would honor somebody of the stature of >> laurie: this is this second year of this tradition, if you will, which is just nerve-wracking and frustrating to all south floridians. anyoneho has been out there driving today since about the 3:00 hour. coverage.
