the baby she left in the freezer. local 10 reporter janine stanwood is there with the latest. janine? >> reporter: calvin, laurie, that little boy was just 5 months old. his name was hugo and his body was found in a freezer in this town house complex in homestead after calling 911 for herself. >> 911. at's your emergency? >> i'm calling because i'm -- >> reporter: you hear paula ortiz make a desperate 911 call as she stood on the 7-mile bridge on sunday afternoon. you're planning to what? >> suicide myself. >> where are you? >> i'm on the cement highway, e beginning. >> reporter: when deputies arrived, she tells them she d taken rat poison. in her car was a suicide note as well as the infant car seat with no baby and that's when

but her story kept changing. according to the police report at one point ortiz said, "my baby drowned" then "i was bathing it and it slipped out of my hands." finally they say she admitted to the gruesome truth. that her 5-month-old baby hugo was dead, inside the freezer of her homestead town house. police here would make the discovery. now guards at this gated community say they're not letting anyone in to visit the home. ortiz was taken to the hospital. the department of children and families is investigating. they say they had no prior contact withthis family. once the medical examiner determines the cause of death of that baby, police could file charges against that mom. we're in homestead tonight, janine stanwood, local 10 news. >> laurie: thank you. >> calvin: now to the medical city tower cam where once again the temps are bringing a chill to south florida.

getting out of jail before his trial. d the alleged victims themselves, they're also trying to keep that from happening. and in fort lauderdale tonight to explain. >> reporter: laurie, there's been talk some women would take to the ststd and testify about what happened so this man would not be given bond. that seems unlikely tonight and unclear just when the judge might make his ruling. 43-year-old sarulio will spend another night in jail after a marathon bond hearing ended with a judge recessing for the day. the hearing featured the testimony from a detective in the case who spent hours pepered with questions by the defense. >> the most time i've ever put into a case. it was the most surveillance hours i ever put into a case. it is the most related cases i've ever had tied into one arrest. and it is over the longest period of time i ever had an investigation. >> his alleged victims were also in court. the women watched on as the

sarulio allegedly said to one of his victims. >> play with yourself. the police won't catch me. i watch you every nit and get away with this. >> reporter: months after the alleged encounter pembroke pines set up cameras to capture the man who had apparently become more aggressive in peeping in the homes cf women. deteteives say the victims' windows were shot out with a slingshot and stones in the bushes. >> what he's saying and doing is a signature style and it's as good as a fingerprint. >> the defense countered by calling into question one of the accusers' credibility and the man she described to police as having tried to break into her bedroom. >> my client cannot be confused with an irish reddish complected individual. it's just not the case. >> hopefully on the gps monitor is all i can wish for so they have some sort of peace.

here set to get underway at 2:00 tomorrow afternoon and, again, it does not appear that the state or the defense will call any of thewomen to the stand. he is facing more than a dozen charges. live tonight in the city of fort lauderdale, carlos suarez, locaca10 news. >> calvin: jurors agreed to convict a man on 8 of the 9 charges against him. the prosecutors say he inflated invoices for rk done at the union and then stole about $300,000 of excess money and shared it with a friend who owned the construction company who testified against him. >> he was the multimillion dollar gate keeper and that money was going nowhere without him knowing exactly where it was goin >> he faces up to 30 years in jail when he's sentenced at the end of next month. >> a man wanted for stealing her purse while she's praying at the church.

you see the man sneaking behind the 84-year-old sanchez on december 20th. he snatches the purse and walks out the door. he was on the run though recognized in ththvideo. they finally found him after he was arrested for allegedly driving under the e influence last week. he now faces one charge of grand theft and is now out on bond. also caught on camera. a man trying to rob a cvs pharmacy in north miami this week is believed totbe behind a number of other armed robberies in the last two weeks. surveillance videos show the violent armed robber hitting businesses all over north miami. the man apparently threatens employees claiming he'll shoot them if they don't hand over money. that man is still at large. >> now for tonight's follow-up file, a big win for uber drivers today. the commission chairman in miami-dade pulling his proposal with strict rules uber said it mply could not follow. the commission agreed on the preliminary plan uber is on board with. the stricter ordinance would ha officially allowed ride-sharing networks in miami-dade but would have requir higher limit insurance

sign up for next year? we're in pembroke pines, victor akimbo, local 10 news. >> laurie: and the taliban is claiming responsibility for the attack on a school that left 20 people dead. gunmen stormed the university today and several explosions were heard in that area. the university is named after the founder. >> calvin: and the council in charge sunday's election to once again put off the presidential e@ection set for sunday. the ballots arrived in the capital city of port-au-prince but the drama is building across the countriment despite the senate's vote, the haitian president said on national tv today that sunday's election will go on as planned. violent protests have been sweeping the country and haiti's constitution demands a new president take office on february 7th. and don't forget our own reporter is traveling to haiti to cover the elections.

beginning on local 10 news at 4 p.m. >> reporter: a day warmed up nicely but may need to prepare for the mornininchill again. >> calvin: once again this weekend as well. >> reporter: teasing ahead to sunday morning. wait until you see that 7-day planner! tonight though the numbers are kind of sort oflin check, this time last night we're about 10 cooler already. but miami's at 64. fort lauderdale 66. kendall, you are our cool spot as you usually are checking in at 66 . our winds flowing in from the east/nororeast in fort lauderdale. there's this around 8 mph and that will tend to keep the milder air in play along the coast. the temperatures will not necessarily head to the lower 50s all over the place. in fact miami will wake up to about 59. maybe 56 in pembroke pines. and forecasting around 53 in the kendall area. and then lower 60s being maintained through the lower keys. the average morning low for this time of the year, it's about 60.

so a little closer to where we should be but maybe a degree or two off our mark. otherwise just fair skies out there tonight. some hh clouds streaming in overhead. high pressure in control of the weather situation over florida. the fewer rain showers as we look out over the gulf coast. snow showers blowing acroro washington d.c. and then this low pressure system still expected to roll out of the front range and thisone gets his act together, grabs some moisture, dumps that moisture2 into cold air and it means a winter storm on thway from memphis to the midatlantic. so winter storm watch is in effect as we move in over the next couple of days. washington d.c., in fact, still under that blizzard watch. so not just the snow, but the winds are whipping that snow. so between friday and saturday, not going to be a pretty picture there. we're going to t the tail end of the system. the cold front that starts to
