our weather authority. >> that's right. good m mning, crusty, eric, south florida. this morning you might need a light sweater or jacket. some areas waking up into the 50s. warmer conditions thanks to a shift in thehe wind direction. calm wind this morning. two things definitity warmer and it's more humid out there. this is just the change we're going to have in store as we go throughout the day. this morning temperatures below average in miami at 56. we should be waking up to 60 degrees. we have 60s across the board. pompano beach, ft. lauderdada, all the way down the keys where we are seeing some 50s. pompano beach is at 65. pembroke pines is at 54. here's the forecast. we are expecting temperatures comfortable this morning. then we'll rapidly warm up to the mid 70s. rain returns wide-spread by tomorrow. i'll have all those details coming up after the break. >> thank you. still accident-free in both counties starting off at 6:00 this morning.

getting just a little bit congested. here's the bigig curve right here just past ludlam road. also our eastbound drivers heading towards the glades. no issues either. broward county looking good as well. the green shows us folks are traveling at posted speeds. 595 looking good, the turn pike heading towards the glades also looking pretty good. the only slowdown we are seeing no big surprise the turnpnpe northbound. this is all the way down south from leisure sitting all the way up to u.s.-1. those speeds clocking in at 239 miles per hour. finally i want to get to drive times at u.s.-1. if you're starting at kendall drive heading into downtown miami at this point. at this poinin going to take you about 16 minutes. yellow showing us there's obviously stop and go traffic. as the morning progresses obviously between 7:30 and 8:00, especially around 8:30 we're going to see it's going to take you just a little bit longer

minutes to get into miami. right now we do have breaking newssut of miami. that's where we're learning an officer was stabbed at the magic city casino. ben kennedy is working this fors. >>reporter: good morning, kristi. first the officer will be all right. we're told he's in stable condition. i did speak to a witness moments ago who said this man with a knife was out of control, tackled the man to the ground. this happened just before 1:00 this morning. it's there the staff requested the officer's help to remove a belligerent patient from a poker room who ended up s sbbing an officer in the face. confirmed the officer took out his gun and shot the attacker. bothere rushed to ryder trauma where the patient was rushed to surgery. witnesses say the man showed no respect to the officer. >> i saw them wrestling on the floor. somewhere alongng those

have pulled out his knife. shortly after i heard the g g go off. >>reporter: witnesses tell me the officer did act professionally and tried his best to get that man to leave but he would not listen to that police officer. the one stabbed in the face, he will recover and be all right. that's the good news to report out of this entire s suation. reporting live in miami, ben kennedy, local 10 news. and now we're taking you back to the developing story you saw first here on local 10 yesterday. a baby's body found in the freezer of his homestead home and the investigation into that gruesome discovery only just beginning. this morning we've learned his mother's call to 911 is what tipped off the authorities but she still haha not been charged. erica rakow is there with more. she joinsnss live from the medical examiner's office to explain this whole situation. erica, such a tragic

>>reporter: it really is, kristi. after police discovered the baby boy in a freezer, his body was brought here to the medical examiner's office. once the autopsy is complete and they dermined how he died, that'shen police could file charges against his mom. >> 911, what is your emergency? >> i'm planning to suicide myself. >>reporter: and that is the boy's mom on the phone, paula vargas orderries on the line with a 911 dispatcher after she callld for help herself. she made the desperate call as she stood on the seven mile bridge. when deputies got there, she told them she ingest rat poison. her story kept changing. according to the police report, at one point ortiz said my baba drowned, then i was bathing it and it

finally she led officers here aitting the gruesome truth that her baby was inside the freezer of a town house in homestead. it was that 911 call she made that ultimately brought the investigation to here.@ police found some disturbing things inside her car which led to a big search before they were brought to homestead. we'll catch you up to speed on that whole situation coming up in the next half hour. erica rakow, local 10 news. the alleged victims and the accused peeping toms, they are fighting to keep him behind bars before the case heads to trial. his alleged victims watched as detectives stified about the video pembroke pines police apparently say captured him. they say he had become more aggressive before peeping into homes and fondling himself. hunting marbles were found outside of those homes as well. >> hopefully if i gets out, he will be on a gps

today will be a warmer day. get out there and enjoy it. 56 degrees. 63 in ft. lauderdale and key west. 56 in miami. it's still below average for this time of year. 54 in pembroke pines. 53 in kendall. 55 in homestead. we are noticing the 60ss down by the keys. a couple thing helping to warm us up. the shift in the wind direction as well as the calm winds. this afternoon will be a bit humid as teteeratures warm up to the mid to upper 70s. mid and high level clouds streaming up from the gulf of mexico. todayy we'll have one more dry day. it will be beautiful all across south florida as we await for this system right here that right now is bringing snow up torts parts of missouri, st. louis, in towards arkansas and showers over the southern half of the gulf coast states. the severe weather threat is going to be a possibility from texas towards the panhandle because of the heat ahead of the system. the clash of the two air masses allow for the lift in the atmosphere.

temperatures behind that front, in the teens and 20s. eventually that cold air will be making its way into south florida. high pressure pushes off the coast of the atlantic and we will see warmer conditions today, a beautiful day to be outdoors. here comes the leading edge of that front. this area of low pressure is going to be the culprit that's g gng to bring the nor'easter towards the atlantic states. the tail-end of this front going to be the culprit for showers for us. while we're just dealing with showers and storms. once the front clears we're talking temperatures by sunday morning and monday morning, upper 40s and low 50s with highs only reaching the low 60s by the afternoon. make it a great day. >> thank you so much. we have reports of road debris that could morning. here are southbound lanes right here. the only thing i see is this big palm frond blocking the camera. we do havee an accident

>> i think at theh most he should have took me aside and, if he felt that it needed to cuff me and put me in the squad car until things settled. >> charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. ckily firefighters were able to rescue those two dogs. they were not hurt. flames shooting right through a burning california home. investigators think a hover board may be responsible for thi fire that killed two family dogs. and those flames charred and melted the siding of that home that's,000 been boarded up. the santa rosa fire department traced the point of origin to a little girl's room in the very front of the house and that's why a hoover board was charging and appears to catch fire. the homeowner says he went to pick up his daughter and came home to fire the fire destroying his home.

at one point ortiz said the b by drowned then i was bathing it and it slipped and drowned. inside the freezer of a town house inhomestead. police went immediately and that's what they found. guards at the front of her gated community say they are not letting anyone in to visit the home. hospital. and the department of children and families is now investigating all of this. they tell local 10 they've never been involved with this family before. now where this investigation goes from here relies heavily on what comes of this boy's autopsy. live in miami this morning, erica rakow, local 10 news. >> thanks. broward county deputies, they are trying to figure out what led to the stabbing that injured three men. this happened in deerfield beach last night. deputies say one of the men treated at the scene was released, the other two take tomorrow broward health north hospital.

so far there have been no arrests in this case. a robber is on the run. the man seen in this surveillance video trying t hold up a cvs seen in the video last week. officers say he's bold, violent. in one encounter he's seen on camera overpowering the clerk at a super stop before taking off with the money. police say he threated to shoot that manager if that person did not hand over the money quickly. >> we are sure it is the same guy and that he' familiar with the businesses and this is why he's striking such a close knit area. >> officers say he usually does strike right around closing time. so far businesses along northeast 128th and 125th streets right near xth avenue have all been hit. if you know anything about that robberies or that man, call miami-dade crimestoppers

and a bust in a church theft that was here. police say that man who preyed on a woman as she was praying has been on bond. we are told this person right here who you see there sneaking in behind 84-year-old aidie sanchez on december the 20th. this video appears to show him snatching her purse and walking right out the door with it. police say the tipister who saw that video recognized him at a baptism and then called them. investigators arrested him last week for d.u.i. he's now charged with grand theft in the church case. we're waiting to learn the name of a woman hit by a car on the julia tuttle causeway. police say a woman driving a honda sieve in and a woman driving a porsche got into a wreck in the west-bound lanes of the julia tuttle. a third carar ran into them. the civic driver died at

the other two people survived. they are expected to recover. the deadly crash in the west-bound lanes had the julia tuttle causeway shut down for five hours. and it looks like uber is staying in miami-dade. uber said would havave been just too costly for them to follow. the commission has agreed on a preliminary plan uber says is agreeable to them. the stricter ordinance would have allowed ride-sharing neteorks in miami-dade but it would have required higher limit insurance for drivers at all times, not just when they had a passenger in the back. it would have required the county to run some background checks as well. >> we greatly appreciate sharing the commitment. >> coming up with an ordinance that made senate for ride sharing. >> while taxi drivers are not happy about this one, the ride sharing ordinance will likely be tweaked up a bit and brought in for additional ordinances before it goes into effect.

missionaries who narrowly missed a terrorist attack in burkina faso what kind a cooper city man has returned to south florida and we're hearing their stories this morning. the missionaries from west pines community church didn't know what to do when they landed in b bkina faso and found out that their missionary partner mike riddering had been killed in the attack. >> when we got there and ke was not there to pick us up, we had nobody else, no other contact as far as how --- where we were even going to go. >> well, their trip would go on thanks to help from some locals to knew riddering.

of the glades right there. you see all those lights, that shows us the slowdowns there if you're taking the i this morning. crash clearing up at university southboundd and northwest 50th street. and now to one last update on our breaking news for you. mayhem at the magic city casino overnight. that's where a police officer was stabbed. >> ben kennedy has been there all morning long. ben back now with more details. the suspect police say did this is in the hospitals well. >>reporter: that suspect was shot by police offic. the officer said he was forced to shoot after he was stabbed multiple times at the magicity casino. it happened before 1:00 this mororng. it's there the staff questioned help to remove a belligerent person. the miami fraternal order of police confirm the officer took out his gun and shot the attacker. both were rushed to ryder trauma where they are currently being treated.
