this giant tree uprorooted after this storm and fire officials say it was a miracle no onwas seriously injured. >> (bleep) >> reporter: its power just unreal. residents watch mother nature work. winds were whipping 90- 0 mph and the confirmed tornado touching down again and again. >> they touch down and it is what we call a split path. >> but not so discreet. that's a car being turned right on the turnpike in coconut creek and then other cars are tossed like a couple of matchbox toys. we saw properties damamed near broward county's north campus. >> a baskskball hoop came flying across the street and took out two windows.>> reporter: some residents took shelter. laura ran into the bathroom with her 6-year-old son. >> we ran in the tub and

sat there singing and praising the lord. >> reporter: when the clouds cleared up, we saw debris all over the place. trees uprooted. a commmnity bus tossed on its side. the driver here escaped with minor jurisdiction. no one else was in it but nearby apartments were also in sambles. the storm ruining part of the roof here in the residential community and residents still saying this could have been so much worse. sxh we want you to look and you saw the car r flip around and saw the other cars just tossed aside like nothing. you can take a live look out here. it's still raining. the rain has been constant non-stop out here. wenow that a lot of the neighborhoods in this area around bward college, they lost power. crews were able to come out and restore power to a lot of those places but now the clean up

for now live in coconut creek, i'm andrew perez, (local 10 news. >> calvin: thanks a lot. >> laurie: the tornado rattling nerves at broward college as it force thed people to run for -- forced people to run for cover. >> calvin: victor has the latest. victor? >> reporter: things are the starting to get back to normal. we saw students lking to and from class but still reminders of the tornado like the piece of the b bper like we found in the parking loloall around campus. >> i saw people running and i guess possibly flying because the wind took them? >> reporter: broward college's north campus was right in the path of the ef-1 tornado. >> one student got hit with a tree branch and her phone an jacket all got lost. >> reporter: they were scared. >> it was terrifying. i see the wind blow out of nowhere. it's really raining hard. >> reporter: cars were tossed around like toys. no match for the 90-100 mph winds.

cars flying around. >> reporter: the library doors blew open at one point. papers and books were scattered across the floor. crews had their work cut out for them and downed trees and even bleachers could be found across campus. while the majoty is done, you walk around campus a little bit and still find downed branches and big ones like this one and downed trees as well. after a long day these students return to their rmal routine. >> i was up and 9:30 and what is going on and didn't even realize it was a tornado. >> it is a good thing we come to school earlier since they sent the alert saying since there was a tornado there would be no class until further notice which wawagood. >> and right across the parking lot e classes resumed at broward college at 5:00 this afternoon. tomorrowill hopefully be back on the normal schedule. that's what they're planning on for right now.

local 10 news. >> okay, victor, thanks! >> laurie: and the fear tonight is we could see more severe weather tomorrow. >> calvin: but hopefully nothing like we saw today. a close-up view of the path the twister took first touching down as an ef-0 and then becoming an ef-1 before weakening again. >> laurie: chief meteorologist betty davis is here with the details on it all. >> reporter: hi, everyone. after surveying the damage today the national weather service did determine that at its peak the tornado had wis 90-100 mph. that is how they rated it. we are tracking the doppler and no severe rainfall and still the back edge of the batch of rain and heavy rain at that clinging to the coast line of broward. but that should be moving away. miami in the clear for now. also tracking showers over the

showers up to the west/southwest and move to the east/northeast and that means even overnight we could have passing showers. some of them may be a little gusty. in the morning we maintain the chance for showers. but it looks like the afternoon hours will provide the stability and e setup as a cold front closes in for more possibly severe weather. so gusting winds. still can't rule out a tornado. you should just go to bed knowing that more stormy weather is in e forecast for tomorrow and your weather authority will be here tracking it. calvin? >> calvin: thanks, betty. a missing teen turned up a month ago but the mystery deepens after the teen's father isisarrested while trying to get on board an international flight. local 10 news reporter carlos suarez is live in antation with the details for us. carlos? >> reporter: calvin, the 10-page arrest warrant paints the picture of the controling and paranoid father. the man that seemed more concerned about missing a

the world than finding his >> if your child is missing, you wouldn't have a one-way ticket out of the country. >> reporter: fighting bacters, kristen lake couldn't understand how a father in good conscience could board a plane with his son nowhere to be found. >> bruce jorgensen? reporter: that's what they say bruce jorgensen tried to do. >> they arrested me off the plana. they took me off the plane. >> reporter: he's accused of abandoning his child. a complicated story that began earlier this month when jorgensen posted fliers of his missing son at the exclusive hawks landing community in planantion. it's where 16-year-old augi jorgensen received tennis lesons. >> polite and quirky. >> reporter: he never reported his son missing after the two got into an argument and he was kicked out of his father's car. detectives allege jorgensen has

avoid talking to them about his son or the family's past. >> we don't know why he's acting the way he's acting. >> it lists where he can find an extra key to the house and two numbers to call including kristen's, whose husband is augi's tennis instructor. >> raise him alone for 15 years and when i go out there i either fly an adult in to sit with my son, even though he's 16, or someone locally.>> don't talk about the charges, sir. >> reporter: the same court documents show that mr. jorgsen also withdrew his son from american heritage school just 10 days after he went missing. the school says that he did not request his transcripts which is something they find to be very odd. now police say augi has run away in the past and come home and of course they're hoping this is the case and at least right now they do not suspect any foul play.

inch depending on where you live. miami-dade and broward with such a stormy evening out and some of the rainfall is stararng to clear and drop in to coral springs and that is pretty light. the heavier stuff moved off shore. pembroke park, you know exactly what i mean. for a moment it was really coming down out there. this pretty close to our studios. the rainfall pelting down. lots of puddles out on the roads if you plan on heading out. let's now make a stop into other areas of south florida and see what's going on miami-dade. most of the showers off shore from miami-dade county from miami to miccosukee to homestead and drying out for now and for now is t key. still following some of the showers down through the upper keys and on the atlantic side of the keys, too, and also still some rain on the gulf side and all of this pushing towards the east/northeast.

traffi >> a man shot to death in a south carolina barber shop. it happened last friday in lumbia, south carolina. police say two armed men wearing masks came in and started robbing victims with children there, too, before two of the victims shot back killing one suspect. the men who ot back both had concealed weapons permits. that seconsuspect, though, got away. >> calvin: the leader of the protest group that took the wildlife refuge is asking protesters to return home now. bund we6 other protesters were arrested after a shootout that left another protester dead. the group had occupied the wildlife reruge.
