look at this, catching fire in the northbound lanes. fire crews responding. they were able to put those out. we'll get you updates on the story, bring them to you throughout the morning. an american student has been sentenced 18 years hard labor in prison in northorea. 21-year-old man was arrested in february, visiting,dmits he tried to steal a banner with a political showingen from his hotel. despite apologizing for continue court, he is sentenced and will do hard labar for crimes against the state. pakistani officials say a bomb exploded on a bus killing 15 people. a bomb planted under a seat on that bus. nearly 40 people were injured. no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. new travel and banking restrictions between the u.s. and cuba begin today less than a week before the president's visit.

involved. we'll keep you updated on the story throughout the morning. we're on verdict watch. jurors will be back later this morning to decide the fate of officer vicar ramirez. he's facing two charges of battery and one charge of falsifying records. a bystander caught the slap on video in february of 2015. ramirez confronted him for allegedly loitering before slapping him in the face. if convicted he faces less than a year in jail. a man accused of operating an illegal slaughterhouse in miami-dade will spend five years in prison. he was one of four people arrested and charged with animal cruelty from this bust last year. authorities say more than 90,000 animals found during this operation. more than,000 of those animals were in such poor condition they had to be euthanized. the obama administration says they will not allow oil

it's 5:11 right now. and we have reports of tornadoes andn funnel clouds from illinois last night. some of the hail as b as ping pong balls. all of the weather caused damage that included a tree that fell on a dorm room. look at these rising levels in louisiana. it actually left a donkey stranded. you see it right there? it happened west of new orleans. a firefighter tried to save the do think but they were not successful. someone with a horse was able to rope the donkey and bring it to higher ground. >> flood watats were due to all the storms we had, the torrential downpours. good news is they are drying up. bad news is that's exactly what they are dealing with is higher than normal flood levels. a lot going o across the nation even though it's not affecting us rit now currently in south florida because we've been waking up to dry contions, warm, humid conditions and

temperatures well abo average right now, 73 miami. we should be waking up to 65 degrees. 68 in ft. lauderdale. 73 in key west. the air is still as stagnant and it's really uncomfortable. definitely already feels like spring. temperatures are in the lower 70s in pembroke pines and hialeah. even pompano beach we're seeing the upper 60s. the winds very light to calm this morning. moving out of the north northeast and we are going to see the possibility of some patchyog developing again this morning for inland parts of miami-dade. use caution as you're driving into work. i'll keep you posted throughout the show and into gma if we have any advisories. here's that stormystem that brought the severe weather across illinois and in towardshe great lakes last night. that area of low pressure is going to coinue to wrap around. you see that counterclockwise spin and bring some cooler air behind the system.

more snow, rain and sleet across the great lakes today. temperatures behind the front in the 20s and 30s ahead of it. there could be that possibility of some sesere weather near ohio later today. otherwise for us in the south, it's all about the heat, definitely a spring sizzle we like to call it. we'll continue to watch this front because even though it's going to take its time, it will eventually get tsouth florida and impact our forecast but that won't happen until the weekend. warm, humid and we will notice that that breeze will continue throughout the overnight hours and then calm down which will provide again for the possibility o some patchy fog going into your thursday morning. it's going to be a hot one. we'll see sunny skies with highs again above average. we're forecasting above average temperatures. highs in the mid 80s. lows in the 70s. then we will see that chance of showers. it will bring us some stability from the heat and humidity. temperatures back to

this time of year, upper 70s in the highs, lows in the 60s. construction crews reported at 122nd street. here's a live look at the palmetto. this is near the big curve this morning and no issues to report. two accidents we're watching for you. now since cleared up on i-95 northbound on miami gardens drive. we have reports of about two lanes shut down here. at this point we're seeifg lots of green on that. that means a lot of folks areraveling without any issues, no reports of delays. brard county another crash to get to. if you're traveling off of 291 and u.s.-1 west-bound, we're seeing slight delays on u.s.-1 heading towards 595. things have cleared up and things are looking good there. newly-released video of a dramatic prison escape in 2016.

john kasich won in his home state of ohio. he took all 66 of the delegates there. >> donald trump and ted cruz, you can see they are neck and neck. as of right now, no winner has been declared there. all of the results, we have more clarity on which ckdidates may take the presidential nomination. >> what's not so clear is senator marco rubio's future. after bowing out of the race, now he's back home in west miami. ben kennedy is live with more on rubio's big loss. does he stay a senator? what's he going to do now? >>reporter: that's the big question this morning. what's next for the rubio campaign. it had been nine hours since senator marco rubio suspended his campaign, a shock to his supporters. we were live outside of his home here in west miami where we hope to catch up with him later today. rubio dropped out of the race for president tuesday night ending his

loss in his home state. rubio's decision was by losses. it's in his home state that rubio dedicated almost all his time and resources during the final week of his campaign. >> i asked the american people do not give in to the fear, do not give in to the frustration. we can disagree with public policy, we can disagree with his vibrantly, passionately but we are a hopeful people and we have every right to be hopeful. >>reporter: and donald trump celebrated one of the biggest nights of his campaign taking on 99 delegates. trump said there is quote something happening in the republican party being noticed all over the world and how he is bringing new voters to their party. he is congratulating rubio on a tough

what happened here? >>reporter: detectives have stopped short of connecting all of these crimes but it's a very good p possibility, i'm looking at a list right now putut out by detectives. we're talking about two shootings and four robberies happening sunday within four houou of each other and within blocks. let's talk about exactly where all these happened. police say the first two crimes committed were the shootings, two people shot on northwest 95th street on little river drive at northwest 27th avenue. then six minutes later someone robbed just a few streets over, northwest 134th street at northwest 27th avenue. the next robbery 30 minutes after that, a chevron gas station on 103rd street. fast forward just a couple of hours and police say two more people robbed, this time it was people waiting at two different bus stops just two blocks from one another.

cases gave police similar descriptions of the crooks and vehicles they were driving. the first four crimes, the shootings and robberies of people walking along the street and that gas station, detectives say they have found that ford-250 and that it was stolen. how far, they are still searching for a silve nissan rogue used in the two robberies at those bus stops later sunday night. become of those victims told police that it was two men in that s.u.v. they both said the guys were wearing black hoodies. another scary part about all of this. most of the victims were able to tell police these were two men armed with semi autonomy handguns. can you call crimestoppers, remain nopes, 305-471-tips. a man who was actually shot and killed. his family says he was

his wallet robbed and then he was shot and later died. we're going to talk much more about that case which hasn't been mentiod by miami-dade detectives but miami gardens still looking into all of that. we'll talk about that at 6:30. for now we're live in miami-dade, erica rakow, local 10 news. police arrested two people involved in a spree of car burglaries throughout miami-dade. police say they spotted tavares goldman and he quickly took off. a broward county bailiff facing chahaes this morning after allegedly stabbing a prostitute. kept rick busby is accused of allegedly stabbing a prostitute he met at a gas station. she was able tget away and drive herself to the hospital. buzby is facing serious charges including attempted second degree murder.

the president and his team, they are done with the vetting process for federal candidates. now the p psident has to learn the final decision of which candidada he wants to nominate. sources say the short list inn includes judge merrick garland. unanimously agreed to accept a u.s. justice overhaul of its police force and its courts. the doj voted to change the terms of negotiators. last year the doj said the investigation found a pattern of discrimination against african-americans in ferguson. the national spotlight began after the shooting death of michael brown back in 2014. many are wondering why the wife of a man who allegedly killed six people in kalamazoo, michigan never called police. a family attorney said he gave his wife carol, a loaded gun,

we should be seeing temperatures in the low 60s right now. the big concern again today just like yesterday is the heat and humidity. feels-like temperatures will be much warmer out there. once you pick them up today, you will see major areas dealing with mid to upper 80s but it could feel like the low 90s in parts of south florida. with that said this morning, patchy fog could be a possibility. we're starting to notice it from our tower cam. temperatures in the lower 70s, miami, ft. lauderdale. should be waking up to the mid 60s, 5, ft. lauderdale. the winds are calm, the air is moist. currently a muggy 71 degrees in pembroke pines. 72 hialeah. we are rain-free and should stay that way until the weekend. i'll have those details coming up. constance, how are the roads? >> okay at this point. okay at 6:00 in the morning. if you're travelingng northbound in the approach to i-75 we have reports of a broken down car. this big sign kind of blockikg the traffic.
