>> ♪ >> tonight there is a new governor-elect in the commonwealth of pennsylvania. the democrat tom wolf has been elected defeating the incumbent governor, republican tom corbett. it's the first time in the commonwealth's history an incumbent governor has lost a reelection bid. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. the latest numbers for all the midterm races are scrolling right now at the bottom of your screen. >> governor corbett is speaking to his supporters out in pittsburgh right now. he made his final pitch to voters throughout this campaign but it simply was not enough. >> that's right. governor corbett is speaking right now. let's listen in. [laughter] >> i look forward to seeing and continuing to work on a stronger pennsylvania, stronger for our children like chloe, like our grandsons, liam ali theodore and your grandsons and your grandchildren.

stronger for the generation to come that they want to stay here in pennsylvania, that they want to move here to pennsylvania and i feel confident when the history books are written 10, 15, 20 years from now, they will look at this administration, jim cawley and i, as ones who made a huge difference in the future of pennsylvania bringing back industry to pennsylvania, bringing back jobs to pennsylvania, bringing back the transportation infrastructure to pennsylvania and maki it the leader in energy, not just in the united states but in the entire world. tom wolf is the man pennsylvaniaians have selected. >> he easily defeated tom corbett making him the first governor to seeknd not get reelection. let's go to todd quinones in work where tom wolf is celebrating. todd. >> reporter: yeah, the crowd here earlier this evening was in full on celebration mode when news broke that governor-elect tom wolf was going to win this evening. take a look over my shoulder here. right now the crowd here of governor-elect tom wolf supporters are actually watching tom corbett give his concession speech. there was a huge round of applause this evening when governor tom corbett said that he called personally tom wolf to congratulate him, that he conceded the election and that he wanted to wish him the best. of course as mentioned, governor-elect tom wolf now becomes the first candidate to beat a pennsylvania governor that is seekly reelection. we expect to see governor-elect tom wolf here any moment inside the arena.

we're told he should arrive in his trademark jeep, that jeep we saw in so many advertisements throughout the summer and the election campaign. you can see they just dimmed the lights here so we're expecting governor-elect tom wolf to take the stage here at any moment. and when he does, we will of course bring his remarks live to you, but for now, reporting live in york, pennsylvania, todd quinones for "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the cw philly. >> okay, todd, thanks very much. we're going to stick with you and get back out there just as soon as we see the governor-elect. first we do want to show you the numbers as they stand right now. 65 percent of precincts reporting at this hour and there it is, really not a competitive race at all, tom wolf with 57 percent of the vote to tom corbett's 43 percent. the polls really for some time had been showing tom wolf with a significant margin. tom corbett just really having a hard time over these past four years during a time when yes budgets were on time but

they involved a lost cutting to services, especially to schools and education around the commonwealth. he really suffered with that. his popularity never really managed to take polite after his election four years ago and it's led to this a devastating defeat for tom corbett tonight. >> we'll check back in as soon as tom wolf takes the stage. >> along this night election results continue to come in. we'll continue our coverage that of in just a moment. >> don't forget you can see those numbers at the bottom of your screen. and there are braking new details in the frightening abduction of a woman off a philadelphia street. we have brand new video tonight of a person of interest inside a gas station convenience store in aberdeen, maryland. that is near where carlesha gaither's atm card was used at a bank. diana rocco has more on these late breaking details. >> reporter: jessica, that person of interest investigators say may know the

whereabouts of carlesha gaither spent quite a bit of time in this area this morning, first using her atm card at this bank and then walking into a gas station. it was video from that gas station that has given investigators their best look yet. tonight they are hoping that someone recognizes him. this is the best look yet at a man believed to know the whereabouts of carlesha gaither. video taken from an aberdeen maryland gas station close to where police believe surveillance photos show the same man using carlesha's atm card tuesday morning. the card was used at this pnc bank at 6:01. tuesday afternoon investigators showed up looking for clues more than a day after the 22-year-old was taken while walking home. >> we're working with maryland state police and the fbi. our officers are conducting an investigation. >> reporter: the man in the pictures is wearing dark colored clothing and fits the same description as the man seen kidnapping carlesha from a germantown street sunday. >> we just want carlesha

returned to us safely. we love her. >> reporter: carlesha lived in maryland with her grandmother until she was 19 when she moved back to philadelphia to be with her family. her grandmother says she had met some questionable men while living in california, maryland, about two hours south of aberdeen. one of those men stood out to her. >> he did come to my house. he wanted to take carlesha on his own and i disapproved of that. >> reporter: the fbi has asked carlesha's grand any other review the photos. they're searching traffic cams along the i-95 corridor from philadelphia to maryland. >> that's our diana rocco reporting tonight for us from aberdeen maryland. >> we want to go down to york where the governor-elect tom wolf is taking the stage. >> to the voters of pennsylvania for giving me this chance to serve as governor of pennsylvania and i recognize while i'm grateful for what they have -- the great honor they've done me by giving me so many votes i also recognize the responsibility

that has been placed on my shoulder, on my shoulders to do great things for pennsylvania. i know that there is a heavy responsibility on me. this is not just about the honor of getting votes, it's about the necessity for doing things for pennsylvania. right. [cheers and applause] so, i thank the voters of pennsylvania for giving me this responsibility. i also want to say thank you to the people who have made this campan a success that it is. everybody here, people who have supported me on the campaign, my campaign staff, they're too numerous to mention but really have done a phenomenal job of making this campaign about issues and about making pennsylvania a much better place. i want to run as governor -- i have run as governor because i want to make my state better. i think my campaign staff has done a phenomenal job of doing that and i just want to give them a round of applause.

[cheers and applause] and finally, i'm not mentioning any names but one, and that is my wife, frances. [cheers and applause] she is the love of my life and my best friend. and we are about to embark on a new leg of what lab a long journey. we've been married for 39 years. [cheers and applause] and there is no one in the world i would rather enter this new leg in this new journey with but frances wolf. so, frances, thank you very much. [cheers and applause] and of course, our two daughters, sara and katie, thank you. [cheers and applause] so, let's talk about this campaign. i have talked about four things. i've talked about education. we need to reestablish

education as a priority in pennsylvania. this nation was founded -- this nation was founded on the idea of a broad based citizenship and very early on in the republican -- the history of the republic, our ancestors realized that education was the key to a strong citizenship, to a strong democracy, to a strong economy, to strong families. we needed to invest in that. we need to make sure that we resurrect that idea here in pennsylvania and make sure that education is at the top of the list, not the bottom. >> clears cheers. and i understand we -- there is -- you can't -- there are different ideas as to how we deliver on the promise of a good education, but we have to invest in it. we have to work together to make sure that we deliver on that promise and we've got to make it a priority. we've also got to make sure that we fund our education system fairly. [cheers and applause] and we got to make sure that we raise the money that we use to fund our education

system, that we raise it fairly, that we're not burdening, say, property taxpayers. we have got to do a better job. that's the first thing. the seconds thing, we've got to make sure we are creating good jobs here in pennsylvania. we need to invest strategically in the things that pennsylvania -- that will make pennsylvania's economy grow. we want to be a magnet for entrepreneurs. we want to be a dynamo of economic development and to do that we have got to strategically invest in pennsylvania. i pledge to do that. that is what this campaign is about and i think that's going to be part of our future. third, we have natural resources here. we have toake advantage of those natural resources responsibly but we've got to take advantage of them. we have -- everyone is talking about gas but we also have coal. we have to make sure that coal is relevant in this new age that we're entering into. we need to make sure that we have -- that we take advantage of our fresh water resources, our timber, our open space we need to make sure that we take advantage of all those things.

we have them here in pennsylvania and we can do that. we have a bright economic future if we just simply take advantage of what we have and finally we have to make sure we have a level playing field. this campaign has to be about resurrecting and restoring pep's promise of an inclusive, open and level playing field for everybody. [cheers and applause] pennsylvania simply cannot be open for just a few favored cronies. we have to be open for business for everybody. this has to be a place to attract everybody with a good idea, everybody who is willing to work hard, everybody who is willing to take a risk. pennsylvania has to be top of mind. those are the things we've got to do. now, to do that, we're going have to take some risks. we have got to look forward to a future with optimism and one of the easiest things to do when we talk about change is to inspire fear. and we have got to move away from that fear of the future because if we don't, we're going to continue to be

consigned to a dead end. so, let's say that if we are going to transform pennsylvania, we've got to get the -- go beyond the fear, we have got to get to the point where we actually think we can achieve things and let's make this pennsylvania of ours the great place we know it can be. now, there's one final thing. pennsylvania is the perfect place to do this. i know there are a lot of modest people here. pennsylvanians are modest by nature and we sort of like to look at ourselves and say, yeah, we can't do a whole lot, we're just from pennsylvania. well, let me just give you a little history lesson on pennsylvania. pennsylvania was founded by william penn on some of the most noble ideas at the time, freedom of conscience. it was an inclusive place that welcomed a lot of people to pennsylvania and because it was inclusive and opened and free, because it was that kind of a place, we had a strong economy. we had a strong society. pennsylvania is where this nation was founded.

the declaration of independence, pennsylvania. our two constitutions, pennsylvania. the articles of the confederation which of course were drafted in york, pennsylvania. [cheers and applause] just saying. and the 1787 constitution drafted in philadelphia. those principles of the founders were reaffirmed in blood at the battle of gettysburg in pennsylvania. we have two world class cities. we have great universities, we have a location that is the envy of the world smack dab in the middle of the richest market in the world. we have open space. we are one of the largest economies in the world. we have so much. we have some of the greatest people in the world, the greatest workforce in the world. this is a place that deserves to have a great future. we need to expect a lot of ourselves, and if we do, if we do, we can do great things here. so, here's my message. let's make this the time. let's make this the place,

pennsylvania. let's us be the people to actually create this bright future we deserve. let's make this the time. let's get started. thank you very much. [cheers and applause] >> well, there is the 47th governor-elect of the commonwealth of pennsylvania, a very forward looking optimistic speech tonight by tom wolf as he prepares to become the next governor, a son of york, surroded by people there in york pa obviously having a great time. >> clearly proud to be from york tonight surrounded by all of those people tonight. >> new jersey voters also casting their ballots tonight and they have sent united states senator cory booker back to washington for his first full term. >> the incumbent democrat was a heavy favorite against republican challenger jeff bell. last year you'll remember booker won a special election to fill the seat vacated by the death of u.s. senator frank lautenberg. let's take a look at the numbers right now. you'll see cory booker is going to go on now to a full

six year term with 54 percent of the vote over the former reagan speech writer jeff bell who came in with 41 percent of the vote. delaware's incumbent democratic senator chris coons also winning another term, he defeated kevin wade. he took office when he defeated christine o'donnell in 2010. that was a special election for the seat formerly held by vice president joe biden. >> coons with 56 percent of the vote tonight, kevin wade at 42 percent. we're keeping an eye on pennsylvania's eighth district. it is of course home to one of the state's most highly anticipated races. >> a lot of eyes on this one. third term republican mike fitzpatrick facing off kevin strauss. matt rivers is live at fitzpatrick headquarters in doylestown bucks county. matt what is it like there right now. >> reporter: chris and jessica mike fitzpatrick supporters very happy as their candidate is holding a pretty substantial lead at this point over democrat kevin strauss looking at the numbers as they

look, right now fitzpatrick is leading with 50,142 votes, to strauss' 27,598. of course not all districts are reporting yet but you can see here very happy people up in bucks county, we're in doylestown. this race has been a close one featuring the incumbent fitzpatrick elected to office three different times by this community versus kevin strauss who has little if any political experience. they think strouse is relatively unknown voters around here and that hurt his campaign. >> i felt that the gentleman running against him did not have as much experience as some of the others had. he just really moved into the county and that's a drawback. mike really came into his own and has been doing great stuff in washington. >> reporter: and an official with the fitzpatrick campaign just told me that they do expect the candidate to come

out and address supporters here. we are expecting him to claim victory in this race but again, not all districts have been counted so far. for now, we're live in doylestown, matt rivers, "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the can cw philly. >> all right, matt, thanks so much. we'll take a look at more numbers going delaware and the house district there, this would be john kearny jr. versus rose izo. joan kearny junior with 59 pearls of the vote, izzo37 percent. rose izzo describing herself as an average citizen. the delaware attorney general race, matthew denn53 percent of the vote and ted kittilla with 39 percent. the delaware state treasurer race ken sempler winning that with 54 percent of the vote to sean barney's 44 percent. we'll waiting to find out if the gop will take control of the u.s. senate. a lot of mement tonight.

>> they have won some significant victories most notable so far mitch mcconnell in kentucky the man who has been the minority leader in the senate for sometime easily defeating allison lunted again grimes tonight. he's expected to become the majority leader. another winner on the republican side tonight shelley moore capito of west virginia, the first woman to be elected as a senator from virginia. much more election coverage straight ahead here on "eyewitness news" >> and changing gears to weather, we are looking at clouds moving into the delaware valley. our weather watchers are saying on this election night we're looking at temperatures that are cool and conditions that are calm. we'll start off in south jersey where the temperature is 52 degrees. alex says in mays landing there's not much wind but the pressure is falling. falling barometer temperatures nearly steady and we're looking at calming conditions

of low pressure. still mild, in the 60's but rain, some wind and then some dreary conditions behind it especially on friday when we cool it down with breezy conditions and temperatures only in the 50's. along the great lakes that white and pink, we'll be seeing some lasket snow. nothing around here, though. here's a look at what we expect for thursday. periods of rain between a half an inch and a inch of rain expected. winds gusting to about 30 miles an hour especially in the afternoon and at night. a wet commute in the morning, a wet commute in the evening. just not a great day to be outdoors and after that, we cool it back down. skies will be mostly cloudy during the overnight, the low mperature around 50 degrees with a southwesterly breeze. temperatures bumping up fairly quickly, even with the cloud cover for wednesday. the high 67 with west winds about five to 10 miles an hour. and on the exclusive eyewitness weather seven-day forecast, thursday look for periods of rain, the temperature 64 degrees. friday breezy with some sun, 53. saturday 51 degrees and then,
