little after 6:30 here when the car of police commissioner charles ramsey suddenly swung into the parking lot here. he got out, began shaking hands with detectives. moments later family members of the victim arriving some with tears in their he's, arms around each other. scene was set for a happy and remarkable reunion. she was safe. carlesha after nearly 72 hours and the man accused of kidnapping her and taking her on a terrible ordeal was now in custody. >> brought my baby home. >> thank you. >> brought her right home. (applause). >> reporter: the mother of carlesha gaither hugged detective jim sloane. he had promised i'm bringing your daughter home. and now kidnapped victim carlesha was safe, her mom speaking to her just moments before. >> the first thing i told her was i love and was she okay, i'm coming to get her. >> reporter: amid hugs and tears, the family learned from investigator that is a car with carlesha and suspect

delvin barns inside had been stopped in jessup, maryland. barnes, allegedly the suspect who dragged carlesha for a block throwing her into a car in germantown on sunday night. >> so it's very important this has a happy ending. we all need to celebrate. >> i believe that all our prayers were ansaid. police say barnes apparently attacked carlesha at random. the car he allegedly used to kidnap her sunday night the same one in which they were found in maryland. >> when the subject exited the vehicle he was apprehended. that's when miss freeland was recovered. >> reporter: the family with many questions about carlesha 's kidnapping ordeal unanswered set off for a reunion at the hospital where she's being examined for minor injuries but not before along with police, they expressed their thoughts about the suspect. >> he's a vicious predator, he's off the streets and

hopefully he'll be in jail for the rest of his life. that's the only thing he deserves. >> i hope he rot in hell. >> reporter: now, among the unanswered questions and it's a chilling unanswered question, is just where barnes was allegedly heading with his intended victim at the time they were interrupted and the arrest was made. at the time of the arrest, barnes was wanted in virginia for sexually assaulting and setting a woman on fire. we'll have much more on this developing story as it goes through the evening. for now, live from the northwest detectives division, i'm walt hunter, "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> walt, thanks so much. as walt mentioned the suspect does have a criminal past be tonight we're digging deeper into that past. delvin barns was arrested in november of 2005 in philadelphia on aggravated assault and false imprisonment charges. he's currently being held on a warrant from charms city county virginia on attempted capital murder and malicious injury charges. we will have more on barnes

criminal hoer. >> investigators made clear the key to cracking this case was surveillance video, the first and most horrifying showed the actual abduction on sunday night in germantown. then the next morning, this man was caught on camera at an atn aberdeen, maryland. he was using carlesha's bank card. then later even more surveillance video, this one from a gas station and convenience store showing that person of interest, this footage also coming from aberdeen, maryland, and then just today, we saw this, footage from a grocery store along the roosevelt boulevard in philadelphia, this was shot just eight hours before the attack and near the scene of the crime. it was these clips that allowed police to identify their suspect and eventually track down his car with carlesha inside. >> all right, so, you see the time line there and police actually said this afternoon how important getting that

information to the public was, that they really think all of those videos, all of those photos, that they were able to accumulate over the several days that she had been abducted that those really did help them to find that suspect who they found this evening in maryland, in jessup maryland is where they found him and in the car with him carlesha gaither. we have diana rocco in maryland this afternoon where freeland gaither is being treated in the hospital. we're told she's in good condition. they are checking her out for minor injuries. you saw at the beginning of the broadcast that her family is now being transported down south so maryland to be able to be reunited with her. her mother had spoken to her earlier today but was only able to talk to her. you can imagine they're very anxious to see her in person but she said she was crying but said she was all right. so hopefully those are just minor injuries they'll be able to check out. let's go to diana rocco who is in maryland with more from there. diana. >> reporter: and jessica, as you mentioned, we are awaiting

the arrival of carlesha's family. she was found not too far from here late this afternoon in jessup, maryland. she is now here at the howard county general hospital in colombia maryland. we have heard from hospital officials that ceaseness good condition here and talking to detectives. "eyewitness news" has obtained exclusive video of her family getting into a car in philadelphia on their way here to reunite with carlesha. they got in that car just before 9 o'clock tonight and they are of course elated after an emotional taxing three days for this family. authorities say as soon as they approached the car that carlesha was in this afternoon, she identified herself as the missing girl from pennsylvania and a few moments later she was able to talk to her mother on the phone. >> she was very upset. she was crying and she just was asking for me, telling me love me, she miss me, come get her. >> reporter: again, carlesha is said to be in good

the rain is moving up from the south and west. you can see along that i-95 corridor, through wilmington, baltimore and washington some darker green and that is light rain as i mentioned some sprinkles right now in philadelphia. 59 in philadelphia north and west, some lower 50's, some 40's. that cooler air is hanging out through state college and the western part of the keystone state and that will be moving through overnight tonight. so, for the morning commute we're expecting a slow go. periods of rain, some ponding on area roads, maybe even a rumble of thunder. temperatures crawling into the 50's. coming up we'll talk about the blast of cold that will settle across the region and doesn't look like it's going to budge. more thon with the seven-day when i join you inside. >> new tonight, burglars are again on the prowl in burlington county town. they're targeting homes in moorestown despite increased police patrols there. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers has new information tonight. >> reporter: two homes, 1 mile apart, both broken into in moorestown within the last

week. >> don't really think stuff like that is going on but it always is a little more than you know about. it's a little nerve wracking. >> reporter: the crimes happened at night, the first on the 600 block of south saratoga, the second on the 200 block of country club. >> large upscale residences, end industry being made by different means of force. >> reporter: but the crooks got away with similar items things easy to sell like watches and jewelry. if this sounds familiar, it is. back in august there was another string of burglaries in moorestown that remains unsolved. >> they do appear to be related. we're also seeing similar burglaries in our neighboring towns. >> reporter: just today up the block behind me here on paul street another home was broken into, only this time there was a woman inside. the burglar ran when he saw her shoving her out of the way. she was okay but that raise the police concern. >> this takes it to a different level. >> reporter: the paul street burglary joins three others recently that happened during the day. police believe these are separate crimes unrelated to

each other or burglaries from the summer but as a result moorestown police have altered its officers' patrol routes and a town hall meeting will be scheduled soon. >> and i would go. that i feel that that's something that's worth my time to get involved. >> reporter: that's what police are hoping for as they try and stop these crimes. matt rivers, "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> well, the long time football coach of haverford high school in delaware county will not be on the sidelines with his team friday night. prosecutors have charged joe gallagher with dui, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. he has been the head football coach at haverford high school for 23 years now. police allege that gallagher was involved in a hit and run at lincoln and fourth avenues in prospect park on saturday. haverford high school officials released a statement that read in part "joe gallagher has taken a leave of absence for personal reasons".

well, the former nfl running back ray rice was back in court today fighting to reverse his indefinite league suspension. rice was in new york today, the beginning of a two day hearing to determine what the nfl knew about the elevator incident in which rice punched his now wife jen nay. the nfl commissioner roger goodell says the release of that second video from inside the elevator was new information and led him to impose a harsher punishment on rice than initially handled down. former baltimore ravens cheerleader is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15 year old boy. it allegedly happened at a vacation home in sussex county, delaware. this is 47 year old molly shattuck. she turned herself in to police today. she's been charged with rape and unlawful sexual contact with a minor. investigators say on labor day weekend she and that teen vacationed and partied together in bethany beach.

member of the "eyewitness news" family. >> philadelphia row home magazine presented its 2014 blue sapphire awards at v in spring garden and "eyewitness news" anchor ukee washington was among the recipients tonight. ukee recognized for his dedication to our community. he is featured on the cover of the latest edition of row home magazine. congratulations to our good friend, ukee. >> across the delaware valley everybody is waiting for the rainily our eyewitness weather watchers are saying temperatures are cooling down very fast and they can feel it. the rain is on the way. the relative humidity is rising. in lance had dale the temperature is 46 jeff says with very light wind. 54 degrees right now in avondale. no wind, relative humidity up to 54 percent but still dry and right now it is 52 degrees in vincentown with a relative humidity of 72 percent. skies have been overcast all evening and doug says waiting for the rain.

if you would like to be an eyewitness weather watcher, you can do it very easily. you can sign up now at cbsphilly.com/watcher. outside we are seeing some raindrops, 19 center city philadelphia. down the shore, a few sprinkles in atlantic city and ocean city but just mostly cloudy for the most part. looking live right now in atlantic city where it is a mostly cloudy, cool evening, temperatures still in the 50's. on storm scan3 you can see the rain lifting up with a frontal boundary. baltimore and washington seeing some steadier rain just moving along the i-95 corridor and it will intensify during the overnight hours. you can see where the cooler is to the north and west of the city, allentown only 49, the poconos 46, lancaster sitting at 49 degrees. to the south and east seeing some milder temperatures in the 50's. we will watch as the cooler air continues to move toward the delaware valley overnight tonight in the 40's and over the next couple of days. so, we have this area of low pressure riding along the

front and that's what will intensify the rain during the morning hours. a slow morning commute. i think the heaviest rain will come during the morning. temperatures only in the 50's. then once this area of low pressure moves toward new england, we see the wind, little bit drier on friday with a mix of clouds and sun, but those northwesterly winds will make it feel a little bit cooler. temperatures in the 50's but feeling more like the 40's. saturday sun returns, a cool high in the 50's again and then we stay fairly cool and below normal in temperature for the foreseeable future. future weather shows during the overnight we'll see the rain really get going for the morning, seeing at least a moderate rainfall. a few rumbles of thunder possible during the day and then by the evening the rain moves out. a few spotty showers will linger but then the real cool air begins to build in. so, here's a look at what we expect. we will be seeing periods of rain, about a half an inch to an inch over the course of the day, the heaviest in the morning but still wet for the evening commute as well.

some spotty showers will continue into the nighttime hours. so, overnight the rain will cover the region, a low temperature 49. during the day on thursday, just a slow go. if you're going to be out and about, the high temperature 59 degrees. and on the exclusive eyewitness weather seven-day forecast, friday will be drier but it will be windier, a temp of 54. saturday 50. that's 10 degrees below normal today we were 12 degrees above normal. sunday a high of 55. monday cool in the afternoon and for the birds in the evening it will be chilly, the afternoon high 56 degrees and then cooler still for the latter part of next week. be sure to wake up with "eyewitness news" in the morning. katie will track any changes with this latest storm. the team starts at 4:30 on our sister station cbs3 and then continues right here on the cw beginning at 7:00. >> all right. well, a nice fall week i suppose. >> yes. >> pretty out there. all right, kathy, thanks. >> beasley is here. exciting night down in south philadelphia. >> yeah, sixers looking for their first wip of the season.

a close score through most of the game. sixers defense playing tight d in the second quarter. nerlens noel came up with the ball and set up the nice behind the back pass. few minutes later sixers back on the attack, this time it's the alley-oop to streaking kj mckanell. he slams it home. to the third quarter now, some concern over noel. he went down awkwardly. we know he's coming back from a leg injury. would have to leave because of a ankle sprain. game tied at 89-89. tobias harris with the chance and he drains the buzzer beater. miami won the game 91 to 89. flyers without one of their top score percent, michael raffl out up to six weeks with a lower body injury after blocking that shot in last night's game against the oilers. and new trade rumors around the phillies.
