♪ >> developing now at 10:00 o'clock, flames engulf a police car after it's struck by a hit-and-run driver. the officer inside the car was pulled to safety. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers says the search is still on for the driver. >> reporter: the police car burned at 28th and tasker in south philly. eyewitness shot this video around 6:30 right about the time dante johnson jumped off his couch. just two houses away from the crash he described what he saw as he raced towards the flames. >> literally almost like the fourth of july. seemed like the hotter it got the more it spread. the more it was like popping and exploding. >> reporter: moments earlier this pickup truck had blown a stop sign colliding with the police cruiser. the officer was stuck inside

dazed. his door wedged shut. the engine caught fire. >> seeing the flames me and couple other people ran to the cop car, pulled the cop out immediately. got him to safety. >> reporter: meanwhile the driver of the pickup truck had fled and a passenger in that truck was taken to the hospital. both crash victims were safe, but the car continued to burn prompting police to worry about the growing crowd of bystanders. well timed instruction as the fire flared just seconds later. firefighters arrived soon after and the flames were put out. this was the aftermath. blackened metal an charred driver's seat where the officer might have been had it got not been for the action of dante few other. >> if i call i was hero what do you say? >> i wouldn't even be able to call myself a heroism i'm an innocent bystander who did the right thing. >> reporter: and the police officer and the passenger inside that pickup truck are both expected to be okay. meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck did flee the seen

of an accident and will face criminal charges if he's caught. we're live outside of police headquarters, matt rivers "eyewitness news" at 10 on the cw filly. >> matt, thank you very much. meantime the search is on for the gunman who shot a temple university student during an tempted robbery in north philadelphia. the shooting happened off campus during a party on the 1500 block of north 17th street early this morning. police say the victim was sitting on the porch when the gunman demanded his wallet. eyewitnesses say the student lunched at the would be robber and the pair struggled a bit. the gun went off and the student was shot in the leg. >> just really shock. i feel like my bike was robbed. i mean for me i think that was the worst it would ever be on this block everyone seemed friendly and it seemed calm. >> cops came and dragged him out of the house and took him off in a police car and shut down the street. >> the victim is okay. is expected to be released from the hospital very soon.

all right g saturday night everyone. certainly one of the days today where you had to break out that winter fall coat at least. temperatures were on the cold side good 10 degrees below average. these were our high temperatures today. only 50 in philadelphia and wilmington 50 at the atlantic city airport. upper 40s up in berks county and the lehigh valley. here's where we are right now. not a big drop in temperatures. some clouds over the region little bit of a southerly breeze will keep our temperatures up a little bit tonight compared to last night. we're sitting generally in the mid 40s right now al 10 town, philadelphia and wilmington 40 in trenton. suburbs, though, dipping down to the upper 30s current until mt. holly, new jersey. so, yes, still cold but not as cold as it's been the past few mornings. here's what's happening on storm scan3 actually a weak cold front that will come through tonight and notice a little bit of spotty rain shower activity trying to show up on radar basically from the poconos down through the lehigh valley into lancaster county. there could be a sprinkle or two over the next two hours or so as the front moves eastward but most areas stay dry with partly cloudy skies.

here's your morning temperatur temperatures. sunday not too bad generally low and mid 40s for philadelphia on south and east. it does get colder to the north upper 30s for reading and allentown. mid 30s in the poconos so chilly start to your sunday. afternoon little bit better than today as far as the temperatures go. look at that highs reaching the mid 50's philadelphia and at the shore cooler than average. we'll take it mixture of sunshine and clouds pretty much all through the delaware valley we'll talk about warmer temperatures for the star of the work week coming up in the seven day forecast in a few minutes. natasha? >> justin, thanks so much. see you soon. now, a long-time business goes up in flames its owner is rush to the hospital. to night investigators are trying to figure out who sparked this huge fire. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson has the latest from maple shade, burlington county. >> reporter: dark cloud over maple shade, toll flames, yeah, very tall flames. >> reporter: saturday morning it took less than two hours to dissumate a business that stood proud for more than 30 years.

>> staple of the community it's been here for a long time. the two alarm fire sent flames spewing out of this structure that housed both south jersey mowers and the home of the people who own it. >> it's a shame. it really s sad. you know, you've been here for years and hate to see something like this happen to anybody in any town. >> reporter: fire officials say it broke out around 4:00 in the 600 block of styles produc producing towering flames that would not stop until daylight broke on smoldering ruins. >> it was pretty amazing. i mean when you would sit there and think that they it under control an hour later would start to shoot right back up again. >> reporter: emergency workers say one of the owners, a woman, suffered minor smoke inhalation and throat burns. she'll spent the night at a nearby hospital in stable condition. the business is gu gutted. county fire marshal is determine how the flames started while the community stands marveling at how this decades old building ended. >> in maple shade, steve patterson, "eyewitness news" on

the cw philly. >> a judge orders the ncaa to turn over nearly 500 internal e-mails relating to the sanctions imposed on penn state over the jerry sandusky scandal. a state lawmaker and the state treasure are are now seeking the material as they prepare for a january trial. their trying to keep the fine money collected under the 2012 consent decree within pennsylvania to address child abuse. president obama now announced his nomination for u.s. attorney general at a news conference today. he introduced loretta lynch the 55 year old is currently a federal prosecutor in new york and if confirmed lynch would be the first african-american woman to hold the post as the nation's top law enforcement official. meantime, a current attorney general eric holder is praising law enforcement agencies in our region for their work in rescuing abduction victim carlesha freeland gaither. holder offer his thanks in a letter. authorities say delvin barnes snatched freeland gaither off a

germantown street last sunday nightatf found them in jessup, maryland on wednesday. now, barnes is currently behind bars in virginia, that's where he is facing attempt murder charges and another case. officials say he's currently on suicide watch. >> a very big step in diplomatic relations with north korea. the two remaining american citizens who were imprisoned in the communist country are now free and heading home. u.s. intelligence officials negotiated ken death bae and matthew miller's release from north korean prisons today. bae is a missionary from washington state arrested two years ago for alleged crimes against the state. miller is from california. he was charged with spying in april. >> wonderful day for them and their families. obviously, we're very grateful. >> bae and miller's relays came just hours before president obama begins a trip to asia. officials say nothing was given to north korea in exchange for their freedom. tuesday it is veterans day

tomorrow marks 25 years since the berlin wall came down. former soviet leader miguel gorbachev and roland due mass spoke at an event today. lanterns were placed along a nearly 10-mile stretch in the city where the wall once stood. tomorrow those lanterns will be launched at the same time the wall came down november 9th, 1989. there are several reports to night that british police disrupt add plot to assasinate queen elizabeth the second. british newspaper the sun first reported that police arrested four suspected islamic terrorists. the newspaper says the men planned a knife attack on the 88 year old queen. sources told the sun they also believe they may have had access to guns. the queen is planning a number of public appearances this weekend for remembrance sunday and marking the end of world war one. comedian andy dick is arrested for allegedly stealing a necklace. tmz says he encountered a man on the street in hollywood last

night. the man recognized him, showed him the piece of jewelry and then he allegedly took off with it on a bicycle. police saw andy dick on his bike and they arrested him right aw away. the necklace was about a thousand dollars. >> ebola took center stage at a special training exercise for the philadelphia medical reserve core. about 150 volunteers with the group attend the event at the university of the sciences campus. trainees were briefed on ebola preparedness and response in philadelphia. the medical reserve core was created in 2005 to support the philadelphia department of public health response to public health emergencies. a nurse who fought her quarantine order wants to move out of state. hick cock plans to leave maine sometime after monday the last day of the 21 day incubation period a judge from maine sided with hick cocks when she challenged the order to be isolated after she treated ebola patients in west africa. >> new mural meantime in honors

the legacy of a beloved community leader who grew up in south philadelphia. ♪ >> a member of the roots and mural arts pro bam unveiled a latest piece of public art in point breeze today. very lovely. the colorful portrait is of dr. sean white an aids and community activist who died last year. he's a childhood friend of trotter from the roots. >> i think it's going to create a different sense of awareness just in the community with regards to health particularly heart and blood pressure health maintenance. >> trotter is on the board of the mural arts program and you can see that mural at 21st and elsworth streets. now power rangers and thomas the tank engine just some of the balloons that took part in the dress rehearsal today for the 88th annual thanksgiving day parade in new york city. flight teams were out testing those balloons just ahead of

the details. as far as our weather goes overnight, pretty quiet across the delaware valley take a live look at center city. again some high clouds moving on through as that cold front will move through the region but pretty weak. let's talk about our weather headlines. here's what to expect over the next few days. we're talking about warmer temperatures actually 60-degree temperatures going to be returning in the forecast but don't get used to it because then we'll see a true shot of some arctic air returning to the seven day forecast i'll let you know when that arrives in just a two here we are. reporting stations lower to mid 40s cool spots south jersey certainly in the pinelands 37 degrees in millville. 37 in mount pocono. but there's nothing terribly cold across the mid atlantic in new england. cold front will move through behind it temperatures really not that bad we're at 43 in pittsburgh and in state college. southerly breezes ahead of the front and add the clouds in that actual l keep the temperatures up a little bit tonight. that cloud cover acts as a blanket you can see it on storm scan3. maybe a sprinkle or two up in

the poconos as the front starts to move eastward but most areas stay dry. tonight partly cloudy. front clears our region tomorrow. we're back to sun and clouds for sunday afternoon. temperatures rebounding into the mid 50s. still cooler than average. but that warmer than what we had today. overall in the a bad day to be outside. high pressure right on top us for monday into tuesday. that will keep our conditions very quite. lots of sunshine in our forecast and check out veterans day on tuesday. mid 60s for afternoon highs and then we see changes beyond that time period. here's the jet stream right now we have a pocket of cold air over us begins to lift on out for monday and tuesday. so we get that ridge in the jet allows the warmer air to move in. that's why we have a shot of reaching the mid 60s. but here's comes that blast of arctic air by the end of the week you'll feel it starting on thursday and certainly friday into the upcoming weekend. let's time things out for you not much going on with this weather pattern very quite. lots of sunshine for sunday afternoon. get outside if you can and enjoy the nice weather. monday a little bit warmer continuing with mostly sunny

skies. and then tuesday, same deal. sun and clouds with temperatures in the mid 60s. let's talk about the temperatures. cool start sunday morning. afternoon we make it into the get mid tease for most pots poconos stuck in the 40s. notice the difference though monday. we make a run at 60 degrees. which is average for this time of year. certainly each day temperatures are going to be gradually warping up. not as cold overnight for center city. partly cloudy skies. low 42 degrees. some suburbs will be dropping into the 30s. overall cool day on sunday. not as cold as today, though. sun and clouds, we're up around vick degrees for the afternoon high. northwest breeze five to 10 miles per hour. of course monday night the big game. panthers come to town. 8:30 kickoff. not bad. 50 degrees. generally mostly clear skies. light wind out of the southeast at 5 miles per hour. you'll need that heavier coat, of course, but at least the game remains dry. here's the extended forecast. a lot of sun coming in the next few days. mid 50s tomorrow. near 60 monday. 65 on tuesday. then wednesday is the transition day. we'll get a cold front moving
