>> ♪ >> good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. we are starting with breaking news at this hour. you are looking at a home there in hockessin delaware new castle county. a car plows right through the second story of that home in delaware. thank you so much for joining us. we're going to get right out now to matt rivers. he has been following the absolutely latest developments here in what's been a very jarring night for family that was inside that house at the time. matt. >> reporter: natasha, very dramatic scene as you mentioned tonight here in new castle county. those tracks were made by the car involved in this crash. you can see it right there. that car not 20 minutes ago was lodged in a second story bedroom of that home. so, it might surprise you to learn then that the driver of

that car walked away from this crash and is in stable condition tonight at a nearby hospital. the car went fast enough that when it hit this parked truck, it went airborne flying into the second story of this hockessin delaware home. >> total shock. i mean, this is not something you see every day but we at first thought perhaps the tree had fallen. >> reporter: that home looks to linda brizendine. she was at home when it happened. they were on the other side of the house when the sedan burst through her wall apparently not an easy thing to. >> it was a nice strong structure. this is not a modern construction. >> reporter: up it street you can see where it first went wrong. the car laid down tracks as it went off the road headed straight towards the home the resulting crash echoed across the quiet neighborhood. john anderson's wife heard it. >> she thought we had had a thunderstorm when she heard the crash. >> reporter: the 27-year-old driver was taken to the

hospital and will likely be okay. police haven't said what caused the crash yet but neighbors say people regularly ignore the speed limit. >> it's 35 miles an hour and they're running through around 50, 55. >> reporter: whether speed played a role will be decided later. sunday night linda's house had to be cut opened, the hole made wider to drag out the car inside but as bad as it looks linda says it could have been far worse. >> lucky. lucky, yes, overwhelmed. this is not how i planned to start my week. >> reporter: and once again, no word yet on what caused this crash. meanwhile a-structural engineer is on scene here to determine when the family can safely go back inside their home. that said, whenever they are allowed back inside they certainly face a lengthy cleanup process ahead of them. we're in hockessin delaware, matt rivers, "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the cw philly glad no one was seriously hurt. also following breaking news as well on a plane crash

in the bahamas killing all nine people on board. the leer 36 executive jet left nassau and was trying to land at grand what ham ma international airport. it happened about 5:00 p.m. local time. now, the cause is still unknown there's no word yet on the identities of all of those on board. "eyewitness news" on the scene of a bad crash in mount laurel, burlington county earlier today. we're told that one person was thrown from the car and then became pinned under into this it after it stopped rolling. rescuers worked quickly to try to pull that victim from the wreckage. the victim was eventually flown to the hospital. still no word on their condition. >> all right a-good sunday night everyone, hope you enjoyed a nice day today. if you were outside temperatures very pleasant pretty much where they should be for this time of year. if you liked today you'll like the next few days as we're talking about warmer temperatures. we were in the upper 50's average for this time of year. cool spot in the poconos coming in at 48 degrees this

afternoon. getting a little bit cold right now because of the clear skies over the delaware valley. philadelphia still hanging onto 46 degrees currently at the airport, 30's showing up in the suburbs. check out allentown this hour coming in at 35 degrees and just north of the philadelphia look at quakertown this hour, 32 degrees with the clear skies, calm winds, still low 40's both in willow grove and in northeast philadelphia. but again, calm winds will allow for a cold start for your monday morning. check out storm scan3. very quiet. we have some high thin clouds now moving east of new jersey so we're stuck in the area with nice clear skies and again, you're going to lose all the heat you had today from the sunshine back into the atmosphere so it will be chilly early on monday morning so dress warm tomorrow morning. many areas are going to be down well into the 30's. looks like center city should stay in the low 40's by the time you wake up but we rebound nicely into the afternoon. warmer air mass building in. check it out. philadelphia a lot of sunshine for your monday, 61 degrees for the high. upper 50's at the shore. lower 50's in the poconos. now, coming up in the

seven-day forecast we'll talk about how long the quiet weather pattern lasts and a shot of some arctic air for the end of the week. that's coming up in the seven-day forecast. natasha. >> thank you so much. it was a very horrific crime that shocked an entire community. two boys fall victim to abuse and one of those little boys scotty mcmillan did not survive but tonight we see an outpouring of support by complete strangers who say they felt the need to do something. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson has more. >> reporter: looking for a way to heel. >> it really has torn the community up. >> reporter: if you live in chester county at the very least you've probably heard the story of scotty and ryan mcmillan. for some here it's paralyzing. >> the whole story has been like heart wrenching the last couple days i think for the whole community. >> reporter: prosecutors say the boys were victims in a series of horrifying beatings and torture sessions at the hands of their own mother and her boyfriend. three-year-old scotty died. six-year-old ryan is staying

with an aunt. >> my husband and i have just been thinking about we wish we could do something, so when we heard about this, you know, we jumped on the opportunity. >> reporter: opportunity came sunday in the form of a flatbed truck. >> i immediately started to tear up. i was like we need to do something. >> reporter: organizer janice baker a self described motorcycle mom with the infamous riders of chester county got her boys off the road and in a police station parking lot collecting donations for ryan. >> they got together with me and helped post everything online and really just brought a lost people here day. baker estimates they've collected close to $2,000 in cash. as for the flatbed, it's filled. necessities will go to the family immediately, toys will be held so ryan can have yes us mass. >> as a community we love him and we're so sorry of what he witnessed and what he had to go through. >> reporter: it may be small against the grief ryan and his family now face but donors say janice is given a chance at hope and for this community a

way to heel. >> it's amazing. it's the best feelinger. best way you could spend zinn. it's perfect. >> reporter: the mother jillian tait and her boyfriend gary fellenbaum both face charges of first degree murder. there's a preliminary hearing scheduled for friday. reporting from chester county, i'm steve patterson, "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> also in chester county police say a family dispute ended with gunfire. it happened late last night in paoli. police found the victim at a house on summit avenue. he told officers that he was shot by a family member, john richard berry. they eventually tracked down berry to a house right down the street and one neighbor that we spoke to say they saw the whole thing from their window. >> that was the first time i heard the pow, pow, pow. i saw a gentleman walking up the street in the process of this shooting incident and i thought that was kind of weird, so i got back on the phone and i called 911 again because i saw the gentleman

standing on the porch and that freaked me out. >> well, as officers approached berry, he turned the gun on himself. he and the victim were rushed to paoli hospital. meantime no charges are expected to be filed in this fiery crash here in south philadelphia. a police cruiser collided with a pickup truck last night at 28th and tasker and it burst into flames. an eyewitness pulled the 17th district officer from that police car moments before that fire. investigators now say there was only one person in the other vehicle. the driver. now both the officer and the other driver are recovering tonight. and thousands, they lace up their sneakers to raise money for the alex's lemonade stand foundation syma chowdhury tells us how each step is really helping in the fight against pediatric cancer. >> reporter: a beautiful day for a run for a beautiful cause. the sixth annual lemon run benefiting alex's lemonade stand kicked off sunday

morning in fairmount park. >> great family event. we have a kids dash for younger kids where they do an all out race a hundred yards and then a lot of families run and walk together. >> reporter: liz scott is the co-executive director of the organization better known as alex's mom. alex was diagnosed with cancer before her first birthday. she died at the age of eight in 2004 leaving behind a legacy. >> alex started this organization basicly in our front yard at the lemonade stand and all she wantd to do was make a difference for kids with cancer. >> what we've learned from this is that there's a great support system and they're here for us and it's made a big difference. >> reporter: this family lost their eldest son to a rare form of brain cancer. they participate in events like the lemon run to raise awareness and funds. >> you kind of do it for all the can kids who can't do it because i'm fortunate enough that i can and it's easy to take that kind of thing for granted. >> reporter: karen fitzgerald at the mother of a cancer survivor and says it's important to pay it forward.

the cold war. earlier today a large crowd held a moment of silence for the 138 people who died along that wall. meantime back here at home the german society of pennsylvania marked the anniversary. they unveiled an original piece of the berlin wall in their garden on spring garden street in philadelphia. it is one of the last available pieces the german government recently gave them as part of the german society's 250th anniversary. and if your dog runs away it's probably the last place you would look. on a rooftop, right? well, strange enough that is where one pooch was found in a ohio after she went missing for several days. her owner thinks she got up there through a small hole in the roof. she was eventually rescued by firefighters. once back on the ground the hungry pooch was treated to a dish full of french fries. isn't that something. a big weekend meantime at the box office, only the fourth time in history that a pair of films opened by earning $50 million or more.

>> hello. i am baymax your personal healthcare companion. >> the winner big hero six disney's new animated adventure that features a fun inflatable robot. big hero six hauled in more than $56 million to land in first place. interstellar took off in second place with 50 million, gone girl was third followed by ouija and saint vincent. >> this meteor was caught on tape by police officer's dashboard camera last night as it was streakily over central texas. nasa says the meteor was traveling at 55,000 miles an hour. just monday a meteor was spotted over parts of the east coast including pennsylvania. a lost activity with meteors over the past couple weeks. we'll check in with our weather watchers tonight.

chilly already with the clear skies, a lot of 30's showing up on the map. we'll send you up north into the poconos where keith up in saylorsburg checks in with 33 degrees this hour so going to be below freezing there. farther south we'll head into newark, delaware, john checks in at 39 degrees. he's got clear skies. and he also cents in a picture, a pretty cool shot and photography work, look at that view looking upward on the trees. starting to see a lot of leaf drop as we're past peak as far as fall color goes. you have to watch out for wet leaves on the roads. thanks for sending in all your reports. do you love weather? you can be featured on our newscast by becoming a eyewitness weather watcher. sign up at cbsphilly.com/watchers for details. pretty quiet overnight across the delaware valley, even down towards the shore. clear skies now and looks like a good start to the work week but temperatures going to be on the warmer side. so, let's talk about the temperatures this week. they're going to be all over the place.

we're talking about that rollercoaster ride. so we're on in uphill trend now. tomorrow temperatures should be a bit above average. we should be around 58. looks like we reach the lower 60's. tuesday and wednesday will be the mild days, mid 60's on tuesday. still in the 60's wednesday and then the bottom falls out by the end of the week. we'll struggle to get to the upper 40's as we head into thursday. then we're talking about a good 10 degrees below average. mid 40's right now at the airport, 35 in allentown and millville, 42 at the atlantic city airport. we're talking about the warming trend so you don't see really any cool air moving in from the south or west so milder temperatures return to the delaware valley for the next few days. storm scan3 pretty quiet. we had some clouds over our region earlier today. they are now moving off shore. storm system stays well to the north and west over the upper midwest and that's kind of the leading edge of the cold air we'll be talking about later on during the week. for us just enjoy the sunshine for the next few days, compliments of high pressure, low 60's for the highs on monday, it looks great for the monday night football game.

with dry conditions. tuesday that's going to be the warmest day, veterans day looks like we'll top off into the mid 60's. here comes the change on wednesday. this is transition day. cold front will come through. looks like it can comes through dry at this point, maybe a few clouds. temperatures should still be warm in the low 60's but behind it we're talking about that colder air returning. you'll start to see a lot of darker blues and purples shop up on the map. here's tuesday delaware valley still pretty warm, a lot of greens and some yellows. watch what happens. cold air starts to spill south and east. this is friday. darker blues showing up over our region indicating colder air but the core of the coldest air over next few days remains well to the north and west but still we're going to be dealing with below average temperatures by the end of the week. a lot of sunshine around monday afternoon. get outside if you can and enjoy it. maybe a few clouds return for veterans day but we still keep it dry. front comes through wednesday, should be dry, just clouds. more sunshine for the afternoon and we start to talk about that drop in the temperatures. tomorrow, though, near 60 for the afternoon high in many

spots across the region, light winds, pretty comfortable day. even warmer on tuesday, mid 60's. so, the forecast for the rest of tonight, little bit chilly, 42 for center city, 30's in the suburbs with just a few high clouds possible. a mild day on monday, mostly sunny, up around 61 degrees and of course if you're heading to the game tomorrow night, 8:30 can kickoff looks good, 53 degrees. still cool but at least it's dry. here's the extend forecast. warming up tuesday, 63 wednesday, more clouds, it will be windy and the colder air returns, thursday, friday and saturday highs only in the 40's there. could even be a snow shower late thursday night and then next sunday could be some rain later on in the day. and next saturday there's a big event at the plymouth meeting mall from 12 until 3 o'clock it's our kid caster event. bring the kids outlet them do some weather. i'll show them a trick or two if they're good. >> they're all going to be good. they just want to be like you justin. we all do. >> thank you.
