is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> a wet corvette. and why this sports car ended up in the delaware river is part of a twisted tale. police say that it all began with a domestic dispute. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. this happened just before sunset near the tacony palmyra bridge. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco shows us what happened and why it could result in criminal charges. >> reporter: a 1990 red corvette is pulled from the delaware river and loaded onto awaiting flatbed. police say the latest casualty in a difficult divorce case. >> the corvette is registered to the wife. so, i guess he was angry with his wife and took her car, drove it to the delaware river. >> reporter: police say a 50-year-old husband dumped the car just below the tacony palmyra bridge monday and took off as witnesses watched the

car submerge. the police marine unit and first responders were called in after about 30 minutes divers found the car in 30 feet of water. >> there was no visibility whatsoever. the divers just had to go by feel. >> reporter: they found the vehicle. they went inside the vehicle which is extremely dangerous 'cause you can get trapped with all the debris. they were able to feel that there was no one inside. >> reporter: police say the wife has a restraining order against her husband. off camera she tells "eyewitness news" he's been driving the corvette and threatened to dump the car in the river if she didn't meet his demands. she says the stunt was pay back for not allowing him to drive the van the two own. police say it was a stunt that put police officers in danger. >> some of the charges he's facing is reckless endangerment for putting the police officers and divers in harm's way. >> reporter: divers did not find anyone inside the car. that man has now been ordered to turn himself in here at northeast detectives. a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

outside northeast detectives, i'm diana rocco for "eyewitness news" on the cw philly warning about the danger of carbon monoxide. two incidents today and in both crews arrived just in time. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones is live in south philadelphia with more on these serious scares. todd. >> reporter: and, chris, a doctor who just happened to have the day off might have saved his friend's lives. carbon monoxide levels here were so high one roommate could hardly talk. >> just out of it, lethargic and could barely move. when i came in, he was laying under the blanket. >> reporter: dr. perry cane received a text message from his friend who lives in the house. the friend and two roommates were complaining of dizziness and being short of breath and achy. they thought they had the flu. >> probably would have died, yes. >> reporter: cane said when he arrived and realized the men didn't have the flu he called 911 expecting they were exposed near fatal levels of

co. >> the three roommates were treated at hospitals. pgw crews were examining the heater as a possible source of the leak. >> just thankful, glad to be feeling normal again immonday morning pastor joseph langford collapsed in his home after calling 911, his wife and his daughter were unconscious when emergency personnel arrived. >> all i remember was opening the main door and then i passed out and then i came to again, i was able to open the screen door. >> reporter: fire officials believe a faulty heater may have caused carbon monoxide to fill the pastor's sicklerville, new jersey, home they found levels at about five times normal exposure limits none co detectors. >> if they did not have the medical emergency and were not able to call 911 when they did it could have been fatal. >> reporter: and fortunate no one involved in today's incidents has a serious injury. in the meantime, emergency personnel are urging every one to make sure they have working co detectors inside their homes.

reporting live tonight in south philadelphia, todd quinones for "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the cw philly that is so critical, todd. thank you very much. in addition to that there are carbon monoxide poisoning warning signs to look out for especially this time of year. those who are in danger could suffer dull headaches weakness dizziness nausea or confusion. if you experience these you should call for help immediately. we've also posted a link to other warning signs and resources you might need on our web site, cbsphilly.com. >> we're hearing tonight from the philadelphia police officer rescued from this burning squad car by two good samaritans. officer mark kimsey was back at the 17th district today in south philadelphia. he was in his cruiser saturday night heading to a call for help when he collided with a pickup at 27th and tasker. the cruiser burst into flames and officer kimsey was trapped inside. a teen and another man pulled him from that burning car. >> trying to get out but my legs weren't doing anything.

i want to take them out. >> very grateful tonight. officer kimsey suffered a leg injury and a concussion. he is expected to make a full recovery. >> we are also hearing from a camden county police officer whose quick thinking and training helped him deliver a baby. sergeant darrell watkins responded to their park behind a church in camden last month. there he found a woman in labor and the baby wasn't waiting. fortunately watkins is also a trained emergency medical technician. >> it was a little surreal but like i said again i was pretty much thinking and, you know, in employees mode i wanted to make you are the infant was okay. i was wanted to make sure the baby's airway was fine. the father was still holding the infant while i was trying to secure the baby's airway. >> both mother and baby were rushed to cooper university hospital and we're told they're doing just fine. >> well, 13 people were hurt tonight when a car collided

with a trolley in kingsessing. the trolley was westbound on woodland avenue. there were 11 people in the trolley and two people in a car that had to be taken to hup with minor injuries. there's no word on exactly what led to that wreck. well, now a bold broad daylight shooting in the streets of philadelphia. tonight police are looking for this man who is shown on surveillance video firing a gun. all this happened last thursday around 1 o'clock in the afternoon on west clearfield street in north philadelphia. the suspect hit a parked car and did not hit his intended target. >> the coatesville area school district completes its internal investigation after a kindergartener survived abuse that allegedly killed his little brother. investigators say three-year-old scotty mcmillan was murdered by his mother and her boyfriend in a trailer in west caln township. scotty's brother ryan had been absent from school for two weeks. the district maintains staffers were not aware of any abuse and the district

superintendent dr. kathy tashner release add statement saying whenever a child is absent staff tries to make contact with the parent to determine the reason for the absence through phone calls written communication and eventually a home visit to the residence we have on record. all of those procedures were followed. we learned the suspect in the abduction of carleesha freeland-gaither will be in a philadelphia federal courtroom wednesday. delvin barnes is being held on other charges in virginia but he will be brought here for an appearance. he was arrested in maryland last week. freeland-gaither is now back with her family in north philadelphia. >> she ran against him for governor of pennsylvania but now katie mcginty will be joining the administration of governor-elect tom wolf. mcginty will serve as the governor's chief of staff. she was pennsylvania's department of environmental protection secretary. mcginty has also spent time

in the private sector. the united states marine corps celebrated its 239th birthday today in south philadelphia a day before veterans day. this gathering has been held outside of cookie's tavern for four decades. world war ii veteran survived the battle of iwo jima. this was the first time they met. >> when you came here today did you think you would see another marine. >> never. i thought they were all dead but me . >> [laughter] >> thank god for this brutal man here. >> the 91 year old veterans took pictures and traded stories from the second world war. we would love to see your veterans day photos. you can facebook or tweet them to us, use the hashtag cbs3 and you may just see them right here on our air. >> new jersey senate president steve sweeney lays out a

evacuated long ago along with their belongings. the next closest home is about a half mile away. kilauea has been an active volcano since 1983. in florida a sinkhole opens up right in front of a home. look at that. a crater swallowed a car that was sitting in that driveway and forced homeowners and neighbors out of their homes. engineers are now on scene, they're taking a very close look at this 10-foot wide, 10-foot deep hole. thankfully no one was hurt when it opens. >> new tonight the new york doctor diagnosed with ebola is now free of the virus. craig spencer will be released from bellevue hospital tomorrow. the 33-year-old tested positive for ebola on october 23rd, 6 days after his return from west africa. spencer was hospitalized when he noticed a high temperature during daily self monitoring. a new study in the schedule pediatrics says more and more children are causing

medical emergencies because the their they're consuming laundry detergent pods. children underage six are most at risk. reports of children being injured in this way increased more than 600 percent a month since the pods debuted in 2012. poison control centers are receiving more calls regarding this situation. >> common symptoms like nausea or vomiting and then there are the more rare but more serious symptoms like comatose state or respiratory depression where they're really not breathing and they may require intubation or being put on a ventilator. >> this study calls for a bigger effort to prevent exposure such as improving product packaging. >> the human remains found in the backyard of a south jersey home are much older than originally thought. a contractor found those remains in late october while installing a swimming pool in riverton. the remains were 6 feet underground. they have been taken to the state police forensics lab and experts believe they could be

more than a century old. >> these are very fragile. you have roots growing through the bones and through the dirt that's surrounding the body. >> experts will try to piece those bones together as best they can, then try to determine the age, sex and ancestry and also possibly obtain dna. now to an amazing discovery in rush sharks the remains of a woolly mammoth produced the only intact mammoth brain known to science. these remains were discovered four years ago but researchers are just now getting a look at the brain. the animal is believed to have died 39,000 years ago. researchers say this finding allows them to learn much more about mammoth behaviors. >> wow. >> pretty cool. >> yeah. >> okay, this is pretty cool, too, as long as you're not the guy on the other side of the camera. we know that a roommate grabbed his camera when he saw his buddy in the middle of a rather unique cleaning session.

night. the waning gibbons move signaling a big wind. if you like to be a weather watcher be featured in our forecast by coming a weather watcher. go to cbsphilly.com/watchers much watchers are saying yes, we have clear skies, light winds, a pretty night, even in center city philadelphia this is the view from skycam3. we have clouds approaching from the west but not a lost cloud cover and that means dry conditions overnight and really we'll be seeing them for awhile. temperatures right now falling in philadelphia, 49. 46 in wilmington. 45 degrees in trenton. 46 in the poconos and allentown still holding onto 50 but millville checking in at 39. nothing like we're seeing out west. look at these temperatures where we have that arctic air already in place. bismarck, rapid city, cheyenne, 10, 12 degrees, i mean even as you head towards saint louis and milwaukee, temperatures in the 50's, soon to fall into the 30's overnight. as we advance this, you can

see what they'll wake up to. bismarck tomorrow morning two. rapid city one. shy nan one. this is more like a winter forecast and tomorrow afternoon their high temperatures only in the single numbers and the teens and in minneapolis only 24 degrees. so, that cold is coming our way. the good news is it's going to moderate as it moves toward the east. so, for tomorrow, we're talking about a beautiful day. the cold air behind that front, it will be in chicago tomorrow. for us we're on the east side this, still in the mild air, temperature in the up are 60's to around 70 in some spots. and then as the front gets a little closer, we'll see more mild air filter up the coastal plane. temperatures in the 60's. once the front moves through, thursday will be chilly and there are some indications of a coastal system developing a-weak system that could add some moisture to our forecast and that would mean thursday night we could see a rain or wet snow shower. that cold air will continue to push on toward the south. the core of the cold air i shoulder you off well to the west and as it moves eastward,

we'll see temperatures falling some 10 to 15 degrees in some spots possibly up to 20 degrees but at least it's not going to be as cold as the numbers we're seeing in the northern plains. overnight mainly clear, the low temperature 43. during the day tomorrow, jumping up to 68 and in some spots i think we will touch 70 degrees and on the exclusive eyewitness weather seven-day forecast, wednesday still nice. thursday's cold and once it gets chilly, thursday, which is going to be 20 degrees cooler than tomorrow, it's going to stay cold. saturday, sunday and monday high temperatures only in the 40's. saturday morning our coolest morning yet with a high in the city of only 30. but it stays relatively dry. be sure to wake up with the but it stays relatively dry. kate fehlinger will track the weather. our team starts at 4:30 on our sister station cbs3 and then continues right here on the cw philly. so, we have all these questions. is the polar vortex going to stick around? >> is it? >> is it going to be a cold snowy winter again? we've
