>> ♪ >> our eye is on the storm right now at 10 o'clock. we are gearing up for the first major snowfall of the season. and road crews are ready to take on a storm that will dump snow during one of the busiest travel days of the year. >> let's take a live look at storm scan3 right now. you see all that green to the south of us? well, it's coming our way and it will change from rain to snow for much of our area. a winter storm warning has already been issued tonight. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. we have live team three coverage with meteorologist kathy orr and our todd quinones. we'll start with kathy. >> chris and jess, you mentioned the green on the screen. there is a lot of moisture associated with this system. the big question is how much falls as rain and how much falls as snow. now, you can see where we're going to get the majority of the snow where we expect hazardous travel winter storm warning has been supposed in this area of pink in the north and western suburbs through the lehigh valley and poconos. winter weather advisory for philadelphia and adjacent suburbs and mercer county new

jersey. talking in this area a slushy coating of snow with temperatures around freezing. for the morning commute in the poconos snow, in the lehigh valley a quick rain change to snow. through philadelphia and suburbs mainly rain but on the verge of changing over to heavy wet snow and through southern delaware and coastal new jersey heavy rain is expected. now, this is a look at future weather. between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. most of the region is seeing the rain. then by about 10 o'clock, some heavy snow already through the lehigh valley and our suburbs. between 10:00 and noon becoming snow very close to philadelphia if not in the city itself. you can see there's a fine line between heavy rain and heavy snow by the noon hour and then during the afternoon a good part of the region sees the snow before the snow ends during the evening period. coming up we'll talk about an updated snow map and also show was to expect where you live. we'll go neighborhood by neighborhood. for now, jess, we'll send it back to you. >> kathy, thank you. the winter weather means a

lost preparations are under way. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones continues our team coverage tonight live at the penndot facility in norristown. todd, what's the plan there? >> reporter: well, jessica as you know the timing of this storm is a very crucial element and people are already getting prepared. the first significant snowstorm for the season but what kind of punch it will delivery mains to be seen. penndot though is urging caution. >> we're asking people to either adjust or delay their travel plans if possible. it's a very good idea, you know, look at the weather, you might want to delay your plans until the storm has passed. >> reporter: thanksgiving plans are already being changed at this acme in paoli. people bumped up their shopping day. >> tomorrow with the snow i figured i'd better get my shopping done now. >> i expected it to be more crowded. we made it at a good time. >> reporter: drivers will crowd area highways on wednesday on what is one of

the busiest travel days of the year. the good news is the rain, it's expected to arrive before the snow and thanks to the warmer weather the past two days penndot does not expect heavy accumulation on area roads. >> the road pavement is still quite warm. we don't expect to see a heavy accumulation on the road surfaces. you'll see more on the lawns. >> reporter: penndot also wants to remind everyone in the state of pennsylvania there are more than 780 car accidents that were attributed to snow. so they want to make sure everyone out there takes their time. reporting live tonight in norristown, todd quinones for "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the cw philly todd, thank you. meanwhile local transportation hubs are taking action ahead of one of the busiest travel days of the year. some airlines at philadelphia international airport are waiving fees for anyone who wants to change their flights. amtrak has also added 72 trains to its service. but officials do say most train tickets in the northeast corridor are already sold out during the busiest times of

the day. down the shore atlantic city emergency managers are preparing for whatever might come their way tomorrow. because they're expecting more rain than snow, crews there have been busy clearing out city drains. the tides will not be unusually high but there could be some minor flooding in low lying areas. and it is a snow nightmare we've seen over and over again, drivers stuck on the highways for hours in accumulating snow and tonight at 11:00 we'll have advice on what you'll need in your car before you head out for the holiday and also what you need to know if you ever get stranded on the roads. >> well, we also reached out to peco tonight. they say that they plan to have extra staffing in place throughout tomorrow and will make adjustments as as needed just in case parts of the area experience power losses due to the storm. we'll get the very latest on the storm's track and what it's going to mean for your neighborhood just as soon as you wake up. our kate fehlinger and carol erickson will team up to bring you the latest during a special early edition of "eyewitness news." it starts at 4:00 a.m.

they'll also have more on traffic conditions and any potential school delays. then live coverage throughout the day on "eyewitness news." plus, we want to see your snow pictures and your winter weather pictures as well. help us tell the story. just send them to us using the hashtag cbs3 storm. >> breaking tonight we're hearing from officer darren wilson the man at the center of the unrest in ferguson. he's speaking as protests continue nationwide over the grand jury's decision not to indict him in the shooting of michael brown. this is a live look at ferguson right now. in an interview with abc news officer wilson says he has a " clear conscience and that all i wanted to do was live." attorneys for the brown family criticized the grand jury's decision and called for peace. >> about 15 feet away so i start backpedaling because he's getting too close and he's still not stopping. he gets eight to 10 feet and he starts leaning forward like

he's going to tackle me. i looked down the bacterial of my begun and i fired. >> we object properly and as loudly as we can on behalf michael brown jr.'s family that this process is broken. >> president obama today rebuked protesters in ferguson for burning buildings, torching cars and destroying property. protests here in philadelphia have been peaceful and they continue at this late hour. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is lie at broad and arch and justin you have been following these protesters all night. >> reporter: jessica, they have been moving all over the city throughout the day. we got word that just a short time ago they moved to rittenhouse where we have chopper three over that scene right now. it's kind of dark but you will see a large gathering of people in the square area of rittenhouse. and back out here on the ground when they got word that the protest is moving here into center city police worked very quickly to secure broad street where that protest could soon return.

take a look. face to face, protesters and police outside central detectives. the station a third stop for several hundred philly ferguson demonstrators. though tempers flared police say the goal was to give demonstrators space to raise their voices and concerns. >> no one has been harmed. no private property has been damaged. so, obviously we want to give them that space and we haven't done anything to restrict their expression. >> reporter: shortly after 3:00 p.m. marchers moved from city all up broad to cecil b. moore avenue. at that corner all walks of life walking together to protest the grand jury's call to not indict ferguson police officer darren wilson in the death of unarmed teen mike brown. >> i want them to know that they're not alone, they're not alone in knowing that this is an injustice, that this is not okay and this is a countrywide issue and we're in philly, we're not in ferguson and we're still trying to stand up for what's right. >> reporter: for many youth

a time to turn emotions into action. >> we want to think long term and i think part of it has to do with being organized and getting organized and getting involved. >> reporter: and at last check police tell us the protests so far have remained peaceful. no major damage to property or arrests. barring those two arrests yesterday, those two men made their way onto i-95 and were arrested for that and arraigned tonight. protesters do tell us that they have been released. we are live in center city, i'm justin finch, "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> justin, thank you. and stay with "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage of the ferguson grand jury decision and the response to it. we have much more on our web site cbsphilly.com. >> well, a philadelphia lawyer tonight is accused in the repeated sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl. authorities say that 56 year old brian meehan assault they had girl after she was forced into a life of prostitution by two of his clients. the philadelphia d.a. seth williams announced those charges today and had some

harsh words for meehan. >> i believe there's a very special place in hell for men like brian meehan. the girl told police that she had been recruited by the couple to have sex with men for money. and they would beat her and threaten to kill her if she would try to leave them. >> this investigation dates back to march of 2012. as for the clients who allegedly facilitated those meetings, no charges have been filed against them as of yet. >> philadelphia is home to a championship football team called the eagles. >> hopefully we'll have two soon. >> that's right. >> but these guys are great. they're much smaller than the nfl version but they're definitely winners and now they need some help if they're going to win a national tournament. >> and what begins as a quest to win a race turns into an amazing story of friendship. a stray dog joins an adventure team on a race through the amazon. kathy. >> an early winter storm barrels up the east coast. it's not going to be here long. it will be a quick hitter but it will leave an impression.

team that we can all celebrate here in the delaware valley. >> the olney eagles football team is undefeated and has its eye on a national championship tournament but the team needs to clear a big hurdle before it can take the field. "eyewitness news" reporter natasha brown has our story. >> reporter: they wear eagles green. their practices are just as fierce. their stature may be smaller but the olney eagles heart for the game of football is larger than life. >> we went eight and zero in our regular season. 10 and zero including the playoffs. we only gave up one touchdown all year including the playoffs. we scored over 200 points. >> reporter: these nine and 10 year old youth football league players have racked up impressive stats a record that's a landed them at a spot at the national championship game in tampa florida. there's just one problems. >> money, money, money. >> reporter: tell me was need there. >> we need any donation, any penny, any little bit helps. the guys have done a great

job. they've worked hard. they look ford to getting to this point in the season and they're excited. >> reporter: the national championship game in tampa florida is just a few weeks away and the olney eagles are still thousands of dollars short of reaching their fundraising goal. >> it's going to be a huge experience for us, for me going there for the first time. >> reporter: the trip for the entire team of 18 players would cost about $15,000. the olney eagles have launched a go fund me campaign hoping the community will step up to help this philadelphia team's dreams of a national championship come true that. >> this is an amazing experience for these children. they probably won't get to this point next time. they got very close last year and they reached it this year and they deserve it. >> reporter: in olney, natasha brown, "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> good luck to them. >> go eagles. >> one new jersey lawmaker is proposing legislation to limit store hours on thanks

everything good. state senator dick codey is pushing the bill which would prevent stores from opening for business before 9:00 p.m. on thanksgiving day. the democrat says it will give workers a chance to enjoy the holiday with their families. more than two dozen malls and outlets in new jersey will open on thanksgiving with some opening as early as 10:00 a.m. and with just two days before thanksgiving, the philadelphia police department is in the spirit of the season "eyewitness news" at police headquarters today where they were busy booking up thanksgiving meals for 400 families. each box contains a turkey, green beans, potatoes, celery and cranberry sauce. you can't forget that. the police commissioner took part along with members of the community relations units and the police athletic gleg now a story that shows the incredible bond between man and dog. a swedish team was competing in the adventure racing world championship in he can quad door when they noticed a stray dog following them. well, they wound up hiking through the mountains, kayaking through the amazon rainforest all with their new

friend following along the entire way. they all crossed the finish line together and in the end, the team captain wound up adopting that dog. >> it is still mild across part of the delaware valley. we are seeing some temperatures in the 50's especially closer to the shore. to the north and west some cooler temperatures we know a storm is coming. our eyewitness weather watchers are checking in with us this evening and you can see down toward the barrier islands in ocean city, greg is reporting a temperature of 51 degrees. get closer to the city and 51 degrees. 43 degrees. this reported by kevin just a few minutes ago saying not much wind in mullica hill. the barometric pressure is staged it's going to be falling very soon. to the north and west of philadelphia where we have app winter storm warning in effect for snow, keith is staying in hamburg no wind but 40 degrees and falling fast. if you would like to be an eyewitness weather watcher, you can be featured in one of

our newscast as early as tomorrow. so hurry up and sign up before the storm gets here. go to cbsphilly.com/watchers. outside sure does look pretty. you'd never know some rain and slushy snow is coming tomorrow in center city philadelphia. right now temperatures around forty degrees in some locations. reading 39. 40 in lancaster. philadelphia 48. 48 in wilmington. 49 in dover but 40 in the poconos. and it will be falling during the early morning hours. fall toward freezing tomorrow and that makes the snow fairly slushy in our advisory area as you get to the north and west where we have some higher elevations we're going to be seeing some colder temperatures and some heavier snow. the pink area is the warning area. hazardous travel as early as tomorrow morning, late morning especially through the lehigh valley and the poconos. here's our storm moving toward the north and east an early snowstorm for our northern and western suburbs and you can see at 7:00 a.m. mainly rain but after that, we see that

rain changing over to snow, even in philadelphia between 10:00 a.m. and noon, right along that i-95 corridor, it's going to be close, between heavy rain and heavy snow and then as the storm pull asway everything changes over to snow, even toward the shore and then it quickly exits around 8:00 or nine p.m. after that we're just talking about breezy cold conditions. safe travel, well, we're adds advising everyone to hit those majors before 7:00 a.m. when it's mainly rain or wait until after 8:00 p.m. tomorrow evening when the snow is over. that will be the safest time to travel. as far as snow accumulations, the heaviest amounts through the poconos where we want it in our extreme northern suburbs, the lehigh valley four to 6-inches. along that i-95 corridor, close to 2-inches of a slushy accumulation and the northern and western suburbs close by to the city we're talking about two to four. so a coating to 2-inches possible, a slushy accumulation in hammonton.

as you get toward warminster, radnor, two to four, even trenton and hopewell two to four. four to six in allentown, perkasie, lehigh and a lot of this heavy snow can tug on power lines as well and six to eight once again in the poconos. with temperatures so close to freezing it does create problems, that sloppy wet snow will stick to the grass at first especially in philadelphia and once again four to 6-inches could create big prob else before. overnight the low temperature 38. the high tomorrow 40 and falling and as rain quickly changes to snow, thanksgiving looking good, chilly with the temperature of 41. on the exclusive eyewitness weather seven-day forecast, 41 degrees for thursday, cold for friday and temperatures slowly moderating by next sunday or i should say this sunday back into the 50's. we want to remind you that you can check out the weather any time with the cbsphilly weather app. tomorrow's a great day to download it. get severe weather alerts, share your storm pictures, download the app now on android, itunes and google play. we're going to need it

it. one of the incidents that bought the coaches natitude happened the last time they met on thanksgiving 25 years ago. eagles coach buddy ryan was accused of offering a bounty for a hard hit on cowboys kicker lieu zendhaus. >> he had been an eagles kicker and left here on not the best of terms with buddy ryan and apparently or allegedly buddy said go get him and they talked about the bounty. now we know all about the bounties that occurred with the saints that became very serious business at that time. this was more laughed off although jimmy johnson was very, very upset with buddy ryan after the game. >> i would have said something to buddy but he wouldn't stand on the field long enough. he put his big fat rear end into the dressing room. >> diet and lost a couple pounds.
