is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> now at 10:00 the shopping madness is under way. long lines outside of local stores for the best holiday deals. good evening to you, happy thanksgiving. i'm jessica dean. it's a belly full of turkey shoppers have all the energy they might need round up the door busters. live at cherry hill mall and david doors opened there at 6 o'clock and you said shoppers were ready to go. >> reporter: yeah, jessica they're trod go. things are starting to pick up a little bit more at cherry hill mall. $718 that's what people will spend on this black friday holiday season. some people said they spent that money in minutes. it's game on for deal seekers. thousands of holiday shoppers hit the stores as soon as the doors opened. >> i got my birthday present, my michael kors bag.

>> reporter: cherry hill mall will stay opened for 28 hours straight and shoppers inside tell us they love the idea. >> you get to walk off your turkey dinner and see what's out there and on sale and if you can get a good deal. >> reporter: just a few miles away we found tech hounds inside this best buy. looking for the perfect tv, phone, whatever caught shoppers eyes. >> they have such great sales and i think my daughter's looking forward to an ipad air so they have a really good deal tonight. i'm trying to get one. >> reporter: in some analysts say lower gas prices translate to more spending. the big question is opening thanksgiving day too early? it depends who you ask. >> i think the earlier the better. you don't get all the frantic people at the doors tearing down doors. >> reporter: state senator richard codey a democrat from north jersey wants to make it illegal for stores in the garden state to open before 9:00 p.m. thanksgiving day. he says early open times only hurt employees. in a statement codey said

thanksgiving is the one day they get to spend with their families. companies should put their workers' needs over their own profits at least for a day but while it's still legal, shoppers say they'll continue to come out and if it's earlier next year, they'll be there. >> i think it's a great idea. eat your food, come and shop, man, you know. >> reporter: a great idea. the national retail federation says 140 million people will shop on high pressure or in stores this weekend. for information on mall hours we have that posted on cbsphilly.com. we're live at cherry hill mall, david spunt "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the cw philly david thanks so much. k-mart got a very early start today. this one on roosevelt boulevard in mayfair opened its doors at 6:00 this morning. this particular store will be opened for 42 straight hours through thanksgiving and black friday. we've posted a list of the holiday shopping hours at area malls not just for tomorrow but for all season long. it's at our web site

cbsphilly.com. one big question on the minds of many, what's the weather going to be like for black friday. kate bilo has the answer a lot of people are looking for. >> good news jessica they won't get wet or snowed on but it is going to be very cold out there. it was a cold thanksgiving day even though it was dry. you can see on storm scan3 any of these flurries or snow showers are dying before they reach our area, maybe a stray shower around buffalo -- i should say because gets into dover. these are coming from around the buffalo area kind of some lake effect and upper level low rotating through the great lakes. i don't think we're dealing with much in the way of snowflakes or raindrops this evening it's just cold outside. here's what you'll wake up to friday morning. 29 degrees will be the morning throw in philadelphia, 25 in reading and 23 in allentown. look at mount pocono, 22 degrees. any spots north and west especially with snow on the ground are going to feel a little bit colder on friday. here's a look at that shopping forecast. if you're up early, 5:00 a.m., it's only 29 degrees. we get up to about 34 by 10:00

a.m. and then we pretty much stay put mid to upper 30's all day long. doesn't even look like we'll break into the 40's so not a great day to be outside for too long. definitely want to bundle up if you're doing any of those outdoor outlet malls you may want to stave save them for the afternoon. coming up more on that black friday shopping forecast, i'll tell you what the winds will be like for friday and if we can expect any rain through the weekend as we warm things up a little bit. we have rain chances next week. no snow in the seven day but i'll tell you when the rain gets in and if it could delay holiday travel plans. that's coming up with the seven day. jessica. >> kate thanks so much. eagles fans have a lot to be thankful for after a turkey day stomping of the dallas cowboys. >> i'll tell was, the eagles, they got a great shot at this whole thing, home field advantage. tonight is the night. proving they're the best hands down team in the nfc and probably the nfl. >> strong words there.

the retort family drove all the way from charlotte just to be in philly to watch this game. today's victory puts the eagles in the top spot of the nfc east. eyewitness sports anchor lesley van arsdale is live in the sat center with a more on wane. so many people excited tonight. >> it is a very happy thanksgiving for a lost people. big win in the big d. eagles easily handling the cowboys taking first place in the nfc east. this wip could play well for the birds heading down the home stretch of the season. the eagles run game looking much better than it has all year. lesean mccoy the ball for 25 carries putting up 159 yards averaging more than 6 yards per carry. third quarter he had a 38-yard touchdown. eagles take that win 33 to 10. here's shady after the game talking about a little recent criticism about his numbers this year. >> the time of where we're at in the season, all the talk,

you guys saying about me and the line and all that, mixed up in the season where we need to get a big win. i think as a team we worked hard in the running game a a today. kept pushing, kept pushing. big ones broke out for us. >> i don't think anyone is going to be questioning him any time soon. eagles record nine and four. more highlights later in sports. jess. >> lesley thanks. philly is known for its tradition on thanksgiving whether it be football or the city's big parade. >> ♪ philadelphia thanksgiving parade is the oldest in the country. marching bands cartoon balloons and colorful floats made their way through the streets and a few blocks away the christmas village. today was the first day of business. the traditional german christmas market will open through -- be opened through the last sunday of december. not even a four alarm four could keep the columbus farmers market in burlington county from keeping their thanksgiving tradition alive.

the fire destroyed one of the main buildings but the other building survived and shoppers strolled along just as they've always done in search of good deals. >> families get up early, put their turkey in the oven, come out here to shop and they've been doing it for decade and we're very pleased that today is a good market day out there. we have no snow. we have lots of vendors, lots of shoppers and we have the inside stores back opened. >> the outdoor market was opened today. it will be closed tomorrow and reopen saturday and sunday. the indoor market will be opened through sunday. last week's family tragedy in tabernacle new jersey took its toll on the entire community. but for one furry friend loss has been unbearable. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhury tells us about the quest to find a loving home for that family's pet. >> what a horrible thing for this dog to lose his three best friends. >> reporter: on november 20th police arrived to a disturbing scene in tabernacle. a mother shot her three children and then turned the

gun on herself. jeanine lepage alexander nadia and nicholas were all found shot and these eyes may have seen it happen. >> i'm glad she spared him. >> reporter: animal control took him to a shelter until sue from the burlington county animal alliance decided to put him in a foster home. >> he needed to be in a home where people could pet him and care for him and help him to heal. >> reporter: and it didn't take long for many folks to reach out to the burlington canny county animal alliance asking to adopt bum bells. patrick hines was nicholas' best friend and he remembered seeing bumbles when he would go to his house. his mom saw his story on facebook. >> we're a small community. we all wish we could have known and we could have done something and prevented the tragedy. >> reporter: the organization decided it was best for him to be adopted by someone who knew his family. patrick and bumbles will now help each other heel after they boast lost a friend.

>> we just had so many good times together, it's just really hard to see him go. >> reporter: syma chowdhury, "eyewitness news" on the cw philly after three nights of protest that is turned destructive ferguson, missouri was quiet this thanksgiving. some artists painted scenes on boarded up storefronts and churches and volunteers prepared holiday meals and distributed food to those in need. >> you need to start integrating and being together and interacting. i think that's our biggest issue and we have to have more of these uncomfortable conversations. >> at new york city macy's thanksgiving day parade a group of protesters chanted justice for mike brown. the parade was not disrupted. police arrested about seven of the protesters. >> local heroes on a big state. mo'ne davis and company leading the pack at new york city's big parade. that's coming up next. plus, tragedy avoided in new york as two young boys buried in the snow are

>> cell phone video captured scary moments outside of new york city as police and neighbors rescued two boys buried under a massive snow pile. christine sloane from our sister station w cbs in new york has the story. >> snow bank two little babies. >> reporter: this iphone video was shot as police and neighbors rescued two children buried overnight under a pile of snow in new burg new york. >> from what i understand the dog was barking and took the attention to where these children were a somebody heard the muffled sounds of the kids under the snow. they were digging them out. people were screaming for shovels. they dug them out. fortunately they were alive and well and the police got a big round of applause. >> reporter: one of the boys j.j. martinez his mother let facebook friends know how he and his cousin were found just after 2:00 in the morning and are doing well. stevens' son plays with j.j. she shot the video and helped get the boys out. >> all i seen was the feet. the little boy's feet was

hanging out of the thing and he was shaking and his mother was it's all right. >> reporter: the boys were playing in this porky parking lot across from one of their homes when they went missing just after 6 o'clock last night. that is when a frantic search started by police and residents. their guess, a snowplow had something to do with it. >> when i left at 5:30 the snowplow was out here. he started plowing already. he probably didn't see them or something because my son was with them. >> reporter: j.j.'s mom posted on facebook that her son is still in the hospital after his ordeal in this parking lot but is doing just fine. she thanked police for her thanksgiving miracle. in new burg, new york, christine sloane, cbs two news. >> some famous philadelphians take the spotlight in the big apple. the taney dragons kicked off the macy day thanksgiving parade. that team may have lost the little league world series but they won the hearts of the

city. they were all smiles. >> reporter:. in pitman volunteers got up for a thanksgiving tradition. they loaded up nearly 3,000 meals for people all over south jersey. it was started by ron zoltz. he says he grew up without much and the need is unmistakable. >> it's a lot worse than i can see in a long time, worse than last year. >> the cooking started wednesday with 71 turkeys. the restaurant distributed 3,000 slices of pie. every year thousands of people finish thanksgiving and jump right into another holiday tradition. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers spent the evening in kennett square at longwood gardens. >> reporter: so, you've either 10 all the turkey now what? you could go to the movies if you're brave maybe go shopping or you could do something a bit different. and by different, we mean leap forward to celebrating the

next round of holidays amidst the shimmering lights. >> ♪ >> reporter: and the water fountains. at longwood gardens the in kennett square. the arbor rifts here start putting up the lights on the trees and the arch ways and floating platforms for that matter back in august. half a million twinkling bulbs on 28 miles of cord. for many a yearly event. >> are you having a good time? yeah. >> reporter: she's having a good time. >> she likes it, i love it. >> reporter: a convenient way to jump start the holiday season. >> this is how we welcome christmas. >> yes, christmas is all the way here, all the way home. >> reporter: for others though it was just a way to get out of the house after a heavy meal. >> i stuff myself with turkey and then come here and work out. just a trace of snow at the airport but some spots near the poconos got well over 6-inches of snow. up there in broad headsville 22 degrees, it is very chilly. as we head closer to home we are seeing things really kind of clear out as we go through tonight. the skies are clearing and any of these snow showers are kind of not going to get here, they're all missing us, they're fizzling off to the west. around buffalo area a few of those snow showers making it to the ground and more over portions of massachusetts an area that doesn't need it. this area got hit with heavy snow yesterday. most of these are dying before they reach us, that's good news. no problems with rain or snow on the area roadways. future weather agrees. tried to bring a little flurry in here as we go through the rest of the evening but can't rule that out. starting friday with sunshine and not even a cloud in the sky on future weather right through the day on black friday, so no problems for shoppers chow.

clouding up overnight friday night into saturday morning. temperatures right now have dropped considerably. we're down to 24 already in allentown, 22 in mount pocono. 32 right now at the airport. sitting at the freezing mark and 29 in lancaster so this means any of these spots you see sub freezing if you have wet spots on the roads, the roads still kind of wet with the melting snow especially in the north and west suburbs watch for slippery spots. i noted my front steps looked a little wet from the melting snow and when i get home tonight i'm going to have to step carefully. don't what to slip on that ice tonight. current winds are five to 10 miles per hour from the north and west so still a bit brisk outside and it has been feeling that way all day today. tomorrow same story, highs own in there 30's. despite sunshine it will be a cold brisk day. back to the 40's. high pressure staying planned through the weekend. if it's dry. if you have travel plans tomorrow, saturday, sunday you're fine weather-wise. 29 tonight, it's cold but it's dry for black friday, 39 degrees. and then the rest of the holiday weekend is dry and we

jump from the 30's to their 40's to the 50's by sunday, partly sunny. monday nearing 60. but watch for a couple can of showers by monday evening then it gets colder again tuesday, warming up with a chance of rain again wednesday and then colder again thursday so it's just a fight between the warmth and then a shower comes through and then it cools down again but the good news with that seven-day forecast, no snow. >> no snow. we can take a little break from that. >> yeah, we'll take it. >> kate thank you. >> lesley, this is a great thanksgiving. >> many thankful fans. eagles with that huge victory in dallas. the offense running on all cylinders and i'll have the

first in the opening drive. mark sanchez leading the offense down the field taking it the rest of the way by himself. sanchez boot legs to his left able to get the mall to an open jordan matthew. eagles already up 14-nothing. romo connects with dez bryant right there. a 38-yard pass to set up a dallas touchdown. eagles were you 23-10 the ball to lesean mccoy proving, yes, he is still the same player breaking a thirty eight yard run for a touchdown. that would extend the lead to 20. from there the defense locks things down. birds coming away with a huge victory on the road they take first place in the division, the final score 33 to 10. >> our guys came ready to play, played with great energy. we were excited about playing. we knew it was a nontraditional week. we had nothing to do with the schedule. you tell us when to play we'll play. our guys had a great app project starting sunday.

>> really proud of the way we started the game for the offense but across-the-board just an amazing team win. >> once we just kind of got in the rhythm we just kept going and going and that's what we do. we're built for it. >> we have a quick update on nick foles. sources say is he's expected to get another ct scan tomorrow. talk about him being out longer than the original six to eight weeks. we'll know more after tomorrow but right now looks like sanchez will stay behind center for the rest of the regular season. seahawks in san francisco tonight. both teams tied for second in the nfc west. right now seattle up 13-nothing in the third quarter. the bears hosting the lions this afternoon right here on cbs3 over on our sister station i should say. chicago gets that early lead up 14-three after the first quarter. lions able to rally in the second scoring three unanswered touchdowns stafford would end up throwing for 390 yards, two touchdowns. detroit gets the win 34 to 17. saint joe's basketball the hawks hosting west kentucky
