7:15 am
i think we're on a, we had this planned for 7:17. they have moved it to 7:17 a.m. eastern time and we are on a slight hold now and i'm looking at count down clock in front of me around three minutes and 40 since to launch time. we are in the slight hold there. there had been a slight issue they reported with the second stage rocket the propeller that will pre will pelorian at 3600 miles in above altitude in that second more of an oval orbit, one of two orbits around the earth that or rice an will do during this test flight today. we are in the slight hold here but they have fairly large window for this launch this morning, guys at two hours and 39 minutes. so, they are not concern, they are not having any weather issues, at this point this morning. the sunnies up here. the nice breeze and cloud cover and they are not reporting any weather issues
7:16 am
with orion at this point. they are optimistic. they have got this large window which to launch this craft. it is a test flight this morning. once they get launch it is four and a half hours. orion will orbit the earth two times a lot of things they want to test here. they want to test that heat shield of or rice an when it comes back in the atmosphere. it is 16 and a half feet wide, largest heat shield they have ever tested this comes in at 20,000 miles per hour, generating 4,000 degrees fahrenheit of heat. a lot of heat. they want to make sure once they decide to put a astronauts in this capsule it will be safe. they want to test navigation systems, computer hardware, software, they want to test the series of parachutes that will slow this capsule down, allowing it to drop into the ocean and then they want to test retrieval system of pulling this capsule into the boat and make sure that all this works. a all this done in four and a half hours. a short test flight but a lot
7:17 am
to get done and certainly a big deal in the long range picture for nasa as this is spacecraft they hope to eventually take humanness to deep space particularly targeting mars sometime around 2030, 2535, that is a long way away, a lot of steps between now and then but today is a key part of that step and it looks like, i'm looking a little bit here because they have this new count down clock not as easy to see, little will more high tech, in the quite as easety see but we are still holding at three minutes and 43 seconds until launch but again, ukee and nicole they have a large launch window at two hours and 39 minutes. they are still hold agent this point and we will sianni listening to see what they report as to why they are still holding. it could be still this vessel in that eastern range off the coast they are trying to get out of the way for this launch guys. >> craig, we heard from a producer it could be a wind issue as well, can you tell that? can you feel that as well.
7:18 am
>> reporter: there is a a breeze. i don't know if you are hearing anything on weather issues. but we're confirm that right now it is a wind issue, so there is a slight weather issues as they are waiting on this launch here holding at three minutes and 43 seconds. quite a mood around kennedy space center. thousands of people line up along the causeway and jetties, and it is a crowd not seen here since the the last space shuttle launch in 2011. so a big, big, component here as this energy returns to the kennedy space center. they are going back to that apollo energy this that, you know, been more than 40 years since nasa has looked to taking humans into deep space. it was a apollo 17 mission in 1972 because all of the space shuttle missions have been in that lower earth orbit. now they are talking about taking humans out of low earth
7:19 am
and deeper in to space. they are going back to that apollo kind of attitude and taking people into keep space. people talking about. that i asked scientist about that saying you guys over hyping this launch. they said no, we're back in the apollo mode and back in the energy. even though it is years away to get to mars they are still raising the, you know, the public's awareness of what they are doing and they are sparking that energy into science and space exploration and this younger generation. a a lot of things going on there. >> you can tell craig is excited. >> we appreciate the insight. thanks, craig reporting from cape canaveral live. >> thanks, craig. 7:19. let the get to katie. >> we will start off guys with a local view here for you here up at the poconos where unis is popping over the horizon. beautiful colors, anytime you

actions and decisions protester staged a die in at the 30th street station. lying on the ground for four minutes and making their way through center city and city hall and that is where party was going on here and they were not happy to see them, take a listen. >> who could do something like. that they are only ruining it for rest of the neighborhood and rest of the people who want their children to see something like this. >> travesty of justice what happened and we will have to take to the streets to make a change. >> reporter: protesters also tried to get on to the i-76 on ramp, they were stopped there, however, despite that, the police say protests were largely peaceful and organizers have promised that more events are planned. we are live at city a hall this morning i'm just continue finch for "eyewitness news" at cw philly. >> justin, thank you. as they just heard, grand jury declines to bring charges against a new york city police officer in the choke hold death of eric garner. that decision sparked protests
7:32 am
in new york and all across the country. >> no justice, in peace. tone of the protest was similar to those over the ferguson case. demonstrators accused nypd of racism. garner was black, officer daniel pantleo was white. the incident was captured on amateur video back in july. pant leo and other officers were trying to arrest garner for selling lose cigarettes on staten island. pantleo used choke hold restraint on garner there he died one hour later. his death was later ruled a homicide the officer expressed his condolences over incident but his widow says his apology has little impact on the family. >> he should be here celebrating christmas, thanksgiving, and everything else with his children and his grandchildren and he cannot? why? because a cop did wrong. somebody that get paid to do right did wrong and he is not held accountable for it.
7:33 am
>> take a look at this, this is a minivan plowing through a group of protesters in st. louis, missouri. police say it is unclear if the incident was intentional or if protesters jumped in front of that moving vehicle. the driver was taken into custody while they sorted all of those details out. a at least two people suffered minor injuries but thankfully no one was seer seriously hurt. >> lets see how it will feel outside. >> it will still feel cold but we are seeing a much brighter day. i think just by comparison it will be so much nicer for you. you'll walk outside the door and say hhh, a wreath of fresh air. you want have to have your heavy coat when i but look at this view, still beautiful. granted, at 32 degrees it will be cold one outside at kutztown middle school. beautiful sunrise for almost everybody and we will have a few more clouds here and there as the kay goes on but that is it. you can expect some nice dry storm scan three view all day and all night and most of tomorrow for that matter. but, you can hear tonight my
