is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> the weekend is here. but so is the rain. we're tracking some wet weather and a big storm system passes right over the delaware valley. good evening, i'm jessica dean. >> and i'm chris may. yes, it is a soggy start to the weekend with the rainfall putting a bit of a damper on friday night but how long will the rain stick aroundup meteorologist kate bilo is with us tonight. she has the latest. kate. >> thank you chris and jessica. we are tracking heavier rain as we head into saturday. anything we're seeing tonight is light and spotty in nature. it's moving through but not all of that currently reaching in the ground. mainly light rain and sprinkles. this is the rain that will impact us tomorrow. i want to see what we have out there tonight, pockets of steadier showers across berks and lancaster county and into northern new jersey at the moment. one thing to note we have had a significant amount of icing in the poconos. all these little reports, these are all storm reports dealing with ice and freezing rain on the roads. i want to take you to this one right here, this one right

along i in 80. there was a 10 vehicle crash here with four injuries reported thanks to a tenth of an inch of ice in that area. this is a part of the region that is really dealing with the worst of the impact tonight as temperatures were below freezing when the rain moved in and remained below freezing in spots now although temperatures are gradually rising as we head through the overnight hours. this area carbon and monroe county are in a winter weather advisory that goes until 1:00 a.m. and any spot in this advisory area could be dealing with more sleet and freezing rain on untreated roads even treated roads may be icy so allow extra time if you're headed towards the poconos. light rain tonight, a break in the morning and here comes the heavy stuff. by tomorrow midday it fills in. coming up more on the timing of this storm for your saturday and if it gets out of here in time for the eagles game on sunday. i'll have that in just a few minutes. jessica. >> kate thanks so much. new information in the torching of a detectives home in montgomery county. tonight police say the arsonist is a neighbor with a grudge. that fire happened on commons drive in lower pottsgrove

"eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones tells us how police captured that suspect. >> reporter: this fire investigators allege was set by the next door neighbor. court records indicate donna krupp had an ax to grind with her neighbor limerick police detective ernie morris. now the detective's home he shares with his wife and two teenaged the daughter center city destroyed just weeks before christmas. >> that is crazy. and it was something i never seen before and would not leak to see again. >> reporter: investigators allege surveillance cameras from the dead's home show a woman believed to be krupp walking across the front lawn and use wag appears to be a gas grille lighter to set the detective's christmas decorations on fire. just last month the detective had the cameras installed after someone poured carmel to the gas tank of his personal vehicle causing just under $3,000 in damages. were you protecting your son? according to pennsylvania state police, the 52-year-old

woman blamed detective morris for her son's incarceration on unrelated charges. morris and his family were vacationing in florida when the fire was set early thursday morning. no one was injured. krupp right now is locked up facing numerous charges including arson. her bail was set at $1 million. in lower pottsgrove township, todd quinones for "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the cw philly. >> well, developing news tonight. a man is dead after being shot 14 times in point breeze tonight. "eyewitness news" was there on south cleveland street. the victim was shot while driving this car. it it careened into the house. there was no one injured in the crash or the gunfire. the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital of the university of pennsylvania. police are actively investigating this crime tonight. rolling stone magazine is backpedaling and issuing an apology. the magazine now says the story it published about a gang rape at the university of

virginia may not be true. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live in the sat center with more on this very controversial article that is making news all over again. david. >> reporter: chris author sabrina rubin early lives in philadelphia. tonight she has a lot of questions to answer. we reached out to find out more about the story rolling stone says has that inconsistencies. the story called a rape on campus created an uproar across the country. a female student who went by the name jackie told rolling stone magazine seven men gang raped her inside the phi kappa sigh house on the university of virginia campus. uva stopped all greek life activities because of the article. an independent counsel also got involved. now this woman, philadelphia based author sabrina reuben early has tough questions to answer after rolling stone began backpedaling on the story friday afternoon. the managing editor wrote the

following on the magazine's web site. because of the sensitive nature of jackie's story we decided to honor her request not to contact the man she claimed orchestrated the attack on her nor any of the men she claimed participated in the attack for fear of retaliation against her. he continued. we were trying to be sensitive to the unfair shame and humiliation many women feel after a sexual assault and now regret the decision to not contact the alleged assaulters to get their account. students on campus reacted to the magazine's doubt of jackie's story. >> we should actually just continue this because it is an issue that pertains to everyone, not just females. >> reporter: we went by an address connected to early. a woman answered and said she didn't live their their anymore. we e-mailed and called her. no answer there. uva president released a statement telling the community that the school's focus continues to be on stopping sexual violence on campus and news of the recent

article inconsistencies should not change that focus. phi kappa sirelessd a statement questioning the original allegations. david spunt or "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the c cw philly. >> reporter marley hall has the latest on this new round of demonstrations. >> reporter: protests played out for a third night across the country friday as people expressed their anger over recent cases involving the deaths of unarmed black men during can confrontations with police. the protesters method was peaceful. their weapon inconvenience. in boston, demonstrators staged a die-in in the middle of a major intersection. in philadelphia, high school students laid down in silent protest. in chicago, demonstrators blocked famous lake shore drive and in aurora, colorado,

high school students marched on city hall. the outrage is in response to recent decisions by grand juries in new york and missouri not to charge white police officers in the deaths of michael brown in ferguson and eric garner in new york. >> they were martyrs. they died for their cause. we out here today because of them. >> i can't breathe. >> reporter: a group marched across manhattan to stage a die-in in apple's flagship store near central park a popular tourist stop. protesters left the apple store then proceeded to march down busy fifth avenue to continue their demonstration. so this was the third day of protests. how much longer do you feel you need to do this? >> until black people in this country and around the world get justice. >> reporter: protesters say they won't stop until they see results. in new york, marley hall for "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> well, here at home temple students expressed their dissatisfaction with the grand jury decisions in ferguson and new york.

those students marched with their hands up in north philadelphia today. "eyewitness news" was there at the corner of broad and cb moore. they also staged a so-called die-in shutting down broad street for several minutes today. >> philadelphia high school students joined the many protesters around the nation. "eyewitness news" was at central high school science leadership academy and masterman where students staged a die-in. students marched peacefully through neighborhoods streets. >> new at 10 o'clock tonight, "eyewitness news" is there as volunteers hit the streets in the search for missing west chester university student. a family and friends of 21-year-old shane montgomery posted fliers along south street in philadelphia today. they also talked there with bar goers. they're hoping to find any new information they can on montgomery's disappearance. he was last seen leaving kildare's pub in manayunk early thanksgiving morning. >> how can a young man walk out of that door and no one sees him again? >> well, the reward in the

disappearance of shane montgomery has now increased to $40,000. >> tonight police are waiting for rapper beanie sigel to wake up from surgery at an atlantic city hospital so they can question him. the philadelphia native was shot in the torso at a home on spruce avenue in pleasantville atlantic county this morning. his real name is dwight grant. siegel's brother-in-law was also injured in the shooting. police say there was an altercation at the home around that time the gunfire erupted. >> shell casings and ammunition found outside but when we got to the house mr. grant was in the house, so at this point we don't know if the shooting took place outside and he went in or if the shooting took place in the house. >> siegel was just released from prison back in august after serving two years for federal tax evasion. in 2006 the 40-year-old was shot multiple times during a philadelphia robbery. >> no criminal charges will be filed in the central bucks west hazing scandal. the district attorney david

heckler announced his office had received no evidence that would call for charges. the allegations first surfaced in october forcing the school to cancel the rest of their football season. eventually the head coach, brian hensel was fired and several of his assistants were suspended. >> subaru is on the move. the automaker is moving its north american headquarters from cherry hill 4 miles down the road to camden. chopper three tonight overt current headquarters on route 70 in cherry hill. subaru is seeking $118 million in tax breaks over 10 years as part of that move to camden. the company will purchase a site near campbell soup and plans to construct a new building there. there's more tonight on the sex assault allegations surrounding bill cosby. >> l.a. police are now getting involved as more alleged victims come forward. we'll have the latest next. >> plus, the president introduces the newest secretary of defense mom northeast he's from our area. kate. >> we're tracking rain moving

flawlessly today. the orion capsule blasted off from florida into deep space about three hours after lift offorion reached peak altitude 3600 miles from earth. it returned making a splash off the coast of baja california. orion could some day take human to mars. detectives meet weighing woman who claims to be sexually assaulted by bill cosby. >> police are not releasing any additional details. meantime crews spent the day cleaning up cosby's star on the walk of fame after it was defaced. someone wrote the word rapist on it. president obama makes it official today he nominated montgomery county native ashton carter to be the next secretary of defense. carter graduated from abington high school in 1972. if confirmed he'll lead the pentagon for the final two years of the obama

administration. reporter mark albert has details. >> reporter: president obama says ashton carter is the right man at the right time to take charge of the pentagon. >> he knows the department of defense inside and out. which all of can which means that on day one he's going to hit the ground running. >> reporter: carter served as the deputy defense secretary from 2011 until 2013 he says that experience has prepared him for this new challenge. >> if confirmed in this job, i pledge to you my most candid strategic advice. >> reporter: secretary chuck hagel resigned just before thanksgiving after a face to face meet wind gust president obama. thursday he denied allegations he was forced out. >> just two of us in the room during these discussions. we both came to the conclusion that i think the country was best served with new leadship. >> reporter: ashton carter was not the only person considered to replace hagel. several candidates withdrew

folks out there on the slopes at jack frost/big boulder. lights are on but we've seen rain, freezing drizzle even vote in the poconos. they have the snow on the ground from our previous storms and from the snow machines there at jack frost/big boulder. let's take a look at storm scan3 which is showing light rain moving through our area tonight. still freezing rain and sleet possible up through the poconos but this right here over portions of indiana, kentucky, down into tennessee that is the rain that will be impacting us tomorrow and tomorrow afternoon is when the storm will really hit. most of the rain is generally light and spotty a-few showers up portions of northern montgomery county, bucks county into burlington county, new jersey, and a few more showers moving into lancaster county right now. temperature-wise we've actually risen just above freezing in mount pocono. that's good news. 36 in allentown, 42 at the airport and 44 in millville so with all the region above freezing, it looks like the threat for ice will be diminishing over the next few hours.

that winter weather advisory does expire at 1:00 a.m. as we continue through the rest of tonight just generally light rain, a few sprinkles here and there. really the rain doesn't start to fill in until tomorrow afternoon. here's 1:00 p.m. you can see the rain starting to move into the south and then it just explodes across the area by later in the afternoon and the evening. this is 5 o'clock tomorrow night. steady rain in philadelphia right through the shore points as well. that continues into the first part of the overnight even but by 11, 12 o'clock we start to see the rain move out and by sunday morning most of us waking up to some sunshine. so, overnight cloudy and cool, scattered showers around at any time. for your saturday morning, clouds, a little bit of a lull early saturday. some light rain is possible but this is really a saturday afternoon, saturday evening event, that's when the heaviest and steadiest rain will occur and some spots could see up to an inch of rain through our saturday afternoon and then we're tracking the threat of another storm. here's the system we're watching next week. tuesday into wednesday comes up the coast with rain and wind and then it could end with the threat of a little bit of snow especially to the north and west. that would be late tuesday

into wednesday. looks like we will see some heavy rain on tuesday with this system. we'll continue too keep you posted with that. overnight tonight cloudy skies, still some showers, 41 will be the overnight low for us. for your saturday, periods of rain especially in afternoon and the evening, 55 degrees the high. so, notice we're not in any kind of a threat for snow. temperatures will be mild for our saturday. we clear it out on zinn. good news for anyone with eagles tickets. it's going to be a pretty nice game. 4:25 just at the time of sunset, 44 will be the kickoff temperature, its breezy, it's chilly but it is generally dry through the game. your eyewitness weather seven-day forecast. you can see how cooler it gets on sunday. more clouds on monday and then tracking that next system coming up the coast tuesday with rain and gusty winds, brisk and cold on wednesday and we'll keep it brisk and chilly right through the end of the week as well with temperatures just slowly rebounding into the 40's. >> hm. >> tomorrow is the warmest day but not the day you want to get outside. >> not really the driest day.

make it two in a row taking on the thunder is the tender. sixers off from the start on this one. check out who is there, defensive player of the month connor barwin in the house checking out the game. sixers may have found themself a player in robert covington. nailing the three here. he had a team high 21 points on the night but it was a huge monster game for russell westbrook. we have an -- sixers had a strong fourth quarter. mcw and nerlens noel nice give and go here for the alley-oop but the sixers lose this one tonight 103 to 91. >> in the group gets where we're at and they've bought in. even if you could hear them talk after the game tonight, you know, they're proud of their efforts. they're not getting tricked. they know when we play poorly or not and so they feel like they have more to give, they know that we're going to continue to get better and we're going to sneak up on some people. >> one of the best defenses in the nfl taking on one of the best offenses in a game that

will have an effect on the playoff positioning in a few weeks. seattle coming off a huge win over 49ers on thanksgiving. eagles with that great win over dallas. this week pete carroll will face mark sanchez and talk about the eagles offense. >> they do a lot of good things. they're making yards running the football controlling the clock getting a lot of plays and quarterbacks are functioning really well. mark looks really quick in the offense. his decision making, he's very decisive and gets the ball out and they've got guys opened so he's making good use of the system. >> former fill and now nationals outfielder jayson werth sentenced to 10 days in jail for reckless driving. five months ago he was caught driving his posh at 155 in a 55 miles an hour zone on the capital beltway. the judge asked him what he was doing he answered pushing his luck. >> well, that's what happens.
