>> firefighters mourning the loss of the first female fire fighters to die in the line of duty. firefighter, whose name has not been released cents watt battling flames on the row home of 1600 block, told the fire started in the basement then spread to the first and second floors. earlier this morning, mayor mike nutter spoke from einstein medical center. >> please know that this firefighter was doing her job, to the best of her ability, but, unfortunately, died fighting this fire. >> and the firefighter was a 11 year veteran of the philadelphia fire department. the cause of the blaze is still being looked into. again, philadelphia firefighter, a female,

philadelphia firefighter, is dead fighting a row home fire in west oaklane. >> we also have our eye on the storm this morning. a nor'easter is just slamming the region, and packing quite a punchment look what the winds is doing to our camera out there in atlantic city where coastal flood something expected. wow, just some severe winds. >> indeed. let's get traffic and weather together. here's kate. >> i it is really very strong wind. we expect those gust toss peak as high as maybe 45, if not, pushing 50 miles per hour, along some of those our shore points. the wind, the rain, absolutely the biggest concern, and those locations, but there is a lot going on here on storm scan3. heavy rain and wind for sure along new jersey, basically, sort of splitting the state in half here as it pertaining to our viewing area, but little dry slot worked its way in. notice it basically meant the state of delaware for the last few hours has remained essentially rain free. off to the northwest, colder air in the works, allowing for some of the mick that we've seen with the pink, the

purple, that show up on storm scan here in the last few hours, here is a view in fact if you look in the distance, make out the center city skyline. but at the moment just very cloudy, very dreary, if it is not raining where you are, it is just windy and cold. meanwhile, i mention the flood potential here, down near the shore points, very gusty northeast wind. will help shove that water on shore. and it is very persistent. not to mention heavy rain falling down, so there are coastal flood warnings, in effect this morning, and high tide is set to come in really over the next hour and a half or so. but the brunt of the storm happening as we speak. it is a slow system, stowe will take a while to get out of here, and we're talking few days before it is totally gone. but the worse of what it has to offer up for our region is out there right now. >> this commute underway to see the biggest impact from the storm. >> we do have the cameras to prove it, i'm about to show you the schuylkill expressway, where you can see, low visibility here as well. rain completely covers this lens here.

at the boulevard, so eastbound, and westbound every crawls in both directions, ben franklin bridge, only good news we have here, all lanes are open, in both directions, and you can see, even slowly moving into new jersey, but this is from the philly side, so all lanes open, headed westbound, into the city completely crawling, you can see it complete stand still there almost. now, some traffic light out, out on the boulevard haldeman avenue, police activity on the scene trying to get it cleaned up out of the way, make sure everybody's safe. fifteen minute delays on eastbound patco there, due to equipment problems. and washington lane completely closed at autumn road. best bet to get around the satisfy to take meeting house road. currently do have hour and 19 minute delays at the philadelphia international airport. so call your align and see if you're affected by. that will only good thing we have going on here no problems for septa, amtrak or dart. >> updating breaking news, female firefighter killed in the line of duty.

>> walt hunter joins us now live at einstein medical center where the the mayor and fire commissioner spoke earlier this morning. walt? >> the news fire officials received here at einstein medical -- >> seem to be having some technical difficulties, we hope to get back to him very shortly. once again, philadelphia firefighter, female, 11 year veteran of the philadelphia fire department was killed this morning after fight ac blaze in the line every duty and in west oaklane. mayor mike nutter spoke about this tragedy, earlier this morning, let's hear from the mayor now. >> our thoughts and prayers go out to family of this firefighter, who made the ultimate sacrifice. >> this would be the first female firefighter to die in the line every duty in the city of philadelphia.

so we have two families that suffered a great lost. >> that's the firefighters family and of course the philadelphia fire department family. we are continuing to follow this story. we hope to get back to walt hunter out in front every einstein hospital in just a few moments, we certainly hope you will stay with us for that. our other top stories of cost is the weather. like katie has been telling us all morning, coastal flooding expected for many communities down the shore. >> still not good news for folks recovering from super storm sandy, the flooding just the last thing they need. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins just atlantic city where the winds and rain just battering more than just the board there, battering our reporter, photographer, too, good morning. >> reporter: erika, ukee, good morning, absolutely the wind has pick up once again, here, every so often there is a lull, and i think finally this nor'easter is giving up. no, not at all. take a look at the wind right now, i have to holdup my hood, my pants are sticking to my legs because it is just so wind you out here this morning. as katie has been saying all

morning long, we could see 45 to 50-mile per hour wind gusts you can see the tall grasses along the dunes whipping back and forth. i will say at this point it is not raining nearly as hard as it once was this morning. don't get me wrong. it is still steadily raining here in atlantic city but not pouring like it was. so maybe just little bit after lull in the action there. if you take a look at the video, you can see what we've been dealing with all morning long here in atlantic city we were coming down the atlantic city expressway, we pull over, just to take a look at the -- just look at the surroundings, the flags, were whipping in the wind, there was a lot of ponding on the roadway here, much like you're seeing it right now. it has been a very lonely morning out here on the boardwalk, usually we see a whole lot of people walking, running, you know, get that exercise out of the way before work. we're not seeing that at all this morning. just me, myself and loan seagull out here, who is having fun day in the wet and in the puddles.

mother with ties to our area. thirty-six year old marie, and two of her young children, were killed when private jet slammed into her gaithersburg home yesterday morning. now, she is originally from brick township, new jersey. police say they found marie cradling her three month old and one month old inside that home. an eyewitness says she became concerned after hearing the jet make sputtering sounds over the neighborhood. >> there was a big explosion, so it was like a boom, and by then the flames were just so high, then there was big mushroom effect of smoke, and it just burst into flames. >> marie's husband and daughter were not home at the time. three other on the corporate jet from north care line an also died. the ntsb located the recorders and leading the investigation. >> 8:09 right now. and there is much more still ahead on the "cw philly". >> past use of torture techniques due out today.

>> story started in basement, spread to first and second floors, firefighters had the flames under control in about an hour. there is no word right now on the identity of that firefighter, except to say, she was a 11 year vet ran of the fire department.

now, also, keeping our eye on the storm, we want to check in with katie and begin traffic and weather together. >> we will actually take you out to texas, guysment look at this view; is this not amazing? sea of clouds. actually looking at downtown dallas right here, where the fog has socked them in in damn as. and, you know, it definately is completely different story depending on your location, what you will find out there. we bring it back here to our local area. you're not talking about any fog at all. rather, visibility, reduced because of this mess. so, out in dallas, and actually across good chunk of the central united states, we have quieter weather by comparison, certainly visibility issues, but for us all about this developing and intensifying nor'easter where we have very heavy rain falling through new jersey, still, enough cold air on the back side of the actual storm, that we're still finding little bit every mixing taking place. but that said, sun is up. we've seen little bit of increase on the thermometer reading, not as much mixing taking place, just keep an eye on the thermometer in your

car. that's the bottom line here. that will would be the best advice i could give you f it is hovering near 32 degrees, you might have few slick spots. but otherwise, it does appear so the temperatures are climbing. winter weather advisories have actually been taken away, been allowed to expire through southeast most pennsylvania. here's your form storm. basically the storm rides up the coastline. that's what happens with a nor'easter, running into high dome of pressure acts as roadblock, so it can't go anywhere. even though we're seeing the brunt of the storm right now, we will be left with lingering showers, of rain, even wet snow, for few more days, if you can believe it. meanwhile, coastal flood warnings are in effect, weaver winter storm warnings in effect, huge mix variety pack every things going on here, but i had to take you out to the shore points. look at this wave action. look at the flooding. you can see it many doing up here. moving in on the sand dunes out at the boardwalk plaza, so coastal flooding and absolute concern for us.

send it back over to the studio. >> thank you, justin, i'll give you advice headed back into philadelphia, you don't want to take the ben franklin bridge, we will check it out. but right here, 422, trooper road, the eastbound lanes here, really creating quite a bit of a delay here. see shiny roadways there, as well, eastbound toward the king every prussia area exactly what you will see some small delays there. now, major delays, so justin, don't take the ben franklin bridge, won't get you anywhere quickly. so this is from the philly side. so the westbound lanes there, completely stacked and slow going, headed. >> autumn road, a lot of road closures this morning, meeting house road your alternate there, now, set of traffic lights malfunctioning at haldeman avenue and roosevelt boulevard. and another one on kelly drive, at midvale avenue. with police activity on the scene trying to direct traffic around the area. currently, about hour and 19 minute delays at the philadelphia international airport. do you want to check and see if your airline is affected by

updating breaking news, philadelphia firefighter was killed battling a fire along the 1600 block of middleton street in west oaklane. the victim is the first female firefighter killed in the line every duty in the city of philadelphia. we're told she was a 11 year veteran of the fire department. so far her identity has not been released. no word on the cause of this fire. we will have much more on talk philly at noon and at cbsphilly.com. >> all right, also, on this nor'easter we're having, let's check with katie right now. >> certainly, ukee, been storm system that's been with us pretty much all day or all morning at least, looks like it will be stuck with us for quite some time, so slow to retreat. let's take you out there, storm scan3 shows variety of pack, heavy rain, gusty wind at the shore, already seeing some very high tides, coming in here at some of the field cameras, down the shore.

mix is more of the story, the further north and west you go, actually lull in precipitation across places like delaware. so dependent where you are starting your day and what you'll find. finding heaviest pockets of rain, in philadelphia, high hits 42, tonight will be additional showers dropping down to 34 overnight, but no snow for philly this time. you got to go pretty far north and west to find it. meanwhile leading into tomorrow, thursday, we will likely still see some lingering showers of rain, maybe some wet snow, but the brunt of the storm is happening as we speak, and anything that's left over, it is just that, few leftovers. looking into friday, we may finally actually catch completely dry day. looks as though saturday will be the same, just on the chilly side, highs at best into the four's at that point. >> thank you, katie. we can't stress enough to you to just slow down, because even if there is a lot of volume out there, still really slippery. the blue route around route one, northbound lanes here, some slow going there, and we will check/the rest of the majors there, slam on 95 southbound, from wood half

>> out to walt hunter, update on breaking news, philadelphia firefighter killed in the line every cute. >> i walt joins us now at einstein medical center where the mayor and commissioner spoke earlier this morning. walt? >> a sad scene, taking place, right now, at the albert einstein medical center. here, traffic is just block off, and in just a few moment, a police honor guard will escort the body of the fallen firefighter, from the hospital, here, it was here, this morning, in the early morning hours, fire officials, firefighters, rush here, in desperate effort to save the life of the female firefighter, the first female firefighter to die in the line of duty, we'll show you a video where the fire was, in west oaklane, the 1600 block every middleton street, fire raging in the basement after home there, the firefighter, who died, going into the basement with a hose line trying to stop the fire, something happens in that

basement. the fire sources say apparently flashes over that means sudden ignition of flames. there is a scramble to get out of the basement, she activates her emergency warning device, they bring her here, to the hospital, after rescuing her from the home. and she is pronounced dead. officials, including the mayor, had a press conference here in the early morning hours, here's a little of what they had to say at this sad time. >> firefighter, made the ultimate sacrifice. >> this would be the first female firefighter to die in the line every duty in the city of philadelphia. so we have two families, that suffered a great lost. >> and right now, again, an honor guard, about to bring the body of the fallen firefighter from the einstein medical center, many questions

still unanswered, he can accurately what happened in the basement. why was the firefighter trapped? those flames? she was a 11 year veteran, experienced fire fight her work with several engine companies around the city, this morning, answering a call at this home, the fire controlled in just 39 minutes, but during those 39 minutes, a flash-over in the basement, the flames overtaking the firefighter, and she becomes the first philadelphia firefighter to die in the line every duty. we're going to stay on line for few more months, here, you see, live, the combination of the honor guard, bringing the body of the fallen firefighter from einstein medical center, the fullest court coming in just a few minute, we'll have much more on the firefighter, her history and the development on the story including what led to this tragic death when we join you later on "eyewitness news" for now, liver from the einstein medical center walt hunter, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> walt, we'll try to take those pictures as soon as they happen. please keep us posted, thank you. >> other big story this morning, powerful nor'easter

churning up high wind and rough surf as it makes its way up the coast. >> "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us in atlantic city, high tide about 30 minute away. she has more on how things are going there, jan? >> ukee, erika, good morning, high tide is right around 9:00 this morning, that's when we are really going to be keeping our eyes on water levels, and possible flooding in the area. but right now, the story is about this win. katie has been saying it all morning long, possibly 45-mile per hour wind gusts, 50-mile per hour wind gusts, here, i don't know if i felt anything quite that strong, but i definitely have been pushed around this morning you can see very lonely morning for us, here at cbs-3, "eyewitness news", along the boardwalk, only us, and couple of worker braving this weather, but you can see how windy it is, with that tall grass, being push around. >> flags haven't stopped whipping all morning, the scene along the atlantic city expressway as we made our way

montgomery drive off ramp, where you can see it is actually closed off right now, police escort situation happening right here all ramps, closed, between city and girard, as you can see this escort, situation, righty traveling on through a lot of police on the scene, ambulance, again from montgomery drive, only cameras at the time where we do have shot of the police blocking off the onramp here. but between city and girard, there is no access to the eastbound schuylkill expressway. the westbound lanes are currently open. so you can see it passes on through. these ramps will open again, and then we can get traffic on flowing by. but all around that area, there is going to be a loft residual delay due to everyone being stopped on the outside of the ramps, not allowing any access to the schuylkill expressway currently. ninety-five at allegheny, southbound lanes headed toward the center city area completely slammed, all of them just stop and g you can see strange of brake lights there. the northbound lanes moving along just fine. erika, ukee, back over to you.
