>> ♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> now at 10:00 the first woman firefighter ever killed in the line of duty in philadelphia and tonight the city remembers a woman who made the ultimate sacrifice to help others. good evening to you, i'm jessica dean. chris may is off tonight. joyce craig-lewis was an 11 year veteran of the fire department. she was also a mother who leaves behind two children. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live in lawncrest where a vigil was held in her honor tonight. >> reporter: jessica this is joyce craig-lewis' home away from home.

she spent many days here before she headed out to fire engine 64 in north philadelphia and you can see tonight the black bunting on the firehouse door tells you one thing, people inside are mourning. flowers mark the spot where philadelphia firefighter joyce craig-lewis often started each day on the job. the mood inside engine 64 somber as colleagues, friends and even complete strangers stood in the drive way to pay their respects. >> i worked with her for the last three years and she loved doing the job. >> reporter: lieutenant benny hutchins was one of about 50 who prayed for lewis' family. he tells "eyewitness news" he was proud to call her a colleague and friend. >> she continually always was outstanding and doing everything she could to make sure somebody was safe or property was saved and we miss her. >> reporter: hutchins says he was in shock when he found out his friend died. she was fighting a fire at this home on west oak lane

early tuesday morning. >> we got an emergency activation. >> reporter: fire officials say lewis was one of the first on scene to try and control the fire to the basement. "eyewitness news" has learned at some point the commander on scene told firefighters to leave the building but lewis never made it out. >> we conducted first aid, cpr on the scene and en route to the hospital. upon arrival to the hospital, she was pronounced. >> tragedy like this is just shocking and very, very painful. >> reporter: as fire officials investigate the first line of duty death of a female firefighter in the city, the people who saw her every day say they would do anything to change what happened. >> she didn't want joe paterno get in the way of anything. she wanted to prove the point she continually did that. >> reporter: that bunting has been up for several hours and it's not going to go anywhere for the next few days. fire commissioner derrick sawyer says that a full

investigation is under way to try to find out exactly what happened. she leaves behind a 16-year-old and a 16 month old. we are live in north philadelphia, david spunt, "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the cw philly. >> david, thank you. we still have our eye on a big storm tonight, this as the jersey shore begins to dry out from flooding rain. strong winds still whipping up the waves in atlantic city and communities all along the coast tonight. there is also some beach erosion. earlier today tidal flooding turned roads into rivers. emergency crews were on stand by to rescue drivers. the storm left streets under water in monmouth county. this was the scene in sea bright. firefighters rescued several people from flooded out cars. some of the homes in the borough are still empty because of hurricane sandy and residents say they're tired of flooding. meteorologist kathy orr here now with what's left to come of this storm. kathy. >> well, right now we're not talking about rain or flooding.

now we're talking about the cold that's coming and changing some of this over to snow believe it or not. as our low continues to move toward new england on the backside of this we have all that cold air being pulled down in places like the poconos already seeing some snow. and we do expect accumulating snow there overnight tonight where we do have a winter weather advisory in effect. so, for the poconos cold enough for snow with northwesterly winds at about 18 miles an hour. temperatures have cooled back down into the 30's. elsewhere we're in the 40's and we'll be falling overnight but in philadelphia just some light rain and drizzle development have that winter weather advisory in effect until 6 o'clock tomorrow morning for snow accumulating and ice in the poconos. this is a look what the what we expect there. not just wet snow but a little bit of ice, some icy patches on the road if you're headed towards the poconos with winds gusting to 35 miles an hour there's even a possibility of some power outages. tomorrow morning temperatures will be rising through the 30's with wind though it will feel like it is in the 20's tomorrow morning. some rain and even some wet snow showers.

we'll talk about the possibility of that even in philadelphia come tomorrow with that seven-day forecast a little bit later on in the broadcast. for now we'll send it back you to jess. >> kathy thanks. new tonight an armed robbery in bensalem bucks county. surveillance video just into "eyewitness news" shows two men, one armed way knife the other with a pipe. police say they first tied up employees and assaulted a customer at coin and collectibles store on street road. they then used a hammer to smash display cases. they got away with a number of valuable items. police did find this knife at the scene this afternoon. details about the robbery still unfolding at this hour. we'll have much more for you on "eyewitness news" at 11:00. the reward for information about missing west chester university student shane montgomery now stands at $65,000. his family says that new money came from private donations. the 21-year-old was last seen leaving kildare's irish

pub thanksgiving morning. investigators piece together more clues about that deadly plane crash in maryland that killed six people. the flight data recorder shows no indication of engine trouble before that aircraft crashed into a home belonging to marie game mel. game mel is originally from brick township, new jersey. she was killed along with two of her children and three others on the plane. last week three delaware churches burned down and now three arrests. the churches are all within several miles of each other in the town of felton. yesterday investigators caught up with joseph skochelak and alex harrington jr. they have been charged with arson and burglary. an atm probably the last thing you would expect to see in the middle of the woods but a couple of hunters stumbled across this one in rockland township berks county. authorities are now tracing its serial numbers to see just where it came from. no word so far on if any money

was still inside. the so-called torture report released today alleges that post 9/11 cia end tear gays methods were brutal and ineffective. the cia claims the report flawed. craig boswell shows us what was inside the 500 page report. >> this is what it looks like. >> reporter: senator dianne feinstein says review of a secret program of terror suspects after 9/11 is too important to shelf. >> they describe brutal around the clock interrogations. >> reporter: the democratic senator's committee carried out the five-year review concluding the cia routinely went beyond what was legally allowable enhanced interrogation techniques weren't effective in getting information and the agency systemically lied about the effectiveness of the program in order to keep it going.

memorial and museum. the couple left a bouquet of flowers an note. it was signed william and katherine. they took a guided tour of the museum taking time to study the exhibits and also read about the victims of the terror attack. and tonight the couple dazzled in their last stop of the u.s. tour for them, a black tie scholarship fundraiser for their alma mater saint andrews university in scotland. he wore a tucks she wore an off the shoulder dress. the reception was held at the metropolitan museum of art. the university is where they first meted. amazon wants to play let's make a deal. the online shopping giant is rolling out a new option today that could save you money by allowing you to bid for some items. make an offer option for certain items like fine arts, collectibles and coins. this will allow customers to haggle with sellers while sellers can choose which items they want to put up for bidding. take this lesean mccoy signed football. you can either pay $149 or make an offer of something less. >> it doesn't seem like a really good idea for the seller, yeah, because they won't really make a lot of profit. >> reporter: not so says online retail expert david. he says this could be a great way for a seller he to make a sale if customers think they may have priced an item too high. >> instead of having a yes-no choice they can offer something that's somewhere in the middle and then the seller doesn't have to necessarily lose the sale. they still have a sector chance. >> reporter: he says amazon could be trying to compete with other web sites like ebay but this option is very unique with ebay you start way base price and bid against

marlton the temperature 44 degrees. the pressure is steady and we are looking at a high relative humidity still a lot of drizzle and actually some fog out there as well. over on the pennsylvania side we're looking at temperatures in the 30's in many locations. barbara is saying in willow grove winds are lightning up a little bit, the temperature 39 degrees. today we had an inch of rain in willow grove. but higher accumulations, of course, in south jersey. now, let's take a look what captain chuck pressler has to say in perkasie. right now temperature is falling and it's a cold 38 to the north and west of philadelphia. if you would like to be an eyewitness weather watcher join the team. it's going to be a very busy winter. it's easy to join. go to cbsphilly.com/watchers. we are seeing the rain changing over to snow to the north. this is a picture from jack frost/big boulder. we have some snow on our screen here but you can see the little house back there, the chair lift house. lots of snow that will be falling across the poconos

tonight. those big plump juicy flakes if temperatures are right around freezing there. expecting about 1 to 3 inches of snow. on storm scan3 our storm is pulling away but ever so slowly. this is a classic nor'easter. with a nor'easter as it moves up the eastern seaboard you get that northeasterly wind. it's usually very slow, a drawn out process battering the coast as we have seen with flooding and beach erosion and bringing rain and even snow and this is the case tonight. you can see the heavy snow through new york and new england. on the backside of this pulling that canadian air down and changing the rain even in the poconos over to some wet snow. and that will progress to the south, even through the lehigh valley during the overnight. the good news is there's not a lot of moisture out there to change over to to snow. right now in philadelphia, its 42. we have that some light rain and drizzle. allentown 41, millville 41. you can see to the north and west buffalo new york temperatures still above freezing so even anything we see in the philadelphia area tomorrow would just be a wet snowflake. a winter weather advisory is in effect in the poconos until

6 o'clock tomorrow morning for snow and the possibility of an icy mix there. for the rest of us we're just going to be seeing quieter conditions tonight but in that advisory area some icy patches and gusty winds, maybe even scattered power outages due to all the rain the wind and now the snow. future snow amounts shows we'll see a little bit of moisture through philadelphia tomorrow, a possibility of a tenth of an inch of snow, that will be on the grassy surfaces but that would make it our first measurable snow of the season. in trenton .2 in allentown up to an inch on the grassy surface and in the poconos you could see up to 3-inches of wet snow tomorrow. as the storm pulls away we'll be seeing a gradual improvement late wednesday into thursday, still seeing some very windy conditions with winds gusting to about 30 miles an hour even during the day on thursday. overnight look for a low of 35 degrees during the day tomorrow some rain and wet snow showers, windy conditions the high 39. on the exclusive eyewitness weather seven-day forecast we really don't get out of the woods so to speak until the
