from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs-3, "eyewitness news". and developing right now, a person of interest is questioned after several attacks on female college student. we're on location and live as police put local campuses on alert. good morning, everyone, it is friday, december 12th, i'm ukee washington. >> i'm erika von tiehl. we start things off first though with traffic and weather together. katie, out on that skydeck, umbrella-free, and svelt tore ya right here in the studio. good morning, ladies? good morning, yes. you know, thankfully i can be umbrella free. pesky nor'easter is finally, finally, retreating. it has been almost an entire week's worth basically, of the impact from that storm across the northeastern us. but now, we can safely say that we are this is the clear, officially, but this is still a transition day. so, few impacts to discuss. we take you out first and for

most to storm scan, look at the nice wide zoom. that will show that you there is still rotation with the actual storm itself. man has it lost a lot of it moisture. so, it is beginning to finally tear down, and break apart, and that leaves us with just some clouds. we do still have quite a bit of cloud cover here, at least over the skydeck, and, pretty much everywhere else as well. but it is dry. we take it. thirty-six is how or rather the actual air temperature, but probably want to knock another 5 degrees off any time the win blows, will make it feel chillier than the thermometer reads at any point today. the thing is even though we are going to feel the breeze out here today, it is not as harsh of a winds as it has been in recent daysment temperatures meanwhile still below averaging by handful every degrees, low 40's expected down the shore as well as in the city. go up to the mountains, might still be lingering flurry, that will be it for everybody, and you can expect at least little bit of blue sky out there today. only get brighter from here, weekend looking pretty good. more details on that coming up. vittoria? >> thank you so much, katie. good morning, everyone, i

received a dwight, i have to give shout out to justin, hit me up on twitter, what's going on on 95 northbound? we investigated it, and we found out, on the northbound side of 95, as you make your way at cottman, justin not too far from bridge, so running right into the delay that lies behind this incident scene. it is a multiple vehicle accident, compromising left-hand lane, of course in the construction zone, where you only have two lanes anyway. so, it is one lane squeezing by, as you'll notice, it is one, two, three, four, five, six close to seven vehicles involved in this crash. please give yourself more time. stay with us here on cbs-3 or cbs-3 on the "cw philly". we will continue to keep you updated on that. ben franklin bridge slight delays headed down towards eighth and vine, but i'm going to head back to the track center and continue to investigate that incident on 95, i'll go back to the desk now. >> see you shortly, thank you. developing right now, man in custody accused of attack ago woman near the penn campus. >> now philadelphia police are investigating if he assaulted other female student in university city. carabeo, joins us now at southwest detective, to bring us up to date on that investigation. good morning. >> reporter: erika, ukee, good morning. student in university city have been on edge all week after learning a number of college students were either assaulted or robbed around campus just in this past week alone. now a five a year old man is in custody here at southwest detectives this morning, 55 year old man, caught in the act of assaulting a university of pennsylvania student. and now they're work to go see if he's linked to four other cases. the scene of the most recent attack. forty-first and pine streets where university of pennsylvania grad student is hit in the head and nearly robbed. >> it is terrifying. it is not a great feeling knowing you cannot be safe in your own neighborhood. >> scary, and, i mean, i would advise caution. >> it is just one of many attacks on u pen and drexel students this week. the latest happened around 6:30, thursday evening, police say, a woman is walking alone on pine street, when a 55 year

old man hits her with a bike lock. >> strikes her in the back of the head with a bike lock. and demands her purse. non-uniform officers in the area because of recent rash of robberies that have been occurring. they see the offender, dragging the victim, about 50 yards, they immediately jump out of the car and they're able to rescue her. >> as all end taken into custody, now police believe this man could be linked to other cases. earlier on thursday, there were two broad daylight assaults, at drexel university. on monday, 23 year old woman was sexually assaulted at 47th and chestnut, and on saturday, another woman was attacked, but escaped her attacker on 41st and sam some. >> at this point we have him definitively linked to four jobs, two from today, that occurred on drexel's campus, with the indecent assaults, by clothing, and obviously the robbery today where he's seen by officers, grabbing this young lady, pulling her down the street, and robs her. >> now all five of these

victims were women, walking along all college student, now the philadelphia police department as well as drexel, and u pen police have all stepped up patrols in light of these recent assault, again, though, one man now in custody, five year old police say caught in the act of assault that university every pennsylvania student. he most certainly will be charged in that case, but police are still working to link him to the other four cases. reporting live outside of southwest deck, jan carabeo, "eyewitness news" on the "cw" fill. >> i all right, jan, thank you. new this morning search for suspect in deadly shooting along the 2200 block of bellmore street in kensington. a 24 year old plan was hit by gunfire, three times, and died at temple hospital. a 35 year old man inside a nearby mini-van was also wounded and is now in critical condition. authority say there are cameras in that area, and they're examining that video for possible clues. new this morning, deadly crash under investigation in a kingsessing neighborhood.

eyewitnesses told police that the driver ran a red light. that car then flipped over, burst into flames, landing against a building. this happened around midnight just past the intersection of lindberg boulevard and grays ferry avenue. the 26 year old victim died at the scene. >> bartrum high school is open as scheduled this morning, even though steam pipe burst inside overnight. it happened around midnight we're told in the school's basement. officials say it was under control in just a few minutes f so once again, school is open today. well, police hope you can help them locate 58 year old susan johnson who has been missing since december 5th. that's when johnson was last seen at her home in gloucester township camden county. investigators say, johnson is five-two, about 120 pounds, if you have seen susan johnson, please, contact the authorities right away. >> philadelphia police are looking for a gunman who shot a 13 year old boy in his wissinoming home. investigators say, that he was sitting in his dining room, on the 4,000 block of crest ton street, two men tried to rob a 34 year old manhattan on the

porch. man ran into the house and tried to shut the door. shots were fired through the door, hitting that teen. >> the 34 year old resident was able to slam the front door, on these two perpetrators, while shots were being fired. at least one of the shots went through the front door. boy on the first floor in the living room at the time when he got struck in the symptom. that the teenager now in stable condition. >> philadelphia firefighter joyce craig will be burried this weekend. the first female fire fighters to die in the line every duty tuesday, fighting house fire here in west oaklane, when she was trapped in the basement. investigators are trying to pinpoint how that fire started. craig was with the fire department for 11 years. you viewing is this evening, from 6:00 in the 9:00 at beech letter brothers funeral services on north broad street. it resumes there tomorrow morning, from 8:00 until 10:00 when the funeral will

>> would your full winter storm already battered northern california and washington state. >> while the rain is helping drought stricken california, the massive flood something prompting evacuations, terry okita joins us from glendora, california, residents preparing for i guess mudslides. hi, terry, good morning. >> reporter: hi, ukee, erika. we are getting it now. you know, we're in glenn door, a california, which is about 30 miles east of los angeles, and, because after wild fire that happened last january, it basically ate up a lot of the vegetation that was on the foot hills here, and so now, this area is very vulnerable

to mudslides, and flooding, and that's why a lot of the residents in this neighborhood have four to -- fortified their homes with sandbags, concrete barriers. >> destructive winds, heavy rain, already pounded washington, and northern california. now, southern california is in the midst of the storm. residents in glendora stacked sandbags late into the night, to help protect their homes for potential floodingment mike at slay ton has experienced this before. >> we had a lot of, a lot of rain, water starting to back up through the doors, pretty scar. >> i city officials ordered mandatory evacuations for residents near wild fire damaged areas. in case the storm triggers mudslides. >> doesn't mean we go into the residences or force them to leave. but we will strongly advise that for their safety, they should leave their residence. >> in ventura county, some are waiting it out. >> we have all of our stuff together if we need to evacuate f they call man ma dorey, or if we do feel the weather get too long bad, we'll go.

>> emergency crews including police, search and rescue, k9 units, helicopters, and swift water rescue teams have, all been called in this morning, ready for the wind and rain. the san francisco bay area bore the brunt of it yesterday. strong winds, knocked treason to homes and onto power lines. leaving hundreds of thousands of customers in the dark. the rain is helping alleviate three years of historic drought in california. so weather definitely taking a turn for the worse, since we last spoke with you about an hour ago. the high winds, which have been a concern, they've been gusting for the last half hour or so. and obviously the rain has really pick up. it is a constant rain, that's supposed to last for the next several hours. but it still will not be significant enough to tackle that drought that we have been experiencing for so long. reporting live from glendora, terry okita, ukee, erika, back to you. >> once again have, people listened to the warnings to get out of there to evacuate?

>> you know what? to be honest, most people have not. we came here about 10:00 o'clock, that's when the evacuation orders were put into place. and, there were cars in the driveway, most of the homes, most of the homes had christmas lights on, or lights in their homes on, and the resident that we spoke with, were quite a few every them that say we won't leave. they're kind of used to this, been through wild fire evacuations, and two other flooding evacuations in the last year, so a lot of people feel like they're going just stay in their homes and weather. >> i hope they stay safe. >> conditions seem to be getting worse as terry was speaking, all right, terry, be safer. talk to you soon. >> time is 7:00; traffic and weather together. here's katie. >> we take you back here across the east coast. we obviously dealing with the w our own storm system, but left a lot of fresh powder out at jack frost, big boulder and all of the other ski resorts in the poconos. lifts are working, just checking them out, making sure things are all good to go.

if you have ski weekend planned, you picked a good one, obviously got the fresh powder out there on the slopes, also going to be clearing out, and brightening up in time for some great wet they are weekends, up in the mountains. but, let's go to nice nationwide map. of course just heard the report on the storm system, out over california, you can see, the very heavy rain, associated with that, quiet weather, generally speaking, across the entire mid section of the united state. what happens to this storm next, well, that may ends up eventually impacting us. so let's take you on a tour here, future weather, as we move forward, you also need to pay attention to what the jet stream does. jet stream of course helps to not only separate cold and milder air masses from each other, but it also really helps to steer storm systems. and by sunday, at 8:00, the storm will be smack dab over center. us. but looks like the jet stream is going to be nudged to the north, to allow the storm to also trap to the north with high pressure still on our side here locally. that means, the next few days, looking good. granted still have some clouds cover out there today it, will still be on the brisk side,

bit every winds between systems, but dry day, we will take it, looking at the weekends, temperatures continue to climate least hands full of degrees with every passing day, bodes well for the eagles game i might add. also army navy down in baltimore, too. so looking like good weekends all things considered. i think this will be a pattern that lasts us right through monday, too. so nice long well deserved break coming our way. >> got that right. hey, young laidy? >> good morning, you know, folks are not catching a break on 95. do they ever? you know what, you're right about that. >> ninety-five northbound, if you are traveling, approaching the area of cottman avenue, seven vehicle crash, seven vehicle crash, and i think, actually, the more that i continue to look at the shot, and i'm going to walk over to the wall here and point this out to you. so the last time i checked it was seven vehicles. so one, two, three, four, five, six, yep, there it is, seven. seven vehicles blocking the left-hand lane. northbound 95, not too far away from cottman avenue. so one lane of traffic is getting by. and the delay that lies behind

this is serious. so, anyone traveling in that northbound direction, do you want to give yourself more time if you are trying to make your way into far northeast philadelphia, bucks county, maybe trying to get to the turnpike that way. so 11 miles per hour on the southbound side of 95, seeing delays there, 16 is your average on the schuylkill. still looking okay on 476. not looking great however on 422, eastbound we are seeing delays getting worse, right around the area of trooper. we do have that accident however in the northeast, this is involving a tractor-trailer, more details on this in just a little bit. but northbound roosevelt boulevard at devereaux, try to avoid that intersection if you can, also, traffic light malfunction, the northeast, at the roosevelt boulevard and commonly. no delays however for mass transit. erika? >> all right, thank you, vet tore y police pursuit of alleged carjack nerve new jersey, has ended in maryland. state troopers arrested trent tally just before he enters the for the motorcycle henry tunnel in baltimore. now, investigators say, that he stole a 2,013 kia soul from mental health facility in mt.

holly. police use that car's gps to track down the suspect, and they boxed in that stolen car. >> not to -- now to stands off in san diego. father arrested days after he vanished with his four sons and his wife. her body was found in the trunk of a car. cbs correspondent danielle nottingham has details. >> california police surrounded a black sedan connect today an amber alert for four missing boys in san diego county. >> swat truck just pulled up to the scene. swat truck just pulled up in front. >> second swat vehicle pulled up behind the car on elevated overpass. at the wheel, was daniel perez, the boy's father. the whole family, including the children's mother, has been missing since friday. >> orders were given for all of the occupant to come out of the car. >> there you are. right door is open. it sting outside. phone to up his ear. >> he got out of the car with two children, officers moved in, and tackled him, when it looked like he was going to try to jump.

>> he was shot with one bean bag round, non-lethal. he went down to the grounds, immediately taken into custody by sheriff's deputies in all four boys, ages six to 11, are safe and with police. officers were able to locate perez using low jack installed in his car. police confirmed the boys mother, erika perez, was found dead in the trunk of another vehicle belonging to the family. relatives say the couple's marriage was unstable, police report a history of domestic violence in the home. danielle nottingham, "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". former super model beverly johnson has joined the list of bill cosby accusers saying the comedian drugged her in the 1980s. in a interview with vanity fair, johnson details an encounter she said she had with cosby while auditioning for the cosby show. johnson says cosby gave her a cappuccino and claimed she was woozy, that her speech became slurred, and the room began to spin. johnson said she wrote the essay after seeing fellow

good morning, everyone, i'm ukee washington, let's get that friday forecast with fehlinger. katie is over in the weather center i finally come bearing some good, yep, come bearing some very much better weather news. i mean, just looking so much nicer for us. out there today still is transition day, so still finds some clouds out, there but there are breaks in that cloud cover, as the day goes on for at least some sunshine, it is still a little brisk, too, but not as harsh of a wind. high hits 40 degrees today. we drop back down to seasonable 31 tonight, still few clouds overhead, continuing to brighten one time. so the weekends looking good if you have got any holiday errands to check off your list, and it is also looking good for the army navy game and the eagles, that said, nice day as welcoming up on monday, maybe shower by tuesday, but otherwise, this is pretty nice and quiet

jan carabeo joins us from southwest detective to tell us more about it, jan? >> ukee, erika, caught in the act. police now have a five year old man in custody here, at southwest detectives, they say, for assaulting a university of pennsylvania graduate student last night, and now, they're looking into seeing whether he's linked to four other assaults, on college students, and in university sit, alone, this week. now, this was the most recent attack. it happened yesterday at 6:30, at 41st and pine streets, near the campus of u pen. police say a woman was walking alone, on pine street, when she was hit from behind with a bike lock. the suspect then demanded her purse. fortunately, there were police officers already in the area, because of the other recent robberies. they saw the suspect dragging this woman down the street, so they jumped into rescue her, and now this was just the latest incident however police believe the man could be linked to two broad daylight assault on drexel university student, yesterday, also 23 year old woman was sexually

if you are traveling in the southbound direction, 95, you're already slow because of rush hour out of the northeast. eighteen is your average on the schuylkill. traveling in the 40's on 476. we also have traffic light malfunction in the northeast, roosevelt boulevard at commonly. no cross-traffic so you will need to maneuver around that, also, in new jersey, brace road, at mounds lane, careful if you're not too far from the cherry hill area, erika? >> $5,000 reward is available if you help police catch the suspects wanted for three armed robberies, in ben cell em, plymouth meeting and schuylkill township. men seen here on surveillance video, robbed luke oil on street road, on november 18th, and liberty gas station, in plymouth meeting on december 2nd. investigators believe the same suspects beat a store clerk at citco in schuylkill township, and stole customaries honda accord on december 7th. if you have any information, on the suspect, contact police. an update now on story we brought you earlier this week. police in bucks county, issue
