>> from the cbs broadcast center if philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> it was due or die for the birds and they came up short. the eagles lose in washington with a playoff berth hanging in the balance. good evening, everyone, i'm natasha brown. thanks so much for joining us. this was a brutal loss for the birds who needed to beat the redskins on the road at least to keep pace with the rival cowboys but when it mattered most the eagles could not get it done today. sports director beasley reece is in the sat center with more p. a tough loss, beas. >> that it was. turnovers grounded the eagles again. they had a chance to put pressure other cowboys in the race for the nfc east but it was desean jackson and rg iii making enough plays to beat the birds. game tied in the final two minutes, eagles with the ball, mark sanchez throws behind

one slim chance at the post season. birds hope the giants, hope redskins beat the cowboys in the last game of the season. i'll have more and more highlights flatted sports. >> allall right, beas we'll see you soon, chat more about this. also this evening dozens take over our area's largest mall to voice their outrage on this very busy shopping weekend before christmas. they staged a die in calling for an end of police brutality in the wake of grand jury decisions in ferguson missouri and new york city. matt rivers has details from king of prussia mall. >> reporter: crowds and christmas music drummed out by protesters at the king of prussia mall. some shoppers approved while others shook their heads. >> hands up don't shoot. >> reporter: at the protesters chanting black lives matter saturday afternoon. we shot awful it off our cell phones and the crowds moved from spot to spot. the first die in lasted four and a half minutes, the second, 10 minutes and the third 15. they marched in between each

one. >> video is a little shakier than normal that's because mall security wouldn't let us bring our cameras inside. the king of prussia mall the latest high profile location. just a few weeks ago we saw it after a philadelphia eagles game. saturday about a thousand miles away in minnesota hundreds gathered at the mall of america to protest what they called systemic police brutality. they were umped to leave and when they didn't police in right gear moved in and forced the protesters out, all of it most full peaceful. kids really who marched saturday afternoon organizers saying it was important for the youth to get involved. >> it was a way to give our young people a voice. >> reporter: a message echoed by those a few hours later at the king of prussia mall. a peaceful protest way consistent message. >> this is a remark on what is

a journey what goes on in this country. get involved. >> reporter: matt rivers, "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> and protesters from ferguson, missouri joined those angry about the death of tamir rice in cleveland today. he's a 12-year-old boy who was holding a fake gun when a police officer shot and killed him outside of a recreation center last month. they then marched to a police station and held several other rallies throughout the day and into the evening. turning to our weather now, skies were clear on this saturday night. "eyewitness news" at philadelphia's christmas village. that's where folks were putting the finishing touches on those holiday shopping lists. justin drabick has the first forecast for us. hey, justin. >> hey, natasha. it is feeling like christmas outside right now. we're talking about cold temperatures but at least the forecast stays dry through the rest of the week. if you have shopping plans tomorrow, looks okay especially traveling across the delaware valley. look at the temperatures this

hour, already down to 34 in philadelphia, 20's in south jersey, 26 degrees in millville this hour, 24 mount pocono. we're sitting at the freezing mark in allentown. also freezing in quakertown, willow grove a very cold 28 degrees. looking at storm scan3, a few clouds around. i'll call it partly cloudy through the overnight. little storm system passing well to our south and east. we'll stay dry through the overnight hours into your sunday. so, tomorrow morning's temperatures are cold. many suburbs are going to be down into the 20's to about 30 trees here in center city. we will see some sunshine tomorrow, not full sun and we'll rebound to the low 40's. that's still cool for this time of year. it's below avenue a at the shore only near 40 degrees. cold in the poconos with a high of 30. also tomorrow astronomical winter does arrive at 6:03 in the evening, just over nine hours of daylight and our average high temperature is in the low 40's. enjoy the dry conditions. we're talking about rain coming up in the forecast for the holiday week. details coming up in a few more minutes.

natasha. >> justin thank you. developing now a deadly ambush, two new york city police officers were shot and killed inside their patrol car today. the gunmen fled and took his own life. reporter wendy gillette has more. >> reporter: this is the police car two new york city officers were sitting in when a man walked up and shot them execution style saturday afternoon. >> they were quite simply assassinated. >> reporter: police commissioner william bratton says the suspect identified as 28-year-old ismail brensly fired from the passenger side striking both officers in the head. >> officer liu and officer ramos never had the opportunity to draw their weapons. they may never have seen their assailant. >> reporter: the suspect ran to a nearby subway station where he shot and killed himself. police say he was on the run after shooting and injuring his ex-girlfriend in baltimore saturday morning. he posted from her instagram account just three hours before killing the officers.

the caption reads i'm putting wings on pigs today. they take one of ours, let's take two of theirs. shoot the police, rip eric garner, rip mike brown. this may be my final post. the shooting in front of the bedford-stuyvesant happened in front of a housing department two minutes after nypd received a fax warning that he may be heading to new york. >> every new yorker should too feel they were attacked. our entire city was attacked by his heinous suspect. >> reporter: the officers were on duty from a different precinct assisting in a special initiative to fight crime in the housing project. wendy gillette for "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> well, tonight the community gathered to remember the victims of the killing spreely in montgomery county. prayers were said for nicole stone and five members of her family in harleysville tonight. they were killed by nicole's ex-husband bradley stone at

three locations in montgomery county on monday. stone was found dead in the woods near his home in pennsburg on tuesday. the cause of his death, it's still under investigation. also police are investigating the death of a suspected home intrude interwissinoming. it happened on the 6100 block of van dyk street this morning. the homeowner says he and his nephew confronted the 23-year-old man in the garage and struggled with him. during that struggle the suspect hit his head and died. the homeowner says the suspect was in the garage trying to steal tools. and police are also now asking for your help to identify a man hospitalized after a choking incident. the man was admitted to temple university hospital on december 12th. police say he choked on some food, lost consciousness and was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. he was not -- has not regained consciousness yet. neither the police nor hospital staff have been able to identify him. please take a look. if you do recognize him, contact police right away.

>> two dozen people were hurt after a mega bus slid off an indiana highway and rolled onto its side. the bus was traveling from chicago to atlanta. 68 people were on board. investigators believe the bus' speed through wintry conditions may have contribute to do that crash. scary scene on a georgia road after a fedex truck slams into a police car. an officer got out of his car during a traffic stop and that's when the truck barreled into his cruiser. rescue crews had to extract the driver from the truck. his condition is not known. the police officer meantime was not seriously injured and there were no other reported injuries despite that frightening scene. it's been 24 days since the disappearance of shane

montgomery. today a community gathered to show support for shane's family and their determination to find their son. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson has the story. >> there's no greater cause that hits closer to home than to help find shane montgomery cause. >> amen. >> reporter: at&t in manayunk something we haven't seen in awhile. community business owners even friends and family of missing shane montgomery smiling, laughing. >> wherever he's at when he finds out that there's a 5k in his honor he's either a going to be mad or laugh. >> reporter: saturday dozens of runners hit the canal to run for shane, a fundraiser for the montgomery family to help with the investigation. by now you know the story. 21-year-old west chester university student shane montgomery missing since early thanksgiving morning, home for the holidays, bar hopping with friends ending at kildare's where he's seen leaving the bar before evanishes. last week the biggest development since.

authorities confirming shane is seen on surveillance video heading toward the manayunk canal. we spoke to his uncle kevin saturday who provided an update. >> they were out again yesterday, the marine unit was out. they had the helicopter back up in the air on thursday. apparently they have not given up and neither have we. >> reporter: if there was a theme saturday, it was just that, nearly a month after their boy went missing a week from christmas, the family, nowhere near giving up and on this cold weekend morning, shane's mother and father showed up to lend their thanks and support. >> we have a lot of fight left in us. we're not going to stop until we bring shane home. that's the bottom line. >> reporter: saturday's 5k is 100 percent donation based. 100 percent of the proceeds go into keeping the investigation, keeping the attention and mostly keeping hope alive. we're in manayunk, i'm steve patterson, "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> well, north korea says it is not responsible for the

you can join the eyewitness weather watchers. check it out cbsphilly.com/watchers. let's take you up to the poconos. great conditions for skiing and riding. live look at big boulder. some nice fresh snow with the cold temperatures able to make this over the past few nights so great skiing and riding condition its over the next few dames let's look at storm sm scan3. pretty much dry right now. disturbance in the atmosphere trying to trigger off a few snow showers in western pennsylvania. the larger storm system will pass well to our south and east. few clouds around overnight but the rest of the weekend stays dry, clear skiing to our south and west as high pressure builds in. not a bad finish to the weekend. temperatures though somewhat on the cold side. we'll look at the jet stream. right now it's a little farther to the south allowing colder air to spill in for the next 24 to 48 hours but watch what happens next week into tuesday and wednesday, we get this surge in the jet stream, it moves northward allowing milder air to build in. it's also going to come with a

storm system which will bring rain to our region. then we'll see that colder pocket of air filter behind the storm for christmas day. so, let's talk about what's happening next week. not the best travel conditions later on wednesday. going to watch the storm system move into the great lakes. so, it's well to the west of us. stronger winds out of the south bring in the warmer air. so we'll see steady rain for christmas eve. good news for christmas day, this storm moves to the north. we start to dry out so expect a soaking rain christmas eve. that snow is going to be well to our north and west out towards the great lakes f you're traveling there, there could be some problems. just windy and dry conditions for christmas day. let's time things out for the rest of the weekend. some clouds start to thin on out. tomorrow afternoon we're back to some sunshine. enjoy it. clouds move back in for monday though and we could be dealing with some rain showers later monday afternoon, monday night. this model is not showing it but some of that rain could be farther north. same deal on tuesday, some scattered showers around and really the main event will arrive on wednesday with that steadier rain.

christmas travel plans for the next few days, tomorrow looks good, monday not bad. you may run into some rain later monday night. tuesday some scattered showers around, may slow things down a little bit but it's really wednesday, christmas eve that's when we see the bulk of the storm system bringing the steadier rain. that slows things down on the highways the skies. tomorrow upper 30's to low 40's. not much difference on monday, still below average. the extended forecast, it's cold overnight, partly cloudy, low near 30, 20's in there suburbs, 42 for the high tomorrow with some sunshine. again, we'll look ahead to christmas day. it's cool, chilly, 48 degrees. here's the extended forecast again. that steady rain moves in here for christmas eve. better news for christmas day. we get that dry weather returning. >> that's good news. thank you so much justin. all right, beas, tough loss, beas. >> bad. >> there are no words. >> bad. pulling for the colts tomorrow will we all. the eagles came up short against the redskins. what can you say? this is bad

his former team and his former coach. four catches, 126 yards set up an alfred morris touchdown to make it the end to seven. second quarter mark sanchez trying to get something going and hit cooper, 3 yards score, 14-10 lead for the eagles. second half the kickoff malcolm jenkins forced a fumble. birds get it deep, washington turnover and got nothing out of it. codey parkey finally missed. a blown chance for the team. washington came back. darrell young scored two touchdowns and it was 24-14 in the fourth quarter. now the second, birds with the chance. cooper again, that makes it 24-21. after a nate allen interception codey parkey is good from 22 yards out. game's all tied. birds with the ball. under two minutes to go. sanchez threw it behind jeremy maclin.

washington got the interception. hit the game winner five seconds left, eagles lost their third straight game, final score 27-24. >> got to win games. head coach and the quarterback we're the only ones who keep a record so that's -- those it goes with the territory with this position. there have been three really tough games. this one came down to the wire. we just came up short. >> flyers started their eight game road trip in toronto. crazy first period. both teams combined for six goals. voracek with the nice pass to claude giroux who scored, tied the game up at three. now in the sector nick crows man with the puck, his shot goes off boards and hits the goalie. goes in for his third goal. later voracek and giroux hook up again, the captain with two goals on the night. flyers beat the maple leafs

seven to four. sixers with the 95 off they start a seven game road trip tomorrow in orlando. college basketball seventh ranked villanova took on syracuse this afternoon. 10 seconds left and the wildcats are down a bucket. the orange inbound the ball. cats force a turnover. pinkston came up with the ball and scored to force overtime. in the extra period it was all november v pinkston with the basket. he scored 25 points. villanova remains unbeaten holding off syracuse 82 to 77. we w
