choice today, that's pretty much it, right? >> just too warm, even those my large big storm system to work with it just didn't provide enough cold air. watching the cold front cross through, temperatures take a lit, but still stays well above average. just the way the pattern is this time around, storm scan3, we start, there eventually put things in motion here. see where the worse every any left over wet weather is currently being found. and that's generally across southern most new jersey even across the bay here, into portions of sussex county, delaware, kent, as well. but, there is a very discontinuing back edge to. >> this back toward harrisburg, see the clouds rolling through in the last few hours? that's what we need to cross through, and then we can say, all right, cold front's out of here, then we start to see the temperatures dropping off too. which they have. i mean, actually started off much milder than this, earlier this morning, in fact, last night, after the sun had long since gone down, we hit our daytime high of 64 degrees. it did in fact make it a daily recovered, at least tide for

for that 8:00 christmas mass, but really, there has been a lot of activity overnight here, as women, as you well know. big tradition, all across the worlds for catholics to attends that midnight mass, and that certainly was the case here in center city earlier today. >> ♪ >> from the music, to the message, the basilica of saints peter and paul in center city philadelphia is filled with the christmas spirit. and, packing the pews, philadelphians looking forward not to what's under the christmas tree, but who is around it. and just moved back to the area. so i'm glad i can be with my family this evening, and the holiday season. >> nice to relax with family and friends. >> of course family is always the theme on this holiday, but specially so when archbishop charles chaput's message this year with the worlds meeting of families just around the corner and papal visit on the horizon, family will remain the folk just 2015. >> we went to a jest ooh i can

>> ♪ >> speaking of the month i have, thousands of people listen to pope francis as he delivered his christmas message from the balcony, saint peters basilica. pope delivered row lidge us persecution, and called for peace in times of conflict. during last night's christmas eve mass, the pontiff urged the world's catholics to remember that god's message of peace is quote stronger than darkness, and corruption. members of britain's royal family attended christmas services at sander ham church. hundreds waited for glimpse of queen elizabeth and prince film. prince william and pregnant wife kate were there, but the toddler son prince george did not go. prince charles and his wife camilla did not attend we're told because of back injury she suffered earlier this month. >> unfortunately, not all of the news this christmas is joyful. philadelphia officials are investigating what caused part after two home, two-family home, to collapse in olney. it happened on the 100 block of roosevelt boulevard. police say five adult, were inside at the time.

two people went to the hospital. "eyewitness news", spoke with a woman who says she lives inside. >> i would just hang on the side, i heard allowed boom. that's it. and then i just look out the window and we came down. i came down and that's when we couldn't come back to the house. >> they helped them finds a place to stay. >> deadly hit-and-run in northeast philadelphia. investigators say theresa pozzi hit by truck tuesday night, see tried to cross state road in holmesburg. her family has this message for the person who hit the 33 year old and the person who helped her. >> these women were men, who ever -- these women or men, who ever they were, were meant to be there not to leave her alone. thank you for the person who knew they clearly hit her, you are heartless, you are cruel, and god will make his way to you who ever.

>> investigators are reviewing surveillance video for leads on that truck. late 80s or early 90s, dark colored pick up or tow truck. they say it is also miss ago headlight. >> police say a 89 year old man is in stable condition this morning, after an s.u.v. crashed through the lobby of a nursing home. it happened yesterday afternoon, at the nursing home in hokessing, delaware. investigators say, the man was pinned between a wall and the suv. three other suffered minor injuries. authorities are still investigating, but say alcohol did not play a role in the crash. >> and happening today, the annual re-enactment of washington crossing of the delaware. it is at washington crossing state park on route 32 in bucks county. and festivities begin at noon, with the crossing at 1:00. this re-enactment commemorates washington's daring crossing on christmas night. 1776, the turning point in the american revolution. all right, 8:06 right now. and it is president obama as

when larger theater chains said they would not throw it because of terror threats, hackers tied to north korea in a stunning reversal the company released the film as planned today. saying it shows to stand to up those who tried to suppress free speech. president obama, who criticized sony's original decision, praised the move from hawaii. >> i plan to -- >> cinema village here at new york city just one every hundreds every these that's agreed show "the interview" sony also made the film available on line. >> this group sat down to watch the film in the news room of our cbs station in san francisco. reaction was mixed. >> north korea should lighten up. they should have watched the movie before they did all the of the nasties that they did. >> after watching it i can can see sort of why sony didn't want it released. >> they hate us because they ain't us. >> people who would rather watch it at local can do so on variety every video platforms including google play, youtube

videos, and xbox video for a fee. don champion, "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". >> the pen cinema riverfront in wilmington the only local theater showing that my. 8:16. let's get traffic and weather together. >> good morning, we start things off by taking you out to one of the field cameras which is showing definitely the change in the pattern here. what you see off in the distance is that sliver of sunshine. and the cloud deck that's starting to retreat. so we're facing west here over the ben franklin bridge, again in camden on this side of the river. facing out toward the west, where the back edge of the front has yet to completely cross. so, there is some change on the horizon here, very literally speaking, and as gee on out next to another area camera, it is at least dried out at this point, outside beach patrol headquarters, still very damp looking, dreary for sure, and also little choppy out with the surf here. but, our system is making it full retreat. as we look at storm scan3, see that very evidently. there may still be few lingering showers down near

the shore points, and even just inland, from the area shore points here in new jersey. but we are going to start to see things clear out nicely. as the day progresses we ends up with some sunshine. go ahead, spread some holiday cheer here across the us. looking at some of the christmas theme towns, where we ends up on the thermometer, kentucky, pair of four's, expected hi, rudolph ohio, 39, rudolph the red nose reindeer had his work cut out for him last night, am i right? evergreen, north carolina, 58 degrees there. and we expect nothing better than the 20's, through the don err area as well up into antler, north dakota back to the here and now, look where we stands temperature wise, not bad, guys. still in the up 50's at this point from philly down to wilmington and dover. millville also checking in at 53 degreesment knowledge pocono the coolest spot of the pack. but still, 39 degrees, is too warm for any rain even if it were still to come through to come down as anything but rain. meanwhile, going through the day, this temperature is

weather continues to make its full retreat. at this point unless you are down near the area shore points, just inland, you really are done at this point with the wet weather see the back edge of the clouds, see the slice of sunshine, just little hint of blue skies off in the distance here, so skies beginning now to brighten up for us, right on cue, really, but that wind is going to also be pretty noticeable for you here. already hit our day tie how many of about 53 degrees, even warmer than that through the overnight, but more of just the gist of where our temperatures would fall for the early morning hours. >> back down to the 30's, cool and certainly breezy, still, but the worse of the win happens through the day. >> tomorrow, saturday, georgous conditions return. mid 50's, low 50's, whatever it is all well above average for us yet again. do get dose of temperature reality finally by monday, as another cold front crosses through sunday, will touch off few showers we think, then by monday temperatures start to respond to the cold front passage, nicole, back to you.

morning. >> erika, nicole, good morning, merry christmas, that's right, the christmas mass at 8:00 now well underway, there is also mass at 10:00 and noon today. and you know what? it has been busy overnight here, as well, because tradition for many catholics all around the worlds is the midnight mass. certainly, held true here, in center city early this morning. take a look at the video, the pews were pack here, overnight, for that midnight mass. many people we spoke with are looking forward to spending time with family this christmas. and, family was a main topic of archbishop charles chaput midnight mass. usually this holiday, but specially so this year as philadelphia prepares for the world meeting of families set for september 2015. along with that historic visit by pope francis with papal mass on the parkway. now the archdioces is already kicking the planning into high gear, tackling issues from buying and storing millions of mass booklet, to housing and transportation for more tan a million visitors. it seems this christmas philadelphians couldn't be more excited.

certainly, all of this snow comes courtesy of the man-made machines up in carbon county ski slopes. obviously did not have enough cold air to pro cues any snow this time around for our area, but looking forward in this forecast here, we go next to storm scan3 back edge to the clouds, still cloudy out, there but back edge to it eventually will seymour and more sunshine. all of the weather completely moves out. ooh degrees the current temperature at the airport, 39 mount pocono, mid low 50's southern new jersey as well as in through the suburbs of philly and 55 -- 45 in doylestown. basically already hit the temperatures. we hit the daytime high very early in the morning. and as this day progresses, these temperatures, and what we're currently finding out, there they'll justin their decline essentially, so cooler conditions building with time here. the other thing you got to keep in mind, it will be very blustery this christmas day, beautiful weather comes right back into place though as high pressure takes the lead for friday, saturday. we will talk more about that

feel like a little jump hey, right there at the end. we're loving the holiday music. all right, let's move onto things out here, storm scan3, still tracking little wet weather here as we move forward. and we are seeing the back edge of our frontal boundery moving on through, as well. here is the back edge of the clouds. that's what you need to cross through complily, see it lines up, on the tail end of the loop. once the cloud cover clears, you get sunshine, done with this. now, thing is, still going to have some lingering winds out there, as well, and you will also start to see the temperatures dropping off maybe in your car thermometer if you are take ago driver down the turnpike to go visit your grandmother, something like, that but looking at the temperature variance across the board, front hasn't completely cleared up and down the eastern seaboard where we are still stuck into the low and mid 50's, off to the west we've got you in the 30's here through columbus, little rodge, that's where the cold front has absolutely since cleared, do have more sunshine on tap for you too. one example of that, tells the story really well out in the live neighborhood network. you have got the puddles

indicating very telling what's rolled through, temperatures still mild, wind still relatively lied. but we also are starting to see skies brighten up little bit of sunlight off over-the-hill side there if you haven't yet seen the sunlight you will, as the day progresses, merry christmas, temperatures hit 536789 don't expect we'll clip much more, rather, we continue to decline on the thermometer all day today, slowly but surely, and the blustery conditions are the other story here, with wind gust that is could actually still peak, even as high as 40 miles per hour in the wake of the front. it is a potent front, but actually going to see turn around on the thermometer just as quickly as that storm rolls through. so, right into friday, saturday, sunday, right back to the 50's, once again, sunday's the next shot to see a shower, will come courtesy of yet another front, which obviously does knock temperatures back, so getting dose of reality here, looking ahead to next week, guys, back over to you. >> katie, thank you. three time cancer survivor and design fresh california gets chance of lifetime.

>> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". good morning, i'm erika von tiehl. one of the area's favorite annual event takes place in just a few hours in bucks county. it is the annual re-enactment of washington crossing the delaware, costume reenactors will listen to the inspiring words from george washington, then, relive the daring and dangerous crossing from christmas night 1776. the fest i have tis begin at noon at washington crossing state park, in bucks county. and katie it, sounds like they'll do pretty well with the forecast, don't have to wear too heff a coat. >> definitely still very mild for the standards. it will be windy, into the afternoon, but that's really the one and only weather-related factor we'll have to deal with at that point. sunglasses wouldn't be worse idea either. after some very dreary weather, seeing the back edge

now, of our wet weather, and the cold front, making it full retreat. and look how it is brightening up. so, so nice to see this on christmas morning. 42 degrees currently outside pleasant valley, broads heads ville, starting to see a lot of blue sky off in the distance here, we take you through the forecast, already hit the daytime high of 53. temperatures will gladly decline. will stay windy, as well. with gusts that could peak as high as 40 miles per hour. breezy colder tonight, good excuse to break out your christmas sweater if maybe you open one up for the holiday this morning, meanwhile, the course of the next few days, more sunshine in this forecast, looks lovely tomorrow, saturday, still above average on the thermometer, come sunday, it does appear like we'll have few showers in the forecast, especially to the second half of the day, then by monday colder air will finally catch up to us, and we're back into seasonable territory highs at best into the low or mid 40's, even wednesday, in you years eve, looking little on the chillier side, right now, we are calling for at least some sunshine, and temperatures that are into the 30's.
