hurt in this robbery, but he fled in a blue mini-van with cash. >> right now 8:00. this is just great story. talk about the joy of the season. one philadelphia mom has a very special reason to celebrate the holidays. >> yes, "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live outside hahnemann hospital with more on the special septa delivery last night. jan, good morning. >> reporter: erika, nicole, good morning, a lot of people are calling this a christmas miracle, especially, when you consider that this mother delivered her baby boy on a septa subway train, and he was saved. they're here at hahnemann hospital this morning, told in good condition. and that is thanks in part to a couple of septa police officers. when the septa train pulled into the station, at 15th and market, on christmas evening, police officers terrell james, daniel kaban didn't know it yet but in for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. >> saw passengers looking around, we know something is going on. >> second passerby hey, i

believe somebody is going into labor. >> that person was right inside a train car in front of concerned passengers, and captured on surveillance video, one baby couldn't wait any longer. mom delivers in her seat on the train. >> we went on the scene, and we saw the baby, getting ready to come out. we went right into action. her husband was there. he helped out. he helped us out. he gave us a shirt off his back. and we wrapped the baby around. >> humbly, the offers earth say they were just in the right place at the right time. but this no doubt was truly a miracle under market street. >> whether you talk about christmas, it is a time for giving, gifting, and just, you u know, joyous times. the fact that this woman will look back and say in her time of need, to make a joyous occasion, you know, septa police were there to hepp. it will be amazing. >> reporter: both of these officers are fathers themselves, but they haven't gone through anything like this, while on the job. they say they're honored to be a part of the experience. reporting live in center city

this morning, jan carabeo, "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". >> nice to see a story like that, jan, thank up. coming up on 8: 03, let's get our traffic and weather together on a beautiful friday. >> it really is, and i have to say the fact we just had cold front cross through, you would think this forecast would certainly brighten up. and it is. but that it would be turning a lot colder than it is. granted you walk out the door and notice okay, it is a lot colder than it was this same time yesterday. but still technically going to evening out an above average day on the thermometer. let's take you out there. i want to show you the view. it is a beautiful one up at jack frost, big boulder, all of the area ski resorts hopping with activity, no pun intended for those ski bunnies out, there but temperatures remain smidge above average to say the least up in the poconos, really everywhere else. so, they may be making their own snow up at the ski resorts. storm scan3, totally empty. you have got beautiful blue sky, pretty much everywhere, obviously we just showed you in the live shot, from jack frost big boulder, beautiful sunlight out there.

temperatures have certainly take answer hit. we are now a little bit in the negative hereby about ten to 15 plus degrees, by comparison to the same time yesterday. now that translates on the thermometer is low mid or upper 30's, at this point. but the winds has slack ends up quite a bit. and we are certainly going to continue to see that theme unfold across the board throughout the day. low 50's expected, in philly, at the shore point, up in the poconos. so no matter what your activity of choice will be today, the weather is going to cooperate for it. and we're almost ten above the average with these highs, that's not bad. vittoria? >> not bad at all on the roads, either. lots of good news, for weather and also lots of good news for traffic. the one thing is though with gorgeous weather like there is you want to be minds full of sun glare, so make sure you put the shades on or put the shades down if you are travel right now, but if you are traveling first on the roosevelt boulevard, no delays in either direction, beautiful out there. whether you are headed towards the schuylkill or moving away from 76, then headed into the northeast section of philadelphia, it is awesome. if you are traveling on the

schuylkill, it is also awesome. no delays if you are traveling there is shot here, around spring garden, not too far from center city but also within your western suburb, doesn't matter where you are, 55 on 95, same thing the schuylkill, northeast extension, pa turnpike, 422, 22, 30 bypass, all gorgeous. no problems as well traveling in jersey and traveling into delaware. so all-in-all just beautiful way to end the week and beautiful way to celebrate the next day after christmas. also, a great way to celebrate, frozen on ice. i know, i'm so excited about this. i wish i was going, but 11, three, seven, watch out for heavy heavy volume around the wells fargo center in south philadelphia. nicole? >> thank you. and happening today, a memorial service in india marks the tenth anniversary of the deadly indian ocean tsunami. a 9.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of indonesia triggered disaster back in 2004. more than 200,000 people died,

pointed a gun at the officer. this happened in the suburb of berkley. that's about a few miles outside of ferguson, missouri where michael brown was shot and killed in august. demonstrators in california left a big mess behind after protesting violence by police in oakland. police say that a large group of people smashed windows on local businesses, and damaged the city's christmas tree during last night's protest. because of the holiday, there were fewer than 40 oakland officers to deal with the aftermath. >> president and mrs. obama took time out from their vacation to visit troops in hawaii. >> the world is bert, safer err, more peaceful, more prosperous, and our homelands is protected because of you. >> last become an annual tradition for the first family, thanking troops during a trip to the 50th state. president pointed out this is the last christmas before the majority of american troops are pulled out of afghanistan next week. >> well, doctors treating former president george h.w. bush say he is doing well.

they say the 41st president is in great spirits, but not saying how soon he can leave that houston hospital. mr. bush experienced a shortness of breath earlier this week. his wife, bash, a and son, kneel, visited him on christmas day, at 90 years old mr. bush is the oldest living former us president. theatres across the country including one in our area started showing the controversial comedy the interview, despite threats from north korea. some movie chains decided not show that film after the sony hacking scandal and threats made against theatres run it. "the interview" came out on christmas as plan, but only in select theatres. movie theater at penn cinema gave it a thumbs-up. >> it shows perspective from the side of north korea, from what their people see, verse us what we actually see. it shows the difference between propaganda, and how we perceive it, and how they portray it. >> pen cinema says wilmington police will provide extra security, staffers say the

shoppers with great deals up to 08% off in some storms. -- stores. you can expect to save on pretty much everything today. cherry hill mall opened its doors at 7:00 this morning, king of prussia king of prussia just opened their doors at 8:00 about 20 minutes ago. well, if you received a gift cards, you can't really use, don't let it just sit around the house. wal-mart will buy back your unwanted gift cards, so you can exchange it for a wal-mart gift cards. now you won't get the full value. the amount of the money you get back depends on the merchant. still pretty good deal. >> not bad at all. it is big day to cash in on those sales as erika has been saying. if you plan to shop on line be maybe use some of the gift cards, there are precautions you need to take. julie watts with few tips from expert to keep hackers from getting your personal information. >> might want to think about shopping twice before shopping on line from public wyfi. >> if someone can fine a way to compromise that connection, they'll see what you're doing

this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". good morning, i'm nicole brewer. philadelphia police are searching for the suspect who robbed a chain east take out restaurant in fernrock overnight. it happened lets than a block from the 35th police district at the asia two restaurant on north broad street. police say the gunman got a which with cash then fled inside a blue mini-van, fortunately, no one was hurt. >> now, a check on the forecast, the beautiful forecast that katie has in store. >> it really is. good morning, nicole. high shall everybody, hammy friday to you. what a way to sort of wrap up the week here and continue into the upcoming weekend if maybe your holiday festivities are continuing on. it looks like the weather really going to work out for us here. we've got high pressure in place. there is a loop playing here. but you have got to look really closely to tell that anything is actually happening here on storm scan3.

there, wrapped up just moments after he enters the world, this all happened on a septa train, that had just arrived at the 15th and market station, on christmas christmas. police got word over the radio that someone was in need of help as the cars were pulling in. and as the officers approached those cars, concerned passengers told them a woman was in labor, so they sprung into action. and soon after, a healthy baby boy was in their arms, safe and sound. >> we were just there, doing what we do, you snow just there to help people. and then any kind of way shape or form that comes. >> we delivered baby for her. like her christmas present, but also like a blessing, present for myself. this is the first time i experienced something like this. >> what a great night for those officers. they're actually fathers themselves, but having gone through anything like this on the job before, they say, they're honor to be a part of this experience. >> jan carabeo, "eyewitness news" on the "cw" fill. >> i employee of the month

to storm scan3, you can understand why, if there is any cloud cover, you got to go either into northeast pa, or up into up-state new york or western pa, if you actually find any cloud cover. otherwise we've got just bright blue skies, beautiful weather unfolding, and all thanks to high pressure. here is one example of the beautiful blue sky off in the distance, no problems seeing that center city skyline here from palmyra cove nature park in new jersey as we look out over the open river waters there, but here's the open ocean water where we've also got beautiful blue skies. and certainly a very quiet start to the day. out at beach patrol headquarters in margate. looking around the region as a whole, still very modest breeze, less than it was yesterday, though. and it does, as a result, make it feel ever so slightly cooler than the thermometer actually reads. looking at nice day. wall-to-wall sunshine as i like to call it here, up in the poconos, perhaps few additional clouds. but this will be beautiful afternoon for everybody, and we can expect to see temperatures remain little

above average here. generally in the low 50's, vittoria? >> thank you so. katie, lots to look forward to weather wise and traffic wise. as we take a look at some of the majors, this is 95, not too far away from the betsy ross bridge, beautiful out there. both sides of the roadway northbound and southbound, and it is not only around this area here far northeast, delaware couldn't, a loft good news. very sunny shot of the platt bridge here, if you are traveling the platt, no delays in either direction, if you are traveling around the plot, maybe tow philadelphia international airport no delays. disable vehicle westbound beyond bensalem. causing just touch of traffic here, but it is not awful. it is compromising one of the lanes, that why we're seeing the slow down, but not awful. stick with it, traveling elsewhere in bucks county route one northbound we have an accident, just beyond 32, bridge street, so traveling in that area, that's also compromising the right hand lane. you will notice a delay to follow that. and, very, very good news, for

anyone heading in toward the wells fargo center area. we do have great traffic conditions around south philadelphia. if anyone is heading to frozen on ice around 11:00. hopefully stays that way, err dismay. >> should be fun. 8:35, and there is a new fight at the old revel casino in atlantic city. the developer who plans to buy the building wants some money back. lawyers for glenn straub say that he should only have to pay $87 million for the property. straub lost the auction for revel after bidding $95 million. but, the original buyer, backed out. a judge will decide next month how much straub should pay for that casino. >> federal health officials say action will be taken after live ebola samples were miss hands philadelphia cdc lab. now, a technician is being monitored for possible exposure to the virus. cbs news respond end julian a goldman reports now from washington. >> 50dc conducting review of the latest mistake in which live ebola virus may have been sent from one lab to another

down the hall, one not equipped to work with the deadly pat jen. technician who hands the the sample was not adequately protected. cdc director tom freeden promising action, latest in the string of links to up great safety. in a statement, he said, no risk to staff is acceptable. >> for this to happen, and put our workers, potentially at risk; totally unacceptable. >> that was freeden in july t had just been revealed that cdc work hers accidentally contaminated flu samples with the deadly h5n1 virus also known as bird flu. and in june, the agency admit that lab workers may have been exposed to live anthrax, after it wasn't properly deactivated. those samples had even been transferred between labs in zip-lock bags, a breach of protocol. the mishap prompted congressional hearings, during which freeden promised, quote, sweeping measures for the lack safety culture. cdc put together panel of

outside safety expert, temporarily shutdown some labs, but cbs news chief medical correspondent john said maybe not enough. >> human error will always be present. can you not get rid of t the question is can you change the cult shnewer can you change the protocol, so when human error does occur it doesn't have disastrous consequence cents. the materials that potentially contain live ebola in the latest accident were destroyed before officials even discovered the problem, the cdc never got to test the actual specimen, so we may never know how big a mistake this actually was. cbs news, washington. >> newly approved weight loss drug could help some people win their battle with the buldge. the fda approved an injectable weight management tool. clinical trials help 62% of patients lose at least 5% of their body fat. the medication is only
