>> ♪ >> breaking news right now at 10 o'clock a child has been struck and killed by a police car. officials in franklin township gloucester county new jersey say a police officer was responding to a call at the time. it happened at about 7 o'clock this evening at the intersection of delsea drive and paul street. we do have a crew on the way to that scene. we're going to bring you any new developments as we get information and of course we'll have a live report as well on "eyewitness news" coming up at 11:30 on our sister station cbs3. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. thanks so much for joining us tonight. another big story that we're following. the search for a missing jetliner with more than 162 people on board. the air asia plane was flying from indonesia to singapore when it disappeared over the java see. cbs correspondent wendy gillette picks up the story from there. >> reporter: at least a dozen navy ships, five plains, three helicopters and several war ships from three countries are scouring the java sea between indonesia and singapore searching for air asia flight 8501. the plane carried 162 passengers including 17 children. >> all we can hope for is that the investigators do their jobs as efficiently and quickly as possible. >> reporter: the plane took off from indonesia at approximately 5:30 a.m. but around 6:10 pilot asked to turn left and climb to a higher altitude to avoid clouds. an indonesian transportation official said that request was denied due to traffic. sometime between 6:17 a.m. and

7:24 the pilot lost contract with air traffic control. there was no distress signal. violent thunderstorms were reported at the time the plane disappeared. anxious family helps waited at the airport. messages advised relatives to contact the airline instead of an arrival time. >> terrible feeling of loss. >> reporter: the disappearance is eerily similar to the plane missing in march carrying to 39 people. >> i think it's coincidence from what we know at this point. >> reporter: investigators say there's no evidence of terrorism but nothing has been ruled out. in new york, wendy gillette for "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> stay with us for continuing coverage of the search for air asia flight 8501. you can always get the very latest at cbsphilly.com. >> good sunday night. still tracking some disturbed weather over our region in the form of light rain really not causing any problems. you can see leftover showers breaking out from philadelphia south to baltimore parts of southeastern new jersey. this goes on another hour or two, may be picking up a couple hundredth's of an inch so not a big deal as far as the rain goes. temperatures still on the mild side. 50 degrees currently in philadelphia, 46 trenton, 33 in mount pocono. quakertown doylestown both coming in the low 40's this hour but there are changes once that front passes we'll get a surge of colder air starting to move in overnight. here's the monday morning temperatures. by the time you wake up many spots from the city northward will be in the mid to upper 30's. still hanging onto some lower

40's early monday morning into south jersey and delaware. here's your forecast for monday. we're going to dry it out. seeing a little bit more sunshine. little bit cooler, stale few degrees above average 46 degrees for the high under partly sunny skies. mid 40's at the shore. temperatures in the mountains in the 30's. we'll talk about the dry weather how long it lasts and colder temperatures as we finish off 2014. download the cbsphilly app. it's free and available now in itunes and google play. >> justin thank you. protesters gather in philadelphia to call for changes in the legal system. they feel minorities are unfairly targeted by police. matt rivers talked to a local mother upset over the circumstances surrounding the death of her son. >> no justice no peace. >> reporter: in the shadow of the liberty bell and independence hall protesters used their first amendment rights to denounce police brutality. >> tomorrow your loved ones. tomorrow it could be me or you. >> reporter: many brought up the case of brandon brown shot and killed by police a few weeks ago. his mother called his death unnecessary. >> it's no excuse for the behavior that is happening from the police. it is no excuse for the ink in accordance. >> reporter: police say that brown was pulled over during a traffic stop struggled with the officers and reached for a gun in his center console. that's when he was killed. protesters say his death is joined by other black men who were killed unjustly. >> i want new laws, i want new legislation. this has got to stop. >> reporter: in north philly sunday morning parishoners at the baptist worship center some wearing black lives

t-shirts say they prayed for peace between the community and the police. >> we know that all lives matter and we're bringing the church and community together just to keep these issues before the people. >> reporter: back in olde city protesters marched from independence mall up seventh street escorted by police who protected them by blocking off traffic on the streets. they ended up outside police headquarters continueing to chanted as police looked on. matt rivers "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> well, a bucks county girl whose fight for life spawned change in pennsylvania has died just weeks short of her second birthday. hannah rose ginion died this morning. she suffered from krabbe disease a rare degenerative disorder. tonight loved ones gathered for a candlelight vigil in her honor. >> lucky to have that many people love them. changed the world and we're so bless toads have everybody here for us because it's something you can't go through alone. >> the more purpose we found for her life it gave her and us more reasons why she was here and why she was going to leave this earth earlier than we were. >> tom corbett signed a bill requiring hospitals to screen for krabbe and five other diseases. dive teams head back into the water looking for clues in the disappearance of shane montgomery. the garden state under water recovery unit returned to the schuylkill river today. diverse took turns spending 30 to 40 minutes or so at a time under water looking for any evidence of the west chester university student. they're using a fan pat attorney eliminate areas as they make their way down

river. >> we're here a week ago. we found shane's keys. and so today we started from that point and began searching further down river along the same shore bank to -- that is where we think is the highest probability area that we might look for him. >> montgomery left kildare's pub in manayunk thanksgiving morning then he was captured briefly on surveillance video walking towards the river later that day. students enjoying the holiday break learned their school will not be reopening. parents who send their kids to the walter d. palmer leadership learning partner charter school they showed "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson the shocking letter that arrived in the mail this weekend. the school will be closing its doors for goodies 31st. >> i feel betrayed, disrespected. >> reporter: melissa thompson says anger is an even bigger emotion after a letter came home from her son's school this weekend but she says none of that compares to how he's doing. >> mentally destroyed my son. >> reporter: saturday the letter from walter d palmer charter school addressed to parents saying at the end of this year school is shutting down for g it is a charter system buried in if this problems n may the pennsylvania supreme court ruled the school board has to pay back $1.5 million to the school district of philadelphia for enrolling nearly twice as many students as they were allowed. in october a lottery was held that got hundreds of children from palmer charter while palmer high was shut down for g the letter from the board this weekend tells parents the monthly payments from the court decision are just too

high and they're left with no other options. a statement from the school district of philadelphia says "the walter d. palmer organization has not informed the school district of its plan to close the charter school. it goes on to say the district is ready to help parents with the transition to other schools. >> it's like that's our christmas gift, the school closing down on us? it feels very hurtful. >> reporter: we spoke to the school's founder and chairman walter d. palmer by tomorrow. he says he's out of town and could not appear on camera but he did add that all 675 students will be affected by this and a transition team is in place to help parents place those students in other schools. for now reporting from northern liberties i'm steve patterson, "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> the eagles bring their disappointing season to an end but at least they did it with a win today. sports director beasley reece is live with the highlights of the game. hey, beas. >> eagles and giants so many miracles define the rivalry. this time it was two teams going nowhere playing for pride. mark finished 23 of 36 for 292 yards and two scores along with two interceptions. >> james casey blocked a giants punt. the birds end the season at 10 and six after beating the giants 34 to 26. >> i think this team played extremely hard, with great effort. a couple games the ball didn't bounce our way but we all felt this week it was important to try to get to double digit wins. to win 10 games in this league

around temperatures still mild in the 40's. let's check it out in some selected areas. not too far from philadelphia, conshohocken matthew checks in at 49 degrees, ron russell in riverside new jersey at 48. robert in downingtown pennsylvania a little bit cooler there, 45 and down in ocean city, new jersey, james checks in at a comfortable 48 degrees as well. how much rain were are we talking about? not a whole lot. it was very light rain but newark delaware leads the list right now coming in at .07-inches of rain today and ocean city new jersey .300 and only .0 of rain reported in downingtown. if you want to be a part of our newscast become an eyewitness weather watcher. sign up at cbsphilly.com/watchers. let's take you outside right now. looking the center city, the ben franklin bridge. still some clouds over the region little bit of drizzle still possible over the next few hours. i'll show you this on storm scan3. it's a cold front still to the west but the cold air isn't here yet. ahead of it we have light rain breaking out across i-95 getting to new castle county delaware into parts of south jersey next hour or two. just some light rain moving through. otherwise mostly cloudy skies through the overnight. let's talk about these temperatures. we will be cooling it down so winter weather fans, you'll enjoy these temperatures coming up the next few days. nothing terribly cold. it's not a true arctic outbreak. we'll be in the 40's on monday still above average. then we drop a little below average tuesday wednesday and thursday. high temperatures struggle to get to the mid 30's and by the end of the week slow warmup. looks like those highs return to the lower 40's.

right now 50 degrees at the airport, 43 in allentown, 48 down towards the shore. there is that cold air we're talking about to our west. 36 degrees pittsburgh, state college, that will get in here through overnight. cold front that moves through allows some of that colder canadian air to build in. temperatures will go below average, maybe about 5 degrees below average. nothing we can't handle this time of year. tomorrow we're back to the low to mid 40's. partly sunny skies return. we'll keep it dry. there's that cold area of high pressure building in from canada. high temperatures tuesday in the 30's and wednesday is probably our coldest day mid 30's for highs but we'll see some sunshine around so looks like we'll be dry through the next several days. storm system passes by to our south tomorrow morning still some clouds around. we'll get more sunshine through the afternoon. those clouds may kind of hang tough across south jersey and delaware. same story on tuesday dry partly sunny skies. looks like new year's eve looks good. sunshine during the day, we'll keep it quiet at night. maybe doing some traveling looks okay across the region. temperatures tomorrow low to me 40's, couple degrees above average and we start to bring that colder air in here for tuesday. highs to the mid to upper 30's. won't that be windy either so wind chills won't be too harsh. few showers around early overnight. otherwise mostly cloudy, 38 for the low for center city. cooler day on monday, partly sunny, high temperature around 46 degrees. we'll go ahead check out your new year's eve forecast, keeping it dry and clear. mostly clear skies it's cold at midnight 28 degrees so if you're heading to pens landing to look at the fireworks dress warm and there will be good viewing conditions. here's the extended forecast. more sunshine returns cold,

30's for highs. by the end of the week next weekend we warm it back up to near 50. looks like we'll be dealing with rain on saturday with highs in the upper 40's. >> justin thank so much as. >> sure. >> eagles won't on a good note. >> yeah, ending the season on a high note but that was just -- what? what's it all about. >> glass half full, beas. >> lesley van arsdale was there and she led the postgame report. that's coming up in >> we didn't know it at the time but thanksgiving was a sports holiday beating dallas. nothing left for the eagles but new year's resolutions about what they're going to do in 2015. you just wait. after the giants scored in the first drive eagles sond. mark sanchez found jordy matthews and he went 44 yards to the house. jordy with aid catches. san can chez to brent celek it's a 1 yard score. first td of the season. led by one at the intermission. giants start three and out to begin the third. that's when the eagles special teams kicked in. they've been awesome. james casey with the block tray burd stumbles in from 27 yards out for the score. eagles led 24 to 16. jalen watkins will slip covering the most talented guy on the field, that would be odell beckham. you know what happened. 63 yards later it's a touchdown. eagles lead is now 31 to 26. after the birds made it 34-26 giants needed a touchdown and a two-point conversion but here comes a play from a safety. and a big time play by nate allen. flying through the area to seal the deal.

the eagles end their three game slide with a 34-26 win in the season finale. here's lesley van arsdale with the postgame report. >> so, the eagles go out on a high note which the players say is very important but for some they still can't believe their season has come to an gleaned i really can't just the way we started the season. a lot of hard fought game, all the things we came over through adversity for it to be over that fast it's kind of mind blowing. >> you get the chance to play, you want to win every time you get a chance to play out there and we wanted to win for our teammates, our coaches, you know, the city and 10 wins is not hard to get -- i mean not easy to get in this league so we're proud to get those 10 wins. it's a disappointing season overall but it feels good to finish with a win. >> many players future with the team unclear. >> i think everything will take care of itself so -- now who knows but no, i think both sides made it very clear that i want to be here and they want me here but at the end of the day it is a business. >> then there's the quarterback question some. >> i don't know what's going on. all i know is we had an awesome win today. we'll leave it at that. any more personnel questions ask coach kelly. >> a lot of teams that really struggled in that position so if we always got to try to win big and focus on that position all the timely. >> so an anti-climactic end to a season that started out with so much promise it should be an interesting off season. lesley van arsdale "eyewitness news" sports. >> while the eagles finished with 10 wins and didn't make the playoffs the carolina panthers and atlanta falcons
