in the news, questions remain after a tragic crash in new jersey a young boy crossing the street, is hit and killed, by a police cruiser. we're on the scene with details about this accident. hi everyone, it is monday, december 29th, i'm ukee washington. >> i'm erika von tiehl. more on that in a moment. first though, we want traffic and weather together a lot of folks headed back to work after nice long weekend. morning, ladies? hey, good morning. i know we lucked out on christmas, i hear it will be a little chilly on new years. >> absolutely, yes. that's our really our big story here, jess, certainly as we move forwards in this forecast we can expect things to dry out nicely, sunshine to go along with the week ahead very quiet week of weather but it always comes with a trade off. always comes with a trade off flight we take you outside. i want to show you first and for most, the tri-state sweep. bark is a lot worse than the bite. things generally dry putting things into motion. i feel like it may tell bit of better story. not everyone is. there may be spots through kent sussex county, cape may even up to cumberland, atlantic county. so late morning specially that you may still find a shower around, but everybody else is really just dealing with residual clouds at this point sometime air temperatures as they read, little miler, you have the most cloud cover in philadelphia, for example allentown, colder than, that skies clearing out meanwhile around the region we go, mid upper 50s, dose of reality for

philly and the shore, it will be little chillier up in the mountains, jess, we sends over to you. >> change you. just after 7:00. i just want to plan my outfit for new years that's all i want to know. good morning guys. out on the schuylkill expressway, i meant to say, 42 at creek road out in new jersey headed northbound, toward 295 and the surrounding area bridges, head today fill, you should really no problem doing so. starting to pack in just a little volume. southbound lanes moving just fine though. things running smoothly, headed westbound towards the king of prussia area. things still moving along great. out in new jersey, an accident on route 55 northbound, near route 674, that is north vineland. so that's pushed over to the shoulder there. use some caution when traveling on by. currently no problems on any of the bridges. headed in or out of the city the ben walt, or betsy ross, in problems there, as well. 422 from 202 into oaks, westbound still pretty clear a the loft majors not having a lot of problems. extra volume though this morning, on the blue route, no problems, no problems on 202 northbound, from route 30 into the schuylkill expressway, as well but you can take septa dart and new jersey transit as an alternate. they're currently no delays. back to you. >> jessica, thank you. a ten year old boy dice after being hit by a police crews nerve franklin township gloucester count. >> i that crash happened last night as that boy crossed the street along delsea drive along paul street. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us at the scene with the latest information. jan, good morning. >> good morning, many questions remain today. was this police officer's

lights and sirens on at the time of the crash? well with that emergency call, he was heading out on, in the meantime, a autopsy will be performed, on the ten year old victim today as this investigation continues. as word spread a ten year old child had been killed crossing the street here in franklin township family, friends came to the scene, looking for answers. >> the victim was a ten year old boy and the driver of the vehicle was a franklin township police officer and the matter is currently under investigation. >> it happened just after 7:00 p.m., delsea drive near paul street. ten year old boy and two of his friends, were headed to a slumber party at the time. one of the child's friends had made it across the street safely. but police say as the ten year old start today cross he was struck by a franklin township police cruiser and died. investigators say that officer was responding to a call when the accident happened, only person inside the crewser. >> we'll release more details as we receive them. we would like to offer our deepest condolances to the family of the child. >> now, that police officer was taken to the hospital for evaluation. no other children were injured. again, full investigation is now underway. but gloucester county prosecutor's offers is in charge of the investigation. reporting live in franklin township, jan carabeo "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". >> new this morning, two philadelphia police officers were hurt by flying debris during a overnight garage fire in frankford. the call came in just before 1:30, for fire on the 1100 block of arrott street.

the garage was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene. authorities say that is when they noticed a station wagon inside the garage. while extinguishing the fire they heard allowed pop. and then a piece of metal hit strike too long police officers in their leg. >> both officers were treated for minor injuries, investigators are now looking into what sparked that fire. >> developing now, indonesian official says australian planes have spotted objects on the scene near the search area for missing air asia flight 8501. the plane lost contact with air traffic controllers while traveling from indonesia to singapore sunday. more on that search mission. >> australian serve planes have spotted objects in the java sea where an air asia plane disappeared. investigators do not yet know if it is wreckage, with helping pouring in from other nations including sing a poor, mail asia, australia. >> officials say it is likely the plane is at the bottom of the see sea. the flight caring 162 people including 17 children took off for singapore sunday morning. shortly after, one of pilots asked to change the route because of bad weather. the request was denied, due to high traffic. >> safety analyst mark says the airplane's data recorders will help reveal what happened next. >> we've got life if you will in the batteries for the the next 30 days, maybe depending upon when these batteries were put into this aircraft, as long as even 90 days. >> promises safety review of

so as we move forward in the forecast, can bang off quiet weather for the fireworks any other activities you might be enjoying on new years eve still will be out there for sure. 41 degrees end, where we top off for this particular day of the year, not bad starred to the day, but colder air eventually going to catch up to us, who is her why. it would appear, got moisture moving in from the south and headed our way. actually area of low pressure since redeveloped on the front that's already crossed through. so don't worry necessarily about this unless you reside kent county on south best shot to see any residual showers out of there. other waste expect to see sunshine looking at the new years eve forecast, is this not an effective graphic or what? specking couple every clouds, chilly night overall make it go little nuts if you look at that too long. but expect to see those temperatures be little on the chilly side to say the least by late wednesday night that would be at the stroke of midnight talking only upper 20's. so heavy coats required if you're headed down to penn's landing but as i said expect to at least see some sunshine out there. >> technically above average below the norm starting tomorrow. >> the chill? i'll take it. >> all good. >> a lot of people still on vacation lucky while we're hard at work cbs just for you guys at 7:17. going outside roadways, pretty much empty. >> things still moving great. even though little after 7:00 normally around this

time, we would be starting to see little bit of problems, from the philly side, westbound lanes there where the headlights are everything moving great. heading on into center city. now over on 95, around the vine street expressway, same story here, as well. southbound lanes moving great. northbound moving great there as women. we have one accident the only accident that we've had all morning. north vineland, accident pushed over to the side there. all the rest of the majors out in jersey still doing okay. no problems on 55, 42 northbound tiny bit slow. it is not setting you back much so far. no problems on the a.c. expressway. all of the majors as you can see completely clear 422 the schuylkill 202 none having problems. over to you. >> thank you the war in afghanistan is over at least for us-led coalition forces, ceremony kobul yesterday marked the ends america's largest war after 13 years. president obama released a statement honoring the 2200 americans, who died and thanking those who served. >> will continue to have unlimited press fence afghanistan providing training and support for the afghan military. >> former president george h.w. bush could get out of the houston, houston area hospital very soon, been there since last tuesday. >> the 90 year olds former president is the oldest living former president. >> also, in texas, five people are dead and nearly dozen others injured following an assisted living highrise fire near san antonio. don champion reports fire investigators still trying to figure out what made have

sparked this deadly blaze. thick smoke bill owed into the skies, as firefighters arrived to the wedge wood apartments outside of san antonio. by the time the fire was put out, five people were dead. crews called to the senior living apartment building around 6:00 a.m. more than 200 people live in the building, firefighters had to help some residents out on ladders, others, hardly had time to grab belongings. >> a lot of people left without socks not even coat on. >> i grabbed my coat that's all coy get. >> cause of the fire still under investigation, but appears may have started on the third floor of the building. >> after looking at the floor amazing we didn't have him have more loss of life. the third floor hallway is absolutely gutted. the doors are charred. the fire and smoke were communicated throughout the building. >> displaced resident staying in hotels or with family members. >> don champion, "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". >> meanwhile dramatic fire rescue in birmingham, alabama all caught on video. >> your mama say do it. >> three year old boy leaping from a second story window, into his cousin's arms. that boy was one of two children, trapped in the burning apartment complex on christmas morning. >> to save someone's life, and really good feeling. >> a firefighter was able to rescue the second child. officials say food, left in

and two of his friends were headed to a slumber party at the time. one of his friends had made it across the street safely, but as the ten year old start today cross he was struck by a franklin township police cruiser and died. police say the officer was responding to a call when the accident happened, was the only officer in the cruiser the office ever was taken to the hospital for evaluation, and no other children were hurt. >> the gloucester county prosecutor's offers is currently conducting a investigation into a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred earlier this evening with franklin township. the victim was a ten year old boy, and the driver of the vehicle was a franklin township police officer. and the matter is currently under investigation, we will release more details as we receive them. and we would like to offer our deepest condolances to the family of that child. >> so, details are still limited. in the meantime, franklin township has released this statement that reads in part: first and for most, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family that tragically lost their son. while this is very difficult for the young boy's family it is also very difficult for that police officer involved. it is our understanding that the officer was responding to an urgent call when this accident happened and we support the officer who was involved in this, and he is very shaken up. a full investigation is now underway again many questions remain, namely, if the police officer had his lights and his siren on, and what was that emergency situation that he was responding to? this investigation is being headed up by the gloucester county district attorney -- gloucester county prosecutor's offers. reporting live from franklin

raindrops today. but, you can see, there is definitely still cloud cover out there. the further north you go, live neighborhood network outside kits town area middle school, 28 degrees, definately colder and certainly dry but cloudy, to start the day off. but we are expect to go see at least some sunshine as the day progresses, and around the region, those temperatures should get into the much more seasonable mid 40's, still few degrees above the average we will take it, it will be noticeably colder, still where we should be. >> we go outside, checking the ben franklin bridge, quiet morning, people still on vacation, you lucky ducks. out on the ben franklin bridge, though who is going to work this morning or where ever you are going headed into the city, looking great and the westbound all lanes are open, currently no problems there. over on the schuylkill expressway, just little bit of volume, in the westbound lanes around the conshohocken curve. thing moving quickly there. the eastbound lanes toward center city area moving great there, as well. now, as we head on over to our maps here, disable car out in jenkintown so washington lane at greenwood avenue, you can use some caution pushed over to the shoulder there. otherwise 422 eastbound eastbound oaks still clear this morning, seven minutes no problems on the northbound 95 from wood half mean new jersey about 19 minute trip there. septa, new jersey transit and darryl all running on time with no delays. currently no delays at the philadelphia international airport. erika, back over to you. >> frustrated video game fans are finally able to play on the sony play station network again after hackers attacked
