>> breaking segments in the search for airasia flight 85018501. searches discovered several bodies and debris from the missing plane. good morning everyone, it is tuesday, december 30th i'm ukee washington along with erika von tiehl. >> a check on traffic and weather together in a moment. first, though, we want to up date breaking news in indonesia. at least 40 people pulled from the java sea. grim discovery made within miles of the missing plane's last known coordinants. michael bert joins us from washington d.c. with more on these breaking developments, mark, good morning. >> confirming debris found today, is indeed, from the missing flight. that debris includes luggage an emergency exit door, all found just about five or 6 miles from the plane's last known location. >> crews searching for airasia flight 8501, off borneo bodies found below. teams also recovered red white and black object, floating in the area, along with a life jacket, most likely debris from the plane search teams say the discoveries commas aircraft from several counting including australia resumed the aerial search. >> as request the by the indonesian authorities. >> in the u.s., now part of the effort, the uss sampson is joining a growing number of ships, planes, helicopters involved in the mission, which has been expanded to cover

land. the missing plane with 162 people on board left indonesia sunday morning head today singapore. it vanished shortly after the plane's captain request today fly at higher altitude because of bat wedder. re goes was denied because of heavy air traffic n addition to weather investigators will also look at whether the plane was going too slow, mechanical failure, and how the pilots may have reacted to emergency on board. as the mystery continues to un fowl airasia has offered to fly relatives of the missing over the search area. >> shortly after those bodies were found the airline's ceo tweeted, quote my heart is filled with sadness for all of the families involved in 8501 on behalf of airasia my condolence toss all. words cannot express how sorry i am. and that ceo and the president of indonesia have just gun a news conference right now with the latest. ukee erika? >> mark, what are some the other challenges you have learned about whether it comes to the search and recovery crews, what they're facing right now? >> reporter: just as though the plane had issues going through very severe weather the search has been hampered by weather, as well. 6-foot high waves and very strong winds crews from 30 ships and 21 aircraft are conducting this search in a area the size of the state of california. so the us is considering now sending additional ships, as well as aircraft and submersible, but the search ended for the day because sunset occurred in the past hour. >> mark, thanks for the update. michael bert reporting from our nation's capitol thank you. our time now 7:03.

let's get traffic and weather together. >> katie and jessica good morning, ladies. >> good morning we lucked out on christmas time, katie because it was nice and warm, but i am hearing not so luck think week? >> absolutely some chillier air beginning to move in, even since yesterday jess, the next couple of days progress, expect temperatures that won't have easy time even breaking out of the 30's. so as a result of that, you know certainly a perception forecast more than anything. what i mean by that, it is winter. we're used to temperatures like. >> this meanwhile you have some clouds out there as we take you to the live neighborhood network first and for moles. very light waves lapping up, and you can actually see the clouds are coming courtesy after little moisture here on storm scan3. you know generally speaking, though, most of what you are finding moisture wise has had real hard time actually verifying precipitation at the grounds level. i haven't fawn one observation yet that has said we've had anything other than overcast skies around the region where we have the purple and the green's moving through. so, if you're in our eyewitness weather watcher network and hit me up on twitter let me know what you are finding out there. right now generally looks like upper level moisture. thirty-three the current temperature at philadelphia international, little chillier through the outlying suburbs r but chill any general. we will not break out of the 30's in many locations including philly, including the poconos, but eventually these clouds will lift, and we get some sunshine. jess, over to you. >> thanks, katie. morning, everybody, 7:04. we start things off out on the blue route just approaching the pa turnpike and the southbound lanes here. everything still doing just

fine actually, no real volume starting to accumulate. same story really for the ben franklin bridge, from the philly side, so all lanes completely open, headlights right here, are headed westbound into the city, and having no problems doing so. we do have road closure out in rich lands route 309 in both directions closed, between toll gate road and station road, take old bethlehem pike to get on by for the time being. and an accident out in bristol green lane pacific avenues. use caution to put you into the should i am. row debris blair at west county line road. use some caution. clean up currently septa on modified schedule, see if you are eye ' affected by that, no problem for dart or jersey transit. back to you. >> new this morning philadelphia police are investigating what led to a deadly crash in nicetown. >> a car hit a pole that went down an embankment killing the driver and injuring three passengers. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us from the scene to tell you more. jan, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, police continue to tell you the exact cause of the accident. they do believe that alcohol and speed are factors. it was a terrible scene overnight here in nicetown, that car ending up by those orange cones with one person killed and three others injured. >> it is result of deadly accident in nicetown. carp at the bottom of 20-foot embankment. horns still sounding despite the damage. one woman the driver, was killed and three of her passengers including pregnant woman, were injured. after their car left the roberts avenue exit. >> struck a telephone pole, breaking it, and then ran into

an embankment. where the vehicle actually dropped off of a 20-foot embankment. >> accident happened just after 10:30 monday night. group traveling north on route one, and took the northbound exit when police say the 23 year old driver lost control. she was pronounced dead on scene. twenty-four year old man in the front passenger seat was severely injured and taken to einstein in critical condition. and the man and woman in the back seat, also 24, were taken to temple in stable. >> police spent hours. >> they did find alcohol in the vehicle. they believe speed and alcohol possibly contributed to this accident. >> and again that 24 year old pregnant woman was in the back seat taken to temple in stable condition. she is expected to be okay. she was actually outside of the car and walking around when medics arrived. in the meantime, again this crash is under a full investigation and all of the roads in this area have since reopened. reporting live in nicetown jan carabeo, "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". >> jan, another accident to talk about right now. route 309 shutdown in both directions, at toll gate road in richmond township bucks county. after an overnight crash. car hit utility polander 1:00 this morning knocking wires down, all across the road. workmen still work to go find out when that road will reopen. no word on injuries. police say that a deadly crash in delaware county, killed a suspect who fled an attempted traffic stop. the driver smashed head-on

into another car leaving that driver fighting for their lives this morning. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones has more now from glenolden. >> devastating head on collision, could be heard throughout the neighborhood. >> just who are itch irk scene. >> in picture taken moments after the crash shows smoke coming out of the white nissan al tim a police were chasing. that will driver pronounced dead at the scene. emergency crews had to cut away a second mangled car to get the other driver out. barbara davis said her daughter heard the crash. >> she saw the police officer get out of his car and like point the gun to the white car, to tell the person there to stop, and freeze, whatever. but i guess he realized he was already deceased and he put the gun down. >> the driver in the altima headed southbound chester pike at high rate of speed after folcroft police tried to pull him over for motor vehicle violation around 4:00 monday afternoon. folcroft police say the officer pulled back from the chase, when the driver sped up. moments later he collided head-on with the driver of a red pontiac grand am. the crash happened right in front of the glenolden fire company. >> i heard the whistles going off. i was in my office upstairs. and i heard a large bang. and came down immediately and just saw the scene at the corner there cars everywhere, police came out with the guns drawn. >> folcroft police attempted to pull the driver over near folcroft avenue in chest per pike. the crash occurred less than a mile away in glenolden. and police here right now are trying to determine if that

white altima may have been stolen or stolen items inside. reporting in glenn old end todd quinones, "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". well, grief counselors will be at an elementary school to help student deal with the loss of a classmate. ten year old matthew was walking to a friends' house for sleep-over sunday night when franklin township police cruiser struck and killed him. there is now a memorial for mccloskey at the scene. friends and family gathering as well, to console one another. >> he was very polite boy very good, loving boy. he was my grandson's best friends. both of the boys. >> the gloucester county prosecutor's office is continuing its investigation. it says franklin township police officer nicholas was responding to a call when that accident happened. right now 7:10. and an out of this world fly by on the east coast is caught on camera in new jersey, we'll show it to you coming up. >> also ahead not what you want to see looking out an airplane window. flames shooting from the engine. up next, we hear from passengers of that plane from philadelphia. >> and something a firefighter does to celebrate the season, may have actually meant a difference between life and death while fighting a fire. we'll explain when we come right back. >> ♪ ♪ >> that just makes you want to dance. so has our mild winter, thus far. what is ahead for new years and 2015. katie is going to tell you about the temp, jessica your

road conditions. good morning family, get funky and we go right to break. >> ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ i ♪ ♪ know i can't deny... ♪ ♪ that i got a new feeling ♪ ♪ deep inside... ♪ ♪ ♪ [ female announcer ] with five perfectly sweetened whole grains... you can't help but see the good. >> driver in new jersey catches a possible meteor streaking across the scion camera. seabright bit right there. pete checked spot that fireball last night while driving on i287 in morris county. the american meteor society received more than 400 reports of meteors across the northeast, just last night. how about it? just beast 7:13, katie, good morning. >> good mornings erika. i want to take you back out to the poconos where they are making their own snow. nothing nature made down the road for us here, as at least not in the near term. see the fuzzy view, as the man-made snow is shooting across the camera here, beautiful winter wonderland setting up at jack frost and big boulder, up in carbon county, and it is certainly cold enough for them to make their own snow and have it stick around for couple every days here. i have a feeling they'll be building up that snow pack with fresh powder here on the slopes notice next few days. ski forecast actually pretty darn nice here overall. we keep it nice and chilly,

but high pressure the general theme in the next few days. right now we've got two separate what we call blanket term disturbances going on. you have little light lake enhanced snow falling right now right across the up-state new york border here, then also what's left now after cold front that has sort of stalled out to the south, if you recall yesterday and it looks a lot you know, lot less impressive at this point. so i don't think do you have worry about anything other than clouds for now. feels like values, tells the story, you know, certainly little chillier than it actually reads on the thermometer, feeling, i would say, anywhere from five to seven, 8 degrees colder than the thermometer reads depending on the wind. it could always be worse. look how cold it feels right now up across the central canadian prairie feeling more like 36, 35 degrees, below zero call winnipeg winter peg for a reason up that way. but feels pretty darn brutal even in sioux city. chilly air pent up, northern high planes recalling for us little taste of that, but not quite as harsh. 31 degrees as we look ahead to the fireworks here on new years eve. midnight fireworks, even colder probably feeling no better than the teens with modest breeze kicking in, but at lows it will be perfect viewing conditions for us by that point. and during the day expect full sunshine, both to round out 2014 and the kick off brand new year. >> all right that's great. >> not bad at all. >> that's great. hey, young laidy? >> not too long too bad today. it is a quiet week. >> that's good. >> road closure out there but most of the majors are doing okay. i'll show you what we are talking about at 7:16. good morning guys, starting things off on 95 around allegheny.

look at this, this is not normal for this time normally. we're stacked all the way headed toward the center city area where the headlights are. but right now you can see they are moving along great. northbound lanes where the tail light on moving great there, as well. over on the schuylkill expressway really no problems. i don't even know how many times i've even said that around 202 westbound toward the pa turnpike moving great there as well. but, we have a road closure like i said route 309 closed due to earlier accident in both directions between toll gate road and station road for the time being just take old bethlehem pike to get around that scene for the time being. now, green lane and pacific avenue, another crash that's correct out in bristol push over to the soul ever. some row debris at blair hill at west county line road. use caution when traveling through. they clean that stuff out of the way. upper salford, another crash sumneytown pike at old skippack road. not sitting you back too much, but be aware for police activity on the scene. currently mass transit dart, new jersey transit running on running on time. septa running with modified schedule. back to you. >> some scary moments for passengers after a plane is forges today make an emergency landing at philly international airport. take a look at this video. one passenger shared with "eyewitness news", you can see flames shooting from one of the planes' engines. the us air express flight was headed from fill toy manchester, new hampshire yesterday. when the pilot turned around, and landed safely. the man who took the cell phone video talked about the ordeal. >> suddenly like allowed bang, just bang. and flames shot by my window. and about 52nd later same

thing, boom. flames shot by my window. and at this point like people on the plane thought that we were going to die. >> now, although the engine issued caused quite a scare as you might imagine none of the 75 passengers and four crew on board was hurt. happening today, a woman charged with having sex with a teenage boy has a preliminary hearing in montgomery county. police say they found 42 year old iris gibbney and 17 year old boy in a park that far closed november 15th. investigators say that gibbney also sent nude photos to the boy's cell phone. two met while attending a function at pottsgrove high school. a south jersey manna cured of seriously hurting his fiancee's two year old son. giovani is facing attempted murder charges after that boy suffered several injuries, including, kidney failure last week. prosecutors are not releasing any other details about how that boy was hurt. the first female bishop at the e physical church of maryland accused of leaving the scene after accident that killed a man from our area. the diocese says bishop heather cook returned to the scene 20 minute after the saturday crash to take responsibility. tom polermo father and husband, who graduated from st. joe's prep, was struck while riding his bike. a facebook campaign has been launched calling for the bishop to face charges. complications from diabetes force doctors to remove part of trenton bishop's david o'connell's leg. doctors amputated o'connell's left foot, ankle, and lower leg yesterday. he had several serious infections caused by diabetes. doctors do expect o'connell to make a full recovery.

>> some heart stuffing video shows firefighters working their way through smoke filled home rescuing one of their own. let's show you helmet cam video from maryland. the camera rolled as members of the wheaton volunteer fire squad went in to rescue brent russ hole hit his may day signal. that's russell with the christmas lights, he put them on his hell mel the past three years during his holidays. fellow firefighters say it helped them spot him all in that smoke. >> so you can see the flames coming around him. and from above. we assume he was completely involved. >> now despite what happened, russell was not seriously hurt. and he's already back, we understand, at work. >> wow. >> how about that? >> still ahead this morning, a newlywed couple gets surprise phonecall from the president of the united state. >> find out why he called them to a popjoys for disrupting their wedding. we'll talk more about it coming up next. >> first though here's what's coming up next on the "cw phililly". >> we are following breaking news, several bodies and debris found in the java sea is likely from the missing airasia jetliner. >> six bod wrist returned a short distance from where the plane vanished from radar this weekend. we're told the bod wrist found about 100 miles from land, and

they were not wearing life jackets. a 23 year old woman was killed in a crash near route one and roberts avenue in nicetown. twenty-four year old man is in critical condition. a man and pregnant woman were also injured in this accident. >> and police say that a man trying to get away from a traffic stop crashed into another car yesterday in glenn old end delaware county. that suspect was killed. the chase started in folcroft about a mile away. soldiers standing guards outside britain royal pass as now behind metal fences because of fears of a terror attack. the guards are a popular tourist attraction, because of their ceremonial uniforms. but they're now separate from the public with armed police providing additional protection. >> how about this? phonecall from the president disrupts one couple's wedding day. >> natalie and edward were supposed to be married at the 16th tee at military golf course in hawaii over the weekend. but at the last minute, they found out they had to move their ceremonies because it conflicted with the president's tee time. so, they did. when the president found out what happened, he did call the couple to apologize for the inconvenience. >> that was very nice of him to call to apologize. i can imagine that was one very tick particulareed. >> the phonecall was thoughtful. i thought that was very nice. >> and what a memory there is for, why is there a picture of you with your bride to be in a phone? >> i know. i know. we'll take short break. you're watching "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". see you in a bit.

>> good morning, i'm ukee washington. >> definitely turning little chillier outside. that's the first thing you'll be noticing the second you walk out the door. probably also notice quite a bit of cloud cover out there at the moment. but, that is going to fade with time. the reason for it, very evident on storm scan3 in fact, we still have a very weak but it is close enough, a stalled frontal boundary nearby to bring in the clouds. also even little lake enhanced snow up toward the poconos. so everybody has cloud cover this morning including outside kutztown area middle school sort of smack dab inbetween the systems here at 27 degrees. but eventually not just in philadelphia, and in kutztown, but everywhere else should see some sun for the rest of the day, and nice bright sunny ends to 2014 and bright and sunny start to 2015. jess? >> thanks, katie. good morning just coming up on 7:30, pretty quiet. we have really light volume all across the board, really, over on the boulevard, you can see, things doing real okay. in the southbound lanes headed toward the schuylkill expressway, no problems, northbound lables, as well but few accidents to talk about. majorly there is one here, on 309, both directions, road closed between toll gate road and station road. take old bethlehem pike to get around for the time being ukee back to you. >> next update at 7:55, up next, the use of surveillance software by abused spouse asks on the ride. for more weather, traffic and sports we're on cw on these channels ♪ ♪ [ female announcer

>> impact killed a driver, injured three passengers, "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us now from the scene with the latest information. jan, good morning. >> judge you can see from this deadly crash the death this car took, took out telephone pole ended up down an embankment. peco crews have since arrived back on the scene they'll have to replace that utility pole you see there in the road. and if you take a look at the video, you can see what the scene look like late last night, early in morning, as investigators remained on the scene trying to determine a cause of this crash. that horn, still sounding, after the car was crushed police responded to the one car accident just after 10:30 monday night they say this car was traveling north on route one, took the northbound roberts avenue exit, then struck and broke a telephone pole, and then kept ongoing until the car dropped off a 20-foot embankment. >> a 23 year old woman was killed, police say she was driving, a 24 year old man in the front passenger seat was severely injured and taken to einstein in critical condition, meantime, man and a woman in the back seat both 24 years old, were taken to temple in stable condition and to make matters worse that woman was pregnant, they are expected to be okay police say they do have a ' what caused this crash. >> they did find alcohol in the vehicle. they do believe that speed and alcohol possibly contributed to this accident. >> this crash is under investigation, meantime see

all of the roads in the area have reopened. peco crews arrived back on the scene to fix that broken utility pole. reporting live in nicetown this morning, jan carabeo "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". jan, thank you for the update. let's get our traffic and weather together. here's kate. >> i good morning, ukee, hey shall everybody, today is a day that starts off with more clouds than what we will find for the second half of the day. eventually clouds will thin. we get sunshine, but very good reason we're finding the clouds right now, suing at the actually just at the local zoom here. i peering it is snowing, but trust me we are not seeing any kind of verification with any of this moisture, at the ground level. at least i have yet to find any observations from either my own research or you the eyewitness weather watch that's we've got scattered across delaware valley telling me anything other than mostly cloudy or skies. sometimes the bark worse than the bite it, happens that said it is still chilly across the board here it is not severe but you notice it, five to almost 10 degrees difference since yesterday the same time, relating to the they are mom term, talking low 30's at best in most spots more like the 20's, though, through the outlying suburbs as you heard further north. as the day progresses any of the clouds that we are currently finding will eventually thin. get more sunshine. notice the temperatures don't climb al that much at best upper 30's, expected today and that's generally a running theme for the next few days. jess, over to you. >> thanks, katie. and our roadways pretty light so far for the entire part of

the morning. show you sad vehicle over here on i95 near woodhaven northbound lanes so you can see no real volume in the lanes as well. not affecting too much. but toking watch out for just for the time being. over on the ben franklin, no problems here, camera keeps going in and out. but you can see everything moving great headed in or out of the city. but over in rich land, there is a road closure on 309 from both directions, that's all morning so far between toll gate road and station road. take old bethlehem pike to get around the incident for the time being. an accident out in bristol. green lane and pacific avenue, sumneytown pike, old skippack pike, another accident pushed over into the shoulder there. otherwise, for mass transit everything okay for dart and new jersey transit. but running on modified schedule, on the septa regional rails currently no delays at the philadelphia international airport. erika, back over you. >> police are tracking trying to track down a serial robber hoo has targeted seven hotels in southwest philadelphia, and tinicum township. surveillance video shows he doesn't just rob the register, police say he also takes cash and value respect, although he covers his fast, he has been spotted more than once in a bright vest with the letters twd on it. >> philadelphia park authority now warning people about a scam. ppa says several people have complained about receiving emails, asking for money to unpaid tickets. now as you get the e-mail, don't sends any money. the ppa only asks for payment on out standing tickets through regular mail. >> jill wagner joins us from the new york stock exchange,
