ess news" reporter justin finch begins our team three coverage, live from 69th street terminal, in upper darby, justin, good morning. >> waking to up snowfall, so good. except on the street here, we've seen cars go little faster than they should. and this morning penndot is warning all motorists here, to slow down. >> that familiar site, and that familiar sound. the crunch of snow salt, under food, at the 69th street terminal, and then, the feel of that cold. >> pretty colds. >> missed her fist bus to work, though she'll be driving later, she happier to see the salt out for her walk. >> it is good that they're taking time to make sure that it is safe. because, who wants to fall in this cold? i don't like to fall when it is hot. >> this morning if you're driving, there is a good chance penndot is keeping a close eye on your commute. traffic cameras, aimed on state road, so penndot knows where to focus its efforts. >> we're ready set go. we've been red. >> i district executive lesser says, more than 200 trucks will be out clearing streets, well into the afternoon. >> we urge motorists to be very careful to drive at reduced speed to also allow additional time, to get to their destinations. >> in preparation, crews began salt brining state road at midnight. ahead of the below freezing temperatures, that have triggered code blue warnings in our area. >> usually start off about this time of year. and i'm drained out of it from last year. >> with the bitter blast of cold and one to 2 inches every snow looming limo

forecast for a change. no real gradient setting up with the snowfall ability, all light fluffy variety of snow, throughout the at least midday. and really only looking at about one 2 inches every in total out of this, so the brunt is happening as we speak. lead to go reduced visibility, close travel, which of course jess will touch on in a second. meanwhile difference in the temperature, big deal, you can't, you know, you can't dismiss the fact it is so much colder outside. and it will stay this way through the better part of the week. 20 degrees colder than it was this same time yesterday after all. both at the airport down the pike there toward wilmington, and a loft other locations, too. as the day progresses, won't see much sunshine. but snow will be tapering with time. and temperatures are stuck in the 20, a so, yep snow is here if you need it, some excuse to say hey it is winter we have it. today's forecast for sure. cold with snow. jess over to you. >> you said winter is coming and hering it, good morning 8:04, going outside check out how things are doing on 202 with a accident scene we can only assume is weather-related here around chester brook, the southbound lanes, kind of pushed on over into two lanes as it takes out the right left hand shoulder, which is snow covered as well. crew trying to get that declined. snowfall here on the cameras 422 at trooper road. eastbound lanes usual typical delay here see some snow falling, in the background there headed toward the king of prussia area. any arriving flights not being allowed to lands dealing with some departing flights, those issues at least there until 8:30 or 9:00 this

morning, so just want to see if your flight is affected by. that will now septa dealing with some delays up to 20 minutes on the trenton regional rail line both directions. due to signal problems, and also, for septa lansdale-doylestown regional rail line delays to up 15 minutes inbound due to equipment problems. accident win month drive west of the majors starting to slow up, problem out on the schuylkill westbound, from the vine into the blue route about 38 minutes there. slow going out on the pa turnpike westbound. over to you. >> we have breaking news from south philadelphia to tell you about, where fire forces family from two story row home and into the cold. firefighters got the call around 2:45 this morning through a fire on the 2200 block of south lambert street. with you person in stable condition. firefighters got the flames under control in about 30 minute. >> i seen these flames, like it is a fire, just came out the house. >> investigate erring trying to pinpoint what sparked this blaze. the red cross helping family of four. >> also, philadelphia police investigating deadly shooting in the west oaklane section. happened on the six a hundred block of north 20th street around 11:30 last night. authority checking surveillance videos in the area for any leads on two mask men, seen running from the scene. >> this woman, cinnamin kelly, the 42 year old accused of kidnapping her grandchildren. authorities say, she took off with the one and two year olds

yesterday, after a custody hearing in middle township cape may county. the children were recovered unharmedment kelly faces kidnapping and child endangerment charges. >> developing now, manhunt underway in new york city for the suspect who shot two nypd officers last night. the surveillance video shows the moment that one suspect opened fire on police a special detail officers got off duty when got a robbery call. the officer went above and beyond the call every duty. >> important hearing this call went back out in search of these criminals. >> they believe one of the suspect may have been shot. investigators continue to look for clues in this case both officers recovering in the hospital this morning, in stable condition. >> the fraud trial of don tollefson said to begin in a bucks county courtroom once two alternate just or are selected. yesterday the philadelphia sport caster reject add deal t included a two to 20-year sentence with a treatment program that would have reduced his jail time. accused of stealing $340,000 intended for sports trips benefitting charities. tollefson dot nos regret his decision to withdraw his guilty plea last month. >> the fact are the fact. this is real a story how he reached from the stars and fell to the earth. >> i just look forward to the opportunity as mr. goldman said to tell my side of the story. >> sport lags year under houssay necessary treatment

easily even though there is not too much of a wind. it is enough to certainly reduce your visibilities, we will be checking in with the mobile weather lab in a second here to get the conditions out there. >> this is a system that sips across the us. this same time yesterday still over montana so it has bucked it speedy guys don't have a lot of moisture, that in part is because they're moving so quickly here to gather much with t but they do reinforce the coal. so winter storm warnings, winter advisory are posted, still posted back to indianapolis, very likely going to be expiring, though, as this system continues to roll through. and it will do so for us quickly. winter weather advisory for our area lasts until 4:00 p.m. here's foot your weather. generally in the brunt now. few more hours before it gradually tapers afternoon more scattered variety snow showers, even into the early evening, you might still see few flanges flying, once past the noon hour, basically out of the worse of what this storm has in store. with this system we should say. by tomorrow, may still be some left over snow showers, wind driven because the northwest breeze will be cranking by tomorrow. >> for now expect one 2 inches in general swat around the delaware vale as a whole. no real gradient setting up with the snowfall totals this time. just everybody gets in on it, and everybody gets an inch or two. meanwhile, we look forward to our ice witness weather three day forecast, reinforcements, coming in, with the wind, with the thermometer readings, at them up, come ten, 15, that's how it will feel. this the seek that we absolutely will have to bundle

up. winter is back for sure, and back with a vengeance we want to send things out as promised to meteorologist justin dray become liver with the nobody well err lab in delaware county hey justin? >> good morning, looks like the snow pick up little bit where we are right now i59 northbound, coming up right at the ridley park exit. so, still light snow, but you can see slush just thin layer of snow, out on 95, so, speeds are reduced here, traveling about 40, 45 miles per hour. >> snow helping things out much, so we talk about the morning commute. >> slow it down, lever few minutes early if you considering and just have some extra patients, out on the roads 95, the 420 exit, traffic moving, reduced speeds, and visibilities coming down a little bit and the snow should continue out through the morning. >> for the rest of the traffic, we send it back to jessica. >> reduced visibility is really important, as well. see this in one of the cameras here out on 202 just approaching chesterbrook. the southbound lanes, you can see the cameras little bit blurry here, snow actually falling in the camera as we speak accident cleared up we assume was weather-related. we know it is slippery. out in new jersey, see snowing falling on the 42 freeway right around creek road, where the northbound lanes are slow moving headed toward 295 or possibly into philadelphia, in the surrounding area bridges no real problems in the

southbound lables, but we can see snow starting to gather really in the shoulders now we do have some problems with philadelphia international airport, there will be ground stop until 8:30 a.m. so see if you're affected by that. meantime septa dealing with some problems, at well, trenton regional rail line for delays to up 20 minutes both directions, due to signal problems lansdale-doylestown regional rail line delays to up 15 minutes inbound due to equipment problems there. erika, back over to you. >> thank you on your health watch this morning the flu is hitting our area and the nation hard right now. the cdc is reporting widespread activity in nearly all 50 states. delaware, 632 confirmed cases four deaths in the first state. in pennsylvania, there has been more than 10,000 cases with 591 in month good morning county. reporting flu activity is high in new jersey, blamed in part on this year's vaccine, may be only about 30% effective. that's because h3n2 the main stream of flu circulate something not a good match to the flu shot. ukee? >> phoenix teenager using some pet therapy to help up lift his spirits while he's hospitalized for treatment. sixteen year old anthony lions says he looks forward to visits from therapy dogs when he's hospitalized. his mom says it is the only time she sees him smile. >> it has gone viral now the teenager says he takes comfort inn knowing he's not fighting this battle alone. >> probably might break a million by the end of the day.

things away in strategic orders it, makes it easier for next year. >> store them in a box like this one consideration cost less than $20. >> also, decide if you really want to keep every red glittery ball. >> look at ornament, look at decorations that maybe have kind of played themselves out you know, you once like, but kind of over them now. >> to avoid rat's nest of lights get a real. >> i was able to not have them get tangled, then putting them away it was really just like coiling up a yo-yo. >> now for other odds and ends group them into bins by room. >> that way when i take my bins out i just bring that ben to that appropriate room. it saves my time from either walking all around the house and also just trying to remember where everything goes. >> but, where to store those bins? >> remember, that you only take out your seasonal decorations once a year. so, when you are thinking about where to store them, put them in a place that you don't need to access them, readily. >> and if there is something you didn't bother taking out this year, it could be time for it to leave your ho-ho-ho home. >> i think just like de-cluttering any space in your house don't pack something up if you don't think you'll use it. >> it is so tell to go just to keep everything, because it is a gift, but just clearing out the clutter also says next year if you are decorating, instead every just adding more stuff to the deck rays cents you already have up like picture frames, take some of those decorations down, the picture that you have up the rest of the year, put them in your now empty christmas box to create space for new

"eyewitness news" it delaware county as parent drop off their children at the rosemont school of the holy child. not big storm but couldn't commas a worse time, right at the height of rush hour. slow your roll, even while you are walking. we're keeping our eye on the system. good morning. >> good morning, absolutely right. timing really everything on this one. because it really is just a clipper. and clipper that typically adds true to form, would only bring just little bit of light moisture with it, this is exactly what we've got out there now. but everybody's out there along with the snow right now trying to get to their destination. so rough stuff anyway with rush hour, then you throw this mess in there it makes it even worse. we know. storm scan3 obviously enveloped in snow. in the brunt of the clipper as we speak. but that said, it is just a clipper, so not going to dump very much. just general one 2 inches, our expectation, very base i snowfall map. not much of a a gradient set up here. as we look forward in the forecast timing things out again, in the brunt of it right now. so you'll see the most accumulation happen from now up until closing in on the lunch hour, just scattered snow showers left over into the midday, then by the p.m.

a half inches this time of the year, but so far we've seen look at your screen less than tenth of an inch. >> and so cold last year, stayed around for awhile, too. >> seem like every week there was more snow and just freezing. >> road crews work to go stay ahead of the system upon us right now. justin finch joins us now over at 69th street terminal. justin, good morning to you! >> the 69th street terminal, we're seen this steady snowfall come down all morning, and septa crews and road crews have been attacking it. now, penndot began their preps at midnight, and they continue to stand at the ready this morning, we were watching septa long before the morning return as they saw to the terminal area out here paying close attention to the stairs, and the curbs out here, as well now penndot also got very early start they've been working again around the clock this morning. bringing salt brine to the major highways, in the area, and they are continuing to watch those roads from traffic cameras, keeping a look out on the rush hour commute this morning. >> take your time, don't rush to be anywhere, take your time, everything should be good. >> it is good they're tacking time to make sure it is safer. because, who wants to fall in this cold? i don't like to fall when it is hot. >> we spoke to lots of walkers, think say the salt is also very key for them as is the salt out on the roads tore drivers, again if you are going to be driving this

morning, be very careful out there, the roads may not always be as clear as they seem. i can see fine icy film by the term nam, if you do have a place to go this morning, you may want to plan your route just in case, you have to take an alternate. we are live in upper darby justin finch, "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". >> justin, thanks for the heads up. we'll get back to you. our time now 8:32, and here's your traffic and weather. >> as we continue to track basically the brunt of this clipper system, you know, it has obviously got poor timing. traffic and weather going well together on day like this, as justin had mentioned, you know, if it looks like it is shiny or there is sheen to it, also almost definitely icy. it is that cold outside. >> first and for most, wider zoom, not finding much mixing take place if there is any at all, over the open ocean water and further south. so we are all exclusively across the board, whatever you want to say getting strictly snow, this time around. so that said, how much are we talking? it is a clip guys, remember, clipper systems are typically weak with moisture, they reinforce the cold, that's their business characteristic, but also zip right through. so by the time we hit the early afternoon, this is already tapering away, and it is just the light fluffy stuff actually the only reason we are looking to up few inches, it is fluffy so it can accumulate more easily, otherwise doesn't have a lot of moisture to work w winter weather advisories posted all of the counties shaded in the purple just because you don't have purple shaded county up across new jersey new jersey or pa doesn't mean not going see snow simply means you

don't meet winter weather advisory. feeling like the teens we expect to hit 29 in philly right at the freezing mark down the shore and the teens and the poconos. even the most mod owes breeze will make it feel that much colder. periods of snow for the next few hours by mid to late afternoon all tapering. then later tonight just few left over clouds. jest jess, over to you. >> good news, because right now not dealing with good news, jammed all over the place, reduced visibility, you can see here from the cameras on top of the ben franklin bridge, the jersey side, the other side from philadelphia, we can hardly even see it. i wanted to show you how bad that visibility actually s so headed westbound into the city all lanes open, fortunately but we can see it is still some slow going and some rough driving conditions, as well. now, over on 95, actually, just skipped it by accident. head back here, in the southbound lanes headed toward the center city area, complete slow going complete brake lights reduced visibility some snow over in the right hand shoulder so we know these roadways are wet and possibly slippery. ground stop until 8: three it is little after 8:30 now on delays on arriving flights at the, an accident blocking out the left hand lanes. ukee, back over to you. >> when the weather is making a mess, for people across the country, this 20 car pile up closed major highway in iowa. arctic air sweeping across the northern part of the united states, but even cities in the south will feel the chill. cbs news correspondent don champion reports.

>> first big snowstorm of 2015 blanketed. >> just put it in slow. that's all downing. >> in illinois, crews worked well into the morning clearing roads in chicago commuters complains it also finally felt like winter. >> had to use open flames to real rape switches on the tracks warm and working. >> if a switch does not engage properly, the train could derail. >> in minneapolis monday morning, temperatures dipped down to 11 below and those sub zero temp will continue for the next few days. >> there is a dip in the jet stream, and part of the dakotas, more than half foot of snow, already on the ground. >> we head into wednesday colder air making more progress south, now we have highs in the 20's, nashville widespread single digit even sub zero highs. >> later this morning the same storm is expected to drop snow from washington d.c., to boston. >> don champion, "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". >> now, the west coast is also dealing with some wild weather. hundreds of people in washington state in this neighborhood right here, they're being told to leave their homes after a landslide damages several houses. >> that's the moment the grounds gave way. several homes outside seattle crumbled under the weight of all of the dirt. and it is not just landslides causing problems. other homes are under water after 7 inches of rain fell in just 24 hours. forecasters say the threat of landslides will last a few

meanwhile, as we get back to the map, remind me how we get back to the map? thank you very much. temperature secretary in, some snow, as pretty much everybody does we go to just one more here across the delaware river, allison sent in 20 degrees, she last light snow in cherry hill, and just across the board at this point next, storm scan3 but what you are looking at here the entire system, you know, just one fell swoop there is whole thing moving on through here. so what we will find as the morning prague row rests, in the brunt of the storm now toward the afternoon it starts to taper offer. so we look at the region wide travel forecast here. moving things forward in time, time stamp starts off at 9:00, 10:00 a.m., the brunt of the storm moving through the area. where we get the best accumulation, which still isn't all that much, then we get to the early afternoon and it is quieting down already. you may still have some decent snow across portions of the shore line, for example southern new jersey, but otherwise, the brunt of this is now moving out to sea. then just completely out of here by 8:00 p.m. tonight. at which point the colder air will absolutely take effect. so future snow amount, really good guide as to what we're expecting and we've been saying it now for the last few days general one to 2 inches, expectation, that's across the board, not everyone is in winter weather advisory, but it doesn't neicely mean you won't see the exact same thing. everybody gets in on it. in the wake of this system, everybody also gets in on the arctic chill. take a look here, in philadelphia, by thursday, we're expecting the high to only hit 22 degrees. that is a serious drop off. we haven't seen temperatures like this since last january

so, a week to bundle up for sure, cold air invading but for now talking snow. with that said, we want to send things out to meteorologist us justin drabek in the weather lab and now at the airport some delays out there? >> that's right, katie some problem for some of the arriving flights. and the grounds stop continues until 9:00. checking the arrival flight board, saw four flights canceled, other delays coming up over an hour for some flights, if you know someone that's coming in later today obviously, probably, will be delayed just a little bit because of the werth. here we are 19 degrees right now philadelphia international airport, again the cell phone parking lot is snow covered. ninety-five getting here is slushed covered. it was slow. so just got to reduce your travel speeds on all major roads. and obviously, visibilities coming down, as women. so we talk about the travel conditions. across our area, highways, basically now through 11:00 we will be dealing with this steady light snow. again, mount up there around half inch so far. >> fast moving system, snow will begin to taper off from west to east, so improving conditions. but still with temperatures below freezing, again slick spots all the way through the evening. so again bring you back here from the cbs-3 mobile weather lab, philadelphia international airport, snow covered here. some delays, flights coming in as expected. right now 19 degrees temperature. so, just take it east you outside. that's the latest here in the cbs-3 mobile weather lab, we send it back to the studio. >> definitely reduced

visibility, snow covered roadways, we start off by showing you the snow out on the schuylkill, right around conshohocken, real pretty shot here. moving along nicely though not too much volume right over here. but you can see everybody moving little slower. that's what we want to see. otherwise out in new jersey, starting to jam up pretty solid here on the northbound lanes, still headed toward 295, possibly headed into philadelphia you'll see this delay here. from depford, all the way on forward into the ben franklin bridge or the walt whitman bridge, and delays at the airport, delays on arriving flights, that will be there until about at least nine amex tends today that time. so call your airline see if you're affected by these delays. over on the pa turnpike northeast extension southbound just past lansdale, a dent there, taking out the left-hand lane. then another crash possibly weather-related there, as well on 95 northbound approaching bridge street. so we can't stress enough, just to take your time leave little earlier you see all of the incident starting to pop up. ukee, back over to you. >> jess, thank you. we are getting a look at surveillance video from the bronx where two new york city police officers were shot last night. the officers were not seriously injured they were responding to robbery call at the time. >> more breaking news, four people getting help from the red cross after fire along south lambert street in south philadelphia. firefighters battled those flames and the extreme cold too to control that fire. >> deadly shooting in west oaklane, man shot several times near 66 and north 19th street.

in on snow today. again, as i mention, the general one to 2 inches is our he can peck takes for everyone. now, looking forward in the forecast, cold is the he can pecks takes for everyone too vicious windchill sets in tomorrow. even with left over snow showers, thursday, the brightest day of the next few but also the coldest. and we can expect to see went chill values by thursday probably no bert than single digits. so definately going to be frigid couple of days. but, of course, the snow is the big story for the here and now, so we continue our team three coverage right now with meteorologist, justin drabick right now we find him over the girard point bridge. hey, justin? >> reporter: good morning, that's right, just went over the bridge, in south philly right now by the sport complex, and temperature now 20 degrees. you can see the light snow continues to fall. it is slowing things down little bit here on 95, slush covered road and again we're in the height of rush hour here, so do you have slow it down. speed coming in at about 40 to 45 miles per hour. looks like the snow has lightened up little bit over the pass half hour or so. still enough, drop visibility, and to keep traffic pretty slow. so again temperatures well below freezing at 20, so the snow will easily stick that's the latest here on i95, from the from the cbs-3 mobile well err -- weather lab. >> just coming up on 9:00 a.m. we go out check out how the vine street expressway is doing here just around 24th street. so the westbound lanes headed toward the schuylkill, little bit of slow going there as they come off the ramp. uncle see some shiny roadways, they're wet and covered. and little bit of snow over in the shoulder, reduced visibility out on 95, justin actually on just a moment ago.
