philadelphia where there was a shooting near a father's day block party. >> it happened along the 3200 block of randolph this afternoon. kenneth moten is live at the scene with more. >> reporter: sarah this sparked around 3:00 p.m. let me get out of the way and show you part one of this active scene in north philadelphia. the father's day block party was the next street over, but at the end of randolph is where the gun battle took place involving a police officer. on fairmont street, the toys and inflatable pool is still out. it is surrounded by police after a suspected gunman ran through the block party. around the corner philadelphia police say two armed men were in the middle of a shootout when a 25th district police officer pulled up and joined the fight striking the man in the arm.

the second man was shot several times, but not by the officer. that gunman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. one suspect ran behind houses. officers fanned out in the lot scouring the area. crime scene investigators brought out the markers finding shell casings in front of homes where people ran for cover during the hail of gunfire. >> a block party kids can't come out and enjoy the day, it as you as you sucks. people don't care. >> reporter: police say the second suspect was not shot by the officer, but they are not 100% sure, so that's under investigation. the other man that was shot is in temple. a number of families out here, can you imagine all of them out here for father's day enjoying the weather, just two hours ago, they had a hail of gunfire, many of them were running from.

hard to imagine. that officer and no one else on the two blocks were injured. we'll have another update tonight on "action news." kenneth moten channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. well good news for commuters septa's regional rails are running again after intervention from president obama. 400 engineers and electricians were required to return for duty early this morning barely 24 hours after walking out. the strike ended after the president appointed an emergency board to mediate the contract dispute between septa and two of its union. the shut down affected 13 lines. the ban on the new walkout will last for 240 days. >> what a great weekend to celebrate dad on this father's day. that's cape may, new jersey,

finish. >> reporter: thousands of people began this father's day at the art museum taking part in the 12 annual walk and run to benefit prostate cancer. many of gary's friends were on hand today. >> it seems to have more and more meaning for me every year, because it means more and more men are being vigilant and getting checked and perhaps having their lives saved. while runner like cesily tynan and adam joseph garnered much attention, gary's wife kathy pointed out that everyone was a his or her to raise awareness for early decks and a cure for prostate cancer. >> if you look awrnldz everyone has a story that would break your heart and everyone here wishes they were not here. every year they come ander year they show up to support the men they live and the survivors and

their families. >> reporter: that includes pete's pack a group of runners and walkers. >> he survived carnals i have so much respect for pete. >> reporter: gary said he was looking for the ford to the forward when we could all sleep in on saturday morning. until that day comes, all these people are helping out. amy buckman channel 6 "action news." >> in other news tonight tragedy in newark, new jersey where authorities say 6 people died in a fast-moving house fire. they say it's likely that the victims were all related. the fire started before 4:00 a.m. and spread to another house before firefighters could knock down the flames. the cause is under investigation, but authorities say it does not appear to be be suspicious. two men were hit in a drive-by shooting in willingboro camden

county. this was the scene along the unit block of earn shaw lane. a person in a brown car opened fire on two men walking down the street. the two victims were hit and taken to cooper medical center. authorities have not released information on a possible suspect or motive in the case. >> security at the u.s. embassy in being has been tightened and some staff members relocated in the wake of growing violence. after days of defeat the iraqi army temporarily halted the advance of islamic videos. this video shows an iraqi helicopter gunship attacks insurgents to the north. >> this is the worst of the worse. if they get back into the united states or western you're welcome against western targets, i see that as the biggest threat today. >> reporter: president obama

said the u.s. will aid in the fight but not put troops on the ground in iraq. the army has pointed a two star general as to how sergeant bowe bergdahl left his base in afghanistan. he spent five months in captivity before being released last month. he return to the u.s. early friday to continue his medical treatment. the investigation is expected to start next week, but it's not clear whether when he'll undergo questioning. the smooth voice of radio broadcast legends casey kasem has died. in his final years he suffered from dementia and it triggered a legal battle against his adult children and second wife. cal ruddman spoke to "action news" about his passing.
