ambulance and a taxicab and witnesses say they know what might have caused it. >> a plan was sucker punched while waiting for the trolley. police need your help catching this brazen bandit. >> additional information on our breaking news story we just told you about. chopper 6 is live over a fatal pedestrian crash in southwest philadelphia. we know that the victim who was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead was a 60 year old man. this happened at 65th street and woodland avenue in southwest philadelphia about an hour ago. this happened in a heavily traveled whether by vehicle or by foot area of southwest philadelphia. once again, a pedestrian killed. the driver remained at the scene to talk to police. >> all right, we'll take a turn now and go on over to karen rogers and matt pelman. matt of course telling us about this accident as soon as he started to hear word of it as a traffic issue. karen of course looking at some really hot steamy weather today and this week. good morning. >> good morning, that's right. as you step outside you can already feel a bit of a change

in the area. it's much more humid than it was and it's warmer, too. let's take a look right now. it's an ozone action day today and what that means, it's unhealthy for sensitive groups, the young, elderly anyone with respiratory issues. limit your outdoor activity and use public transportation if you can to cooperate with that ozone action day. temperatures already 73 degrees in philadelphia, 66 in allentown, 70 in millville, 70 on the boardwalk in ac and 72 in dover, delaware. satellite 6 and action radar show that we had a cluster of showers move through in the late overnight hours and we can see we're left with some cloud cover here or there. association it's going to be a day where we'll see sunshine mixing with some high clouds today. here's how the temperatures are going to look. by 9:00 a.m., 79. by noon, 88 with sunshine. by 3:00 p.m. 90 degrees and if we hit it at that point it would be the hottest it's been so far this year. by 6:00 p.m., 88 degrees, coming down from your high of 91. i think the daytime today is dry,. later on tonight the slight

chance for a shower or thunderstorm popping up probably in the northwest suburbs will be your best bet. we're looking at a week of shower and thunderstorm chances. one day in particular weather could be serious. details on that in your seven day forecast coming up. matt. >> most of the roads around the region are dry. chopper 6 hd remains live over southwest philadelphia where we had the fatal pedestrian accident early this morning right here along 65th street. there's the car that was involved. this is woodland avenue right here. you see the trolley tracks along wide land. sixty-fifth all blocked offer right here because of the pedestrian accident by woodland avenue. probably just want to go around the block, stick with 66th as your alternate. sad scene here in southwest philadelphia this morning. let's go to the big picture. in addition to that we continue to watch speeds along the schuylkill expressway which this morning are moving just fine. over on 95 just starting to see a little bit that of southbound slowing by girard avenue of that's what this looks like live. those are the southbound headlights coming in towards center city. we have been talking a lot about the northbound lanes of

95 here by girard because there is a traffic pattern shift this morning as we advertised the last week or association it happened overnight and they've shifted all three lanes over toward the right side of the roadway. you can see the cone here on the left and the construction signs. this is really just an extension of that northbound work zone there we already had so i don't expect it to cause huge unusual delays but that change did happen during the overnight hours. also watching a crash this morning in moorestown along 38 at mount laurel road. was cause something slowing coming off of 295 onto 38n west deptford there's the crash involving the train and the pedestrian along jobstown road near 44 by the post office. one person was transported to the hospital from that scene. and in wilmington we had the awful fire overnight along bird street at maryland avenue and maryland of a remains blocked. tam, i know you have more details on what happened there in wilmington. >> indeed we do. we've been watching this breaking developments here out of delaware. overnight fire crews found this body in the rubble of a building that had collapsed and caught fire.

"action news" reporter katherine scott is live on the scene in wilmington with the update. sounds like an awful scene for many people who witnessed it. good morning, katherine. good morning, tam. crews are expected to be here on scene for hours as they continue to investigate what exactly happened here. they say the two women who were badly burned are now being transported to crozer chester medical center to continue their treatment and crews are continuing to try to pull the body of the man who died from this rubble but there is so much debris so they need to try to clear a path which they have been doing but he has not been pulled out quite yet. they're also use robotic cameras to try to get a better look at what happened and continue their search of all this debris. the two story home was located on bird street near maryland avenue in wilmington. the fire started around 10:30 last night. two women were able to get out with the help of wilmington police but they were badly burned. a man was still trapped inside and neighbors tried to get to him. so did firefighters but the flames were too fierce and

then the building started to collapse. the fire was placed under control around 11:30 but crews continue to work at the site as the man remained unaccounted for and then around 1:00 a.m. his body was located inside the rubble and the medical examiner's office was called out. crews have been using heavy equipment to try to clear away debris as they still try to get to him. >> when the building pancaked in there was so much debris on the second floor fell down onto the first floor and some of some debris pushed into the basement. right now we're using heavy equipment to extricate the victim as well as move portions of the wall around so we can get a deeper look inside of the building. >> reporter: bird street is still closed but maryland avenue has just reopened to traffic. the fire department has been working to get that opened. 495 is still closed off. as for the cause it's still under investigation. some neighbors reported hearing an explosion but the chief says no explosion has been confirmed. they do know the fire was first and then came the collapse. wilmington arson task force, the city and state fire marshal, the attorney

general's office are also investigating since this is a fatal fire. this has not been called suspicious at this point. coming up at 6:30 you can hear from one of those neighbors who tried to get into the home to rescue there man. live in wilmington, katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> katherine we'll see you then. also developing this morning two people were injured in a crash involving an ambulance and a taxicab in the chinatown section of the city. it happened at the intersection of eighth and vine streets at 2:30 a.m. the life star ambulance smashed into the side of the cab. both the cab driver and a passenger inside were injured and hospitalized. witnesses say the traffic light at the intersection was giving both a red and green light for traffic simultaneously causing confusion for drivers. police are investigating. >> it is 6:07 and police in schuylkill county, pennsylvania, have charged a water treatment operator with urinating in a filter at a water treatment plant. police say the incidents happened on april 20th at the interrian run water treatment plant in schuylkill county. an official for the county's

municipal water authority told investigators that on that day he saw 52 year old paul herb urinate into a unit that filters drinking water for several communities. the system was shut off immediately. officials say water that went to households was never contaminated and that herb has been fired. he has work for the water authority for 18 years. >> general motors is in even bigger trouble when it comes to problems with ignition switches. the issue has led to a huge recall and may have caused up to 13 people to die. maribel aber is live at the nasdaq in times square with yet another gm recall. maribel. >> reporter: hi, matt. the recalls keep rising at general motors. they're recalling another 3-pointer 3 million vehicles, a flub of models from 2000 no audio. gm says the defect is linked to eight crashes and six injuries. turning to stocks, stocks inched slightly higher monday

as enthusiasm for deal activity offset fears over the turmoil in iraq. futures are pointing to a higher open and investors look at a report on inflation with the latest flubs on consumer prices. film stars have the academy awards on -- musicians have the grammys. on saturday's food truck vendors they got their moment in the spotlight. the vendors were vying for the chance to be named the best of the best in the vendee awards. the winner pie stand which serves fried pies with french inspired cuisine. matt and tam what's better than a fried pie. >> anyone have one of those yet. >> i have not. >> i think they should pull that truck around here. >> i'm all in. >> all right. >> we're going to feel like we're frying here the next couple days with temperatures goes way up. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing around the region we had a cluster of showers that moved through in the overnight hours and they are out of here. we are dry and the rest of the daytime is dry today. let's take you on outside. we're going to see what it looks like starting out there

bright and early, looking live in hd and we see some clouds lingering over philadelphia international with those showers that have moved through but we'll see a good amount of sunshine today as well. temperatures 73 degrees right now in philadelphia. the dewpoint 67. it is way up from yesterday when we were just in the 50's. you feel the humidity as soon as you step outside and that's with that west-southwesterly flow kind of purging in the hot more humid air at only 7 miles an hour though so not much of a breeze to help you out. pressure 30.05-inches. looking at satellite 6 and action radar we can see some of the cloud cover left over from those residual showers that we had move through. this is already off the coastline. you saw with our live radar exactly where that is. that's off coastline now. we can see clouds trying to fill in from the west and of course that powerful storm system that spawned tornadoes we've been talking about in nebraska, we can see chicago getting hit with wet weather right now and that's going to reintensify as it moves through new york state but really not affecting us. late tonight maybe we get a shower in your northwest suburbs or a thunderstorm but the rest of us remain dry and

certainly through the daytime hours. but it's a summer preview because this jet is displaced way up to the north, high pressure in control around the carolinas that's just pumping up this hot humid air. so we're in the 90's not just today but tomorrow as well. by 9:00 a.m., 79 degrees, hazy sunshine. by noon, 88 and with a good amount of sunshine. by 3:00 p.m. 90. hottest day so far this year. we'll hit 91 around 4 o'clock and coming down from that high about 88 at 6:00 p.m. i think at 6:00 p.m. we're dry and maybe a chance for a shower in your northwest suburbs. a good place to escape the heat, down the shore because a sea breeze is going to kick in. we're starting it off with a good amount of clouds at the shore. by this afternoon you'll have a lot of sun and that sea breeze. by 11:00 a.m. 79 degrees and after that sea breeze really takes affect by 3:00 p.m. dropping it do town about 77 degrees. but i want to show you future tracker 6. later on this afternoon expecting a high of 91 but it will feel more like it's 95.

this is tracking the heat indices, what it's going to feel like in the area. wait until we fast forward to tomorrow afternoon. about 4:30 it's going to feel like a hundred degrees in the city when you factor in both the heat and humidity. let's look at the seven day forecast. hot and humid today, 91 degrees for your high. the union has a national tournament today so they're going to be playing through dry conditions but it will be sticky. tomorrow hot with the chance for some gusty thunderstorms. we have a lot of chance for thunderstorms but it's wednesday afternoon and wednesday night when we have the chance for these storms top perhaps develop into severe so we're going to watch that closely. 94 for your high on wednesday. thursday it's still kind of sticky, 87 degrees. we at least knock down the temperature but remain unsettled. friday partly sunny skies. by friday i think it feels less humid, 84 with a chance for a shower. the weekend it looks like a front kind of lingers nearby so we have a fair amount of clouds mixing with some sunshine both saturday and sunday and on both days the chance for a few showers. and on saturday only 82. on sunday 80 for your high. monday stays a bit unsettled,

>> welcome back. deptford gloucester county here in new jersey. you see that train halted because earlier this morning it was involved in an accident with a pedestrian. so right now rescue crews are on the scene and investigators trying to figure out exactly what happened here around 4:45 in the morning near jobstown road and crown point road in west deptford. we know one person was taken to a nearby hospital. we're still checking on their condition and again officials there on the scene where that train was involved in some sort of accident with a pedestrian. >> matt is that train blocking any of the roads around there? >> we don't think so.

we think there are emergency crews out there possibly restricting traffic along jobstown road near route 44 which is crown points road. that's not too far away from the post office if you're familiar with the area but we think that vehicular traffic can get by and the thing with this train is it's a csx train which means a freight train, not a passenger train so you don't have to worry about this affecting nj transit or anything like that. but as you can see the train is stopped on the tracks, not getting through at this point so it could cause some issues with freight trains but again not affecting passenger trains this morning, and at this point aside from some restrictions along jobstown road, you can get by. if you normally use jobstown, stick with grove avenue as an alternate. we're also watching a crash this morning in moorestown, burlington county right along route 38. that's the spot to avoid at mount laurel road. earlier we were seeing some delays along 295 southbound headed toward 38. those delays have dissipated now and speeds back up into the mid 60's so we think that the ambulance that was on the

scene of that accident has probably left. meanwhile in wilmington, katherine gives us the good news that maryland avenue has reopened around that fire and building collapse so you can get by there again and speaking of wilmington, travel times are still on time along i-95. you know they've been heavy many mornings because of the 495 closure. at this point this morning they remain on time. if you're out and about in souderton don't forget about the new closure that took effect yesterday. the intersection of cow path godshall and west broad. that lasts until november. allentown road a possible alternate. camera time along the schuylkill with building eastbound volume here by montgomery drive but at this point no huge delays. matt. >> thanks, matt. police in delaware county need your help in finding someone who they believe was playing the so-called knockout game. [laughter] that punch you heard was followed by laughter at septa's aaron ming avenue trolley stop in upper darby back on wednesday. police say a group of teens pressured someone to attack the 58-year-old victim, punching him in the head.

afternoon tomorrow and it's a big number. >> sounds like pool and beach days to me. >> sounds good. >> good morning to you karen rogers. we're live along 95 with a little sunshine starting to poke through. you can see that shining down on the roadway. you can also see a lot of southbound traffic by now near cottman, then again from the betsy ross bridge through this points at girard. and northbound you may be able to see things look a little bit different this morning. as promised they did shift the traffic pattern around overnight blocking offer the left side of the roadway so they shifted the three lanes to the right side of the roadway. this is basically just an extension of the construction zone there we already had out there northbound between the vine and girard. so now it just goes a little bit farther north. but are you contending with that this morning. on the big picture over on the schuylkill speeds starting to drop in both directions, westbound by belmont just 20 miles per hour and in southwest philadelphia we still have that crash involving the pedestrian blocking off 65th street by woodland. stick with 66th instead. in moorestown the crash along

38 at mount laurel road cleared. we had that train accident this morning in west deptford near jobstown road. i still expect some restriction there is by route 44, maybe head for grove avenue instead and in wilmington there was the awful fire and building collapse overnight that for a time blocked bird street and maryland avenue. at this point just tiny bird street remains blocked. maryland is reopened and matt and tam i know you have more details on what's going on there in wilmington. >> information keeps coming in on it, matt. thanks very much. a breaking news story here. crews discovering a body inside a collapsed burned out building in delaware overnight. "action news" reporter katherine scott gathering information for us on the scene and is live in wilmington with an update. katherine. >> reporter: matt, and so far the names of the victims have not been released yet but we do know two women who were badly burned and taken to the hospital last night were transported over to crozer chester medical center this morning to continue their treatment and crews are continuing to try to pull the body of a man who died from this rubble but they haven't been able to get to him yet. this remains an active scene

here in wilmington. the home is located on bird street near maryland avenue and the fire started around 10:30 last night. two women were able to get out with the help of wilmington police. again, they were badly burned. a man, though, was trapped inside and neighbors tried to get to him. so did firefighters but the flames were just too fierce, too hot and then the building start d to collapse and they couldn't send more firefighters in. the fire was placed under control around 11:30. around 1:00 a.m., his body was located inside the rubble. one neighbor said the impact was so great he thought a car had slammed into his home and then he looked outside end saw the house burning. he called 911. he heard screams for help. he rushed into the back of the home to try to save the man but he says he just couldn't get to him. >> the top level of the house was sunk into the bottom level. and so i ran to the back and i saw him and i went to where he was but there was a wall in my way and i kept trying to get

him to crawl closer to me so i could probably pull him. and it took so long that the fire, it kept burning and burning. >> reporter: and then he just had to get out himself because the building was starting to collapse. the flames were just too fierce. back here live crews are using robotic hammers to get a better look at what happened insides. the cause is is still under investigation. some neighbors reported hearing an explosion. officials say no explosion has been confirmed. they intoe know the fire started first then came the collapse. the fire is not considered suspicious at this point. we have been told that one firefighter did have a minor injury. he was taken to the hospital for evaluation. we're live in wilmington, katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." >> okay, katherine, thank you for that. new this morning philadelphia police are looking for the gunman had shot and robbed a store owner just before closing time. this happened around 1:00 in the morning on the 3600 block of north seventh street in hunting park. police say two men shot the owner twice rummaged through

his pockets and then ran away. the victim is now in stable condition. and cleanup begins today in the tiny nebraska town of pilger. it was nearly wiped out by twin tornadoes. the twisters are to blame for at least one death. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is live at the big board. she's got much more on the devastation. good morning, erinism good morning, tam. unfortunately authorities have confirmed that a five-year-old child has died as a result of these storms. 19 other people were injured. and more than half of the town of pilger, nebraska, was destroyed by these rare twin tornadoes. and these pictures and videos you see here are pretty terrifying and they really capture the size and intensity of the twisters which made a direct hit on this small community about 100 miles northwest of omaha. businesses, farms and the town's fire department building were demolished and nearly every single home sustained some sort of damage. the two twisters touched down within roughly a mile of each other late yesterday afternoon and what made them so rare was

their strength and their longevity. in the case of dual tornadoes one cyclone is usually much stronger than the other but not in this case and that's why there was so much devastation. residents were evacuated yesterday but are expected to return this morning to retrieve their belongings and as sells the damage. understandably many are in shock over what little is left of their hometown. >> started yelling and then all the shingles started blowing through my yard. i lost my hot tub and everything lifted off of it and the heater smashed over me and my buddy. >> there was three houses which are gone. there were three houses on the opposite side of the block that are gone. >> reporter: the governor has declared a state of emergency. today the nebraska emergency management agency is expected to arrive to help with the cleanup. clearly these residents have a long and emotional road ahead of them. tam, back to you. >> absolutely. thank you, erin.

"good morning america" will pick up our coverage of these tornado outbreaks there in nebraska. that's coming up at 7:00 a.m. that's right after "action news." >> 6:38 is the time. detectives say a 13 year old boy was shot in south philadelphia over an argument his family had over the teen's stolen bike. police are now questioning one person of interest in the case. now, witnesses say two men shot up the passenger side of this white sedan at 20th and mountain streets yesterday afternoon. the boy was inside the vehicle with his stepfather and another teen. the stepfather rushed the boy to his nearby home on hemburger street. >> they came up speeding and they parked right there and almost hit the car. >> he was a little bit stumbling but he was holding his arm. >> the suspected shooters then barricaded themselves in a home on mountain street. a detective in an unmarked car had been tracking them near the shooting scene. one man eventually came outside but claimed to know nothing about the crime. he is the one being questioned right now. the teen is at children's

again. erin had just talked about the severe storms, the tornado outbreak in nebraska and here we could see that complex of storms has really weakened still giving rain to chicago but it will reinvigorate a little bit as it heads towards michigan and upper new york state later on tonight. this really isn't affecting us. we'll get a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm in the northwest suburbs. nothing severe for us. let's take a look at how the day is going to unfold. by 9:00 a.m. 79, by noon 88, by 3:00 p.m. 90. duringduring the daytime today e staying dry. at the shore it's a great way to beat the heat because you'll have a see sea breeze. stuck with clouds right now at the shore. in the afternoon you'll see sunshine. by 11:00 a.m. 79 when the sea breeze kicks in. if you're sitting on the beach it will only be about 77 by 3:00 p.m. let's look at future tracker 6 i've got it set up on the heat indices to see what it will feel like. at 4 o'clock feeling like
