last december, and it's even hotter tomorrow than it is today. lets go to cecily tynan and the latest word from accuweather. it feels like summer and the high hits 90 degrees that is 10 degrees above average and this is the late of the in the year we have started 90 degree weather in 11 years, typically we have hit 90 degrees at least a couple of times by the time we get into the middle of june. but the heat is on, atlantic city airport even hotter, 94 was the high, and wildwood hit 90 before the sea breeze finally kicked in and turned temperatures back to the 80s and reading 92 and allentown 90 and wilmington 92 degrees. you add the humidity, it's uncomfortable in dover, feeling like 98 degrees and millville 93, and the beaches feel pretty nice and temperatures are in the upper 70s, the humidity is

all good. at sisters city park, kidded are having fun in this splash garden tonight the warm temperatures are here and everybody is getting the hang of the hot weather. the heat is coming off the pavement below and nearby at sisters city park, the kids were splishing and splashing and having fun and some made the trip from the suburbs. >> we don't have a pool membership and we don't have a pool so we came down to enjoy the water. >> these construction crews were digging in the dirt at penn's landing preparing a pop-up park to open next week but these hardy guys are used to deal with the elements outdoors. >> you get used to it.

helicopter for a flight to jefferson hospital in philadelphia. the man has been rescued from a quarry on the 3400 block of st. peters road, he is 39 years old and apparently he dove into the quarry to cool off from this hot day and in so doing suffered a spinal injury and he was rescued and transported to the helicopter for the flight to philadelphia, we don't know how severe his injuries are, doctors at jefferson will figure that out. hazardous material crews are working to decontaminate a delaware apartment. on the 100 block of byberry road in hatboro, where the 19-year-old allegedly laced a birthday card with ricin and sent it to his ex-girlfriend's

school that will bear his name. >> i like to think i'm a gentlemen, who cares for other people. >> reporter: philadelphias may know sydney kimmel best for the apartmenting arts and the philadelphia orchestra, but the fact is he has spent $400 million to create cancer centers. his best friend's daughter died of cancer in 1993, and that led to a lifetime commitment of fighting the disease and supporting its victims. >> she was on her way out at the age of 34 and the empathy i felt, i felt so horrible, that triggered off my desire to help him and help the cancer world and that started it. kimmel made his billion fortune in the clothing business.

but as a child of the depression, he started with nothing in south and west philadelphia. he has given tens of millions of dollars to philadelphia institution, including jeff, the national constitution center and it's jewish history museum and the jewish day school. this gift will be transformational. it will be used forever financial aid and facilities and research and endowment. >> why jefferson and why now? >> because i'm a philadelphian, i always have been even though i don't live here now and i am particularly fond of the people in jefferson and i sense a burst of energy, and revitalizing the entire operation at jeff. >> the president and ceo at jeff is dr. steve classco. >> a gift like sydney kimmel's what does that mean? >> it's transformational, that is an understatement.

the sheer dollar amount, and what that will do to serve the community and to be nationally recognized. and sydney kimmel investing in us and believing in us enough to put his name on our medical college, it's transformational, it serves for us to move forward with other people saying this is the place i should invest in. >> if you're a movie buff you may see kimmel's name in the credits for moneyball and lincoln lawyer. >> but hollywood success has not come easy for kimmel. making money is not quite as important as giving it away. for current and future medical students kimmel is one huge hit. >> kimmel wants to give away all of his money before he dies and that is about a billion dollars. so the sydney kimmel foundation still has a lot to work to do.

expressway. construction begins at 7:00 tonight and lasts until 5:00 a.m. and crews will likely arrive tomorrow evening and there is no word when they start paving the road. the philadelphia school system is pleaded for more money. superintendant, william hite says he needs $120 million just to maintain the status quo and it's needed soon before they ajurnlg for the summer. without the money teacher cuts could push class sizes to over 40 and there would be layoffs among school, police and cleaning crews. >> stop acting like these are other people's children, these are our children. >> city council president darryl clark says the district has not touched $50 million approved last fall and the district can raise quite a bit of revenue by selling off vacant billionings.

the place to be today on the beaches, we are live on sky 6 looking at cape may, temperatures were up in the 90s before the sea breeze kicked temperatures into the 70s. you'll deal with a land breeze tomorrow. taking a look at the weather highlights, the heat advisory is in affect for the i-95 corridor and a risk for severe thunderstorms. tomorrow after 5:30, the heat index the way it feels, reaching the mid to upper 90s so our bodies are not used to it yet. find air conditioning and drink lots of water and there is a risk of severe thunderstorms, it looks like tomorrow the bulk of the severe weather is missing us to the west and the severe

prediction center puts parts of lancaster and berks under the risk of severe weather, any storms in edition to the downpours could have gusty winds and small hail as it rolls in tomorrow. right now the big story is the temperatures, it's hot, philadelphia 92 degrees and wilmington and trenton it's 90 and it's sea breeze is trying to work inland and along the shore with the upper 70s and the sea breeze. if you are looking for the thunderstorms, they are up to the north and they are missing us tonight. however, there is another system beginning to take shape across the plains, these are tornado watch boxes, and a risk of thunderstorms tomorrow night and that will take the edge off the heat. during the day tomorrow with the high pressure down to the south

we get a strong wind out of the west so 94 degrees is the high in philadelphia and it will feel close toward 98 degrees and you'll get the land breeze and not a sea breeze and it is going to be hot. the record highs tomorrow, we are getting in striking distance and 95 is the record and wilmington 95 and all of these set back in 1957, the record high is 93 set back in 1962, a good shot that the record will be broken, at the shore tomorrow, put on the sunscreen and get into the water and the ocean temperature in the mid-60s, on the beaches it's going to be hot, 84 degrees and temperatures up to 90 degrees by 3:00 and it's land breeze, not a sea breeze. the call from an weather, warm and sticky and a stray thunderstorm possible. the exclusive accuweather
