temperatures. the humidity is not all that oppressive now across the delaware valley. the pair of 90s that began yesterday. 93 degrees was yesterday's high temperature and 94 degrees yesterday so far, 10 degrees above normal. the 94 not a record for philadelphia, the record was 96, we dropped a degree to 93 and 88 in lancaster and 89 in the lehigh valley and 93 in dover. but the 93 at the atlantic city airport is the only record broken so far across the region. the same in philadelphia as the air temperature of 93 and the same in allentown of 89 but to the south it feels oppressive. 102 in sea isle city, because of a land breeze and each beach haven feeling like 92 degrees. heat indexes are in affect until

philadelphia, that means any storm with heavy downpours could have damaging winds more than 58 miles per hour and could come with large hail. this is a pretty potent system and it's running into the heat and humidity. and that will provide some of the fuel. 11:00 tonight we'll likely see some pop-ups here and there, but things will be changing by tomorrow morning, the morning commute by 8:30, some showers and thunderstorms, this shows most of the activity farther to the north, i'm not sure i'm buying that, i think it could be over the philadelphia region. and it's not just the morning but into the afternoon, the front creeps down to the south and more thunderstorms will develop in early afternoon. this is what to expect over the next 24 hours, some isolated evening thunderstorms, however dawn is when they are widespread, a wet thursday, a

and was dropped a year and a half ago and is alive again in the hands of a philadelphia grand jury. >> today we are announcing so that the public can rest assured we are not going to let this go. >> the grand jury is looking into allegations of corruption into four state representatives and a traffic court judge. ron waters, louise bishop and michelle brownly and melissa brown. sources close to the investigation confirm they are among the targets, district attorney, seth williams, took over the case after a testy dispute with attorney general, kathleen kane, she said it hinged on a tainted informant and racial profiling. and after that kane agreed to turn it over to him. and he says there is more names

out there. >> this is more expansive that what has been previously reported. >> grand jury investigations are usually secret but williams was compelled to make a public announcement to assure the public that politicians are not getting special treatment. we reached out to the representatives who are named but they have no comment. one lawyer says they expect an indictment but that it won't hold up in front of a trial jury. >> williams says he has seen surveillance voi and listened to the audio and says it is convincing and they got the case and have heard some testimony. >> david henry, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a german man who lived in philadelphia for decades facing war crime charges for his alleged role in the holocaust.

the judge ordered him to be held without bail today. he is facing charges in germany for acting as a guard at the ashwitz concentration camp, he said he worked on the perimeter there and did not take part in mass killing there. that decision will come after a hearing at the end of july. amy buckman will have more on this at 5:30 tonight. here at the big board and the latest on the violence in iraq, president barack obama is meeting with congressional leaders today and also with secretary of state, john kerry, to decide which steps if any we'll take to stop the increasing volatile situation there. they say if tl are air strikes they will likely be limited. the leading option sending a small group of special operation forces to advise and train the

about the improving job market in america. >> the ceo of general motors was in the hot seat again today on capitol hill. mary barra testified about the ignition switch problems that set off the recall of millions of vehicles. lawmakers were less than satisfied with barra's investigation. it was a familiar spot for general motors ceo mary barra back on capitol hill for the fifth time in three months. they looking into the recall of 2.6 millions of its cars. >> extremely thorough, brutally tough and deeply troubling. >> gm called the vehicles because the ignition can shut off, shutting down systems including the airbag, the defect results in at least 13 deaths.

oppressive and the north northwesterly wind, the air temperature matching the index. that is for philadelphia, some areas are uncomfortable right now. we see many of upper 80s in quakertown and fleet wood 87 and 92 in kennett square, look at new jersey and delaware, these numbers really climb into the mid-90s especially along the pine barrens with the sandy soil. and at the shore no relief there, with a land breeze and no sea breeze, on the sand it's hot 90 to 92 degrees, we were close to records in philadelphia, shy by 2 degrees, we hit 94 and the record was 96, not close for allentown or trenton. and wilmington 3 degrees away. atlantic city the only spot that broke a record by 2 degrees, so far we hit 95 degrees, ten miles

inland from the boardwalk. the heat indetermine. 93 for philadelphia, but washington and richmond feeling like 97 degrees. double scan live showing storms heading towards detroit in the northern part of the ohio valley, nearly 3,000 lightning strikes in the last 15 minutes, these storms really packing a punch and they will push to the east later on tonight. future tracker through 9:00, most of us remain quiet but there is scattered storms popping far to the west that could move into the northwestern suburbs by 11:30 tonight. and by 3:00 some of us may be woken by heavy downpours and thunderstorms. for the morning rush, that is when the system in the great lakes approaches our region and gives us a pretty wet thursday on tap. tonight it's uncomfortable and we'll watch for the predawn thunderstorms to push in.

suspect escaped in a silver suv, lets the teen go on fair mown avenue, the teen was not injured. a teenager accused of punching a man in the face as part of the so-called knockout game. trend epps was wantsed for the attacks at the trolley stop that left a 58-year-old man unconscious, investigators say that the video of the assault posted on social media helped them make the arrest. >> this is a violence, mean spirited act committed for absolutely no reason other than just to be vicious. epp is faces several charges.

chopper 6 was over the eastbound lanes where the tree fell at 1:00 this afternoon. fortunately it didn't hit any cars when it toppled over. >> police in chester county say they are looking for a serial chop lifter that may have a blinding white smile. the thief stole nearly $1,000 worth of crest white strips, from an exton target store on sunday. he was caught on camera taking the strips and then walking out the door, he escaped in a waiting get away car. he may have stolen whiten ening strips from montgomery county as well. if you recognize him call the

police. and a new jersey man accused of vandalizing his neighbor's home for 20 years will get help for alcohol abuse. he faced 44 counts of criminal mischief. that he threw eggs and tomatoes and other items, and the judge granted a stay in the case while he seeks alcohol treatment for 60 days, one the period is over, the charges will be reviewed and possibly drop. >> a proposal to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana, it would make it a civil offense, that means criminal penalties including jail time would be taken off the table, a small fine similar to a traffic ticket. another proud day here in the delaware valley, as south flds students achieved their diplomas.

left lane is still blocked just past pennsylvania avenue because of an earlier crash. with the right lane squeezing by, xpeblt delays from mercer county and 95 may be your better bet. on the schuylkill expressway, one of many broken down trucks in the heat today, eastbound near montgomery drive off to the side and nonl overheated truck on the southbound side of the vine and northbound on 95 where the delays are much worse due in part this to crash, just pushed off to the side on cotman avenue, but it's pretty much a stand still through this point at cotman, 46 minutes is three times what the travel time should be. expect delays on the airport in newark. up to 15 minutes. we'll check it again brian and shirleen in the next half hour.
