west philadelphia get an invite to the white house. and a suspected nazi war criminal that lived freely in north philadelphia, for years u.s. officials have tried and failed to expedite, johan briar. today a break through, a judge ordered he be held on a new warrant issued by the government. leer is amy buckman with more. >> reporter: good afternoon, for nearly 40 years johan briar lived in philadelphia, he will spent the night in federal prison because officials in germany say he was a guard at ashwitz that aided and abetted in the executions there. johan briar was taken into custody by u.s. marshals.

the 89-year-old that uses a cane and had a stroke appeared in federal court. germany is trying to extradite him to stand trial for crimes. >> there were arm guards known as death head guards. of which mr. briar was one. >> briar has been under investigation since the 1990s but claims he was merely a guard outside of the concentration camp who never killed anyone. the government's case claims that all the guards in his s.s. unit served inside and outside of the camp, and participated in forcing victims into the gas chambers where over 160,000 people were killed. >> the guards in that circumstance in that death head battalion that he belonged to, made it possible for those killings to happen. >> briar was allowed to come to

this morning. 64-year-old edward nomwitz pulled a gun on his roommate at 4:00 a.m. that man contacted police and when authorities showed up and asked the suspect to come out, he refused and through several hours of negotiation, he eventually surrendered. he is facing charges including assault. philadelphia police say they believe they have a man in custody that may be responsible for a dozen commercial robberies, 48-year-old richard lawrence was arrested following the robbery of a cvs on sten ton avenue. >> close to $80,000 this gentlemen was able to get through these robberies, we are fortunately that no one was injured throughout this entire time. >> they say laurence targeted cvs stores in the northwest and southwest sections and often carry aid gun. a serial shop lifter with an

obsession with whitening strips kit again in exton. he stole over $1,000 worth of whooit strips into trash bags and walked out on sunday. if you recognize him call west white land township. call the police. police believe he hit stores in philadelphia, montgomery and lancaster county as well. a man accused of vandalizing his neighbor's home with tomatoes and eggs and other objects will seek help for alcohol abuse. he faced 44 counts of criminal mischief and had been targeting his neighbor's house since 2008. now they are seeking a stay while he seeks treatment for 60 days, the charges will be reviewed after that and possibly
